Make sure you don’t miss my new Nest Camera Battery video I also just uploaded: ruclips.net/video/pgoXL2bExko/видео.html I think the footage from the camera may surprise you in some ways!
Great video, thank you! Any chance you can give some info on how this integrates with alexa, if it does at all? I have some echo shows and would love to have the video feed appear like it can with the Google screens. Thanks!
Great video! Does the Nest Doorbell upload all detected motion to the cloud or can you configure it to only upload events in defined action zones? I'm actually trying to limit the amount of events my current Nest Hello uploads.
Just bought my first house and slowly been trickling smart home tech into it, and your videos are the best help on RUclips. Love the style, humor, editing is top notch, and information heavy without feeling like it's bombarding me. Thank you so much!!
I bought and returned this. Other than the video quality not being great the two biggest issues were that it wasn't 3 hours worth of events storage (i.e. multiple 30 sec clips adding up to 3 hours), it is events stored for 3 hours before cleared which is a real issue if something happens at night and the clip is deleted before you get up. Secondly when you get a notification and click on it, I would get the message that the video is not ready for viewing and you have to wait a while until it's available.... totally unacceptable and can't believe Google released a product with these types of issues.
It's not the lack of 24/7 recording, it's the 3 hour history that makes it useless for security when you don't have subscription. When someone steals your doorbell at midnight, you won't have any footage of this when you wake up in the morning.
Yeah, I ordered a Nest Battery Bell to replace my Eufy, and the main point was tighter integration with Nest Aware and the rest of my google home infrastructure.
Great review, we recently moved house and left our Nest Hello for our buyers. I just bought a new Nest Hello for our new house and was regretting it when I saw the new lower priced model. No regrets now, thank you for the clarity!
I've had the Nest Hello (Wired) doorbell since it came out and absolutely love it. When I first heard that they were coming out with a new one, I was thinking of "upgrading" to this one, but I think I'll stay with my original Nest Hello for a while longer. It has greater video quality and the field of view is fine for my front door. "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it!" Haha
same here absolutely love it - i was the same kept googling for new version and was 100% that I be first one to buy it but when I saw it felt a step backward so not going to upgrade
Thanks man, but could you please show us the doorbell working as a doorbell? Not only a smart camera, show as the notification on your phone when someone presses the button and your nest speakers and displays reacting to it
I just installed this today and was blown away that they let you get notifications on your echo devices. I thought I'd have my Google Hubs doing all the work. Very cool.
One aspect of these doorbells you are mssing is the temperature range. I live in Las Vegas where the temperatures can go above 104 degress. During the summer, my Google Nest Wired daily shuts down when these temperatures occur. Sadly, Google has the same temperature ranges for the new battery doorbell. There are other doorbells which can handle higher temperatures. In short, don't buy a Google doorbell if you live in hot climates.
I think some people are making a big deal out of some features being “downgraded” from the previous model, but this wasn’t supposed to replace the previous Nest Hello. This was released as a competitor for the Ring battery doorbell. I also can’t imagine having 24/7 recording for your doorbell plus security cameras; it would up data like crazy. I use about 900GB out of my 1TB Comcast data cap, surely 24/7 recording will exceed 100GB in a month.
The original Nest Hello was and still is a competitor to Rings latest offerings. The confusion comes that after a few years, why make your product specs worse for almost the same price? Nest Hello is now going for the same price as the new doorbell, which only has a battery backup and offline mode. Other than that, you are getting worse specs across the board in terms of recording, resolution, and fov. Also, the Nest Hello uses about 70GB/Month upload. I don't have a data cap so am not worries about how much I use, but for others it may be a valid concern.
Wouldn’t the night vision be useless anyway because if ppl buys it for security wouldn’t they have flood lights on their front porch? I wouldn’t just rely on a doorbell’s cam alone for visual security.
Works on a 8 Volt trafo. No new door chime, no replacement transformer. So I bought one. Installation is straight forward DIY. No $120 electrician's fee.
If you’re already on the new Nest subscription it includes 24/7 video on all devices. So if you’re already in the nest ecosystem you might as well get the wired one. The battery one is probably fine if you’ve got a side door or some other place without existing wiring though
As a current Nest user I wouldn’t recommend it especially if you are looking at home automations like switching on lights inside the house based on activity or any other automation you can think of. Partly because unlike Ring or other major brands Nest is pretty poor with automation support. As a camera it is great and 24/7 recording was the only reason I thought it was better over Ring pro. However in this version that is not there as well, so not sure why anyone would choose this one especially since the subscription is more expensive!!
what Dorrbell you recomend to use with Home Assistant? I am building a home and I am planing the installation for a Home Assistant to run the lights and window shades.
