    I think that the flares scaring off abominations is a reference to some Monster movies like Peter Jackson's King Kong or Alien. As in King Kong,a flare was used to scare off giant insects during the pit sequence. And in Alien,they used flamethrowers to try and scare off the xenomorph.

    Oddly enough, you don't need a perfectly straight barrel for the projectile to fly out of the end. Makes sense since it'll go the path of least resistance. And if the barrel is thick enough to just bounce the projectile if it hits the side a bit. Kinda like how if you throw a punch and someone hits your arm to the side, it'll deviate off path a bit.

    Coincidental that you mentioned: "Finding Meaning when there is None" because I think the Developers are quite aware that fans and players will make their own meanings to things even if they didn't intend on it.
    Mostly this is due to Santiago, the artist Robobrain at Vault 118 in Far Harbor, as he says that it is remarkable that people find meaning in his art where none was intended, if you choose and pass the speech check when discussing his "Kitten with a Toy Rocket" painting, as he didn't put much effort in it and shipped it off as a commercial product that later became his most sold piece.

    According to ingame notes, the Vertibird signal flare emits a smoke which is laden with some kind of electromagnetic tracer element. This will be picked up by sensors, and allow the 'Bird to find the location.
    This seems like a really complicated system, particularly considering the availability of "Distress Pulsers", the portable distress radio beacons used by the BoS.
    It would make more sense to me if summoning a Vertibird was done by throwing a "grenade" form of Distress Pulsers. In terms of game mechanics, it could have the exact same effect.
    If a visual indicator is wanted, a red, blinking light is pretty much as useful as a pillar of smoke, and might even have less impact on game performance.

    • @aaronblacke6425
      @aaronblacke6425 Год назад +11

      Tbh it is just the tech that is overly complicated but once you have it , it is safe and simple. Alot of random wastelanders could call a vertibird if you use just regular flares, grenades, etc. A distress beacon would be obvious and if a enemy finds it could easily come up with a plan using it aswell as let the enemy know you are working with advanced technology. What the brotherhood has is covert and distinct to their alert systems. The crazy part is the tech kinda actually exists. I work in construction and Spray materials on surfaces. Their are spray pistols that actually magnetize the material to help it attract to surfaces. It's pretty much like everyother spray pistol the difference is the magnetize one cost like 10k starting price

    • @patrikhjorth3291
      @patrikhjorth3291 Год назад +1

      @@aaronblacke6425 Thank you for responding, I didn't know about that kind of advanced spray painting technology.
      I would still argue that the "tracer smoke" is more complicated than the distress pulser, though.
      The distress pulser is a known technology, already in widespread use by BoS teams as shown in a particular quest in the game. They could be made resistant to tampering by requiring a code, or even biometrics, to operate.
      To have a _smoke flare_ emit a traceable electromagnetic signal that can be picked up far enough away that a Vertibird can be sent to its location... that's just redundant, not to mention just as sensitive to tampering as a distress pulser, if not more so.
      And yes, I know I'm talking about "realism" in a game that features super mutants, but I think the "magical smoke flare" is less consistent with the worldbuilding.

    • @FracturedPixels
      @FracturedPixels Год назад +2

    • @StupidIsMyJob
      @StupidIsMyJob Месяц назад

      If anything, I'd like to imagine that the vertibird grenade is a two-in-one item, with the "EM frequency" or whatever being for long range uses only, given sophisticated equipment in Fallout can take up entire rooms if not thought out enough, and the smoke is a short-range visual indicator for pilots when they come into view.
      Because being given orders via radio about a long-range frequency, and basically flying blind the *entire* way isn't the most efficient. It's better to signal, the grenade autobroadcasts a particular quadrant, then pilots nav the last few thousand feet, especially if you end up calling for a ride in a city like Boston.

      It seems clear that the idea of _Lonesome Road,_ effective or not, is that you _are_ setting off some sort of "pocket nuke" warhead and repeating the great sin of the Old World. Key to that DLC is how, unlike the three other DLCs for _New Vegas,_ you can just turn around and go back to the Mojave the way you came in. You have to choose to walk the Road, and to walk it, you have to nuke it. That leads, or _tries_ to lead, to the decision at its end.

      @jmdesertadventures803 Год назад +1

      @Shizonrhu sure go attach a slingshot to a caulking gun and pull the trigger to fire it. The rod slides free with no pressure on the trigger, but when you pull it, the trigger binds on the rod and forces it forward to squeeze the tube. Like I said the trick would be getting the trigger to bind until you pull it, then the rod slides free. I agree that the caulking gun would work I'm just hoping by drawing out the comments I might get ideas for one in IRL. (EDIT) You could modify the trigger to just let the rod slide free anyway and make a sear to grab the disk on the front of the rod.

    My buddy and I are big into firearms, and we built a pipe gun. Of course, the hardest part is the receiver, which we just used a rifle’s receiver and made the pipe gun around it.
    A couple things to note: a pipe “rifle” is a contradiction in terms, essentially, as the pipe has no rifling. It’s essentially a smooth bore musket. Our pipe gun was chambered in .32, and was ridiculously inaccurate. It also had a very short shelf life, particularly the pipe. While we used steel rigid pipe, the heat and gas from firing (as well as the bullet striking the pipe interior laterally) warped the pipe to an unsafe degree after only 10 shots. Even before this, escaping gas and heat made wearing gloves and safety glasses mandatory.
    The bullet has no twist, and because the pipe is not machined to perfect diameter, the bullet was “rattling” down the pipe. Imagine throwing a tennis ball down a pipe that is just a bit larger than the ball. We initially shot for 20 yards, and you could hit RoP right on one shot and completely miss bottom left the next. Additionally, we lost so much speed in the pipe that the bullet would sometimes fail to puncture the 1/2 plywood the target was on. The pipe also was so light that keeping the firearm level was challenging and irritating, making aiming take longer. Not good if you’re relying on this weapon for personal defense.
    Pipe weapons like this are next to useless at any kind of range. They could perhaps be useful in CQC, where aim doesn’t matter.

    30:00 ~ when your talking about the rate of fire of a nailgun, the fun part is either the PC or workers must have modified these nailguns, because a standard nailgun has a trigger plate on the front as well as the trigger on the grip. The rate of fire is actually accurate, because the nail is *usually* only triggered to be fired by pressing it against the board while pulling the trigger, which is done in a swift stamping motion, and if the trigger plate is held down or modified, nothing is stopping the nailgun from dumping its nails as fast as nailgun-ly possible.

    I’m so glad the local gangs didn’t find the project cobalt notes. If they found out how to weaponize nuka cola quantum with squirt guns, they’d have tried to find the recipe and dominated.
    Also, HUGE FAN of the railway rifle lol
