That's a nice looking railway I must say. I work as a volunteer at a heritage railway in Belgium called Stoomtrein Maldegem - Eeklo. (And we have 2 British steam locomotives in our collection :D ) Great video Sam! Keep it up!
The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is my local heritage railway and have been going there for years. I am now a volunteer and a member of the Steam Team. Great video showing the my favourite heritage railway and all the different attractions at Wirksworth! 👍👍
Wow, what a great video Sam. That was really enjoyable your editing is so professional you should try and get out and do more of these. .. Watching you standing in the gangway between the two carriages as they were on the move certainly brought back memories for me as a kid travelling back in the early 60's...
Thank you Sam , for this change of pace episode ! I love that you have gone outside to show me something I’ve never seen before as well as the beautiful scenery. Cheers from California !
Excellent video sam, love the comedy aspect that comes out in these vids they are very entertaining. I'll add it to the list of railways I need to visit. Love the class 14 incredibly unusual in the br black as well, I think thats the only one in black. 👍👍
Great video, nice to see you in your element in full scale. I also enjoy some of your Fred Dibnah-isms! He was a great man. Greetings from Italy, the land of FS trains, railway engineers Caprotti, Franco and Crosti...and excellent pizza and other good grub.
Fantastic video Sam! Now you've filmed The great central railway, The Dartmouth steam railway, South Devon railway, the battlefield line and the ecclesbourne valley railway. I'd love to see you do a video on the severn valley railway as I live near there and visit very often. It's also a fantastic railway. Stunning scenery! All the best. -Oliver
Great to see you and your family. Thats the most footage I've ever seen of me ! Can't wait to show granddaughter what a superstar her 'gangad' is ! Come back soon mate ! John the Guard.
Super cool and nice to see a slice of history. Love the locomotives. Such a great team. Thanks for sharing this with us Sam. Well done for the extra camerawoman. Bet it was a bit windy. 🎉❤
It's cool to see other railways as a volunteer myself at a much different railway I like to see other railways without having to go and see them myself and I volunteer almost everywhere at my local heritage line I work both in the model railway and doing p way and maintenance of things well hope to get onto that as I'm still quite new to my local one but cool vid as always 👍
G’day Sam. I have just visited the Hotham railway at Dwellingup, near Perth, in Western Australia. It is a place of stark difference. It went down hill all the way and the return up hill with sections at 1 in 30 so many twists and turns all on a metre gauge track. The locomotive was a 4-8-2 W class with the back up of an F class diesel. The latter looked like a class 20, sounded like a class 20 but had A-1-A bogies and an 1100 hp power unit. Yes it was an English Electric loco built in 1958. The train consisted of 5 South African coaches which neither loco could handle by them selves. The steam loco 3 and the diesel 4. On the return the train stopped to allow the steam loco to build up pressure. The main difference between your video and this railway was the condition of the stock the British one looked immaculate and well cared for. The Hotham looked untidy and in need of quality restoration and some one needs to teach them protective care as rust was evident every where. They have 3 problems one is finance two a lack of volunteers and 3 they are in the middle of nowhere over an hour from Perth. A really good railway to visit for the experience.
Sam I think you are very lucky living so close to these Heritage railroads. I am very envious. I would love to ride on or just being up close to take photos. Having the OO scale models then seeing the real thing must be amazing. Keep these great videos coming.
Cracking video Sam I visit when I can as only live down the road sometimes just sit on the platform at duffield In between shifts, a friend of mine help restore it and my dad remembers seeing freight waiting to join the main line back when it was running. Lovely railway and great journey back and forth. Cheers Dave
If you are ever down south , I'd recommend the Tenterden to Bodium (castle) line and also the Romney/Hythe narrow-gauge steamline nr Dimchurch - great fun and loads to see on both lines. Loved the trip on the scales. Glad you kept it in :-)
I do like steam trains and I've not got a model railway, but I love watching ur vids, maybe cause ur such a nice guy and somthing very comfortable about u. Xx
Only visited twice but yes, a lovely line that also links the local community to Duffield and main line trains to Derby & the south or Sheffield and the north.