I'm hip deep with Google stuff, so I see myself getting this doorbell. The only point is that I don't get that many deliveries or people coming over, sooooo why even bother? *sad noises*
This is a good product for people who don't want to or can't wire a doorbell. That's pretty much where it ends. It's only $50 less than the Nest Hello and it's simply inferior in virtually every way. All the free features available to the battery doorbell are available with the wired. The resolution is worse, it's a big eye sore, and it lacks 24/7 recording. This looks like a good product if you want a battery doorbell but if you're willing to wire a door bell then there's no contest between this and the wired version.
I have the Nest hello on my front Door and I don't think I will change it.. but I alos think that the Nest Doorbell battery would be good for my sidedoor that doesn't have a doorbell and no wire.
Hi Reed. So today I just I installed the doorbell and the two pack cameras on the house. I just need to know how to stream video feeds to our new Chromecast with remote. Can you show us please.
The lack of 24/7 recording is a deal-breaker for me. Having a current Nest Hello would make this a downgrade, not to mention that where my doorbell is located I can't place a traditional camera. I hope Nest comes out with an updated wired 24/7 recording doorbell, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
If you live in a neighborhood that assumes itself "safe", can you gauge how your neighbors feel about the cameras? How did you get the eufy cams mounted on the outside of your home? I should probably go back through your back catalog. Just got a home and am lost as to set things up. I move in like....three weeks from my two bedroom apartment. I am a bit overwhelmed lol.
Why not have 24/7 recording like the nest indoor cameras? They don’t have thermal issues. Stupid downscale that could be solved if they added a wired version. Holding out for a better doorbell.
Not liking the changes Google has made to the Nest line up over the years. After hearing the discontinuing of the older cameras I dumped Nest after many years with their cameras. Invested in the eufy eco system and couldn’t be happier, no more silly service fees for a product that offers the same features that are just as good.
Glad you went over the event recording. Really wish you could add it to the nest app. This seems like a deal breaker, not sure if all the older nest devices can be added to google home yet with same functionality, plus I'd rather use one app that I know. Question: does the notification work the same with and without a subscription? I know the Nest Hello does not.
I'd like to know how it fairs in British weather - I live on top of a hill and the front of my house is very exposed. In the 8 years I've lived here, my 3rd wired "old fashioned" doorbell has just broken. Before I spend hunners and hunners on a smart doorbell, I want to know if it's up to the weather
Thank you for the review. I've three questions: 1) does the doorbell work if the doorbell is permanently blocked from the internet? 2) without internet connection, is it still possible to stream a video feed to the Nest Hub? 3) how much time does it take between pressing the doorbell and the video feed to popup in the Nest Hub?
1, probably not. It's emergency recording and after the hour it will probably shut down. 2, no? The nest hub uses casting to show things on its display. This feature needs internet. 3, no clue
@@kiranknoppert3195 Yeah I know that's how it works with RUclips etc. But since the camera is a local source connected to the same WiFi, it would make sense if the camera would stream directly to the nest home. But I don't know how it works. Just don't see why it should go through the internet in that case. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the replies! Can anyone test for these questions? @Smart Home Solver: i think you just might have the hardware ;) Could you test for these 3 questions please?
I preordered it, but now maybe I will return it and pick up the older version. One thing you didn't mention is how fast are the notifications compared to the Nest Hello?
I just purchased the Eufy battery 2k doorbell. It's been up and running for a few days now. I don't know if I should get this instead. What do you think?
Megapixels don't mean anything unless you are looking to display the image in a large format. Not sure why anyone would need to do that for a doorbell.
Is your go to camera right now the nest cam battery? I am testing a Wyze V3 but since the Wyze pro doorbell isn’t out, it’s a hassle having multiple camera set ups.
Thank you for the review. I just bought Eufy 2k battery doorbell 1 week ago. Should I exchange it with this new Nest doorbell? Please let me know which is the real winner. The video seems explained that it recorded better events than eufy. but it seems the quality of nest doorbell video is not good.
See if the Eufy works well for you. If you have delays etc then exchange it for the nest but the Eufy has a longer battery life and better resolution so it's no slouch.

Hello good video as always, can you still test what the time lag-delay is from pressing the button to the appearance of the image on the home hub, you can also for the wired variant, thanks.
In the beginning of the video you said if your internet goes down you can record up to one hour of footage. How is that? Is there an SD card in the video doorbell camera or does it record the 1 hr. worth of video somewhere else?
The nest app is so much nicer than the google home app.... when will they update the google home app to show camera footage icons for doorbells and cameras like nest and ring apps- nicer looking home page on nest app. (less integration options on nest app obviously)
A Nest camera without 24/7 recording isn't a big deal it all. It's kind of the opposite of what I need and defeats the purpose of using Nest over something like Ring.
Nest gives a range of how often it's recording events. Sorry I forgot to include it in this video but here is the table from my previous video ruclips.net/video/hCxk8gfSz4E/видео.html I didn't have the doorbell long enough to fully test battery life. It seems like their estimate is on par with what it was getting though and pretty standard for other battery doorbells. If other companies claim longer battery life then they could be just giving the ideal with low event recordings.
