From a motorcyclists perspective there are plenty of scooters that can already do what this does. Where this wins out, however, is the separation of battery space and storage space. Most people don't but they never experienced a motorcycle. The experience of freedom and speed can't be matched by any car. But some hate them for obvious reasons. They are risky, wet, cold and expensive if you want the full package.
@@hermanstokbrood I only like bikes for summer it's just to risky in winter. The clothing is expensive if you ride all seasons but the good stuff does last.
Not really, because a very cheap petrol scooter(lexmoto for example)would cost a fraction of this bike but for individuals that are moving around 30 miles up 30 miles down, such as myself, makes the perfect bike 🏍, however if a delivery company wants to treat their riders then YES it is awesome! For the record ☝.....I have tested this bike already and I can tell you that it is just something out of the conventional and it smokes anyone from traffic lights, plus at 62 mph it overruns almost any 125 scooter or 125 motorbike and then the app it is very handy for making sure that you don't run out of electricity, so all in all it is a very good buy. Personally for me the 3 things that calls me to buy it are:first and most important is the SILENCE 🔕 then the acceleration+top speed and then the cost of running it.This bike means 0 oil, belts, chains, sparkplugs, petrol ☝ so you do your math!😉
Loads of delivery companies are using electric motor scooters now. This company makes make a 2 and 3 wheeled cargo version, popular in their home country of spain but not seen any around here yet, only niu, yadea and super soco.
Above my price range...as us food couriers have to pay for our own bikes. But along with a second battery it would be perfect. So close to perfect...Hopefully prices will drop as economies of scale kick in or I find a used one a year later.
For clarity, a moped can be ridden at 16 (unlike this bike) and is 50cc or less, and cannot go faster than 28/30 mph. This bike is a motorcycle, and you need to be 17 years old, and have completed your CBT - to then ride it on L plates. I hope this helps ! This bike look really good. Thanks for a great video.
I'd like to laugh at your claim that a petrol scooter can only do 85 miles but despite my old 125 getting around 200 miles per tank, I could not ride it 200 miles without stopping... Oh no, my arse would have been numb by 20 miles and my wrists would have shattered with vibration. Still, a bike ride to work does mean you arrive with a smile on your face, 85 mile range is more than enough for a little bike.
Wow! I really like the look of this, my commute is around 22 miles return, so a single charge could last me nearly all week! And I love the fact you can remove the battery.
My commute is similar and I’ve used a 250cc motorcycle for the past 3 years. It’s 3 gallon tank typically lasts me 1.5-2 weeks. So not a major expense. I could see the silence working if it went a little faster.. My drive involves a couple miles of highway which uses has me doing 65-70. Maintenance requirements are minimal, with the major expenses over the past 20k miles being a couple tires.. and I guess 1.5 qts of oil every 1000 miles, although I change it a little more often than I really need to.
I'm not into bikes but this is pretty cool, removeable battery is a cool feature particularly if you don't have off street parking. I assume that you can charge the battery both when it is out of the bike & in the bike.
@@tonyhaynes9080 don't think the battery can be accessed without the key so just take key with you. But doubt a theif wants to take a 25kg weight battery with them.
For me one of the biggest plus points of a scooter like this is not having that embarrassing screaming exhaust you get on most petrol scooters, that sounds like a banshee just shut its fingers in a door even when you're only doing 10mph
Years ago I rode a Vellocette 200 , a M/Cycle well known for its quietness. I have never understood the need for the smallest motor vehicle on the road to make the most noise, hence my interest in this EV. (and my ownership of a LEAF)
@@gottliebdee263 What I don't understand is why so many fools pay for aftermarket exhaust systems that 1. Fail to comply with anti noise regs, and 2. all too often detract from the real power output of the two stroke engine. and 3. probably negate the warranty on the bike. As we know the exhaust on a two stroke engine is part of the power production , proper engine scavenging via the exhaust is part of that. With regard to price, manufacturers will produce the cheapest tat that they can get away with, that's why there are so many regulations in force to control them.
This is amazing! Such a fantastic idea... and not only everything about the bike makes perfect sense, the battery is genius! You can use the battery to power other devices... I mean more than 5kwh will give you enough juice to pass an entire night with lights and TV and other devices on, just powered by the battery. During the day you can charge it up with solar panels and you can be mostly off-grid... this is game changing and the price is very, very competitive. I wish they would sell it in Australia, I'd get one right away.
@200w per square meter the current output of top spec solar panels, You will need a large solar array to charge it up, in say 8 hours! And as solar panels need the sun, that means it will be charging when you want to use it to go to work etc? So now you need to buy another set of batteries to charge during the day to use to charge the bike and in inverter? But long term the prices of the batteries will probably come down?
These were one of the coolest things I saw at Fully Charger Live this year. The removable battery opens it up to so many more people and scenarios. Basically makes them un-stealable as well, which is a bonus!
A battery replacement is around £1000? So they chuck the bike in a van and get a new battery, the bike is worth £4000 so it will still be stolen like millions of motorcycles, I've had 4 stolen in my 42 years of riding! £5000 for a petrol scooter? Not the same style that this one... for example, if we go for a Honda SH125i (there are brands that are much cheaper!) that has similar performance it costs £3549, so quite a discount over £5000... Yes, the electric one is cooler but let's get the facts right 😅

