@@rhy45bianchi31not really a good comment since he said the martial law, (which he had the power to invoke, and the parliament had the power to revoke, which he then lifted) is legal and constitutional. he claimed the reason was to protect from north korean sympathetic forces. it is not impossible that north korea had a long con gameplan to get their people into office and take over south korea. if that is the case his martial law order is probably necessary. It may even be necessary to continue a special operation to capture. north korean spies within south korean government. if north korea were to take over the south its dangerous fpr the entire world.

As a Korean, sharing some context
President Yoon, a former prosecutor general,
leveraged his control over the prosecution in an
attempt to politically eliminate the opposition
party leader, who commands a two-thirds
majority in Congress. However, his efforts
failed, leaving him increasingly isolated, In a
last-ditch attempt to retain power, he
    resorted to declaring martial law,
This drastic measure also aimed to deflect
    attention from mounting corruption scandals
involving himself, his family, and his inner circle,
Allegations include the First Lady's bribery
(luxury handbags and etc), stock manipulation,
    land speculation, the suppression of
investigations into drug smuggling and more.

Also, dont forget the said opposition leader makes Yoon's corruption look like child's play in comparison, which is why Yoon was able to beat him in election in the first place. He killed more than 7 people to cover up his tracks, and should be in jail instead of parading as a hero against Yoon's martial law. Its wild that Lee is still the opposition party leader

So the President declared martial law. What does the South Korean Constitution say about this? Why and when can the President declare martial law? For how long? Will he need to have the decision confirmed after 3 months? 100 days? How can the Parliament intervene? When? Does it require 3/4 of the votes to do so?

I've been studying this matter for over a year.
While I can't explain every reason in detail, here are the key points: he feels threatened about losing power and is trying to prevent his wife from going to prison. Other than that many of us find him guilty in
    - Media manipulation
    - Responsibility evasion for Itaewon tragedy
    - Stock market manipulation
    - Preferential treatment in Seoul-Yangpyeong Highway route change
    - Kim Keon-hee's luxury goods scandal and anti-corruption violations
    - Corruption in presidential office and residence construction
    - Abuse of legislative veto power
    - Suppression of Marine Corporal Chae’s case investigation
    - Interference in customs drug investigations
    - Party nomination manipulation
    - Civilian involvement in national administration
    - Misconduct in industrial complex site selection
    - Illegal polling and political funding violations
    - Abuse of executive orders undermining the National Assembly
    - Denial of Korean Provisional Government legitimacy
    - Historical distortion
    - Support for Japan's Fukushima water release
    - Allowed Sado Mine's UNESCO listing..
There are more but these are main points.. He does not have right people around him to advise him what is good things to do because nobody wants to work with him due to his toxic alpha male attitude.

Just know, South Korea is basically divided into:
      Pro-USA
      Pro-China/Russia/NK
      Pro-Japan
      Anti-USA
      Anti-China/Russia/NK
      Anti-Japan

@@kennarajora6532 It fails to acknowledge the forced labour of around 2,000 Koreans during Japan's colonial era, as Japan has not appropriately recognised this history.
for example, they describe the Korean miners as workers who came voluntarily to earn money, when in reality, they were forced to labour under horrible conditions. Families of victims and many of us are also disappointed with the Korean government’s lack of strong opposition to the listing of UNESCO.

you guys obviously don't know much about SK other than what you hear on TV. The country has a long history of martial law, coups, consecutive presidents being impeached and sent to jail one after another, military junta lead governments, right wing dictators, dissidents being rounded up by the military at night never to be heard of again. They are basically the Thailand, Pakistan and Turkey of North East Asia. The country is ungovernable.
A few years ago they had consecutive presidents being impeached and sent to jail one after another. They even sent one of the princes of the Samsung family to jail. Watch this president being impeached and him and his wife ending up in jail. The next president after him is going to have the same fate too.
That is SK, a very developed country that looks really well maintained and stable in the surface but is very unstable and very unpredictable.
This is what happens when you have a country that had almost 1000 years of monarchy while being run by a merit based civil servant administration and then you switch to a political system of liberal democracy where leaders get chosen by the people through a popularity contest.

Thank you. Its about 8 votes away from impeachment. Votes Needed from yoon's party. 10 of them voted against martial law. But is uncertain if they will also vote for impeachment. I want to see if the president will resign with dignity or will just wait for impeachment. Based on his moves. The latter seems more likely. What are your thoughts?

I am sad that the world seems to have taken the peace and prosperity brought by democracy for granted, not even 100 years after people around the world united to defeat authoritarianism in WWII. You’d think that the huge difference in prosperity and human flourishing between the two Koreas would be the best example of why democracy is the best form of government we’ve found so far.
I hope martial law is revoked and the rights of all Korean citizens are restored, including the right to hold former leaders to account for their corruption in the justice system.

    • @kennarajora6532

I'm sorry but this comment's really pushing my buttons the wrong way.
"I am sad that the world seems to have taken the peace and prosperity brought by democracy for granted"
The 'world'? What world are you referring to? Most of the world is still undemocratic. They never took anything for granted.
"100 years after people around the world united to defeat authoritarianism in WWII"
80 years not 100 and it wasn't against authoritarianism, it was against fascism, which is a strain of authoritarianism but they aren't the same thing. Fascism combined authoritarianism with militarism, social conservatism, ultranationalism, capitalism with state-interventionism, strong man leadership and an ideology which believes in a national social hierarchy (among other things). It's usually also territorially expansionist and seeks to invade other nations. WWII wasn't fought against authoritarianism because a lot of the allies at the time were authoritarian (the Soviet Union was an authoritarian dictatorship under Stalin, China was too but under Chiang, some of the other allies were monarchies, etc).
"You’d think that the huge difference in prosperity and human flourishing between the two Koreas would be the best example of why democracy is the best form of government we’ve found so far."
South Korea's economic boom started in the 80s when it was still a military dictatorship under Chun. Democratisation occurred after the economy flourished, not the other way around.
South Korea isn't in this situation because the people could no longer see how great democracy is, it's in this situation because some guy appears to want to get out of the consequences of his own bad leadership.
"I hope martial law is revoked and the rights of all Korean citizens are restored, including the right to hold former leaders to account for their corruption in the justice system. "
      That I agree with.

you obviously don't know much about SK other than what you hear on TV.
