Bar sonic actually has just straight up saved workshop. All of your character still have my absolute favorite animation and VFX design out of anything I've seen on workshop. The character is an absolutely blast to play, great work as always (though I'm a bit surprised one of his runes isn't a 2 flickies reference).

These guys gave Sonic an actual versatile moveset unlike Smash Bros, which basically made his entire moveset just variations of his Spindash.

@@Bar-Kun I quit the Smash series after Ultimate due to reasons and refuse to go back, and even I had to bring up the elephant in the room.
Though...I guess Rivals of Aether does look more like a standard fighting game with brawler elements in it than just another Smash clone.

This is the best mod to ever release for rivals ever. I haven’t yet really been this impressed with anything else so far, and I gotta say, I hope you branch out and reach a couple other characters that exist as modded characters but not very good ones and do something like this for them.

honestly i just never liked how sonic specifically was designed, both in smash and in fan movesets, especially with all the countless versions of him existing on the workshop already
but personally i'd rather do characters that i know nobody else would dream of making than characters that were already done, we'll see what the future holds i guess

imo this is peak Sonic character mod in rivals
This Sonic has everything(this is an exaggeration) that made people love Sonic back in the day, the stylish, cool, flashy, and acrobatic hedgehog out here with his idle animation(reminds me of his idle animation from the Rush games), moveset, mechanics, and aesthetic being heavily based on Adventure 1 to Heroes. The sprites being heavily based on yuji uekawa from the pose tricks he does. Hell, when you win a match, you'll be given a Rank at the results screen which is hilarious. This Sonic feels like the Sonic you KNOW and LOVE back when you were young from your good old days

i really wanted to make you feel like sonic when you play as him (other than just liking the adventure aesthetic, i'm biased) and the aesthetics of those games honestly just fits him

I’ve seen people did say they eventually didn’t like Smash Moveset but I think prefer Rivals Of Aether Moveset inspired with the past Sonic games like his Speed Dash, Humming Top, Sonic Eagle, 💨 Boost, Cyclone 🌀 Kick and Wild Rush from Sonic Frontiers and you know stuff like that is related into his Other classic moves in each mainline game etc.
@@rowanprogamer9023 for me, it's actually less about the moveset itself and more about the playstyle that sonic has in smash/other movesets that bothered me

Unironically one of my favorite ws characters I've ever played. I love how you captured the feel of SA Sonic rather than modern, which makes this character way more unique in the sea of ws sonics. Great stuff man, keep it up!!!

@@Bar-Kun yeah I played as him and thought the down string was from frontiers, but yeah it’s not. Still though, super cool move set. I love the combo momentum and boost stuff. It’s fantastic
He's so cool! Glad you gave him a more interesting forward aerial than Sonic Eagle from Sonic Battle (I know it's similar to Kirby's but tbh it works perfectly)
yeah the sonic eagle is fine but it felt super overdone and it doesn't really help with combos as much
hummingtop just felt a lot more natural to the idea of shooting sonic forward and keeping the flow going

Bruh his moveset rocks! I just wish I could use his Super Sonic skin but it's really laggy for some reason. Other than that he's pretty epic.

This Sonic mod has quickly grown into being my second main next to Mecha Sonic.
My only complaint that I have, Is that Super Sonic tends to give me a bit of frame delay. He's obviously too *Undefeatable* for the game to handle. XD

While I have your attention, I was thinking up some rune ideas.
The first one I can think of is a massive change, replacing Sonic's neutral aerial with the Sonic Boom attack from Frontiers. He'd basically hover in the air and shoot slashes until the button is unpressed, or he hits the ground.
The other is another reference to Frontiers: holding the neutral special (Homing Attack) will create two Sphere projectiles, which home in on the target with Sonic.
The last one is a bit more simple; Sonic has turbo mode by default.
No idea how possible any of these would be, but I think it would be cool. :D
What I love about this trailer is that this is MY Sonic. Like…Sonic is still Sonic, sure. But I miss the Modern Sonic from Heroes-Generations and maybe Lost World. Like, Sonic is still cool and my favorite character, but Sonic isn’t as cocky and badass, my Sonic did flips and tricks with a big smirk in a situation no other video game character could get out of, the recent Sonic has been more mature. I miss the teenage hedgehog.
honestly same, the most sonic he has been to me was in the like adventure-black knight era, but i wanted to go for something more specifically adventure
it's the reason for a lot of ideas and visual aesthetics are the way they are on him and i'm super proud of it myself

This mod is amazing! There’s so much personality in Sonic’s moveset! My only complaint is that you haven’t uploaded the remix for the windy hill stage yet it’s really good :(

i dont even own rivals of aether but im loving the hell out of this, i recently finished sonic adventure and its one of my favourite games now.
will be honest though, the bigger pixel art isnt as spectacular as the ingame sprites, such as the big picture sonic or windy valley stage.
the big picture sonic feels slightly stiff, and windy valley looks sort of mixed together on the rocks, and unappealing
(edit: giving it a better look, the background may be the main thing in windy valley, and it might just be the arm. )

(no music emeralds dont work its only the one with music) (the chaos emeralds pet with the gold ring around it not the silver one)
i was originally gonna do that before release but i didn't know how to add the compatibility, it still needs work though
(also the super sonic lagging, i know of that but i o need to sit on it and optimize his code better)

Super Sonic appears to be broken - when transforming with the Chaos Emerald buddy, he just uses his regular sprites. I also can't seem to access his alternate palettes past 8
both of those problems aren't on me
the buddy is on the buddy's side, seems to be an issue there
on the alts stuff, try uninstalling and reinstalling, it's been a problem with workshop for a long time and nobody knows why

@@greenknight9000 I initially had the alternate palette issue as well- have you unlocked the Milestone/Abyss skins for the base cast? Because when I unlocked those, I gained access to all of Sonic's Palettes.
I've been always wanting to animate sonic and other rival of aether characters sprite unless if theres a sprite sheet of them
there isn't really a sprite sheet for most rivals sprites since most people make it themselves for the game specifically with no plans of using them for anything beyond that
but you can always go around asking/notifying you want to use certain sprites, if through steam comments, on youtube trailers, twitter etc etc

chaos i turned into an SSL character cuz i wasn't happy with my main mechanic for him
shadow was a pretty weak concept compared to sonic so i ultimately chose him instead
but i am hoping someone else would be able to make a cool new take on shadow after the lexicon version was up for so long
