That was a great wee trip Sam. Great to see you reviewing a loco that is larger than you! So sweet of Chloe to give you such an excellent gift for the guy that has nearly every model loco!!
A great video and well presented. I love the toilet scene and how Chloe crashed the place. She seems a lovely girl, make sure you love and look after her.
Nice to see you at GCR Sam. I go there a few times every year for the variety of visiting locomotives that run there, and I'm never disappointed. It takes us back down memory lane to all those nostalgic times many people remember, the sight, the sound, the smells, the atmosphere of yesteryear. And being partly double tracked adds some extra realism to the experience.
This is awesome Sam, we need to see Chloe more she's great! Looks like you have a great time, I definitely need to visit the GCR at some point! Ah yes and make the Sam'sTrains Bog Tours a regular series please, maybe something on the livestreams? 🤣
haha thank you very much! Yeah she is great - we're going to do more heritage railways soon! Can highly recommend the GCR, it's awesome (and has some great bogs too of course!) Thanks for watching, Sam :)
What a great day you had among all the locos and riding in the trains. Bless Chloe for indulging you and letting you have some fun. Gotta love the ladies who do that, and she looked very happy too. She certainly adds to Sams Trains and it's always a pleasure to see you enjoying yourselves. She could be a keeper, Sam!
Great film ! Thanks to Chloe ! Nice to see you , yes a railway to watch when it gets connected to Nottingham , also theres a branch line off to MountSorrel well worth a visit running again shortly , all in all a great day out !
Hehehehe excellent Chloe, you need to get the 'old boy' out more often! I'm based near Bluebell Railway in East Sussex and have enjoyed their Pullman evening dining experience, so I know exactly how it feels to be almost taken back in time to good service and food! It's nice to be spoiled and get spoiled occasionally! Maybe if the purse strings permit you could both do other tours of preserved railways, its insightful and you're both a good dynamic! I suspect Sam'll have to do the honourable thing next and present a ring for a railway themed wedding! 👍👍👍
Nice video Sam and Chloe. Can also recommend this. My wife and I few years ago took the evening meal and we loved it. Coach was full of life, staff were happy and efficient. Loved it all. The vibe on platform at Loughborough before we left was great, nostalgic, brass band and real ale, steam chuffing, friendly staff. The seats on train were really comfortable and coach was so cosy. It was summertime when we were there (although been raining earlier but sunny when we arrived at station in evening) but all was so relaxing and fun. Next day did went back to station to look at locos, depot, station etc before driving back south. Highly recommended.
This is a brilliant vid Sam. Great to see you and the lovely Chloe. I wish I was back in England taking in the sights and the smells of the steam locos. Well done Sam.
Sam, that’s a nice video and exudes the feel of traditional English railways. I visited some and loved the authentic presentation. You both obviously enjoy railways and look forward to more please.
Aah, our local railway, we did the Sherwood Forester dining experience a few years ago for a wedding anniversary. Been back to the Great Central a couple of times since, hopefully they will join it up with Ruddington one day for a longer run. Also been on the Santa Special at Ecclesbourn last 2 years, just bought a Dublo 2 6 4 standard tank and changed it's running number to 80080 to match the Ecclesbourn one. We really enjoy your videos, bought a 3d printer because of your inspiration. Having fun designing and printing spare parts and scenic elements.
Nice one Sam and Chloe. It looks like a grand day out for you both finished off with some great cheese. You must have been over the moon. Those 1:1 scale models are incredibly detailed and to the naked eye could be mistaken for the real thing. Although we didn't see the unboxing, accessory bag or running in, the mechanism was great, No dodgy pickups on any the locos. All running locos had sound fitted and a brilliant crawl. This layout must have been in a huge loft as well. Joking aside I'll have to take a trip up to the GCR at some point. That definitely look like a Peak diesel and I think I noticed a class 25 lurking as well. Seeing a couple of Ivatt class 2's moguls was a real treat, one or both may have been standard class 2's but I'm a bit rusty on the major differences. A top job well done and thanks for sharing. I'm green with envy that you drove a 9F. My late father and I drove an ex GWR 0-6-2 tank (sorry I forget the number) on the East Somerset Railway some 20 odd years ago and that was a great experience.
