Since the Switch implemented a progressive title, it's only a Switch thing. But yes, Luigi will be in the bottom left of the screen when you buy the last one. I'd showcase that for my playthrough, but I am using an every three day schedule, so I haven't gotten that far yet...
Ms. Mowz does not really help you find the piece in the first Black Chest's room or the piece in Flurrie's bedroom. Neither of those are rooms you ever have a reason to backtrack to. She _can_ help you find the piece in Hooktail's castle because Merlon directs you to Hooktail's castle for the Up Arrow. (Although I'd bet there's a decent number of players who go get the Up Arrow before they get Ms. Mowz because Merlon is waiting outside his house to tell you about it, whereas Ms. Mowz is just the reward for a random trouble.) The remake makes this whole problem a lot less unfair because you can _find_ star piece panels before you actually gain the ability to flip the panels since they'll pop up for a hammer whack in addition to the spin jump now. So, yeah, they require backtracking, but it's at least possible for players to have noticed the thing on their first pass through the area, so they know they'll need to come back for it later. That wasn't true in the original.
@@faithgrins I actually found both the black chest and flurrie room star pieces with Ms Mowz, because those screens are part of "larger" screens in the Rogueport Sewers and Flurrie's house respectively, meaning Ms Mowz actually detects something "in the area" even if it's not in the exact room. Then again I was basically finecombing every chapter I didn't have the art galleries for yet anyways, so I'd probs have found them with time. '^^

Watching you playthrough the game has been an incredible experience! I just 100%’d the Paper Mario TTYD Remake and was looking for someone else’s playthrough and stumbled across your channel. This is the first time I’ve watched someone play a remake having already played the original which usually comes of as boring since the player knows all of the surprises but your knowledge and commentary of the TTYD was super entertaining and really added to the experience. The small challenges you had throughout like badge-only run and trying to FTK all the enemies was just plain fun to watch. You’re extremely talented and I hope you continue to see success throughout your career!
Three weeks late, but a good game for completionists is always one in which *everything* is interconnected: - Exploring rewards you with badges, shine sprites, star pieces and coins as well as progress; - Tattling makes you learn enemies' weaknesses for optimal fighting; - Badges make battling fun and more strategic to optimize the coins you gain; - Star pieces lead to earning more badges for more options; - Money lead to buying star pieces, badges and items; - Items lead to experimenting with new recipes, and said items are bought with coins; - A badge tells you when star pieces are in a "screen", thus making exploration less tedious and more rewarding; - Troubles make you revisit the world with new abilities, earning you badges, coins, star pieces, even recipes sometimes through items; - THE LOOOOOOORE you learn by talking with NPC and tattling is a nice addition~ Games like Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star failed at completionism because of clunky, awkward mechanics (capture cards and the sticker museum, anyone?), thus making them not lesser games, but lesser 100%-games... Here, it is truly a case of "Hey, 95% is so fun, why not go for 100%?". Thank you for the concise exploration of one of my childhood games.
I kinda wish the golden badge made it possible to be gold Mario on a 2nd play-thru or something, since if you’ve 100%’d the file, there’s not really anything else to do as gold Mario
I did the ultimate 100% challenge on the original. Use glitches to get 11 Crystal stars and get 100%. Glitches can permanently lock you out of certain areas. One area you can easily get locked out of is chapter 7. The game gets broken so the Riverside Station is up and the door to the station is locked but missing its lock so it cannot be opened. In this scenario, you cannot raise the bridge and you cannot get back on the train. If you missed a star piece on the train or at the station, restart. Also, you can only get the 7th crystal once, if you try to do it twice it softlocks and you cannot progress beyond chapter 7. I learned about all these softlocks from experience. Luckily I did a pre-hooktail pit and had the judgment to copy my save file, so with every softlock I was starting with a higher level with a decent number of badges.
Now that I think about it, in contrast to a any% or 100%, I wonder if a low% run of TTYD remake could be interesting to do and watch. Like every lv up gained and every item, badge, star piece, shrine collected is worth some points (maybe 1 for each, maybe you can give each of them different value), and you're looking to get as few point as possible before beating the game
I’ve 100%’d the game and I don’t call myself done with it yet. The highest stats level to reach is 99, and I may’ve been around level 30 when I completed the main story. So, I’ve been grinding in the Pit Of 100 Trials to reach 99.
For the star piece in flurries room the game does expect you to go back to flurries house to learn the code for the briefcase in the hot sauce trouble i forgot the name lol
Depending on your level you can get quite a few star points by doing an exhibition match with Sir Swoop when he joins the Glitz Pit. You also can tattle the Swooper early. I managed to get I think 5 star points for each of the 4 Swoopers in the fight.
With the shine sprite behind the tree in chapter 4, if you look really closely through the leaves you can see a little of the yellow of the shine sprite block.
Never 100%'d this back in this day but due to the addition of the reward for accomplishing it, I did and had a blast. My only wish is that the reward transferred to a new game or there were a new game+ feature so I could play through the game with it!
I think the golden badge should've been more than just gold... only because it overwrites the L and W badges. They could've made combinations for it: no badge = Mario L = Luigi W = Wario G = Golden L+W = Waluigi L+G = Silver W+G = ? L+W+G = ??? (Idk maybe some sort of shiny rainbow for all three?) which I know would be a little too much extra considering the gold badge is essentially the last thing you get and there's not really any game left to play with the extra skins, but still...
1:20 I did find that star piece on my first playthrough without a guide and without consulting Merluvlee, actually - went to all the places that still had star pieces (based on the map) and used Ms Mowz in every room till the map said 100%.
