      @trailrunnah8886 3 года назад +6

      I belong to a lot of 4Runner groups, and not a lot of people seem to have good things to say about those tires, even though they're standard equipment on the TRD Pro. I recently put a set of General Grabber ATX on my 2013 Trail, and I mostly like them. I went with the stock size, and the P rated load range. The one downside is that I lost a solid 2.5 MPG vs the stock Bridgestone Dueler HTS. I was getting pretty consistently 20.0- 20.5, now I'm sitting right around 17.5. Pretty disappointed in that, I specifically went with the stock size and load range in order to preserve MPG, but even in the stock size these tires to look beefier than the stockers, and they're definitely more aggressive which I guess translates to more rolling resistance.
      On the plus side, they tend to ride smooth, are quiet, and are good in the rain and and some slushy snow that we recently had.
      For the most part I really like them, however the loss of range is what irritates me. Not so much concerned about the additional fuel costs, it's just having to fill up 50 miles earlier it's kind of annoying. That's almost a full trip back and forth to work for me.
      If I were to do it again, I would look into the Toyo AT3, the Cooper AT3 4S, and the Continental Terrain Contact AT. Those are all slightly less aggressive tires that will probably be just as good off road while maybe being a little bit more fuel efficient. That's just a guess, no facts behind that assumption.

      I got a set of BF KO2 for LX470 thru Costco, sometimes they run a promo about $150 off for a whole set, basically ‘free’ installation, if you’re installing non OEM size, Costco won’t install those tires, they refund a ‘installation” fee then I went to Firestone and got those tires installed, love the KO2 really soft, not much tire noise at all, I found it’s more comfortable than the previous Michelin street tires, congrats on your 4runner

    As a person that consistently makes standout reviews testing the AWD/4WD drivetrains and automatic transmission vs CVT systems; I think it speaks volumes that you chose this beautiful Toyota 4Runner with a 4WD automatic transmission.
    My family really wanted to get a Toyota 4Runner too. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t in the cards, Grandpa and Grandma are getting older, gas mileage and third row seating comfort are king, AWD is only second. The 5 seat 4Runner’s front fascia looks cooler than the 7 seater’s front end personally. Jeep Wranglers and Toyota 4Runners are so fun, without a doubt. AWD Toyota Highlanders and Honda Pilots just fit the bill.

    Great and informative review. I owned a 2017 4Runner and would say that it’s the best SUV made. I don’t know why the reviews are normally so hard on it. It’s not a CUV so it shouldn’t be in that category. It drives great for a truck based suv. CUV are just too car like for me. It can go anywhere and accommodate just about anything. You are spot on in saying that this is the benchmark of a true SUV. Thank you and great work.

    Fantastic no nonsense video on the capabilities of the 4Runner. I have a 2022 TRD ORP, my second 4Runner, and it is fantastic. The TRD Pro would have been $10K more in my area, not worth it. I agree the TRD OR is the best of all the options. I also have the big brother, a 2020 Landcruiser, and I can honestly say, I enjoy driving the 4Runner as much as or maybe a little more than the LC. As soon as Toyota messes up the next generation 4Runner by going with a 4 cylinder turbo engine and made in Mexico, the current generation 4Runners will be elevated to Landcruiser status. NOTE: The Bronco Sport is a Focus, the biggest name scam in the auto world, calling that vehicle a "Bronco"

Fulltime 4WD like you see in the 4Runner Limited, or the Jeep Grand Cherokee, or Land Rover's many vehicles is just better. So when you go from better to just fine, that is in a sense going backwards. I have had both and it is just better. I am a fan of part-time as well, but having that full-time option is nice if you let someone else drive your 4Runner, who might not necessarily know how or when to shift in and out of four wheel drive in a purely part-time system. So if say your wife takes it when the weather is sketchy, just put it in 4wd full-time and not think about it.