I lived in Loughborough for many years before retirement from the time when the GCR was first set up as a heritage railway. Early train dining consisted of beans on toast and strong tea along just a couple of miles of track. Like so many of our heritage lines to see the effort that has been put in by both hands on volunteers and financial backers over the years makes our railway heritage movement the envy of the world. In the case of this railway you will soon be able to travel from Ruddington just south of Nottingham to Leicester via Loughborough through charming English countryside, doubling the length of the current journey. I can't wait. A great video production, well done.
I always find it amazing that those big engines can trickle along on like 2% throttle and cosy up to their trains.... and within seconds power away at 100%......
What an incredibly nice change of pace for a video, i found it very lovely to watch, you're both quite humorous and the filming was well done! hope to see more of these kinds of videos!
Good to see you and Chloe had a wonderful time on the GCR 1st Dining train. I was once on a 1st class dining train pulled by 60163 Tornado at the Severn Valley Railway back in 2019 as a birthday present.
Sam - Chloe is really, really, really, really LOVELY !!!!! She also has a wonderful speaking voice & "tone" - You should have her doing more 'voice over' presentations Please consider it
Sam you did not mention the GCR platforms where you decend from the bridge to the platform, a GCR feature. the video takes me back as my father worked on the line during the BR days as a Fireman then Driver and worked out of Annesly Sheds.
Beautifully filmed and produced, really doing justice to the GCR. I was born and bred very close to where the GCR loco shed now is. My first railway memories (from the 1950s) are of A3 Pacifics on the GCR, including Flying Scotsman. By the way, my parents always pronounced it as Rothley (like both, not like Rothmans) and I can't believe that they pronounced it wrongly!
Same here. I loved the GC and was on the last late special behind Elder Dempster Lines. I was at school down on the Met/GC joint line so saw the GC trains to Marylebone sharing the Met's electric lines around Rickmansworth. I feel strange when I ride the Nottingham tram using the GC trackbed south of Victoria amd over the Midland station.
Good on Chloe. That looks like a mint experience. Loughborough is less than an hour from us at Worksop, so we may have to try it out. Esp the dining experience.
Great video, bringing back fond memories of lugging suitcases before the wheels 🛞 type came along and having to throw them up onto the high luggage racks and avoiding other passengers heads !
Even for relaxed dress standards, wearing your best 'smart casual' T-shirt for first class dining?! You really go all out don't you Sam! Lucky Chloe. o.O
Sam i know what you mean about the 9F. Back in 1900 and frozen to death i was a winner of a colouring competition the prize was a trip on the so called zoom express (it was sponsored by walls ice cream) from Paddington to Swindon works museum. It was hauled by evening star which was fairly new at the time. I was young so although I didn’t get to drive i did get shown around the cab by the loco crew. It remains a highlight of my life/
If it wasn't for a Tracy Ullman video I wouldn't have discovered the pleasing number of British heritage railways. I'm a retired railroad conductor so naturally I take an interest. I thoroughly enjoy your Thomas videos since my wife and I raised our boys viewing the Shining Time Station series on PBS television. We do have some preserved railway operations here in the United States, but not on the scale as you have in the UK. I'm certain that wedding bells are in the future for you and Chloe. Your loft layout is wonderful. I have an O gauge and an O27 gauge layout. The O gauge is for the Lionel trains and the O27 is for the Marx. I also preform my own repairs and take great satisfaction in keeping these vintage trains in top mechanical condition. Take care and God bless.
That was very interesting. The food looks good and the evening setting in the train is quite something. You really enjoyed it and you do convey that pleasure to us viewers!
Excellent preserved line the GC, love the variety of engines and of course the DMUs, later in the year there's a bus rally on site at Quorn station. Looks like you had an enjoyable day.
Starting your train meal with steaming hot soup. Main course was off the rails good. Chuffed about desert as the happy couple clickety clacks into the future... The adventures of Chloe and Sam. Thanks for sharing a fun day (filled with puns as well).
