Prior to the New York City stop of the tour on January 10th at Webster Hall, we had the chance to converse with Erik Danielsson of WATAIN. During our EXCLUSIVE interview, which you can watch below, we conversed with Erik about TMZ's coverage of the band's concert in Brooklyn, New York last year and the consequences the story had for his band. We also talked to him about his musical roots by asking about his very first mix tape and how seeing METALLICA as a teenager changed his life forever!

I think, with a few exceptions, the direction American metal is going will bring more and more to Sweden and Norway for REAL extreme music.

Can you write a song called "Waters Of Ain" that is post 12 min in length with multiple tempo shifts and dramatic minor key changes and so intricate it takes the knowledge of a seasoned musician to pen that kind of material!? That takes a musician to know what he or she's doing to even go there...in that territory!? Get a head-check dude. In your mind maybe it's boring but ... You don't even know what Black Metal is. If you did ---if you REALLY did--you would have a different comment. Do BM artists make boring music for you?? Not in the minds of thousands of fan globally pal. hahahaha >:)

I am a musician, smart guy, hence my remarks about Black Metal. I've played with Watain, and they were nothing but a bunch of douchebags who got upset because the venue wouldn't let them throw rotten blood on the crowd. Cephalic Carnage trolled them gloriously onstage and made Watain look like a bunch of idiots. If you want intricate tempo shifts and long songs, then direct your attention to the tech and progressive scene. Bands like Archspire, Beyond Creation, Canvas Solaris, Animals as Leaders, Dream Theater, Haken...Their song writing skills run circles around these guys.

those bands are sick as fuck, but american metal is just as good man, theres such a variety its amazing
there are some great american metal bands, testament / exodus/ slayer/ dark task{ my thing}, but for the most part you are rite, most of what is being called metal in america is more like pop music with distortion and double bass, suck shit, the good stuff comes out of scandinavia
Lukelr I would actually consider Watain, Behemoth, and Beherit relatively mild in comparison to MOST of the los angeles based black metal bands alone.

I am happy with who I am. I really didn't want this to go into religion and bashing other's simply because this is music. This may sound a bit naive but music is supposed to unite people. I've been to many different genres of metal shows and met lots of people from different backgrounds and we all got along fine. I won't get baited into a conversation on putting religions down
