Today Krejcikova did to Swiatek exactly the same which Rybakina did in Australian Open! She played in fearless, strong and beautiful way. This is how the WTA players should play against Iga to put her under pressure and we, the fans to get excited! Sad for Iga, but big congrats to the champion Barbora Krejcikova! Defeating the top 3 players in same tournament is something else!

Congratulation to Barbora! The way she dismantled Iga in the 2nd set was a thing of beauty. This is what I'm talking about. Iga cannot win every tournaments easily, or it will be boring. The WTA needs rivalries to make things interesting. And I'm looking at Barbora, Rybakina and Sabalenka to bring those rivalries against Iga, but they will need to be consistent tho. I'm also looking forward to see what the teenagers like Coco Gauff, Linda Noskova and Linda Fruhvirtova will bring to the table once their game will be fully developed and they improve their weaknesses. She herself was far from her best, or how else do you explain a 7 winners to 13 UEs ratio in set 1 alone? Yet, she still handled Iga with ease, never being in any danger of losing a set, let alone the match. That really tells you how darn effective her game is against Iga.

Barbora’s return was the difference today. She has such a great all round game, such a skilful player and I’m not sure if any active WTA player has won more slams than her in the singles and doubles. Not only serve is her weakness but forhand at some point as well.. When she plays against players who hit forhand flat and powerfull like Ostapenko she is very often late because of her big swing . Also she hits ball very close to the body on forhand side that gives her much less power with forhand to forhand shots... Iga has very long swings thus struggles with players who take balls early, for the same reason she cannot play at her usual level on grass. Barbora, smartly so, uses that to her advantage (and of course also has the tools to do it).

    • @ikarirm

i dont think, so in the sense that her swing is fairly compact and remains quite close to her body througout. Her usual gameplan is to hug the baseline without ceding an inch (similar to Caroline) and she didnt really change her style. Iga's antiticipation and footwork is usually spot-on against 90% of the WTA but she struggled in this match because she couldnt deal with the disguised change of direction or extreme angles hit by Barbs. For grass, her forehand grip is too extreme to deal with low bouncing and fast dipping shots consistently without breaking down.
