I don't remember what I was looking up to find this, but I once stumbled upon an article about baseball and Fallout 4. I guess it was a Boston based site, and it talked about the "inconsistency" of the game with real life because Diamond City displayed retired numbers that aren't actually retired by the Red Sox, and omits some other ones that are really retired. The kicker was that they kind of barraged the game for "not caring about doing some basic research" or something to that effect, which absolutely slayed me with the irony. The numbers that are retired irl but not in the game, and likewise the ones that are there in-game but not real life, were all numbers retired post-WWII, the rough point where the real world and Fallout universe diverged.
I mean, there is no "rough time frame" for when the divergence happened, different devs have said it happened in 1924, ww2, the 50s and even the 70s, nobody knows when or what diverged, the common fallout didn't invent transistors theory is probably false as there are transistor radios in every fallout and transistor circuits in all Bethesda fallout. What was soft confirmed is that its a soft divergence with small differences over a long period that led to a larger divide over time.
The original Super Bowl idea was the two major league teams putting their championship teams head to head, the NFL vs the AFL. It’s possible in the fallout timeline that there was never a merger of leagues which would mean more teams from more cities as each league expanded
The fact that there are still basketballs in the world would imply that people are still playing and making balls bc the rubber used in basketballs will fully decompose after 50-75 years
My personal favorite wasteland sport is raider ragdoll. The aim of the game is to get a collateral with the body of another using a rocket launcher or something similar
I like to think moes discription of baseball in fo 4 is NOT a joke. that would be metal as hell. Considering power armor really did exsit in the fo 4 universe this is 100% possible that he was not kidding.
They have pool tables, cue sticks and pool balls. And some might consider cards like blackjack or caravan(a game I still don’t get after 12 years of trying)a sport.
Super Mutant suicider spikes the ball and gets a touchdown if he kills you. Good football reference. The real reason for FEV, to make better football players.
What can be better than watching two mountains of flesh give each other brain damage fighting over a ball? Watching two bigger, greener mountains of flesh give each other brain damage fighting over a ball.
I remember the first time I clicked on the dialogue option to correct Moe about baseball and did not at all realize how mean my character would be about it… I just wanted to politely tell him the truth of baseball…
saddly since the main charictor is from pre war theres no doubt moe is wrong. In the orginal consept for the game though EVERYTHING was supose to be more veauge. So In that version moe may have not been jokeing. I do love that you can casualy say it was even MORE violent though :p
Hey Norte! Have you ever talked about what kinds of characters you play? Like do you prefer guns or melee? Energy or ballistics? Heavy or light? Power armor?
You seem to have missed the fo4 boxing event in Atomic Galleria. You can box against a Mr Handy called "The Champ". There's also a boxing ring in a small area behind a door just behind Old North Church, but there's no one there.
Its Mr. New Vegas here, you're no one till someone loves you. Never laugh at a super mutant riding the bunny slope. This segment brought to you by the silver rush.
It also seems like Super Bowls started 3 years before our own time line….. idk what that info means but 2075 is 53 years away and we are only on the 56th Super Bowl
For the Super-Bowl (and other sports), you gotta consider Chems. Nothing is against the rules until it is, and even then it only matters if you get caught. Think Jose Canseco, mark McGwire, and Barry Bonds from mlb.
I'm guessing that raiders who adopted the rules of baseball and used the Diamond as an arena are the inspiration behind Moe's deluded interpretation of baseball. It's sad that this isn't elaborated in the story, but it makes sense seeing as there are decades of potential history before Diamond City was civilized.
The greatest sporting mystery in Fallout is what's not there. Zero evidence of the Boston Garden ever having existed even though basketball and hockey clearly exist and the actual building would've existed in time. Also it's wild that Bill Buckner existed in Fallout too
my favorite sport in fallout 4 is something i like to call "pain train pummel"- use pain train to richochet someone off a wall and floor em with a melee weapon on the rebound! if you can connect a solid strike to the midsection, you win! extra points if you can kill them with the rebound strike, even more if they explode
"I think I'd be difficult to play hockey without defense" man the leafs do it every year...and I think you're right since it's been 70 years since a cup 🤣
5:17 on Football, it’s possible that chems were involved for the scores. Since it seems like unlike our world, chems we’re acceptable in every day life.
I don't recall any mention of American Football in Fallout, obviously there's a big nod towards baseball in 4 but maybe in a future Fallout we could see a similar city set inside a football stadium, again with their own take on how it was actually played.
You waiting on the other shoe to drop on the cowboys too? Best season we've had in years and I'm still not sure I'm not dead because of how amazing they're doing. It's odd since our last good season was the early 90s, and I never thought I'd see it again.
Technically In hockey rules, goalies are their own separate entity. Me and my dad always used to joke that the goalies on my teams weren’t actually players lol
I dont know if it should count, because it's not that phisical but racing was apparently more or less important in pre war America both with vehicles and animals. In fo4 you have those cool hot Rod magazines wich indicates that the pre war América loved cars and race, also in fo 4 its that circuit of robots wich in pre war maybe was used by dogs or horses "horses if that part of the map was scaled down like everything in thebnew fo,s". In fallout 3 we have some instances of racing like a nuclear harley under the White house sewers in wich the driver died. In New Vegas we have some circuits on the desert and dry lake drag races also. And that's all I think, oh we have if I not miss remember this tennis also? But yep racing was a thing.
So, according to Moe you were legally required to beat each other to death after work. Seems like that sport would run into issues filling roster spots pretty quickly.
In reference to the football park. More than likely they had to make up teams because the NFL would have charged way too much for the developers to put recognized teams in there. Besides it adds more to the lower in my opinion.
I know its not related too the topic, but i love that you play fallout like i do, i use vats too locate enemys but never use it too acctualy shoot lolm
I would like a fallout set in Illinois the 2 baseball teams in one state would make for a interesting formula and they could throw in a joke to back to the future seeing how most of the developers like throwing gag Easter eggs just as much as scary ones
I don't get why they picked "Texas" and not, you know, the Cubs. It would have been hilarious that it was both teams had their respective streaks without a World Series and October 23rd 2077 was, somehow, Game 7
What irritates me most about sport in Fallout is how *nonexistent* motorsport is. I really don't have any hint of 'care' in me about ballsports, but I'm into pretty much any motorsport that hasn't been fucked over by the governing body, and it pains me to see how little representation motorsport gets in Fallout. Off hand, all I can think of? * Junk item 'toy race car' * Ivanpah dry lake bed has a small oval track in it * Hot Rodder magazine exists And that's it. No derelict race cars in garages anywhere. No literature lying around covering motorsport. No speed shops. Not even any evidence of people racing Corvegas shortly after the nukes fell because why the fuck not!? Just nothing. It's like motorsport just did not exist in any meaningful capacity in 2077.
About that baseball thing, it seems to be simmilar to the Roman Gadiator games. These where MMA's evereyone in Rome and other major cities could attend. Unfortunately Christian propagandists ran with it and stigmatised it as a blood sport. Whilst it shurely was wilder then that which is conciddered ethical today, the intent was to defeat the oponent, not kill. And we have plenty of historical records showing retired gladiators being hired as bodyguards. ~If it truly was a blood sport, how come gladiators would retire?~

