    I'm a motorcyclist and a massive advocate for getting more people especially young people onto motorcycles in order to cut traffic. This would be a great way to get people into that as a young teenager. The only thing I fear with this is that no insurance etc with no license or training accidents and law suits could cause problems.

    Reminds me of my first moped, in 1976; a Honda SS50. It counted as a moped because there was a convoluted linkage that allowed you pedal it at walking pace. I remember taking the pedals off (which turned it into a motorcycle) and passing my driving test on it after reaching 17.

    Pleasant review, generally informative and not too much "street" in the presentation. But the reviewer is a bit tall for the bike as he looks a bit of a turnip with his knees going all sideways enough to knock someone over. Nice idea for a bike, but needs to sort out the pedal/seat ratio. Good price. Hope it gets a good chunk of the market. Wouldnt like to drag it up to a flat though.

    Interesting. I had a legal, roadworthy, insured 49cc moped at the age of 14. Mine was a Raleigh Wisp and looked a bit like this one. Why was I legally allowed to ride on the road at 14, well that was the way it was in Guernsey back in the 1960’s. Anyway I think this little bike is a great idea. As for a licence or having insurance, well I think you should have third party insurance and loss insurance. Maybe sorting a licence would be too complex but some sort of cycle proficiency should be offered.

    • @ric4397
      @ric4397 Год назад +1

      Don't need gears, and you're not really pedalling it. The pedal is linked to the back wheel basically only for legal reasons. Once you start pedalling, the motor does all the work for you, so the pedal is more of a throttle than to move the bike. When you're going top speed, the wheel is going faster than what it's geared for, so it's basically freewheeling, like pedalling in 1st gear when going down a hill. The pedal is just there to tell the motor to work. Also there's also a lot less leverage in the pedals as they're quite short, so your legs also don't do much movement, so the low riding position really isn't a problem.

    • @nickwinn7812
      @nickwinn7812 Год назад

      More power would mean it is a moped and would require a driving licence insurance etc etc. This thing is just exploiting a loop-hole in the law by pretending to be a pedal assisted e-bike.

    • @flitsies
      @flitsies Год назад +1

      @@nickwinn7812 It's not actually exploiting anything, it actually is an Ebike that looks like a moped.
      That doesn't mean more power isn't needed, it just means the laws governing Ebikes and potentially Escooters are out dated and do not meet the needs of the people, that is why they are flouted by just about every single Ebike manufacturer.
      No ebike would sell if their bikes only went 15.5 mph, so most have geared systems that allow the rider to go faster.
      However this system is unfair on people who are not physically able and thus suffer being stuck when they ride an ebike or potentially escooter.
      The law should be 20 mph for ebikes and escooters before they need to be registered, over 20 mph and it then becomes a super ebike which means it should be registered but no demand for insurance, over 29 mph you should have to get insurance.
      There needs to be an increase in power for the larger rider as trying to get up a hill on a 250 watts bike is difficult with a larger rider.

    These E Scoots , need faster charger and be capable of charging from an E car public charging point , then it would be a lot more useful .

    It kinda plays with your head because it looks like a petrol scooter, and you just feel you're going to keep getting stopped by the police who will think it is one (I guess if you weren't wearing a helmet, you would be stopped on every block by the police). The saddle looks like it needs to be higher because there seems to be a chance of rubbing your ears with the inside of your knees. Still, I like it and the price is crazy-cheap. These things are definitely the future.

    ⚡ *I've only seen delivery riders use these so we really need someone to market these towards everyone as a viable alternative to other vehicles,* as you can go places they can't ⚡
    Maybe they should make different model slightly different aesthetic but same specs, to appeal to a more mass market.

    I think there is a lot of confusion with what ebikes actually are, in that they are meant to be pedal assisted bicycles and nothing more. Even from the comment section there's so many people complaining about how they need more power and higher speeds, more so than even professional cyclists can muster when racing 😂
    To get more power, just go and get a CBT or motorcycle licence, buy an electric scooter or motorcycle and insure it. I'd also be happy to see much more powerful ebikes if they were treated similarly to motorcycles in terms of the rider competency and insurance requirements (I'd buy one myself). I do agree though that 20mph is a more useful speed limit than 15mph.
    Personally I ride a 250w e-bike almost everyday and it's plenty of power. I also have a 1000cc motorcycle, they are totally different propositions and I wouldn't want to see the totally different worlds of bicycles and motorcycles colliding much more than they already have.

    It may be legal in France for those aged 14 and over, but not in the UK.
    Must be below 36volt and limited to 16.4 mph.
    Police will confiscate and crush it if you are caught going faster - and the fines may be higher than the cost of the scooter.
    Injure someone while riding it and you’ll be going to prison.

    I'd happily sell my current e-bike with it's uncomfortable seat for one of these! I would like to see a proper range test on it, preferably in a rural setting rather than a city commute. Any chance?

      I mean the best thing to do is fit a decent saddle and suspension seat post. Save your money and you get to ride not only with electric but also decent gears too.

    It's a pity it's only 250 Watts.
    It'd be better if it had a 2000 watt motor that's factory limited to 15 mph, so it can climb hills.

    so, no direkt paddling as far as I understand. only thing driving you is the 250W motor up to 25kmph. It's ok for a flat city with slow traffic, but you can't go faster than 25kmph regardless how fast you paddle and if there is a hill you can't help it to go over, so you probably won't go over a 7-8% slope.
    it looks cool and is probably ideal for tourists in a city, but I don't see the appeal for anyone who really wants something to get from A to B fast.
    Also be prepared to get into a lot of police controls, since it just looks like a scooter without registration. you'd probably get around on an 750W e-bike with throttle with less hassle.
