I am sad that the world seems to have taken the peace and prosperity brought by democracy for granted, not even 100 years after people around the world united to defeat authoritarianism in WWII. You’d think that the huge difference in prosperity and human flourishing between the two Koreas would be the best example of why democracy is the best form of government we’ve found so far. I hope martial law is revoked and the rights of all Korean citizens are restored, including the right to hold former leaders to account for their corruption in the justice system.
I'm sorry but this comment's really pushing my buttons the wrong way. "I am sad that the world seems to have taken the peace and prosperity brought by democracy for granted" The 'world'? What world are you referring to? Most of the world is still undemocratic. They never took anything for granted. "100 years after people around the world united to defeat authoritarianism in WWII" 80 years not 100 and it wasn't against authoritarianism, it was against fascism, which is a strain of authoritarianism but they aren't the same thing. Fascism combined authoritarianism with militarism, social conservatism, ultranationalism, capitalism with state-interventionism, strong man leadership and an ideology which believes in a national social hierarchy (among other things). It's usually also territorially expansionist and seeks to invade other nations. WWII wasn't fought against authoritarianism because a lot of the allies at the time were authoritarian (the Soviet Union was an authoritarian dictatorship under Stalin, China was too but under Chiang, some of the other allies were monarchies, etc). "You’d think that the huge difference in prosperity and human flourishing between the two Koreas would be the best example of why democracy is the best form of government we’ve found so far." South Korea's economic boom started in the 80s when it was still a military dictatorship under Chun. Democratisation occurred after the economy flourished, not the other way around. South Korea isn't in this situation because the people could no longer see how great democracy is, it's in this situation because some guy appears to want to get out of the consequences of his own bad leadership. "I hope martial law is revoked and the rights of all Korean citizens are restored, including the right to hold former leaders to account for their corruption in the justice system. " That I agree with.
We're seeing drastic things happening all around the world, wars, terror attacks, whether change, attacking a certain religion, low birth rate, martial law in a democratic country like korea, these things happening all around the world, we hoped with technology we will go forward but in reality we're going down and down, don't you guys think this is odd ?

I don’t know anything about Korean politics but this sounds like the dumbest power-play ever when your own party and people turn on you
North Korean eating popcorns: “let him cook”
Democracy become overloop by when dictator come by election.
Electoral politics create totalitarianism.
every dictatorship is voted out by people, including every facist
South Korea getting more points in democracy Index. Good for them.
South koreans went to bed in a democracy and almost woke up in a dictatorship.
Democracy doesn’t work
It was resolved peacefully within 6 hours. This is democracy. Democracy is alive.
Democracy destroys the Middle East.
Never forget what happened to Libya.
Their situation is so bad. Gaddafi saved Libya. Westerners come in and destroy it.
What a great message you have sent. Very good. I love you.❤❤
I didn't know I needed to hear the words shouting slogans in a German accent until now @1:22
1.what if someone told the president there’s a coup/terrorist coming and declaring martial law is to be done.
2.what if someone is boycotting the president to make him impeached by telling him to declare martial law because there’s a coup/terrorist coming.
Poor guy probably saw a nightmare while taking a nap and immediately acted on it
Nah, I am pretty sure he was shitfaced.
there was an alleged movie in US made stating martial law will be in effect in future and that director died unnaturally... this was in 2015
True Korea…reunification
Yup. Hungry North Koreans should embrace democracy. Being stuck in 1900s is not good for them.
Indeed
Without the kim.
Chairman Kim : nuh uhh
That's no longer a possibility.
'The atack on my life has left me scarred and deformed.'
- Emperor Sheev Palpetine,
United States - This is a test run.
The US is going through something much worse. A complete ripping up of legal governance by the incoming administration.
would never happen Trump is much too smart
Ha?
You're off your rocker if you think so.
😂trump tried same,but he won
Did he take permission from Samsung😅😅😅
The president has officially made himself a clown.
What's interesting is that the US instead of condemning the attempted coup only expressed concerns. It seems that Americans at least did not oppose this if not backed it directly
Good day! Many political strategists might take advantage of conflicts so to gain more power by revealing true identities or political influences. They can tell the reaction of whoever fell prey to anxiety. God bless!
"I am sad that the world seems to have taken the peace and prosperity brought by democracy for granted"
The 'world'? What world are you referring to? Most of the world is still undemocratic. They never took anything for granted.
"100 years after people around the world united to defeat authoritarianism in WWII"
80 years not 100 and it wasn't against authoritarianism, it was against fascism, which is a strain of authoritarianism but they aren't the same thing.
"You’d think that the huge difference in prosperity and human flourishing between the two Koreas would be the best example of why democracy is the best form of government we’ve found so far."
South Korea's economic boom started in the 80s when it was still a military dictatorship under Chun.
That I agree with.
Freedom only
CIA behind this
With the exception of people in certain regions, 80 percent of S.Koreans are concerned about his dictatorship and extreme right.