Sam the train traveler is quite interesting, UK takes such pride in their locomotive history and i find that quite interesting. Glad Sam had fun, tho those glases make my cheeky theory of Sam being much older than some 20s little bit more intriguing.
Thanks for this very nice tour of another heritage railway, Sam! Many interesting pieces of rolling stock, but as I'm particularly a fan of small diesels, it was great to see a Class 14 for the first time. An HO version (perhaps minus the buffers) would be perfect for my layout. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Hi Sam,just enjoyed your video on the Eccllesbourne Valley Railway. Seeing the converted Land Rover reminded me of a Land Rover which had been converted to a half track by I believe Saunders Roe near Beaumaris on Anglesey.
What a cool trip! That Class 14 looks sharp in the fresh black. Might be time to pick one up in OO like the green 9F you drove a few years back. Hattons has a new run coming up later this year and... oh. They're made by Heljan. Oh dear. Well, the review video will be interesting, that's for sure! Last month, I got to do some switching (shunting) with an Alco RS-1 diesel from 1948 at the Danbury Railway Museum in Connecticut. I had a blast! It's a great rail museum to visit if you're ever in the Northeastern US.
Great idea you have here to share with us the visit of an heritage railway. It's the strong point of Britain, the active heritage railways societies all around the British isles. From France, it's something to do when you love trains, to see at least one when you are traveling in Great Britain. I put the Ecclesbourne Valley railway on my list of "to visit" railway things in the UK.
12:12 I'd know that engine anywhere... Bagnall Austerity 68012 "The Duke". She used to live at Peak Rail in the 90's! It was last painted up in BR late crest donning the number 68012 (Hunslet built sibling "Warrington", now "Royal Pioneer" donned the same livery but with 68006 to recreate the two famous Cromford High Peak locos), the loco hasn't hauled a train since the early to mid 2000's, it'll be good to have the old stalwart restored.
It’s sad to think this was once the norm, I loved travelling by train and all the excitement of a corridor coach. Anyway even without steam look’s like you had a great day thank you for sharing with us.
I cannot believe you missed saying and the "Teddy bear has got sprung buffers!" 🤣Its very unusual to see a Preserved Teddy in BR black as oppose either BR Green or the later BR Blue! The connecting corridor gives you an idea of what a steam locomotive crew have to contend with, when working between the loco and the tender. Thank you for venturing into the yard there are some great reference points in the video for this rivet counter, you could spend as much time detailing the interiors of model coaches as you could with the rest of a model railway. Plus are you going to now manufacture a traditional W.C. and sink? Excellent video and I am sure the staff at Ecclesbourne Railway will be delighted with your visit and the mention on RUclips. There are loads of 00 gauge road/rail vehicles in the Oxford Vehicle range and the shop that has the most extensive selection is Frizinghall Models & Railways. (I hope you don't mind me mentioning them, I'll delete the shop mention if you wish).
This railway is also near to my home in Derbyshire too, and I rode on it, with my Dad for my 21st Birthday in 2015, on a DMU from Wirksworth to Duffield and back and it's an amazing little railway to ride on, and it's been a long time since I rode on it, but I have been on the Bubble Car that pulled the train I was on and it's an amazing Derbyshire Branch Line that also used to work up in the old Wirksworth Quarries further up the line.
Im very surprised that small diesel can pull those 5 coaches.. a heritage line near me in canada can only pull 3 max. Both steam and diesel struggle with that these days so its gone down to 2 coaches.
One thing to keep in mind though is that most North American rolling stock is bigger and heavier than UK equipment due to North America having a larger loading gauge
I haven't seen the model railway there before. The coach was closed when I went by in November (I went to see 58022 before its cabs were removed, but it wasn't visible either...) I rode the line several years ago, but not recently.