The Silence S01 'Connected' currently retails in the UK for £5695. It's quoted as equivalent to a 125cc motorbike, however it's around £3000 more than the brand new SYM Jet 14 125cc scooter I recently purchased for my son costing just £2995. The battery pack will also suffer 'range degradation' with each full recharge cycle and will last typically around 200 charges before it's overall performance is adversely affected.
They did tests on a sample of Just Eat and Spanish Post Office Silence batteries that had done 400 charge cycles, and the average degradation was just 3%, with a narrow range around the average. They achieve this high battery life from the low charge rate (downside - takes ages), and the built in heater, which means you charge at the ideal temperature.
Rory's cheap 24kWh Leaf cost around the same and with a cheap overnight electricity tariff is around 1.5p/mile to drive. Having said that it's a nice little machine and the battery design is ace!
But it has 4 wheels and thus for me is boring to drive, cars are crap, The moped will be fun especially with the instant electric torque! and you can use the battery as an off-grid powerbank etc whilst not on the bike. Very cool.
Like the idea of electric scooters but the only thing that worries me is because it’s silent no one can hear you. Many car drivers in England are very don’t care about bikes.
As soon as people stop laughing at EV cars/bikes etc, the faster we can get on with mass production, more competition and therefore, yep, you guessed it... Cheaper prices.
@@TheJessefuji so far there is no evidence that EV prices are going to be lower than ICE equivalents. It is quite the opposite in fact, prices are going up as more mainstream branded models turn up and I highly doubt that will change.
This is great. Less hasstle to own, dont have to worry about oil changes etc, servicing in general will be simpler. Cheaper to run per mile. Quieter, surely no one likes the 2 stroke drone of a 50cc/125cc scooter. You can be cheeky and plug it in at work and charge it there not at home =D
My electric car does 115 miles on £1.18 in summer as long as I drive sensibly, 86 miles in winter. Or for free if I charge at a local supermarket car park and have a wander around town. Learning to drive an electric cars regeneration rather than braking is the key, time your junctions and glide downhills to get the best from your vehicle.
I think they've been very conservative here. I also thought that 1p/mile is nothing spectacular, my calculations for EV cars are lower than that, but that's based on a car that gets 200W/mile. This bike gets 66w/mile so it seems like they're assuming 15p/Kwh

