Fun fact: the director Lee Cronin has confirmed the three Necronomicons from Army of Darkness correspond to the three Evil Dead "stories" (original The Evil Dead trilogy, Evil Dead remake, and Evil Dead Rise), and the books all have their unique looks and characteristics to them. He alluded to a lot of other things like there being more books, every story taking place in the same timeline, etc. Overall, it makes me very excited about the future of the Evil Dead franchise.
Who knows maybe since ash has crossed over to the marvel universe we learned the necronomicons also exist in all realities maybe he will show up in what it zombie series
You’re not wrong! Also Bruce Campbell has 2 voice cameos 1. He was in the recording saying “burn it! it’s called the book of the dead for a reason!” He described as a time displaced ash set sometime after the series or at some random point 2. My headcanon as to why the evil possess some but not others is because the Deadites love chaos. They love toying with their prey both physically and psychologically. Honestly, you should definitely check out Ash vs Evil Dead if you haven't. Also we definitely need a John Wick 4 reaction
A very good point. If you think about the first Deadite killed in any of the movies, it seems genuinely surprised when Scotty hits it with the axe, then starts pleading with him (since it's possessing his girlfriend) "NO, YOU LOVE HER!" As if it thought he wouldn't be so quick to act, and it's only way of trying to save itself was to play off of his emotional attachment to Shelley.
The 2013 one stands out to me as my favorite. Y’all should give it a shot. Also if you like the lead in this film you’ll love Jane Levy’s take. She went all out!
Fun fact the voice in the recording that yells “destroy it, it’s called the book of the dead for a reason” is Bruce Cambell’s and the director says it’s canonically supposed to be Ash Williams, the iconic protagonist from most of the other movies. I don’t know how he ended up in that time period but it wouldn’t be the first time he’s time traveled!
One thing I love about the evil dead movies is that to me there isn't a bad movie. There's not another horror series I can think of that doesn't have at least 1 bad entry.
I find that with scream, I know a lot of folks dont like 3 but I feel for where it is set and the reveal makes a semi unique in that franchise. I absolutely loved 6 and really can't wait for its future. I would say the child's play franchise as well but seed puts me off too much, other than that yeah not many franchises have all the movies I realllllly like.
Just discovered your guys's page with this reaction, absolutely loved it! I can't wait for you to watch the 2013 remake. I highly suggest making sure watch the uncut version. It's only about five minutes longer but the scenes that were cut in the theatrical add context to certain scenes in the movie. Also the remake is waaaaaay scarier in my opinion. Can't wait to see more of you guys soon!!
Loved the movie, in fact I love all iterations of the franchise. The Evil Dead franchise in my opinion is one of the most solid horror franchises out there. You can see the love for the genre & the franchise by what the creatiors achieved. Lee Cronin did a great job. I also think the sound design was fantastic and might get a nomination for next year's Oscars. That would be a first for the franchise if it happens.
I always love seeing you BOTH react to something for the first time it's such a treat and it always makes my day thanks Jen and Holden, Also grats on your newborn!
18:02 I'm having a great time. Jen is such a wimp (her words, not mine) that watching her react to a horror movie is absolutely epic 😂. Seeing her cover her ears and witness the children of the movie doing the same 1 sec later killed me😂😂. Thx Mr. and Mrs Hardman for that video 👍😂.
The 2013 one was really good and it as well as the original has a far bit of backstory to it, about thirty minutes which is about what this has as well. I would love to watch more reactions for this franchise. Don't forget about Ash Vs. The Evil Dead.