I live next to this railway I volunteered here years ago when I was 15/16, and thst little black shunter is called “breeze” Also on the 15th and 16th of October wirksworth has a model railway exhibition around town
EVR - love that place! Coming up to a year ago I went on a driver experience day there and drove the 121 Bubble Car, the single car Derby Lightweight and the class 47 (which was a last minute replacement for a broken down class 31) The 121 was in mainline use with Chiltern just a few years ago, so its all modernised inside - driving it and the Derby Lightweight was interesting because they have manually controlled gearboxes and sensitive vacuum brakes
You should take a trip to our local steam heritage railway.....the great central that runs between Loughborough and Leicester. It's a magical place to be, me and my sons are there virtually every weekend. It's well worth a visit.
wow sam out again on his walk about...lovely loco with sprung buffers.. nice coaches with my favorite livery. with primrose sink and matching loo..pity they did not have sprung buffers.. nice video sam
I’ve driven “Eric” before. Probably about 10 years ago on one of those driving experience days. If I recall correctly, they told me that it has a 3000bhp engine but tops out at about 11mph. Although it looks to be moving a bit quicker in your video. This is one of my favourite railways. When I went, it was closed to the public and the staff literally ran it like it was a big train set! Just messed about shunting wagons in the yard and going up and down the line. Anyway, nice video!
Having gone on a passenger excursion recently, this video was a real treat Sam. Class 14’s a nifty little loco. Loving the coach interiors, will definitely take inspiration with future coaches. So engine tanks aren’t necessarily part of the boiler… interesting. A model railway within an actual railway… that’s poetry. And rebuilding an extinct diesel is cool! Glad you had a great time Sam. It sure was fun to watch! Cheers!
Thanks David - yes the class 14 was awesome, handled all those coaches with ease! Yeah, I guess the tank really does just saddle over the boiler and is completely removable. The 10000 is awesome... such a cool project! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Have you ever been to the East Lancs Railway based at Bolton St, Bury, Sam? They have a good selection of live steam and diesel locos plus and engine workshop that was responsible for the last refurbishment and rebuild of the Flying Scotsman. The staff aren't worried about cameras as they have thousands of visitors a year all armed with recording devices of some sort.
I visited them a few time lovely places hard to believe what it use to look before they restored the hole line plus they only been running for around a decade
in sweden we got rail trucks. they are converted road going trucks. if my merory serves me i had seen those trucks they were panted in bright orange. those trucks where placed on main and on secondary lines staions. nice video. 👍👍🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪✨✨✨✨
12:20 There's an Austerity tank without any tanks at the Ribble Steam Railway, it's been converted to a tender engine in the 1990s and was named Douglas 13:15 is that old London Underground train a Vivarail rebuild? I've never seen a class 14 in black before, only green or blue
Glad to see you are getting out and about. You were getting prison palor from being stuck in that loft! It would be good if you get out and about more often. There are many heritage lines you know! A good video to make would be the real train you rode on then the model version running around in your loft! Thanks for uploading.
It's nice to see Sam get out of his attic and go outside with his lady friend now and then.
Two of the most recognizable British vehicles “some kind of truck”.
Never change!😊
Haha I know even the badge has the name on it 🤣🤣
Man, those are some huge models. Must have been a nightmare on the mailman's back to deliver them.
That's a nice looking railway I must say. I work as a volunteer at a heritage railway in Belgium called Stoomtrein Maldegem - Eeklo. (And we have 2 British steam locomotives in our collection :D ) Great video Sam! Keep it up!
Sam definantly stole the austerity's saddle tank,I dont know how he did it but he seems to amaze us by this, what a great video
I find these types of videos to be quite enjoyable. as well as seeing Sam goofing off, Just seeing him taking a look at real railways is really cool.
More Miss Sam's Trains please!
The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is my local heritage railway and have been going there for years. I am now a volunteer and a member of the Steam Team. Great video showing the my favourite heritage railway and all the different attractions at Wirksworth! 👍👍
Good on you! Keep up the good work!

Seemed like a fun trip, Sam. 2:50 The visit to the railway looked fun, too! 😄
I'm a big fan of these vlog style "out in the field" videos, and your editing / camerawork keeps the video concise and enjoyable.
I went to the NYMR back in August, the views from the carriage was truly stunning
Thank you for visiting Sam and for the amazing video! It was great to see you there and hope ya visit again 😁👍
I always enjoy the videos where you’re out and about. A great change of pace

I also enjoy some of your Fred Dibnah-isms! He was a great man.
