I wish the world had more Daniel Macklers. I had never heard of the expression "Hell in the Hallway" before listening to this analysis.

Thanks Daniel, I really enjoy your channel. It's embarrassing for me to reveal this, but right now I am 49 years old and for the past 5 months I've had to live in my parents basement. I had my own apartment for a long time and I had a section 8 voucher to get it but 2 years ago I got into an argument with the landlord about the rent amount and lost the apartment, eventually lost the voucher too because I couldn't find another place to move to right away. Got into a bad car accident after that and lost my car. A few months ago I totally split up with my long time boyfriend of over 20 years too. When it rains it pours!!! I just got on a waiting list for a semi independent living program where I would share an apartment with a roomate, but I know it's going to be months before any of that happens. I don't like being with my family, my dad is very narcisstic and he really doesn't want me here at all. But you know, I am learning to have a thick skin. I am learning to avoid getting involved in the chaos around here and to just stay in my room and not to engage in any arguments with my parents. It's a bad situation, I just have to ride it out until I can get away from here, I have no other options at this point. Sometimes I feel like I'm almost chained to my bed here, I can't get another car. I have to have faith that eventually things will get better and I can get the hell out of here, I don't have much control over anything now, these days with this coronavirus crisis not a lot of people do. But I'm not going to give up or be contemplating suicide. Folks, this too shall pass!!! Things won't always be so dark. Thank you Daniel, watching your videos is really helping get through this hellish time. You may not be a therapist anymore but you are definitely helping me!!!

@ Thank you so much. That is what I'm trying to figure out. I'm surviving on disability because I've been diagnosed as having bipolar depression and it's been hard for me to try to work at a regular job for longer than 1 to 2 years. But there is so much more to me than that diagnosis!!!! I have to take one step at a time and try to rebuild my life into something better than what it was. It was very hard for me to break off the relationship with my boyfriend, but it was too dysfunctional and he has some more serious problems than I do. If I can get out of my parents house I will have a chance to breathe again. And no, I don't have any children which is a good thing right now.

Hello Daniel! I am too in my own hell in the hallway right now. 30 yrs old, graduated with a 5 yr degree in Forestry, but it didnt go that well at finding a job. I've been waiting tables for a long time, and im lost, confused and emotionally excausted. I understand now how traumatised I am, and how limited I grew up. At least i got my girlfriend on my side, and a couple of friends who understand me. But there are days that I live in misery and confusion and anxiety. I've been watching your videos for a few years now and im doing a lot of self therapy, journaling. Im also keeping some distance from my family of origin. Your videos and psychotherapy have saved my life. Wish you the best!

I hope I can heal in a good amount of time considering I’ve dedicated almost a decade of my life to this and kinda started over from a blank slate with no friends or family. I really hope this doesn’t take 40 years until I can start living. I don’t think I could take that.

I think every high school in the world should play this to their adolescents. I grew up like one of those wolf or baboon human babies that somehow get separated by their parents in the wilderness and are raised in a wolf pack or baboon troop. My parents were dysfunctional and gave me hardly any advice about going into the world. I never fit in anywhere, didn't know myself, was always feeling I had to 'jump through hoops' to get people to like me and respect me and getting crushed by rejection. I let other people define me/approve of me/determine my value. But like you, I've more or less found the way onto my path, even though my steps are uncertain at times and I am still largely walking alone. Thank you. Wish you could be my friend or I could have a friend like you in my life.

Wow, I’m only 52 seconds in and you’ve pretty much described my situation to a T- it’s kind of eerie how this video has popped up for me right at this time in my own life.

Thanks Daniel ! I've been in the hell in the hallway for the past 1.5 years now and it's only getting deeper. Going through a divorce, losing my house, unemployed, realized I don't have any friends. And on and on it goes. Not sure it is possible to get out of the hallway.

“Hell in the Hallway” reminds me of the phrase “Being in the In Between’s” And how it’s not without purpose. Just nice to be more conscious that you’re in it when you’re going thru it. Makes it more bearable, manageable, and serene. Cause sometimes - it just sucks. Lol

Omg lately all your videos are exactly where I'm at, I just got evicted and we are on shut downs, my abusive father wanted me dependent on him for life, my mother was complicit, I was assigned to an agency at a young age (facetious disorder,) and had to flee to them. They're abusive, and treat me like crap.
I turned 28 last month (I feel so old!) and I lack a lot of adult life skills because of it. But I finally want to leave and go for it; go back to school, (I actually want to be a therapist that's what I was studying but the abuse was so bad I had to drop out of school,) so I'm getting a late start in life, I'm super behind. I guess I'd be "transitioning" cause I'm finally going to move forward, and it's scary. Massive hell in the hallway. Large disparity between where I am and where I want to be.

You are at the exact age where you know yourself enough to know what you want and what you don’t. Write down a list of all the good things about yourself. There will be many. You’re good hearted because you have allowed us in. That is number one on your list. Stay safe and strong. Be well. 💞🙋🏻‍♀️

Thank you for this video. It is helpful to reflect on the progress one has made over the years and see that even though life seems difficult there has been progress. This realization is in itself a reward for past efforts. This realization gives hope and strength for present efforts.

Damn.... Life in the Corona virus lock down sure is one hell in the hallway...
Im experiencing a very similar situation right now.... I have one more year of college left and i too am lonely.. And the lockdown doesn't help with that at all....
I recently joined a local community group though. It's supposed to be a fun cultural center and contemporary evangelical church for young people.... I hope i will make it out of this hallway of hell

If you could get out of your State and go to a State which is a lot less COVID-restricted, then, by all means, do that, even if it requires transferring or finishing college at some point in the future. Living under these restrictions is impossible for anyone. Just don't get into any kind of addiction or let depression take over. It's WAY better to be in this situation when young than in your 40's. You still have time, just don't waste it in INACTION or addiction - EVER!

    Those who.conceal turbulent dark waters
Have a rest, but for only a short while
Listen therefore, within that quiet space
For wisdom resides within the calm waters
Listen therefore to wisdoms small voice
For wisdom gives insight and understanding
Therefore take head of what that small voice says
Before the waves come crashing back in
And washes the sound of wisdom away

i would love for you to talk a little bit more about psychosis. people start believing that they are possessed by a demon or they are god, how is this treated without medication? you talked about how it is good for you to let people in a psychotic episode go through it, however, might that not lead to a further dissociation from reality? how can it be directed in a positive way, to help them cope? love your videos

Hi Emilija! I actually have three documentaries on recovery from psychosis/schizophrenia without medications. The first link is in English, but they’re also subtitled in a bunch of different languages. It was actually this subject that started me on the path of making videos.
