    Being a mess steward for 17 years I witnessed a lot of “ High Spirits “ in Officers Mess’s across the UK,ASI & MPA..Wattisham was the best posting before 3 AAC took over..Miss watching the F-4 of 56,23,74 especially on night takeoffs.Reheat is awesome 🇬🇧👍

    Was quite a snap awakening going from ranks to officer , Cranwell was a bit straight laced and we were all pretty pleased to get away from there after Graduation was tough, not the training but the attitudes of those who wrongly assumed they had birthrights etc to attend !

      Something I missed doing. I tried to go from the ranks but too many superiors prevented it. Oh well, left and became a scientist Ph.D so no regrets other than the Mess would have been nice.

      I was about their age when it was filmed. Back then trying to look younger was more of a thing for people over 40. Young people tended to try to look a few years older than their age for various reasons.

      @@Mike-br8zt I was on Tornados in that era and never came across or heard of any non commissioned Navs, if there was, then it’s unlikely and aged Master would have been fit enough for a high performance roles.

      to be fair i do think there was a massive overreaction to that incident. it was an initiation that went a bit too far; they tend to do that. it wasnt *that* much mroe extreme than many uni sports team initaitions i heard of tho

      So like I said, where have you been on Ops with them (not in the same theatre) actually watching them so their job?
      To my mind there were thousands of fights in/out of both those theatres and not a single aircraft was shot down, given that preventing shoot downs is their No1 tasking I reckon that's pretty impressive.

Taleban didn’t have MANPADs weapon systems, so not much of a direct threat, SA won’t bring a plane out the sky with the stand off that existed there. Plenty of aircraft were destroyed whilst on the ground in bastion though. All because these mongs were down the naafi spinning shit dits or hiding in a corner.