Greetings from Italy, the land of FS trains, railway engineers Caprotti, Franco and Crosti...and excellent pizza and other good grub.
Love the "Teddy bear" in black, looks beautiful! Especially with the LMS coaches. Definitely an upgrade from the DMU!
-Oliver
I live near there too!
Thanks a lot Oliver - racking up quite a few now! The severn is definitely on the list!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Best Santa train too
Great to see you and your family. Thats the most footage I've ever seen of me ! Can't wait to show granddaughter what a superstar her 'gangad' is ! Come back soon mate ! John the Guard.
What a nice video. Thanks for bringing this to us Sam.
It's a pleasure Dave, glad you liked it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

A really good railway to visit for the experience.
‘Charlie’ the little 0-4-0 diesel at about 10:50 is the sweetest little diesel I think I’ve ever seen 😂😂
Thanks Sam, for the fun and interesting video. It's so cool to see the full sized trains. It's like Sam's Trains scaled up to gigantic proportions 👍
Brilliant you met my friend Jacob he was the kid showing you the model railway but I also volunteer at steeple grange
Great visit Sam, what a cracking railway, much enjoyed mate Thank you.
Sam I think you are very lucky living so close to these Heritage railroads. I am very envious. I would love to ride on or just being up close to take photos. Having the OO scale models then seeing the real thing must be amazing. Keep these great videos coming.
Sam has the aura of a train fan, awesome video!
It is a lovely little line I have been myself 3 times and all times very enjoyable
Cracking video Sam I visit when I can as only live down the road sometimes just sit on the platform at duffield In between shifts, a friend of mine help restore it and my dad remembers seeing freight waiting to join the main line back when it was running. There were some real Fred Dibnah vibes in this video 😍 love it Sam, thanks for sharing another lovey railway!
haha thank you very much - really glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
High praise indeed. RIP Fred one of the greatest englishmen ever to walk God's green earth.
Thanks for this very nice tour of another heritage railway, Sam! I do have to say Sam I do really really enjoy these types of videos, keep it up!!

Great video Sam ....I visited there myself only a few weeks ago {and was lucky enough to ride behind 80080 too}
A visit is highly recommended.

The train lord has blessed us with heritage content (odds on Sam buying his own full size steam engine at his next subscriber goal)
hahaha! How did you know?!?
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Visited last year. They do an excellent full English breakfast on the train.
That was fun and interesting ! Love to see more like that , so much history and technology out there . Big 👍 Sam .
Im very surprised that small diesel can pull those 5 coaches.. a heritage line near me in canada can only pull 3 max. Both steam and diesel struggle with that these days so its gone down to 2 coaches.
That is unless its a special event. Then the locomotive thats running has to put up with the 3rd coach.
Yes! They're mightier than they look aren't they? Did it with ease... went at quite a pace!!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The class 14 is incredibly strong, seen it pulling 9 coaches and a banking steam loco before. (Steam loco wasn't assisting either)
One thing to keep in mind though is that most North American rolling stock is bigger and heavier than UK equipment due to North America having a larger loading gauge
Last time i visited EVR, class 20 was on duty...
"Mighty whistler" sounds really good at full power.
Just like to say that evr is probably one of the most friendly railways I have been to
That’s so cool!!! Looks like lots of fun!
A great little film, thanks Sam!
I haven't seen the model railway there before. The coach was closed when I went by in November (I went to see 58022 before its cabs were removed, but it wasn't visible either...)
I rode the line several years ago, but not recently.
Awesome Sam, looks like you had a great trip 😉😉 shall have to visit sometime. Thanks for the awesome work you do
I live next to this railway I volunteered here years ago when I was 15/16,
and thst little black shunter is called “breeze”
Also on the 15th and 16th of October wirksworth has a model railway exhibition around town
Nice tour, thanks and enjoy.
Loved this, always great to see the real stuff from UK.
Interesting visit. Thanks for sharing. Let's see progress on 10000,
Seems like a very interesting place with friendly people, if I ever go to the UK that will definitely be the first place I visit.
