    Hi Kevin. I enjoy your no nonsense videos. We have a 2007 TXT with 1025 hours that just about makes us pass out from the exhaust fumes. It smells horrible. In the summer we put the windshield down to make sure there's a breeze to get rid of the fumes. Last spring I adjusted the valves, changed the oil, replaced the plugs, fuel & air filter, and replaced the carburetor to no avail. We don't drive it all that often, but today I drove my son to the bus-stop about 20 minutes away and by the time I got home, I was delirious from the fumes. I've checked for exhaust leaks at the engine and it appears to be fine. It occasionally backfires on the down-hill. It starts easily and seems to go down the road fine. I'm going to check the valves again and try to make a tail-pipe off the muffler to try to direct the exhaust out the back. It's gotten to the point where we don't even want to drive it anymore. Any suggestions other than a engine swap?

    another great video so well explained.One of the greatest things from your videos is the milwaukee power wrench. Your using it so freely made me go out and buy one and although it won't be used daily it will surely save my wrist and arms. By the way I'll trade you temperatures as we are at -5 C or about 22F. All your videos are helpful even to showing why not to use gasket maker especially around gas. Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and see you in the new year.

If you ever decide to do a tear down I would kove to watch because we have a cart that is burning oil... I'm sure it needs a ring job. If you are ever in Vermont give me a shout.. Just an "OLD" Vermonter trying to help keep golf carts afloat.....

      If its smoking while running, then its a good chance it needs a rebuild. If it only smokes when started and clears up, its probably valve guide seals.

Would this be the governor working against the engine.? Your thoughts, please. Hoping this explains it well enough.

    HI Kevin. Do you have any vid's (or can you make one) that discusses how to follow and diagnose electrical issues (ohm testing) from the battery through all the micro switches then on to the pulse coil and ignition coil? Also is there a vid on changing out a pulse coil or how to tell if your starter/generator is bad? I'm working on one of these carts for a Monastery here in southern Arizona and it was running but now its a no start. Going to do a comp test and adj valves tomorrow. Thanks for any tips.

    hey kevin when reringing a 2002 st 350 engine is it common to have to bore the cylinders or just hone them? ive not torn mine down yet but im getting smoking and low compression. thx for your videos. very helpful.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 года назад +1

      That will depend on how badly the cylinders are wore. They need to be checked with a micrometer and be within a certain spec. If they are outside of that spec, then they need to be bored. I don't have the exact numbers right at the moment but you should be able to google the specs. depending on the year, if its running the 2 cylinder robin engine, its probably in need of a valve adjustment and bad valve guides.

    Hi Kevin, I'm about to pull my hair out. My cart is a 2001 Ezgo. The problem I'm having is it will not start after backing down an incline. It will start fine in my garage or on my trailer and as long as I keep it in reverse and not stop it will keep running. I can smell fuel when this happens ( after backing down the incline ) As soon as I stop and put it in forward it will not start again. After waiting for 5-10 minutes it will start again and it will run all day without a problem, forward or reverse. I'm not a mechanic but a retired Lineman but try to fix what I can ( And yes,like you I use my klein's for a lot of things :) ) What iI have done to try and correct this problem. 1. replaced the carb ( aftermarket ) That was after soaking,cleaning all the jets and blowing out with compressed air. No change so I replaced it. 2 replaced the fuel pump. 3 Replaced all fuel lines 4 Replaced the fuel filter 5 Replaced the air filter. The choke and throttle cable seem to be working fine. After watching your video my next step is adjusting the valves ? I hope you have some idea where the problem is other than between my ears. My next purchase my be some C-4 Any will be much appreciated --

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 года назад +1

      This is one of those issues that you can chase forever and it will get REAL annoying REAL quick. I feel your pain and frustration with this. I would start with adjusting the valves and see if that helps. It sounds like a bit of fuel dumping into the intake when you back down a decline. You may have to take the carb apart and see if the float has a metal plate under the needle valve (float valve). If it does, you can manipulate that plate by bending it to make the needle valve close sooner to keep less fuel in the carb. It would only need to be tiny adjustments. I'm willing to bet that its all plastic crap inside the carb with nothing to adjust. These should be able to back down a steep hill and run fine. Another thing to check is all of the cables and wires. I know it sounds strange, but I've had carts that wouldn't run if there were at a certain angle due to a wire being lose or shoring out.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 года назад +1

      I would do a compression test and adjust the valves first. Loss of compression due to the valves being out of spec will cause loss of power and acceleration. If that checks out, throttle cables could be sticking and not allowing the full range of motion. I would replace any cables that are sticking or stretched. Make sure the air filters is nice and clean as well.

      Sounds like the brushes in the starter generator are the problem. Plenty of videos on that very problem. Bushes aren’t that hard to replace after removing the starter.. You can try tapping the starter generator or change the position of the armature in the starter by turning the belt between the starter and the engine.

      Yeah, if you want to pay stupid money for a simple carb, you can order it from EZGO. I'm a RHOX dealer so I get most of my parts from Red Hawk. You can search for EZGO carb 17565 and find it from other retailers for way less. Its a similar carb to the one I use.

      @@Kevinsgolfcarts Kevin thanks for your reply on the carb but need to ask another question. What would cause the starter/generator to load up but not turn the engine over sometimes when depressing the accelerator pedal. I keep the battery on a maintenance charger when in the garage and the battery is putting out 12.5 volts according to a dash mounted voltage gauge. Oh and I checked the brushes on the starter generator and they’re good. It’s been doing this for quite a while and sometimes it acts like it’s not gonna start. I have to feather the pedal several times to overcome it. Appreciate your consideration and look forward to your answer thanks, Steve H

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  3 года назад

      Those earlier EZGOs with the FJ400 had whimpy starter/generators for the larger displacement of the FJ400. If its the stock, original one, it maybe getting a bit tired. It takes a lot of juice to roll over the compression stroke. A battery maintainer should hold the battery around 12.8, depending on the battery you have installed. The better built maintainers do a better job so if you have one of those crappy horrible freight ones, get a better one like BatteryTender.

Like I said I removed a rubber access on the top of the starter generator and the one brush I was able to inspect had plenty of surface above the wear line so I assume the others would be the same. If there’s no adjustment on cables or carb to help then I guess I’ll just keep the battery fresh and rock on. Thanks again sir

      Clutches will typically cause torque and speed issues while driving with a well running engine. Engine issues will cause the engine to not run and perform to its max. A compression test will tell a lot of the condition of the engine. You have a 92 and the engine is probably wore out if it has never been rebuilt.