Good video. This steam railway is a nice place. Those 2 steam engines is looking good and runs very well too. I like the station as well. Thanks for sharing this, all the best from Josh
Great! Try the Severn Valley Railway next... it's twice the length and far better, not too far away from the GCR. Also has greater variety of locos and rolling stock.. with genuine teaks, 2 rakes of western coaches, and a rake of LMS coaches.. also has many locos including an Ivatt 4MT "Mucky Duck" (the only one preserved) , Bullied pacific, a hall, a Manor and a standard 4 along with about 5 others!
Wow, a proper token! On the Heaton Park tramway, near Prestwich, Manchester, their token got lost years ago, they presently use a rolling pin! Great video as always!
8:27 they are defintely sprung😂, just takes alot more force, such as a locomotive, though i wonder how much it does take to push one of those, i tried it myself once on pannier tank, no luck.
I really recommend the nymr Mabry at the 50th anniversary steam gala in September. Bing hint there will be 16 locks running along with some visitors one of which hasn't run for 21 years and is named after a tv show
Brilliant to see Sam.....We did this a few years ago.Stopped in a guest house not far from the station. If i remember the ticket we purchased included as much exploring and travel on the railway as you wanted during the day..plus the evening dining train.I think its good going in the winter in that when it gets dark on the dining train you can lose a sense of where you are...Must look at doing this again.I wonder how it compares to the Severn Valley dining experience ? Cheers..Ade
My ex is from Leicester & I still live in Leicestershire. We went on that dining train, must be 20 years ago & loved it. Worth mentioning the santa specials they do at errmm xmas. My 2 kids as they were 20 years back loved it.
Reasonably regular visits to the GCR is one thing a miss since I moved away from Derby. That double track mainline is awesome. One year I treated my parents to Christmas Lunch: an excellent experience! The reunification project is well underway, so hopefully before I get too old I'll be able to travel from Nottingham to Leicester on the fully joined up GCR. PS: I was lucky enough to drive an 8F and the Robinson 04. It's a great experience, especially when you're not limited to 25mph.
Beautiful Standard 5 Locomotive Sam, wish you had more angles on it like you did with the 9F. The Dinning experience was exquisite I must say with the perfect ambiance and I am sure was all the more enjoyable with that perfect companion with you. Presentation of the Food was impeccable although I agree with you on the Halloumi...😁😁 Cheers mate, Michael.
The spacious coach is a recently back in service refurbished open coach to better serve people in wheelchairs. Standard service is mainly steam trains with a diesel pulling a couple while one of the steam pulls the mid day diner. This weekend (16 and 17th April) is a diesel gala though. Loads of trains running. I would say I’m one of the Duty Station Masters at Loughborough so am biased but think Great Central offers a full on heritage service being the only double track heritage railway in the country.
Great video Sam & Chloe. Will definitely be visiting the Great Central at some point. If you’re ever in Sussex I highly recommend the Golden Arrow dining train on the Bluebell Railway. Awesome!
Last year on a trip from Australia I enjoyed GCR's Steam Gala on a very wet weekday, along with plenty of other travellers. 92214 was one of four locos I rode behind: seven were in steam: amazing.
Happy reminiscing! Been to the GCR a few times over the years, the most memorable being a "Driving Experience" which was a 60th birthday present (!) I couldn't believe my luck when I turned up expecting to drive a "Thomas the Tank Engine" lookalike, only to find "Oliver Cromwell" waiting there on the platform! Talk about gobsmackingly good!!! Many years before that I remember seeing "Duke of Gloucester" in its pre-restored condition and thinking "they will never that THAT going again" - thankfully I was well wrong! It will be interesting to see how the "reunification" project goes, as there was at the time I was last there some quite bad blood between "GCR South" and "GCR North". I have childhood memories of standing on Ruddington station when it was still open in BR days watching steam services heading in and out of Nottingham Victoria. That will be "GCR North" of course these days!
I've been on this train a couple of times, when my sister and bro-in-law took me for a birthday treat, and later for a whodunnit evening, when we had to try to solve the murder mystery. Both were great fun.