I love my Chinese electric scooter here in the us in northern california, don't need a license and it is proper efficiency. Got it for a steal at 400 bucks and put a 300 dollar battery in it after 3 years as well as having to replace a brake line, thats it lol. Direct drive motors in these things (the big block in the rim ones) are amazing, they are completely sealed, have no gearing, and only need to have the bearings replaced every 5k or so. Works in sub freezing conditions with no chokes or carbs or mixes to worry about, get in and go.
Great video and fun to watch. Who ever thought about the battery pack was a genius. Also you might want to rethink the voice quality when wearing the helmet.
Decent value, I was waiting for the usual EV price tag that makes you wince. Ideal as a city commuter, or just nipping around if you don't have passengers to worry about.
My friend recently recommended me to get an electric scooter with a detachable battery after selling my car, I personally don't see myself riding a scooter but this one is very appealing looking. Has storage, range, I can charge the battery at home or work which is huge to me, definitely considering it now.
I thought they should have made the right break the strong one and the left the regen. Every other bike has the right handle break for the front wheel where you get 70% of your breaking and the right foot pedal for the back break. So if you are use to a typical bike in a panic emergency situation, you will using regen instead of full breaking. Motorcyclists generally don't go for the clutch handle for full emergency breaking.
I have this scooter so let me explain. The right handle brakes the front, plus activates regen on the back wheel. The left handle primarily brakes the back wheel, plus a little bit weaker the front wheel. When I approach a red light, I only brake with the right handle for soft braking, plus I get lots of energy back with regen. If I drive faster, I brake with BOTH handles at the same time. This is what I was told at driving school, and what is the safest.
A ‘moped’ is a 50cc automatic (can be ridden by 16 year olds in UK). Everything bigger than 50cc and automatic is a ‘scooter’ (minimum rider age of 17 in UK). Great review !
here in south east asia, the annoying sound is actually a benefit. other vehicles on the road becomes aware of your presence. here having a silent 2-wheel vehicle that travels as fast as a motorized vehicle is not pretty safe.
I agree Give it a " street fighter" style A 60's mod design and a Moto cross design along with the grocery better look Rory rode, and you will appeal to 1000's of college aged kids.
i really like the design of the battery, its too easy to carry it on wheel ,, although similar range & speed E scooter is available in our INDIA for 1lakh, (near 1000 pound ) 😁
Let me introduce you to EUC - electric unicycle, the top of the line models goes for 3k. With a range of 200 km and speeds of 80-90 km/ph. It's the same concept charge the battery and off you go. it's more fun and more maneuverable. And you don't need any license or insurance for it. But sadly it's illegal in many European countries, but people still ride in the bigger cities.
I've had a Honda Sh300i for many years - 280cc - so I'd probably find this a bit slow. The small wheels would put me off too. No mention of ABS either - might sound like overkill for a bike but it's saved my bacon on a few occasions and should be mandatory. Disappointing that the mainstream bike manufacturers have been so slow to go electric.
Well the SH300 is just brilliant. Compact size, large wheels and plenty power (20kW) for relaxed cruise at 100kmh highway speed and do quick overtakes on top. I agree, I don't think this can replace a SH300 but I think it's marketed as a 125cc. Too bad the market for a bit larger electric scooter is so limited. There's the BMW CE04, but that bike is way more expensive. ABS is a must in my book, regardless of bike size, weight, speed or price.
Removing the battery is a great security feature. I get really fed up of adverts for electric cycles saying it goes 40 miles on a charge when in reality it's 10 miles. The size of that battery makes me think 100 miles is possible.
You'll get 40 - 45 miles flat out in sport mode. 55 - 60 miles in city mode. You might squeeze 60-70 miles out of it if you don't leave Eco mode, but that restricts you to a top speed of 43 mph. For mixed modes - driving from the outskirts into a city centre and back, you could get around 50 miles, more if you can put it on charge while you are at work.
Brilliant review. £5k is a very decent price. It would be great if the vehicle had a colour display with smart features like Ola S1 in India. Also for those of less confident on two wheels, a 3-wheel model, at a premium, would be welcome.
It's good for what it is, but many of your comparisons to a regular moped or a motorcycle are absolutely not correct. First of all it does cost alot more. Something similar like a Honda Grom or Benelli Tnt125. They cost around 3500 for the Honda and 2400 for the benelli, both of them are doing range of around 250-300km, top speed around 110-115kmh, same weigh and even smaller size. Plus the range you are rating this is probably just what the manufacturer told you, for electric vehicles like that the real actual range is always half of the stated.
The BEEB did a vid on electric scooters in Jakarta Indonesia. You bought the scooter and hired the batteries. Around town there where recharging stations. Go In pay and change your depleted batteries for fresh recharged ones. John
I've ridden bikes from 125cc to 1000cc for a number of years. I no longer ride but i think this is absolutely brilliant. I hope this type of tech picks up. I feel EV tech is much more suited and practical in a 2 wheeler than a car. Other than the initial cost, i didnt think of a drawback here compared to a traditional moped/scooter.
For places like Thailand and the Philippines, they make a huge sense as their Electric is far cheaper than their Petrol is and a lot of people ride Scooters in Asia. Even the Netherlands would be good for an EV cycle as many ride over there, at least we did when I lived there over 60 years ago :). The one advantage you didn't mention with an EV Scooter is that if you are waiting at the lights, you use no power idling, so in peak traffic where you do a lot of stop start the fuel economy of an EV shine even more.
I'm sure I have seen these in Asia (Taiwan or Korea maybe) and they have banks of batteries that you just swap out on a wall of batteries. Very good idea this for the right envoiroment
For less than £5,000 I’ve bought SIX classic Japanese sports bikes. Most in need of some attention and a few require full restoration. Never had or wanted a bike, but I can see the appeal of this for just nipping to the shops or an office or something. Excellent. I might just treat myself!
Most people don't but they never experienced a motorcycle. The experience of freedom and speed can't be matched by any car. But some hate them for obvious reasons. They are risky, wet, cold and expensive if you want the full package.
Go for it!!
@@hermanstokbrood I only like bikes for summer it's just to risky in winter. The clothing is expensive if you ride all seasons but the good stuff does last.
Best name for the moped, Scooty McScootface, love it
Definitely one for city delivery companies 🔥🔥
juicy4sure...
For fast food delivery need way bigger battery 7kWh + or two of these batteries to last one shift !
Even nature approves of this litte thing! The birds giving their approval at 08:07
I'd like to laugh at your claim that a petrol scooter can only do 85 miles but despite my old 125 getting around 200 miles per tank, I could not ride it 200 miles without stopping... Oh no, my arse would have been numb by 20 miles and my wrists would have shattered with vibration. Still, a bike ride to work does mean you arrive with a smile on your face, 85 mile range is more than enough for a little bike.
My old yamaha virago 250cc still get 100mpg around the city
Agreed -- I'd like to know that too! I wouldn't want to take the battery out if I didn't have to.
According to the makers website you can charge in the bike, from a normal household socket.