That looks like an enjoyable day out. Thanks for sharing with us!
EVR - love that place! Coming up to a year ago I went on a driver experience day there and drove the 121 Bubble Car, the single car Derby Lightweight and the class 47 (which was a last minute replacement for a broken down class 31)
The 121 was in mainline use with Chiltern just a few years ago, so its all modernised inside - driving it and the Derby Lightweight was interesting because they have manually controlled gearboxes and sensitive vacuum brakes
Great video of a real railway. Really enjoyed it. Looks like a great day out
A few of our railway club people volunteer there. I worked around there as a student nurse.
You should take a trip to our local steam heritage railway.....the great central that runs between Loughborough and Leicester. It's a magical place to be, me and my sons are there virtually every weekend. It's well worth a visit.
You should go to the Midland Butterly Railway on the 15th of October, Thomas and TUGS will be there.
Amazing Video as usual, there's a class 14 on the NVR in BR Blue, they've also got a class 40(5?) and a Merchant Navy Class that I've seen
Wonderful ❤️, I've never been able to get there. More please.
I love these trains Sam! Brian was very cool;
wow sam out again on his walk about...lovely loco with sprung buffers.. nice coaches with my favorite livery. with primrose sink and matching loo..pity they did not have sprung buffers.. nice video sam
haha yes... sprung buffers too, such a treat!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Something different. Very nice & fun documentary... but you forgot the 'ratings' Sam !! Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Filip
I’ve driven “Eric” before. Probably about 10 years ago on one of those driving experience days. If I recall correctly, they told me that it has a 3000bhp engine but tops out at about 11mph. Really nice line that class 14 is a rate beast of a loco 😀😀😀😀😀
My local railroad museum has a N Scale layout inside a boxcar, and said boxcar used to be a swimsuit shop before the museum got it
Thats a nice little railway. The class 14 and the LMS couches were nice to ride on.
Thanks Sean, it really is! And it was a great smooth ride behind the 14
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
My first trip behind a Teddy Bear surprised me too. I expected it to move like a shunter, but they can really shift.
This is really nice to see you out and about visiting real railways, please can we have some more
Thanks so much Mike - I thoroughly enjoyed this too... will do more!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Definitely need to check the railway out. I’ve not heard of it before.
Excellent so much fun to watch.
Sam you really need a detailed model railway. Like with your stock it could be anything
Great change Sam! On location!
Thank you! :D
hey Sam I recently went to pecorama it's was great fun I recommend a visit
Have you ever been to the East Lancs Railway based at Bolton St, Bury, Sam? They have a good selection of live steam and diesel locos plus and engine workshop that was responsible for the last refurbishment and rebuild of the Flying Scotsman. Always cool to see real locos....
I visited them a few time lovely places hard to believe what it use to look before they restored the hole line plus they only been running for around a decade
Yes it's amazing what they do... well worth supporting isn't it? Great place! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Great video Sam, thanks. Would love to see you do more of this kind of video.
Thanks Stefan - I'll certainly look to do more!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Very interesting video today Sam
That trip was hilarious 😂
in sweden we got rail trucks.
they are converted road going trucks.
if my merory serves me i had seen those trucks they were panted in bright orange.
those trucks where placed on main and on secondary lines staions.
nice video.
👍👍🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪✨✨✨✨
12:20 There's an Austerity tank without any tanks at the Ribble Steam Railway, it's been converted to a tender engine in the 1990s and was named Douglas
13:15 is that old London Underground train a Vivarail rebuild?
I've never seen a class 14 in black before, only green or blue
Great stuff sam. Nice day out 😀
Glad to see you are getting out and about. You were getting prison palor from being stuck in that loft! It would be good if you get out and about more often. There are many heritage lines you know! A good video to make would be the real train you rode on then the model version running around in your loft! Thanks for uploading.
haha thank you Allen - that's very true! I will definitely get to some more of these lines :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
A lovely video. What a lovely Railway.
Thanks Piers - it certainly is! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hey Sam, You should really go and visit the North Yorkshire Moors Railway!
Sam I beg you do more I love these types of videos
haha thank you - I will do! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