Pretty neat to watch Sam and Chloe! Back in the days of steam and early diesel era (special built steam heating vans) they use to call steam headed carriages "saunas" here in NZ, as the carriages would often get hot and slightly steamy
I also had the dining experience to celebrate some ones retirement. I also drove and fired 43106 as a present for my 70th Birthday both on Severn Valley Railway.
We did this around a year ago without the meal. Nice it is shot in top quality 4K. As for the cream, probably just an innocent oversight, they would have probably provided you with this with just a gentle prod. We did not do the meal because I struggle with the seats as in, I am 17 stone, 6ft 1 with a 56 inch chest, I just do not fit. We both know that when these carriages were built people on the whole were a lot smaller. Brings back some nice memories, thanks for the video.
Very enjoyable video, well done you two. Interesting to learn about the GCR heritage - I'd love to pay a visit next time in UK. Very few in this part of the world, although there are steam trains running in winter in Dwellingup, not too far from Perth, Western Australia. Cheers, Angus.
Definitely worth going on if you can because of all the effort it takes to keep them running. They run them once a year where I am, sometimes I watch form the side and sometimes I go for a ride.
Delightful video, a most enjoyable tour of the Great Central Railway, and when you commented at Leicester North that it was the end-of-the-line, we saw the track ends! made me smile. Both locos were in excellent condition and we are likely to see Sam's Trains renumbering a model 9f to 92214? The evening episode looked wonderful and the food looked appetising! Thoroughly enjoyable to watch and I did have a fear and cringe moment when the discussion about the food, presumably at the Hotel BB at one moment thought Sam's Trains scoreboard was coming to make an appearance, but thankfully not! More, please? Ian 10/10
The GCR is my favourite heritage railway and I try to visit it every year. It's a short walk up the lane from Rothley Court Hotel Wonderful shot in the compartment. Traveling like that was normal for me on BR trains across England. Up to 90mph too!
The GCR is my local preserved railway so I've been to a few events there. It is really nice. Generally, I find the SVR more expensive but better. Butterly overall is a good day out and the kids love it.
I've never been but I really want to see it. I recommend the Middleton railway it is amazing! The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has a yearly pass now as well so that is good (£40 for each adult)
Haven't thought of doing this at the GCR but I'd be tempted to try it now, seeing this! Given the train ride is about £20 the price for the dining added on is pretty good I think. Great review Sam and Chloe, thanks very much for trying this out and giving us a sample of the experience. Well done 🙂
Love the wholesome dynamic here, and that they're both genuinely enjoying themselves
haha thank you very much - glad you enjoyed it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Chloe is lovely - more Chloe organised events please!
hahaha I agree!! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great job documenting your trip. Thanks for inviting us along - it was a real treat.
Thanks so much - really glad you enjoyed it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
That was a great wee trip Sam. Great to see you reviewing a loco that is larger than you! So sweet of Chloe to give you such an excellent gift for the guy that has nearly every model loco!!
haha thanks Alan - yeah I agree, it was a fantastic gift!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
A great video and well presented.
I love the toilet scene and how Chloe crashed the place.
She seems a lovely girl, make sure you love and look after her.
Thanks so much Steven, hahaha I know!! I certainly will look after her
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Chloe is a keeper!
She certainly is! :D
Thanks Sam and Chloe would like to see these every so often good to see the real thing.
Wow, that was lovely. Your Chloe is a star! lucky man Sam. Looks really nice, might have to try it one day.
Thanks very much - I've never been disappointed there either! Thanks for sharing,
Cheers,

This is awesome Sam, we need to see Chloe more she's great! Looks like you have a great time, I definitely need to visit the GCR at some point! Ah yes and make the Sam'sTrains Bog Tours a regular series please, maybe something on the livestreams? 🤣
haha thank you very much! Yeah she is great - we're going to do more heritage railways soon! Can highly recommend the GCR, it's awesome (and has some great bogs too of course!)
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains A good bog is a lovely thing. I only seem able to avail myself of standard bogs.