For me one of the biggest plus points of a scooter like this is not having that embarrassing screaming exhaust you get on most petrol scooters, that sounds like a banshee just shut its fingers in a door even when you're only doing 10mph
2 stroke engines really are annoying af
Years ago I rode a Vellocette 200 , a M/Cycle well known for its quietness. I have never understood the need for the smallest motor vehicle on the road to make the most noise, hence my interest in this EV. (and my ownership of a LEAF)
@@solentbum Then you have never understood the need to make things cheaply.
There have been plenty of quiet 4 stroke scooters for many years now.
Maybe then you will have to choose between going out and watching TV.
It seems very versatile. A nice feature to have
@@anirudhhhh haha, yes, but still you could take it with you when camping as portable camping power bank...
Imagine these as hire bikes in central city and airports. Like park n ride type?
These were one of the coolest things I saw at Fully Charger Live this year.
The removable battery opens it up to so many more people and scenarios.
Basically makes them un-stealable as well, which is a bonus!
A battery replacement is around £1000? So they chuck the bike in a van and get a new battery, the bike is worth £4000 so it will still be stolen like millions of motorcycles, I've had 4 stolen in my 42 years of riding! I'm not being argumentative, just exploring the practicalities of it all. To be honest for a run around into town/work etc, this bike seems like a great option and motorcycle security is high on my mind when riding in towns etc!

It has already taken off here in Spain where it comes from. You can see a lot of them in Barcelona, which is the city that it was designed for

£5000 for a petrol scooter? Not the same style that this one... for example, if we go for a Honda SH125i (there are brands that are much cheaper!) that has similar performance it costs £3549, so quite a discount over £5000... Yes, the electric one is cooler but let's get the facts right 😅
Piaggio One cost 3000€, so there are other brands for electric scooters which charge far less. And there are still a lot of Chinese Bikes to chose
@@manup1931 where do you get the chinese ones from?

A few things come to mind,
1, £5k for a 125 elec equiv to pet?
2, Life expectancy of the battery and cost of replacement?
3, You still need either a 2y CBT or motorcycle license to use.
Ideally for me I want something that equates to 50 cc, that is less than half the price and you can just use your car license to operate, otherwise it looks like a cool addition to someone that has a decent car😁.

Like the idea of electric scooters but the only thing that worries me is because it’s silent no one can hear you. Many car drivers in England are very don’t care about bikes.
Cool but way too expensive! If it costs half of that, it'd be a tremendous proposal however for this kinda money there's a lot of competition.

Nothing better for small errands or commuting then a scooter. I drive mine more frequently then any other motorcycle or car I’ve owned

Wow that's really impressive. I am not into full blown motorcycles but that is very inviting.

Today’s prices of new bikes and scooters (let’s not get confusing the two here) are ridiculous. I bought a very nice low mileage used petrol scooter for £650. I bought a 125 in need of repair for £450.
Genius that battery pack! Not bad for around a city or town!.
Compare this one to the SEAT MÓ eScooter125... Oh wait, you don't need to, its the same scooter!
I'm not to sure why they sell the same vehicle under different brand names but if it helps with economies of snake and makes the price profitable then I'm all for it. Just a question, under which brand do you get the best service... Seat don't know a thing about motorcycles and scooters so I'm not sure about that...

Here in Canada it's $10,000 which is the price of a car.
It looks excellent, but part of the safety of motorbikes and scooters is the noise in letting others know you are coming.
I seroiusly cannot hear any motobikes, nor any scooter from inside my car.... not until the very moment that they have passed me. And at that point it is too late. Visibility is important though, - whereas noise is just noise-pollutions that irritates the people living/walked the roads where you drive.
I think the fact it doesn't have the high pitched scooter noise will make it more attractive.
Love how they must have come within an Ångström of Kawasaki Green. It may be funky, cool and all that, but I'm 70 and downsizing to one car, this would fit the bill exactly. Keeping the wife off it would be the toughest thing!
Cool idea and would be great around town, but normal 125cc scooters are not way more expensive to run:
Suzuki Access 125: 1.58 liters / 100 km
Yamaha Ray ZR 125 BS VI: 1.72 liters / 100 km
Yamaha Fascino 125 BS VI: 1.72 liters / 100 km
Honda Activa 125 BS VI: 1.84 liters / 100 km
