Drummer Hallgrímur Jón Hallgrimsson comments: "Drýsill, in Icelandic, means demon. This is the story of a woman who fell for someone who promised her the world with his smile. She fell captive to his mind games. His intentions were riddled with evil as he fed off of her love. Her humanity disappears as he gains power by mentally and physically torturing her, keeping her locked away in a prison of her own mind. The video illustrates her personal journey through hell as she spirals further into the darkness of captivity until what feels like the end. But one day she is able to gather her strength and use the rest of her power towards the dark to fight her way back into the light. As she kills him with the very shovel he was going to use to bury her with, he is still smiling at her. Laughing at her. Mocking her. This song is about fighting the demons that you allow to control your mind, and breaking free. It’s about rescuing yourself and finding the strength and the courage to be victorious, no matter how hurt you’ve been. We were excited to work with Kim Holm (who also created the Svartir Sandar album artwork) on this one as we felt he could perfectly capture the dark feelings of despair represented in this story with his art." Kim Holm comments: "Depression is a deep dark demon filled cave that I've spent too much of my life in, and as I started finding visuals for Sólstafir's hauntingly brilliant "Drýsill", life and art seemed to mix in terrible new ways. The lyrics deal with themes of death and abuse that I’ve luckily been spared, but the journey through the underworld seemed to metaphorically mirror each day working on it. I like to believe there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, but realistically it’s not so for everyone. "Drýsill" is a statement that for some, there should be no light. Only the end."
A bit of contradiction there between the band's and director's message... Band: "It’s about rescuing yourself and finding the strength and the courage to be victorious" Director: "...there should be no light. Only the end." Thus, no light. no victory.
The rhythm in the beginning is very sad, sad. I'm falling into the pit of sadness. I'm getting goosebumps. makes me feel the feelings of regret, pain, sorrow. Hail From Turkey, cappadocia Metal Brothers and sisters.
Such an underrated band. I saw them in Boston a few years ago to a room with maybe 30 people in it. It was astonishing how much emotion and sound come from such a stripped down setup. Phenomenal music and atmosphere. Can't wait for this record.
I had written Sólstafir off as becoming the world’s most sleep-inducing post-shoegaze band, but the two songs I have heard from the new release have more energy and guts than anything since Svartir Sandar. I am so glad that Sólstafir has brought back elements of rock music!
Que interesante esta banda no? Me encanta toda la exposición audiovisual tan brutal en todo su contexto Islandes. El video clip para Fjara aún no lo supero. Saludos!
I'm addicted to this song!!! I can listen to it my entire day! Even when I don't speak this language it makes me wants to learn about it haha. LOVE IT!
Demon He is finally lying in the ground Yet still he is grinning Reminded you of the beating and the swelling was blue Hand glued to the shovel The blood is coagulated You walk away [from] the dark valley he made Lived in the cave The demon in the guise of a prince drew you in A black look With a smile on his lips and an expression of satisfaction that salted the wounds The farewell is tender Because his kiss on [her] lips reminded her of being beaten with leather A secret word He played there until his bones and soul creaked Hidden in the dirt Now he dwells in shadow, cold and sorrow The wolf was In the innermost fortress, he carried the halberd There was no hope Before the shield was lifted and you drew your sword
The sound of this song is very ambiental, and beautiful. 🖤 It has a certain nostalgic environment at the end connected with sitting appreciating the naturalization. 🖤
Какое же крутое звучание нашла группа. Первые записи не заходили вообще, но вот потом, совсем другое дело. Проникаешься и погружаешься в эту атмосферу, в эту музыку. Словно туман обвлакивает в свои объятия.
I am just listening to this for the first time, and it is a fantastic song!! Looking forward to seeing you again in the future, with my brother in arms: Kola Krauze! :-)
great work like always... same sound and unreal feelings. Uffff, where are our live shows ? I really want another Solstafir concert (3rd for me) in Romania !!! ☺️
Im hearing a hint of that "windmill" song that use to be famous 20 yrs ago, and a hint of Layne Staley & a hint of Alan Parsons & all mixed together into a musical masterpiece and dont even know what hes saying even.
Solstafir go ways back. They used to be prime season of mist. Really vicious, basic black metal. They became something special. The previous album is fucking excellent too. I can't comment on previous albums other than they were kinda the original Icelandic black metal from back in the early 90s

Yeh. The autumn is coming. I really need to update my playlist, crippling deppression isn't gonna come itself.

Very inspiring, thank you ! This is art
Demon
He is finally lying in the ground
Yet still he is grinning
Reminded you of the beating and the swelling was blue
Hand glued to the shovel
The blood is coagulated
You walk away [from] the dark valley he made
Lived in the cave
The demon in the guise of a prince drew you in
A black look
With a smile on his lips and an expression of satisfaction that salted the wounds
The farewell is tender
Because his kiss on [her] lips reminded her of being beaten with leather
A secret word
He played there until his bones and soul creaked
Hidden in the dirt
Now he dwells in shadow, cold and sorrow
The wolf was
In the innermost fortress, he carried the halberd
There was no hope
Before the shield was lifted and you drew your sword
Thank you for taking your time to write out the lyrics to this song. As a native English speaker it's very much appreciated.

maravilla de tema
lol, the beginning of the song sounds almost like the beginning of "Psychedelic Trance" by Talamasca, which is a completely different genre. :D