I'm not an Evil Dead guy, I probably saw two of them. Somehow I saw the red band trailer for this and was just fascinated. When the theater opening date came I struggled with myself to either wait 2-3 months for streaming, or go opening day. I went opening day. It was the first horror movie I've ever seen in a theater in my life. I'm 50. I like horror movies, the good ones anyway, and we've been in a golden age of horror since The Others with Nicole Kidman. It's just that seeing them in a theater leaves me open and vulnerable and a possible spectacle to other viewers as I twitch and weep and urinate in my seat. Opening day, there I am, even keeping my eyes open for the cheese grater scene. I feel like I should have some sort of award. I loved it, it was crazy fun, and I'll tell you, for this franchise, cinematography and acting are not categories I'd have thought would matter, but they were given a lot of attention here, so thank you to the crew, the cast, the writers and director and producers (Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell). I'm hoping and guessing that Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan are getting a lot more contact from their agents following this film. Looking forward to director Lee Cronin's next one.
Fun fact, the voice on the record warning the priests about the book is Bruce Campbell. So if you want to think it's Ash trying to warn them. You wouldn't be wrong.
This was really fun watching your reactions throughout! You two really need to do more horror movies on this channel! Nice touch with the cheese grading commentary! LOL

There are 3 books in the Evil Dead universe. The first from the Ash films/series, the second from the 2013 requel, and the 3rd from Rise. All 3 appear in Army of Darkness.
Kinda surprised Holden didn’t say anything about the blood elevator. It looked like he got really excited as it happened as if he knew the homage, but then never mentioned the shining. Maybe he’s saving it.
it's driving me crazy how people giving praises to Sam Raimi and then suggesting only the Evil Dead movie as if it was his only horror movie , you wanna a scary Sam Raimi horror movie , watch " Drag Me To Hell" that was terrifying
Jen literally has tears in her eyes at 19:01 . Also really loved your reactions to the live action Transformers movies. I was 6 when the first 1 came out and I rewatched the 1st 3 with my mom and went in blind for the other 3. Also I liked the latest movie of the franchise.
If no one mentioned it, Bruce Campbell's voice is in this several times in the recordings as a priest. Thank y'all for always great content! More horror movies for sure!
Great reaction! I thought Rose was a great return to form after the edgy 2013 reboot - Ash vs Evil Dead was fun, but movies just hit different. Speaking of, I’d recommend at least the first episode of Ash vs Evil Dead as it’s directed by Raimi - I’m not sure if tv shows do well enough for you guys to watch the whole thing, but that pilot is classic Raimi!
A little known fact: The Evil Dead films are based on a true story. It happened in northern Wisconsin after consuming a bad frozen burrito. Things went haywire.
Hope you two do get to watch the original trilogy and the 2013 requel when you get the chance. Also fun fact when the kid is listening to the vinyl you hear one of the priests say “Destroy it, its called the book of the dead for a reason!’ That was actually Bruce Campbell saying that.
Hey Guys, glad u both enjoyed the movie. It was made by one of my fellow country men Lee Cronin who went to College with my sister In-law..unlike my brother i was never a big Evil Dead guy, he thought it wasnt funny enough and he didint love it but review were pretty good..i really liked it...I felt it could of been a little scarier but still had its moments...The cast, especially the mother and big sister were great, damn that Dani, kids right?..the big sisters scene in the kitchen was great...My only gripes would be, where the hell did the blood in the elevator come from and i didnt love the end monster..it was very similar to The Nic Cage recent horror movie Colour of Space, also dont watch cause its the grossest movie ever......Luv ur channel, hope everything great with ur little one...
You have to watch the2013 remake. A lot of your questions at the end of your video would make sense like the elevator scene and how Bridget got possessed.
Curious as to why ppl are hating for Holden not caring about the family. It’s not a drama so character connection is not essential and they’re meant to die. To me, the only one I could have appreciated for their limited time was the mom and I didn’t care about the rest. Like, at the end, if you are adamant to save the girl, send her under the gate first. When the gate closed I was like “I will miss you”.😂 Gambling 3 lives for 1.