Are 80% of the people living in the cities?
South Koreans better wake tf up before their economy collapses even further.
A primus inter pares presidential system in place would've prevented all that chaos.
This is very dangerous. Remember when Russia said it needed to denazzify?
There is no martial law in Russia? Actually there is but only in 4 new regions
Martial Law for what? To deflect all the hate his wife was getting towards him? What ?
This is so confusing.
This is Second coming from Revelation! The Bible talks of the time before our savior Lord Jesus Christ return to this world! The world is welcoming him if this keep up! We want him to come too! We tired of this circus!
I think they might be using this as a guise to prepare for war from their north
Why is there "grave concern?" and what could this all lead to?
The U.S: we can shock the world with jan 3rd.
ROK: hold my beer.
Background music playing Shin Jung-Hyunn's song "Beautiful Rivers and Mountains".
i didnt expect this from South Korea
Turkey in 2016*
Democracy at peak ❤
the people are tired of the BS
I pray for calm in SK right now .
Judging by the numerous comments from Russian trolls making fun of the South Korean president, Moscow c,early supports the opposition in South Korean parliament. I wonder why.
Brother tried to pull an Order 66
The opposition party member, Lee Jae-myung, has already been charged with four criminal counts and is awaiting judgment on seven or eight additional charges related to his actions as mayor and governor. He is reportedly attempting to evade legal judgment by various means. Most Koreans believe he is clearly a criminal and unfit to govern the country
He better learn first from Ferdinand Marcos on how to declare martial law. Haha. Kidding aside. 😂
So sad that 81% foregn that planning to take new year holiday in SK are cancelling.
The cause and foundation of the problem is italy and France Paris,Rome,Napolitano,Napoli,America, Rome,Taranto,Torino,Sardegna'
What is happening?
I can’t wrap my head around this. Thank goodness the interviewer asked what the forces were.
Communist forces, where? Are they in the room with us Mr. President?
What a shame…
Not a shame.
Exactly what he did in hindsight
비상 계엄 해제했다
Lol y'all been claiming that all day, but we ain't seen it lifted 🤣
Just announcing it is a huge mistake...a funny country...
What a great message you have sent. Very good. I love you.❤❤❤

So he's using Communism to fight Communism? 🤣 I declare...
Korea is a joke, democracy is a joke too nowadays, democracy in Korea is a spectacular joke.
Crazy world we live in
Korea divided teo because of USA Russia Japan
Never forget it!!
South Koreans are smart educated people , active for policy
They never let happen
Woke up to see this happening 😂...
Afraid of losing his seat 🪑😂what a master stroke...lol 😆
The Zelenskyy curse struck again. SUNAK, BIDEN, SCHOLZ, YOON
One of the kinda friendly Asian country I hope South Korea gets it right
May be to much growth and no chk and balance… My opinion
Take a lesson Donnie. Try this here & hopefully we can overturn it quickly. If your elected party members were patriots, Congress could govern on its own leaving you to pout in the corner.
Do this when your wife buys too many Chanel bags 🤣
Terrible timing, considering how the North is emboldened by Russian support.
What does this have to do with anything?
Indeed. Nonsense.
As a Korean, I'm so ashamed
North korea is being popular now.. 😂
Popular 1900's reenactment.
No problems Kim will show you!
where the cabinet should be
North korea defeated american democracy from south korea. Wow
What happens next? I know what's happening next: the country will give me a Wednesday holiday in April or May because I have to vote for the next president.😂
Hi! Just trying to see if this comment gets deleted! We're all being censored around this subject.
Don't be worrying about martial law in another country when you can't even have a conversation on here
Declaring martial law because of budget cuts is simply beyond my imagination.
Seeing this, I realised I'd totally expect such a move in the US, but never in a place like South Korea...
Really? This just shows uneducated you are. SK has had mutiple coups, and military dicatorships. But I guess you've been brainwashed into thinking J6 is more of a coup
you obviously don't know much about SK other than what you hear on TV. The country has a long history of martial law, coups, consecutive presidents being impeached and sent to jail one after another, military junta lead governments, right wing dictators, dissidents being rounded up by the military at night never to be heard of again. They are basically the Thailand, Pakistan and Turkey of North East Asia. The country is ungovernable.
A few years ago they had consecutive presidents being impeached and sent to jail one after another. They even sent one of the princes of the Samsung family to jail. Watch this president being impeached and him and his wife ending up in jail. The next president after him is going to have the same fate too.
That is SK, a very developed country that looks really well maintained and stable in the surface but is very unstable and very unpredictable.
@@DaniMagnes Both South Korea political parties give me no hope. Some of the decisions and things they say is just mind boggling. They need to start finding the middle ground and stabilize their views before their country really collapses even faster.
It is really just an individual idiocy - the attempt collapsed in 90 minutes and it was supposed to be shock move announced past midnight. How could an intelligent, sane person attempt such a comic coup?