@@SmartHomeSolver So the main question is, which doorbell are you sticking with? The Old version or the new battery version but wire it? I am having a difficult time deciding.
For me the elephant in the room is, at least currently, no Alexa/Echo support. I’m actually mostly a Google/Nest user but recently I added a few Echo devices to some rooms and there are some things I prefer with Alexa so right now, until I see which way I end up going, I really don’t want to buy stuff that doesn’t work with both Google Assistant and Alexa. You said Matter doesn’t support cameras yet (I didn’t know that, thanks). Is camera support on the roadmap and do you think that if/when that is added to the spec Google will make it compatible which presumably would also allow it to be used in an Amazon setup since Amazon is a Matter founding member?
Nice video, but I think you forgot the most important things, like is it the best choice or a wired doorbell like Ring Pro 2 is better? Or at least for Google users? I agree about 24h record, if you want something like that, than you need a device for that and doorbell it's not for that.
SMS... How do you get this thing to send a chime? Will it work with a Google Home Mini? In the settings, it says that it won't chime in battery mode. Well, it is ONLY a battery mode.Any insight?
If you’re paying the monthly fee already for your other cameras, why would you still choose the battery over the wired since you can have unlimited devices for a single $12 fee
Is there any way to get around the 3 hour event limit without getting the subscription service? Can you save events to your phone? Or will they just disappear after 3 hours
the biggest issue i have with changing from nest wired to this is the processing speed. is there a comparison on delay from doorbell to notification difference?
Is possible that bcuz of the weather where u live is why they have concerns about overheating? I have the "Hello" stays on 24/7. No overheating. I'm in N.Y.
Hello, thank you for you video it was very helpfull. I wanted to ask you where does you doorbell sound when you ring it? I want the doorbell to ring on my iphone, like using my iphone as the chime, but cant manage to do so. Video works, notifications work, but I cant make it ring on my iphone or ipads. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
@@simonsayshi I've had the eufy dual doorbell pro, but I had to wait 7 seconds to get a notification and I had to wait another 6-7 seconds to get into the livestream
You would actually need to modify the mount because it has to be mounted to turn on. The mount also covers the USB-C port so I don't think that would be possible. You can get a transformer and plug it into the wall and wire it that way. I use one of these amzn.to/3guoU98 with one of these amzn.to/3sHfb4f and it works great.

Ha… scene at the end was the best! Kids rule the house. 😂
So the new Nest Battery can be wired. Maybe they should emphasize this. Thank you for this video I had NO idea.
Those horizontal lines in the black plastic circle are weird. What's the reason for that?
A Nest camera without 24/7 recording isn't a big deal it all. It's kind of the opposite of what I need and defeats the purpose of using Nest over something like Ring.
Can i Change the Battery of the device. For example after two years when the Battery lost half of its Capacity?
How long does the battery last between charges and how hard is it to remove from the wall for recharging?
Or will they just disappear after 3 hours
so i will have to use google home, instead of the nest app?
How long does the battery last
What tablet is being used in this review?
the biggest issue i have with changing from nest wired to this is the processing speed. is there a comparison on delay from doorbell to notification difference?
Good to see that I have no reason to not keep my Nest Hello.
When i wire the 199$ google bell, does the wire charge the battery ? Or only for chime ?
This or ring video doorbell pro 2?
Can you connect any external Google Nest cameras to this and watch the videos from the same app like you can Ring?
Does it work with Home Assistant?
Is possible that bcuz of the weather where u live is why they have concerns about overheating? I have the "Hello" stays on 24/7. No overheating. I'm in N.Y.
sorry im new to this, why do you need 24/7 recording?
how do you reset it so i can change the wifi i removed it from home first n now i can’t get it to work
Is it a direct swap
From the gen1? If hardwired
Thanks!
May I know if the doorbell still working while charging? let said if I build a casing with a USB always charging it
is it ok with homekit ?
I wanna get the new floodlight. I think I’ll stick with the original nest hello because it doesn’t record 24 seven
Only complaint is the delayed notification and lack of sound when person at door
Compared to eufy it's a huge difference, nest is faster with notifications
@@-never-gonna-give-you-up- i have had it 2 full months now. And for no monthly fees id say it does a great job.
@@simonsayshi I've had the eufy dual doorbell pro, but I had to wait 7 seconds to get a notification and I had to wait another 6-7 seconds to get into the livestream
I was afraid Google was going to downgrade all of the new Nest products. Yup. They have. Bummer.
Do we know if there are any concerns if we hard wire via USB-C all day? Will we run into any Thermo issues?
You would actually need to modify the mount because it has to be mounted to turn on. The mount also covers the USB-C port so I don't think that would be possible. You can get a transformer and plug it into the wall and wire it that way. I use one of these amzn.to/3guoU98 with one of these amzn.to/3sHfb4f and it works great.
@@SmartHomeSolver it will be cool if you can show us a video on it.
I'm sure I'm not the only lazy one that doesn't want to worry about charging it. Lol