I liked this one though not many do and they tend to compare it to the 2013 version saying that this was crap and that the 2013 was good but personally I liked them both. Yes 2013 shocked me on a level that I don't even like watching the reactions to it at times because of how horrifying some of the things there are but this one had amazing acting and I think the idea of having the words being played on a record instead of spoken or played off a tape recorder was an original idea. Glad you both liked it and fun fact the actress of Beth said that she was coverd in so much fake blood that she could barely move her arms and legs so she walked around with a water spray bottle so that she could dissolve some of it and allow her to actually move her arms again. Ok let me explian something once infected a person is in many ways already dead exept for Ash who was able to fight it off in the second movie but that is a different story. They are called Deadites and they infect with getting some of their blood in an infected wound or just down right coughing up blood all over the person so that it gets in the mouth. No Deadite is ever the same but all of them always have some ammounts of humor to them and love to toy with those around them. The moment the book is opened and the words are spoken the evil is summoned and must seek out a host. They decided to go to the mother I guess cause she was the closest to the place they were locaited at the time. There are a lot of call backs here for the original movies and that is always fun to see as well.
The fact that this is a stand alone Evil Dead film makes it one if my favorite horror movies to watch now. Theres no past to anyone in the movie, so you dont know how the writers will treat them and who will die or not. This film balances so much gore, horror, comedy, and drama in a way thats not drawn out to me at all. The ending couldve provided a bit more, but im definitely watching this one a few more times
I love this movie. SPOILER: Only thing I felt was a little bit silly and over the top was the chewing the eyeball off the neighbour and spitting it way into the other guy’s mouth like a fricking ping pong ball.
Actually the book in Hocus Pocus was a Grimoire, which in black magic mythology has been around for centuries. Where as the Necronomicon only goes back to H .P.Lovecraft.
Kandarian demons (aka deadites) are not like other demons from possession movies. They can't be exorcized. Also, killing them seems to depend on which book was used & which demon was summoned. The deadite can infect others like what happened with Bridget.
I think an inherited mental illness runs in their family, perhaps bipolar disorder or depression. There are hints with how they talk about how their mother acted and the sister's fear of bringing a child into this world I think was more than just fear of becoming a mother. They are also very non-specific about the reason why her husband left her. The mom being bipolar may also better explain why the youngest daughter would open the door for the demon, if she is accustomed to seeing her in a bad way. Then once the demon possesses the mother, the infection is transferred by blood, like the genetic component of the mental illness. The mother stabs herself with the tattoo gun and then uses it on the daughter. The daughter stabs the brother in the bicep then bleeds all over him. The sister was stabbed with a clean piece of mirror so her wound was not tainted. If we are continuing with the allegory of hereditary mental illness, it often begins to manifest during adolescence which is why only the older two children would be affected and not the youngest daughter.
Why was the family bad? They all seemed loving of each other. Lots of people have kids and rocky relationships. The important thing is that the family members love each other. Why would you say the family is bad if they seem to love and respect each other?
I liked the movie, but for me Evil Dead 2 is still my favorite. But,I gotta say,for me the mother made the film. She was such a funny, yet creepy deadite. I'd rank her up there with Ted Raimi's Henrietta as my all time 2 favorite deadites.
Fun fact the man that yells " DESTROY IT, IT'S CALLED THE BOOK of the DEAD FOR A REASON" was Bruce Campbell who played Ash. OMGOSH so you have been eating your husband skin in casseroles for years and never knew it "hot damn" haha 😆 I just subscribed to your channel. Let the good times roll!
Just to put this film in perspective, Ash Williams would have heard this Deadite cackling menacingly at him, been startled and thrown about a little bit, then cracked a stupid joke and laid a holy beatdown on it. Its weird how normal folks scream in unhinged terror at Deadites, but Ash has zero respect for them.
I wonder if you guys are going for a non age restricted channel based on the lack of gore in this reaction? Even still it was a great reaction but I just assume go all out because anyone who should be watching this is an adult anyways but that's just me. I'm glad Jen didn't give birth during the filming and yes, you should do Evil Dead 2013. Both of these new additions to the franchise were great. And I hope the new addition to your family is doing great as well. Cheers!!

