If you play trombone Jay Jay must be your hero-he had it all and I regret not seeing him on a gig.

Renee's comping (and playing in general) is spectacular.

As a trombone player, JJ was my first and greatest influence.
    Renee is brilliant also

Girl can play! Solo is amazing. And she's got comping down too. The way piano should be played in a group like this.

We are living in times when there are many disturbed and unhappy people. As long they are limited to expressing their inner turbulences - we have to live with them. We just have to be aware when they get into a position from where they can destroy. Autumn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes") has something which offers these great musicians some means of expressing themselves. Sung by Yves Montand or played by Chet Baker and Paul Desmond I perticularly love. At 7.50 is the moment when all just blows!!

... sein durchdachtes Posaunenspiel war seit jeher
und ist auch zukünftig eine kreative Messlatte
für fortgeschrittene Jazzposaunisten in der Spieltechnik ...
... his elaborate trombone playing has always been
and will continue to be a creative benchmark in the future
for advanced jazz trombonists in playing technique.

Taste buds can be different. I worship J J Johnson because I play trombone and like the sound and his artistry, but when it comes to distortion guitar I refuse even to listen, would you like coffee with sand in it?

  • @clemensgigacher4015

I disliked it because on this record they just cut away the bass and (probably) drum solo and thats not fair. They are all musicans with the same value and everybody should have the chance to tell their own interpretation of the story.
