Heyup Gareth, a Tibshelfian and keen walker here. This is a lovely tribute to Tommy Hullatt. Also on the trail is a plaque for my great uncle Cyril Leason who was big pals with Tommy and also founded and organised the Hardwick Hall 10k Road Race from Pilsley to Hardwick for 30 years! Thanks for the vid, subbed.
Fascinating story about young Tom Hulatt, but I can't say it surprised me to be honest. I agree with what you commented about athletic opportunities; even if I say so myself, I was a *very* good runner, but had neither the ways nor means to take it further; but perhaps it just wasn't meant to be. Anyway, loved the drone footage of the old line; things like that put the walks more into perspective for me; I would appreciate seeing more overlays like that. New viewer here, so I know I've a fair bit of catching up to do. I'm actually binge watching as I knit socks. Carry on stomping Gareth 🚶♂Hope you enjoyed your glass of wine 🍷👍
Could be a movie right there about Tommy Hullat ! It's so wrong if what happened is true, could open a can of worms. Just where the track crossed Locko Lane there was a viaduct, which looked quite impressive. Nothing at all now to suggest it was ever there but for an information board with some photos at least. I rode along this trail a couple years ago, but didn't know the trail isn't always on the original alignment. I guess a lot of polluted spoil and earth was used to infil cuttings, a convenient way to bury it. Always nice to see a station building converted into a house, but a colliery building, someone had vision 👍🏻
I had no idea it was a viaduct on locko lane. I'll have to have a search! The Tommy Hulett story is definitely film worthy! Have to be British made though, as Hollywood would only use about 5% of his story, and make up the rest!
@@IckeWalks 🤣 Yes you're probably right 🤣 and everyone likes an underdog story. It's so difficult to see how these structures existed in the landscape nowadays, sad too really, it really was a hidden gem that viaduct. Keep on with the videos, I follow Wobbly Runner too, good to see these forgotten parts of local industry that I'm too young to remember or even have seen.
Chariots of Privilege. I know my place. When I'm not on a motorway but near enough to hear it I think of the freeway in the Matrix - is it real with real people or is it an NPC background effect?

Lovely tribute and deep respect for that Hullatt fellow. Thanks for bringing it to life with such gracious dignity and thanks for the walk. 🙌
Thanks mate.
Well done Tom ❤ very interesting walk Gareth.

Really interesting about the runner and the class based society we live in (still)
Love it.

@@leegreveson I really enjoy his videos. Trekking and towpaths is decent too.
When horses and deer attack! Persistant contrails playing noughts and crosses I see.