22:48 😂😂😂 This is your funniest video guys. You're killing me 😂😂. #HoldenSecretIngredient
I think i remember reading somewhere that one's willpower can protect them from from deadite possession.
Kandarian demons (aka deadites) are not like other demons from possession movies. They can't be exorcized. Also, killing them seems to depend on which book was used & which demon was summoned. The deadite can infect others like what happened with Bridget.
I highly recommend watching talk to me, movie theater or waiting for it to come out for entertainment system
The 2013 film is not a remake. It takes place in the same world. Its the 2nd book i believe, and this is supposed to be the third one.
Why was the family bad? They all seemed loving of each other. Lots of people have kids and rocky relationships. The important thing is that the family members love each other. Why would you say the family is bad if they seem to love and respect each other?
Every reaction from Jen was me watching this alone a theatre. Absolutely terrifying this movie was!!!
The Fly (1986) is probably the best movie to watch while preggers. No particular reason it just is.
This is the first time I've seen a vid from you guys in a while so I just wanna say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!🚼🍼👶
Oh you guys are gonna do the Evil Dead series for October, I know it! *manifesting*
This Movie was So Good!
this reaction was wild. you both look like people i know and you both are really pretty. sheeeeesh
Jen said want I thought about throwing Beth's body out of the window,I saw this twice in a cinema.
Just to put this film in perspective, Ash Williams would have heard this Deadite cackling menacingly at him, been startled and thrown about a little bit, then cracked a stupid joke and laid a holy beatdown on it. Its weird how normal folks scream in unhinged terror at Deadites, but Ash has zero respect for them.
evil dead 2 and army of darkness are the best
I wonder if you guys are going for a non age restricted channel based on the lack of gore in this reaction? Even still it was a great reaction but I just assume go all out because anyone who should be watching this is an adult anyways but that's just me. I'm glad Jen didn't give birth during the filming and yes, you should do Evil Dead 2013. Both of these new additions to the franchise were great. And I hope the new addition to your family is doing great as well.
Cheers!!
Has Jen not seen the 2013 Evil Dead? I really hope you show her that on the channel if she hasn't
Actually you do need to watch the originals plus remake and the series because director confirms there are three books all together and one shows up in this movie and the another in evil dead 2013 and one ash Williams had Also Bruce Campbell has 2 voice cameos
1. He was in the recording saying “burn it! it’s called the book of the dead for a reason!” He was described as a time displaced ash set sometime after the series or at some random point
2. The moment Ellie eats somebody’s eyeball out is Bruce Campbell furiously eating an apple lol
Why are they reacting to movies that have 2.9 rating???
Who even keeps suggesting shit like that???
@@tanelviil9149 well let’s see, reviews and reviewers don’t ever speak for everybody and this movie was really great so…maybe keep your negativity to yourself? It’s not all about how you feel and what you want lol
Jen after elevator doors and a flood of blood rushes out: What are you gonna do?
Me: Grab a mop
I’d love to see you guys review the series!! my personal favorite was 2013’s Evil Dead
Oh guys you HAVE to watch the 2013 remake. It is a THOUSAND times better and Jen will lose her mind even more so lol Please watch that one.
When did u guys film this video? Since we already know Jen had the baby.
The lead actress killed this role
This is CLASSIC Sam raimi. Evil dead looks and feels like evil dead again.
Bro, the demon was such a troll in this one. For the most part it was pretty funny. If only they had a Bible in the home. Necronomicawhatever, the Word of God is beating that thing 4-0
Love seeing y’all’s reaction!
Movie sucked
I give this one a 9.5
Really liked it! The gore was fantastic the elevator scene was amazing to watch haha
I liked this movie! Further exploring the Evil Dead Universe! Hope you two check out the other movies and the TV show Ash VS Evil Dead in the future!
Yay. More of Holden thinking every "joke" he say, is funny.
