Hey everyone! The Trailmakers gods have blessed us with a new UPDATE, EXPANSION, DLC, WHATEVER you want to call it...and it's amazing! In this awesome new update we get a large new map, four NEW unique islands, 100+ hidden treasures to collect, secret locations to uncover, stormy weather with PROPER physics, sails, new seat, and much MORE! In this episode I decide to INTENTIONALLY venture INTO the vortex of doom to see what's inside! What secrets does the vortex hold? Will we perish or will we find treasures? regarding the orb there are two possibilités:
1 it's something left there by the devs for future content
2 it's just a tool linked to the vortex, a behind the scene part

The short version: *Charybdis* was a daughter of Poseidon, the king god of the seas. At one point, Poseidon fought with his brother, Zeus, over territory, and Charybdis helped her father by flooding much of the land (possibly a mythical explanation of "the world wide flood") In his anger, Zeus turned Charybdis into a giant creature, sort of a huge bag with flippers, chained her to the bottom of a narrow straight in the Caspian Sea, and gave her an unquenchable thirst for sea water. Three times a day she would open her mouth and swallow huge amounts of sea water, thereby lowering the sea levels to dry the land, and causing the whirl-pool depicted in this game. According to the ancient myths, Odysseus was the only human to ever pass through the straight and survive the whirlpool. He survived - his boat and most of his men didn't.

KOZMO is pretty good as a designer when it comes to air and water, Pretty much, gotta say, he is better in the circle.

do you also think the submarine looks a bit like a hotdog during construction?
I don't think a sunbathing would work for the vortex, but I'm imagining a drone with a fishing magnet at the bottom, if there is an artifact in there, you might have to yank it out
From a programming perspective it might be a place holder for future content, basically a marker for the devs to put the new stuff
What would you put in a sea monster though?
If only there was someone you could play with, someone u had a coop series with before who also plays this dlc that could pilot the drone back to shore after the drop, or even pick u back up. then u wouldnt have to code a autopilot system to save mythical resources. That would be sweet ;)

Hi Kosmo I just finished looking at this in free cam and found out what it is:
If you go to the frozen area and the yellow teleported and go underwater you will see that there are these tubes with yellow dots on them, when I used free cam in the vortex you can see that there are multiple orbs under the ground.
They look the exact same as the orbs on those tubes that go through the underwater of the frozen area
I think they are some kind of technology from the people who built the artefacts and they were studying the vortex!!
Edit: before the screen fades to black you can still see that there’s something the orb is on that looks like it could be one of the tubes

It could be as simple as a lure. Angler fish have a glowing lure like that to attract prey
Mississippi Paddle Wheel Boat. Wheel doesn’t have to be big just functional. Unless you want to go all out, your designs are really sick so I would definitely not complain.

The devs should add a geyser that's actually the other end of the monster because that would make sense for the water to be going somewhere.
It's most likely Charybdis, the vortex that is. However the myth concerning it always pairs it with the Scylla, a type of aquatic hydra. Charybdis was an actual natural occurring whirlpool until an earthquake changed the sea floor and disrupted the current that formed it. It'd be interesting if the Scylla counter part was added or referred to. All that's said about Charybdis is that it's an "unknown monster" but it ate sailor and ship whole. That yellow orb could be it's heart or eye, but it could also be an asset or a vertex point that is where the ocean is supposed to originate it's conical pattern for the whirlpool.
I'm curious if you can use one of the many sound barrier breaking creations out there to possibly shoot through it or shoot outside the wind barrier. I've posed the question to Scrapman, but he's actually playing the game. . . .

What is that yellow spot in the center of the vortex? Every trap needs bait….
I feel like you should have just turned the drone to scrap
(You can do that in the detachment settings, took me WAY too long to figure that out)
As for ideas, I think something like this could be really interesting if you start with a boat, go to submarine, then somehow re-attach and drive the boat again.
It’s by no means very easy, but it should theoretically make the underwater items a lot easier because you won’t need to worry about them affecting the submarine’s controllability.
The glowing sphere probably is a function tool for variable effects in game, like the vortex spinnig center itself. The mouth seems definitely the greek mythological monster on the Sicily (my home) coasts of city of Messina. It's called "CARIDDI" in italian. So the phonetic "Carybdis" seems indicate the pretty same creature.
Kosmo - lets drop into what looks like the mouth of a giant sea creature and see what happens.
Also kosmo - surprised when a giant mouth = death.
That's cool that you found the carrier, I wonder if they will tie that into any kind of story or it's just an easter egg.
i'm pretty sure the "yellow glowing thing" is just the sparks of your sub geting broken

for anyone wondering whats actually downm there:
on a multiplayer server, best one thats dying from lags, you can go down there with a spaceship cockpit with some lights on, and open build mode before the immortality from the lags end. its always a bit different, but its always a more or less or that glows in something in the green - yellow spectrum
I would love to see you try to make an airship using rotatable sails to try to generate lift and such.
nothing is down there ive been down, to get down use a spaceship cocpit instead of the diving bell bc the spaceship cocpit is strong and you can go underwater with it.
i have an idea of how to get in to the center of the vortex, you can build a crawler that goes on the ocean floor maybe???
You would need some pretty serious weight in order to get enough traction and not be flipped over, the current in the vortex is pretty intense.
you can make the detachable blocks destroy what you deployed from, by setting them to make scrap/debree
Heavy azurik vibes from that giant whirlpool; it too featured a deathwall with a glowy bit at the bottom that tantalized me greatly. Cool to see you explore this! Giant, chaotic natural phenomena have that mystery and grand scale about them that begs for exploring

