The man in the video is Flosi Þorgeirsson, a legend in the Icelandic metal scene who is also a nurse and a historian. He has battled chronic depression his entire life, lived through tragedies and is a recovering alcoholic. Today he hosts a popular history podcast with a fellow metalhead, where he openly and honestly discusses his depression, and has brought the topic to the surface like few people have managed. This man has earned a life long respect from me. Beautiful video, beautiful song, beautiful and dark country
I lost my brother in car accident six years ago. Divorced four years ago. Half year later met the best woman in the world, connected with her by the music, exactly by the Lagnaetti of Solstafir. Half year ago was on their concert. Now I watching THIS. Emotions so much. Thank you.
Gniewko that means so much to hear, especially from you, who has experienced such loss and still been able to connect through these songs and images. I’m sorry about your brother, and thank you for putting your experiences out there for people to connect through.
God, I love Solstafir's music videos. They actually give a shit about cinematography, shooting at 24fps, and building on visual storytelling. It's like watching a short film with great music behind it.
DinoMosh we shot it in 4K, and then I scanned the entire video onto 35mm movie film before digitizing it, which gives it that nice, rich grain. Film will never die. 🤘🏼
My favourite song by them. I remember Addi's speech before this song on tour with Myrkur. It made me tear up as person struggling with depression for years. He said it's about mental illness and how we can not comprehend struggles of our loved ones and friends that suffer even when they try to explain them to us. How the words can't explain some of the feelings they experience. Bláfjall means blue mountain though he several times called it black mountain - to better capture the meaning in english, I guess. The mountain of blackness inside. The void. If you have a chance go see them live. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. I fell in love with Dannish banshee Myrkur only to have my heart broken by antichristian Icelandic heathen bastards. :)
SAME!! Saw them the same tour, in Stockholm. Also cried like crazy during that song. I was at the front and cried during the entire set actually... Addi noticed. So when they were playing Goddess of the Ages, he jumped down to me and held me for quite a long while while I cried into his shoulder and he sang the lyrics. Such a wonderful person. He really sees *you*.
Got a chance to see them live in Moscow, Volta club'2018. God that was an amazing experience. The audience was as one, solid creature singing something they didn't clearly understand, tho it was deepest dive into the music and its atmosphere. I'm from Altay Mountains and I hope can visit the Iceland someday...
Yes, I had the honor of seeing them play at John Smith rock festival a few days ago. It was one of the best and most emotional concerts I've seen, and the best of that festival alongside Swallow the Sun.
Only the ones with deal with depression can understand each other. Saddly I suffer that ill and have to fight it every day . I felt comfortable reading your comment. Thanks
@@malteadotas4 Right, but don't forget the director's work, Bowen Staines from Don't Panic FIlms, you can easily recognize his style and artistic process in each one of his videos. If you watch other Solstafir's videos that aren't directed by Bowen you can see it's quite different, (good too, but different). If you watch Fjara, Lágnætti and Bláfjall which are directed by Bowen you can see the same amazing artistic touch. So yeah, it is indeed Sólstafir's vision, but above all it is also the director's vision. Don't forget the filmmakers people :)
Everytime I watch a Sólstafir video I leave with this feeling that every other place in this Earth looks like shit compared to Iceland. Always amazing.
I don't know how the hell I missed this video from one of my favourite bands, only finding it like 10 months later but this is so powerful and well made I always love your music.
Lyrics translation: Never saw death coming in your eyes Never saw anything but death, reflected on me It holds tight to me and don't let me go It keeps on I never saw it born in you Never saw it prowling to me It crawled to me like a scentless gas It crawled.. Oh, since I'm terrified Oh, since I'm rash Oh, since I'm tormented Awe takes charge Oh, since I became a man Oh, since courage grew in me I've pierced through the fear I've silenced death's call Never found sickness in you Never found a lack of spirit in you I'm crazy, driving on the gravel out into the emptiness Never saw death coming in your eyes Never saw anything but death, reflected on me It's beautiful to me, it mocks me Oh, so crafty I dreamed so often of rising from the rust In the fjord I beheld anew By the root of the mountains, and by the cure of the glacier And woke a second time Never saw death coming in your eyes Never saw anything but death, reflected on me It holds tight to me and don't let me go It keeps on
The force of the visuals and the sound of the song hits you so hard in the feels, you don't even want to understand the lyrics, because that would just distract you from your emotions.
Really, can't believe how deep and intense such an History telling from the Video sequence alone could become...! - For a couple minutes, when I truly "connected" and realized what the H... was going on, I really FELT his pain, and felt compelled to shed tears of desperation (and had to struggle to overcome that), even while I've NEVER BEEN SOO ATTACHED TO ANY COUPLE I HAD, NOR HAD ANY CHILDREN! :O This Video truly is an AMAZING Production, both so deep and emotional it took less than a couple minutes to completely SHAKE an stoneheart guy like me. And even more with that Song... Song that, alone, always had shaken me, since I first heard it, looong before I even had a clue about it's Lyrics' meaning! Well... I have to really thank you for including that "blooper + behind the scenes" ending, 'cause that was the perfect antidote to allow me to come back to normal in no time. But the impression remained none the less, VERY DEEP in my Heart... Thanks Sólstafir...! :)
There was one show in Quebec that I really like. Throught the scenes you will see the characters struggling with distant memories or delusion of people reacting to their present reality. Basically it was like fighting ghosts, the vision of your girlfriend cheating on you, your family telling you they disprove your behaviors or event you wish could unfold differently. And... this is exactly like this. The series is called 19-2 for anyone curious. Easily the best one I can think of of the last decade. It is the french one, the original, not the English one.
The productions is very clean, the video probably one of the best metal music videos and the music is very emotional. Love it. So much good metal coming from iceland!

Either demonetize it, or just let me and the guys launch any upcoming videos for Sólstafir, using a different platform. It's been several years, and this still REALLY infuriates me.

Never saw death coming in your eyes
Never saw anything but death, reflected on me

It crawled to me like a scentless gas

Oh, since I'm tormented
Awe takes charge

Oh, since courage grew in me
I've pierced through the fear
I've silenced death's call
Never found sickness in you
Never found a lack of spirit in you
I'm crazy, driving on the gravel out into the emptiness
