I was the singer on this Japan/Korea tour, but not on this song/instrumental set. That's Paul Keller on bass and Eddie Metz Jr. on drums. Not only is this the most swinging, accessible and friendly style of live jazz you could possibly encounter, those guys were the friendliest, warmest, most light-hearted people I ever toured with. The jokes just kept going and going and going and going. I miss Eddie Higgins. I'm so grateful to him.

Great pianist!!! I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to study with Eddie in 1983 for two weeks under a U.S. NEA jazz study grant. He graciously invited me to stay at his home for the two weeks. Our lessons consisted of him playing for me and me asking him questions, such as -- could could you please show me that again in slow motion, which he was always happy to do. I think I was the only student he ever had -- I certainly was at that time. Thank you, Eddie!
This brings back memories of the first NCL Jazz cruise when Eddie Higgins joined me at my table to listen to Ray Browns trio. He told me about his time at the London House in Chicago and all the Jazz legends he got to work with. More people should know about him.

Nobody before or since has played better. Notice how he throws Bach into the middle of these improvisations. He was also one of the finest people I've ever known, consistently encouraging to other musicians and a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
Kathy, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I knew Eddie Higgins when he was the house band for the former London House in Chicago for years. I sat and listened to him as well as the headliners that played there. It was a glorious memorable time. At that time his bassist was also a producer for Chess Records, Richard Evans, his drummer was renowned Marshall Thompson. I never knew anyone more at ease in playing his instrument than Eddie. I have so many stories from that time that will stay with me forever. Occasionally someone mentions them and we talk for hours about the time of the London House from 1963 thru 1970. A fabulous time.

I used to see Eddie play practically every week back in the 80's. He was the house pianist for a wonderful little jazz club in Fort Lauderdale called Bubba's.