You need to use the spaceship cockpit as its indestructible and able to go underwater
If you want to know more about charybdis, she is a female creature and when she sucks in it pulls in everything around her feeding her essentially and when she snaps her mouth shut everything goes calm again
I searched and nobody has done paddle wheel boat in 3 yrs. Game changed a lot since then. Even then there’s only 2 videos. I think it’s time to revisit the paddle wheel boat idea.
kosmo go to the corners of the map, the winds get to 500kph and the waves are like 200m high
I have a thought about the orb. When you go to the snow area, you will see an underwater tower with lights that are the same colour as said orb. If this is true, the vortex could be placed there and created by whoever else made the same coloured lights. Just a hypothesis though!

The ship from the beginning of stranded in space is actually in the dlc- there is a spawn point sbove the vortex, it actually spawns you on the ship, instead of underwater or on a ridiculously stable wooden platform.

Build a VTOL (verticak take-off and landing vehicle) -you can land or takeoff anywhere -you can travel fast -can hold a lot of cargo

Btw the vortex is probably just an eldridge creature maybe a large coral either way its managed to make all of the world's wind system move in a spiral... impressive.
Think Bert, but instead of rowing he has paddle wheels down the length made with the new rows like a tank. Running them the length will get rid of the rotational issues of just one in the back trying to flip the boat when you crank the speed up. I’ve never seen it done before. Even Scrapman never thought to try it. I don’t have a pc so I can’t try myself. I wonder how good it could be?
Maby the glowing "artifact" is a prison for the vortex.
Another theory is that the orb was a spirit of water but it was a bad spirit then the other spirits forced it into the orb and it escaped to assume its original form and purpose but it got caught.
My last theory is that the orb is trying to suck up all the water to restore the land to how it originally was.
In think you could make a pretty sick glider type vehicle using the sails.
Also I was pretty happy to see you in this week's scrap mechanic multi-player Monday. I hope that keeps up.

yeah, i noticed that it was a sea monster after going into it 20 times. it gets dark and i didnt know why. my friend pointed out that its mouth was closing so i checked it out. and sure enough, it was infact closing. another thing is that it has a throat at the middle. when i discovered this i searched it up on youtube and here i am now
The vortex is the sarlacc pit and the flying vehicle is jabba's vehical when he tries to drop peaple inside

So I've got two theories as to what might be your deadly mouth object.
First: No idea what the object would reference, but it could be an easter egg just inside the mouth to make reference to something. Not entirely sure, but that's an idea.
Second: It's not terribly likely, but that could be just an object put in the game for the devs to pull code from. A lot of developers will put in a game what's called a dev cube, which essentially runs all the necessary code for the game from one object for resource management. That could be what's inside the mouth, culling that area into a death pit in general.
Other than that, you're guess is as good as mine as to what you're seeing in there. XD
Maybe once you collect all of the artifacts it'll have something to do with the vortex

The glowing thing on the inside is the kraken because if you go to the ice area there are frozen tentacles in the ice caves
The vortex is like the angler fish but its just not hidden, that is what the orb for reeling player for food.
There's nothing actually in the vortex sadly. I flew a plane vehicle into it and somehow managed to glitch it out enough that I was standing under the water in the vortex, and it's just empty inside. Honestly quite disappointing, I was hoping for some cool easter egg

Build a base over the vortex, so you can walk down to the center.
I got into the center and used build mode to look around apparently from what I see it's like a pipe or a type of weird tube thing idk what it is lol

On my first encounter with the vortex I didn’t even realize what I was going into until I saw all the teeth in my sailboat so it wouldn’t row itself back out again and once I got to the middle it flipped and as soon as my character touched the ground underneath the water I immediately died
Kinda reminds me of what nasa has been doing with their mars rover, recently i think theyve had to do some transition stuff from a lander like craft, is that where you got the idea from?

I want to see some real relic collecting, maybe try to make a single vehicle for air and water, optionally land as well for every remaining relic, and just so you know, the blue collector is south of the vortex, green is west, red is east, and yellow is north.
It is possible- I already got all of the relics in the game, only about 7 or so were either not collected by the vehicle I mainly used or I resorted to glitches to find them (“glitches” as in spawning your vehicle in the terrain to locate -100 altitude yellow vases)

charybdis is a creature and that mouth leads directlyh into the melly so yoru kinda fricked once you enter
I somehow managed to get inside the bottom of the vortex about half an hour ago. My vehicle kept getting destroyed and I was sent around and around and around. I managed to get the camera angled just right so I could see the bottom. It was just sand as far as I could see and I didn't see any glowing orb.