I second the bog reviews.......bog........the English and their odd words....
Gently delightful video Sam. Looks like the ideal sort of trip for a proposal…!
Channel name update: "Sam's and Chloe's Trains".
You guys are adorable, that was a real pleasure to watch.
haha thank you so much!! :D
You both looked like you had a great time! So much railway nostalgia and fun things to experience.
We did have a lovely time - really lovely railway! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Beautiful 9F. 👍 great vision, but that std 5 was just mint, amazing
Very much so - two gorgeous locos! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great film ! Thanks to Chloe ! Nice to see you , yes a railway to watch when it gets connected to Nottingham , also theres a branch line off to MountSorrel well worth a visit running again shortly , all in all a great day out !

Great video, guys, but I do feel a bit sorry for Chloe. She arranged the perfect circumstances and again you forgot the ring, Sam! 😉😂
hahaha I know I know!! ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Love it when you go on field trips.
Me too!! This one was great! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

What a great adventure. Wonderful job arranging everything, Chloe!
Even for relaxed dress standards, wearing your best 'smart casual' T-shirt for first class dining?! You really go all out don't you Sam! Lucky Chloe. o.O
I think they are both quite lucky, a well matched pair.
Any video starting the Dynamic Duo is always a good video. Enjoyed that! 😁👍
Good to see you escaping from the loft! Looking forward to Sam's railway bog blog coming soon.
Hi Sam & Chloe, Hope you had a great day, ( What a Grand Day Out ,) about time you had a break, All the best Brian 😃

Great vid Sam. I was born 1/4 mile from the GCR and loved this. Chloe is a natural!
Chloe is a keeper Sam!
Very good. So natural and thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Well done to both of you. Nige
Thank you so much Nige, appreciate it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Great video…makes me want to come back to England again and see the trains..thanks for taking us along
Beautiful Standard 5 Locomotive Sam, wish you had more angles on it like you did with the 9F. The Dinning experience was exquisite I must say with the perfect ambiance and I am sure was all the more enjoyable with that perfect companion with you. Presentation of the Food was impeccable although I agree with you on the Halloumi...😁😁
Cheers mate,
Michael.
Absolutely loved that video. Not far from me GCR and never been. Shackerstone is a nice little railway to visit. Andrew
👍👍Wonderful video Sam! Beautiful locomotives. Thanks for bringing us along! 🚂🚂
Glad you both enjoyed it! looked like a neat time!
Thank you!! It was a very neat time :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Happy reminiscing! Been to the GCR a few times over the years, the most memorable being a "Driving Experience" which was a 60th birthday present (!)
I couldn't believe my luck when I turned up expecting to drive a "Thomas the Tank Engine" lookalike, only to find "Oliver Cromwell" waiting there on the platform!
You are a luck guy to have someone share and encourage your interests. Beautiful video, thanks for sharing your experience.
Very nice video Sam, The Great Central Railway looks awesome! 😀
Great video by a beautiful couple. The back round music is enjoyable. Chloe is just TDC (too darn cute).
Glad you are getting out and about instead of being stuck in that loft! Thanks for uploading.
I enjoyed this video very very much.
What a wonderful time it must have been.
Loved the video. Great to see you out-and-about. Plus that 9F! Gorgeous!
ahhhh.. Loughborough stn.. takes me back to my univ days.. longgg time ago..
Looks like a fun experience for you and Chloe. Great video.
Ian 10/10
I'm glad you and chloe had a great time Sam ;)
Cheers Jasper & Willow
We really did, thank you very much! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The GCR is my favourite heritage railway and I try to visit it every year. It's a short walk up the lane from Rothley Court Hotel
Wonderful shot in the compartment.
Thanks very much for the suggestions - I'll definitely look at some of those!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Superb cosy video this is, great.
Haven't thought of doing this at the GCR but I'd be tempted to try it now, seeing this! Given the train ride is about £20 the price for the dining added on is pretty good I think. Great review Sam and Chloe, thanks very much for trying this out and giving us a sample of the experience. Well done 🙂
