I run a similar set up. Ferris 52” and a Ferris 36”. Old f250 with a 7.3 diesel, 16ft. trailer. Cheap rack from Amazon and a mixture of shindawia and echo power equipment. About $22k worth of equipment in all. Bought a few accounts to get me started and I’m growing. Added 15 accounts in less than 3 months. Good customers that pay on time all year and I absolutely love it. It is hot and it’s hard work but damn I love working for myself.
I average just over $1000/day (purely solo) with a very similar setup. I did beef up the leaf springs on my single axle 7x12. I have No small engine racks with the deck space on my trailer. I use 36" & 52" Scag standers for the same reasons you run gravely. $20k is also right about the cost of my rig. I switched from heavy duty to a half ton truck in 2018, but I never pull anything other than my single axel lawn rig. Keep LawnTube reels coming, JC! I truly appreciate you!
you might have some suspension issues on that trailer. your axle isnt centered in the fender. usually means something isnt right there. possibly loose u-bolts or worn leaf spring mounts. just something i noticed in video.
Good advice. I have a 5x14 single axle trailer I like the few extra ft in length and it holds 2 zt's plus a walk behind and cans and blowers. I had to go 5 ft. so it would fit in the gate of my yard. I kept my old 5x10 as a back up or in case I want to run another crew.
Only gripe about that rig would be that pas edger. I ran pas for a couple years. The edger will eventually twist and get wobbly once the quick connect in the shaft get significant wear. A dedicated edger solved all the problems with the head shifting every time you hit anything hard (root, rock etc...) Yes, two hedge trimmers running at once is clutch. Eliminate priority tasks as quickly as possible...then drop n' chop.
I'm in Northern Indiana.. picking up my 1st trailer tonight 5X10 single axle. My closest dealer is exmart, hustler, cub cadet. Doing a demo on a Radius 52 " next week. I still work FT and mow 4 yards with FW 15 out of mini van. Takes me way too long unloading/ loading and walking the 2 acres. Cut,trim, edge
6 by 12 inclosed trailer is cheaper than u think $2,800 to $3300. Pros is huge advertising you can put on it. Yoh dont waist time loading and unloading it in the morning when ubget started or and of day putting equipment up. Thats 20 minutes aday waisted by 220 working days a year thats 78 hrs a year so it definitely pays fir itself just in that aspect. And your logo and # on the sides os more visible. I run all inclosed but no fancy equipment toro 36 inch and honda push commercial. We get average of 12 new calls just off of the advertising on the inclosed trailers.
I'm eventually going to go for enclosed or some kind of frame to support solar panels because I'm experimenting with all electric. Also will double as equipment storage without renting or building a separate storage. Until then, 6x12 is working fabulously.
There's a solo operator who does lawn mowing as a side job in my town who had two 60 inch john deere sit down zero turn, both highest end models who goes on and on about that's the brand you need to have on your trailer. I told him, the only person that cares about you having john deere is you. Your clients couldn't give a shit less your mower brand on the trailer. Show up, cut the lawn is what they care about.
I think it’s a great setup. I have a 60 inch Exmark vertex and a 60 Lazer Z with bagger. Also a 30 inch toro that will be getting gone. Tired of walking at my age. The bagging get tiresome at time but it makes money. Thinking about getting back to the simple setup because I only bag two yards a week.
I do 30-50k a year running solo with a scag vride XL 52” on a tiny 5x8 single axle tractor supply trailer I bought brand new 10 years ago. I toss all my hand tools in the bed and it sucks. But it works.
Dope video! I have almost the same set up. 36 gravely pro stance and 48 inch sit down gravely. Same trailer. Looking for a new truck What’s a good used truck to tow my rig with
Great content. Eventually I would like to buy a used Isuzu NPR and have my truck and trailer for back up. I have the same set as you but I use Scag Vrides. What do you think about the Isuzu NPR?
Hey Jonathan, Will with Cutti g Edge. I ha e missed your content for a while, but I'm back, brother. You know you changed my business. I have missed if you did the new house tour or not after you got it done. Can you hook us up with an updated tour or if I missed can you point me to the right video?
Good video man! How much revenue will you generate with that setup on average day? Btw I love having a trailer less setup.. I would have occasional issues with trailers from time to time..
@@FloridaTurfPros same. Any issues carrying 2 standers? A few years back I had a gravely compact pro 34 and a radius 48 in there and it was about maxed out definitely didn’t like to be that close to max capacity.
I see you are using the PAS-225. Do you find that it provides plenty of power for the stick edger attachment? I'm trying to make my decision on getting the 225 or the PAS-2620 which is more power but also more money.
2620 has more power but in my experience junks out just as quickly as the 225… not worth the extra money in my opinion. 225 has enough power to run edger no problem.
Yea. I looked into car detailing... 3 months of research on products, I gave up. Its all junk... All industrys are imo... Just get the equipment that makes you happy, reliable, affordable, and provides the results you want.... its that simple.. Anything you dont use once a week, is worthless...
It’s always best to actually check the rating of your axle, but a general rule of thumb is 500 pounds per lug nut on your trailer tire. I have a 3500 pound axle on this trailer.
If ya’ll are just mowing, 3 employees or under, then no as long as you file an exemption for yourself. If you do any landscaping work then you have to have workers comp even with just one employee.
Yes, I guess basic really is relative. For example, I saw an ExMark 144 inch cut today at my dealer that was sold for $83,000 and I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see the invoice. So yeah I don’t think 16 grand for two brand new mowers is too bad.
Depends on the area. Last year, I did landscape work for an older lady who was only paying $85 to get over 1.5 acres mowed. I also know a guy who is paying $50 for 0.65 acres biweekly that is always over grown and leaves junk in his yard that if not removed can damage a mower. The same lawn guy that is doing the $50 mow spent 12 hours trimming hedges, doing landscaping, and mowing for $200.
Some people might laugh at my solo setup. I laugh all the way to the bank!

I'll say a enclosed trailer is nice because it keeps everything dry and secured.
I run a 52" Scag hydro walk behind and a 36" toro belt drive on my 5x8 trailer. Pretty damn efficient.

Excellent content brother. This channel is a wealth of valuable information. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Love it. Prolly wouldn’t start w 2 but def a 34-36. Great video👍👍
All I have is a push mower, weed Wacker, and blower on the back of my truck with a strap! 😅

Let’s go!
Let’s face it…most equipment purchases are ego driven and trying to portray a certain image to the public 😂

💯 simplify if possible
I respect it.
I have pretty much the same set up!
It’s nice to have good looking New things. But I can get the job done just as good as anyone with the fancy stuff. Hard work pays off

Don’t forget back up equipment and trucks everyone don’t talk bad about so much equipment when it all breaks eventually

Keep it simple and make $$$$!!
We run 5x8 trailers with a 52in Walk Behind, and a 21inch Honda. Less fatigue, and easier to tow. I can’t wrap my head around enclosed trailers.

agreed. also i really think of companies do it for internet clicks
Simple but effective. I also have a 6x12 single axle but it’s my backup setup. Do you have a 3,500 lb axle or larger?
3500

2 stand on mowers. Do u get fatigued in the legs during ur route? I’m thinking of going completely stand on.
Stander wins for us by a long shot

No you can’t

"basic equipment"
[Immediately shows two $10,000 mowers.]

10k is better than the 25k for walkers wjere i live and thats what we run up north almost exclusively.
If you run solo and only need one mower it would be $10k for the entire setup. That can be easily recouped in a couple months of mowing.
Not sure why everyone says mowing is low margin though. I feel like $50 in 15 - 20 minutes is pretty good.