Joe Montana is not the goat and thats not even a debate anymore. Brady has 7 rings, which is 3 more than Montana and 1 more than any franchise has in all of nfl history.
I don't remember what I was looking up to find this, but I once stumbled upon an article about baseball and Fallout 4. I honestly love the way the diamond city security act... There just so natural.

2:05 as a ball hockey goalie myself, I can tell you I've played multiple games without defensemen.
The fact that there are still basketballs in the world would imply that people are still playing and making balls bc the rubber used in basketballs will fully decompose after 50-75 years
they’re also all fully inflated despite possibly rolling around for like 200 years
Well, either that or they're made from another material. I imagine rubber would be pretty scarce due to the war.

The Jets getting kicked out on NY sounds like a dream.
As a sports and fallout fan I absolutely love that you covered this and did it with complete accuracy. thank you
love the little dig at football equipment when talking about the legion lmao Tua thanks you
The high score are made possible due to wide spread use pf buffout....probably.
Nice video! I’ve never really thought about the sports of Fallout, they where kind of just a background thing. But thanks for the information!
Always good to see that there’s more to do in the wastes than just poaching mutated wildlife!
Speaking of running the bases, isn't there an achievement in 4 for running them in DC?
Ya, strangely a rare achievement on steam
reminds me of a game i recently thought of, you play hokey with an electrical hokey bat and you can charge it up to fire high pressure shots

These fallout videos are much better than the number 15 Burger King foot lettuce videos you used to do
Skydiving is also confirmed in New Vegas, forgot the name of the place but it's right outside goodsprings by Ringo's caravan.
