    9 years later this video saved me from losing my mind, the instructions for the relay were wrong but your video helped out a lot, thanks for posting it my man.

    This is the best video in RUclips about changing the original hint fir an aftermarket one.
    Thanks, I'll install the same thing in my Mazda 3/protege

    Pretty good video on how to change the horns. I changed two things: 1. Those two plastic tabs that need to be manipulated with a screwdriver are easier to remove by going behind on the inside (toward the engine) and using a screwdriver to push the stem's plastic barb back towards the stem while pulling out on the grill. 2. The existing horn is bolted to an "L" bracket. Remove that "L" bracket's bolt, pull out horn, bolt new horns to "L" bracket using new flat brackets and then reinstall.

    Very nice "walk through", of installing an aftermarket horn. Especially, for those of us, who may be "technically challenged" so to speak.

    Picked up the Fiamms and installed today. (The cube's factory horn is woefully inadequate.) Out of curiosity, tried skipping the relay, and it did blow the factory fuse (factory relay is 15 amp, fuse is 10 amp), so there ya go. I noticed some of the horn kits only include a 4 tab relay unlike the video, but you can just split the 87 to both horns. I found a nice weather-proof in-line fuse that uses factory style mini fuses instead of the glass ones (and used a 25 amp fuse for it), and i was worried about corrosion on the connections, so i used some heat shrink tubing.
    (p.s. you can hear sound files of the horns on Fiamm's website)
    Thx for the video.

    Very thorough. Thanks! Using the same horn on my Nissan Leaf. Same procedure except the grill removal is not necessary for a Leaf.

    Thanks for the video, just installed some Hella Supertones using your video. Although I didn't know what to do with the negative wire from the horn switch, so i wrapped it in electrical tape and left it there. :D

    I have the same car, It is awesome no problems at all 140 000 miles runs like new. I flush all the fluids, change all filters, changed all spark plugs and spark plug wires. Ceramic brake pads. Go to a great mechanic and have them do a 3 step fuel fuel injection cleaning service. Make sure they use BG products. It gets rid of all carbon build up The car roars now. Also use royal purple engine oil it is better then mobil 1 one oil. It drives like a race car now!!!! Also use Trico Titan wipers they work the best. I also change the serpentine belt every 80 000 miles just to be safe and i use royal purple oil filter great quality!

    Could you explain more about the wiring? Where did you connect the original one? Did not see where, because of your hands! Thank you!

    First part of the video was great. Nice step-by-step as well as explanation. Can't say the same for the second part, though. Couldn't you just remove the bumper? The part where you fish things out with one hand while prying the plastic off with the other is just painful to watch.

    Great video. where do you attach relay? anywhere? i cant just plug new horn into old existing horn wires? nice watch.

    @Ernesto1296 Some relays have different pinouts.... The wire that goes to the original horn goes to one side of the relay coil, the other to ground. There is no polarity issues.
    Any errors in wiring will either mean thet horn doesn't work, honks unless the horn button is pushed, or honks regardless.

    @grnbrgb blind spots, both front and rear. The floor of the cargo area is not level with the rear door sill. (Although you can get an organizer that fits in the space and makes it level. And lastly, having just put it through a nice Canadian winter... If you run it through a car wash in freezing temperatures, the latch mechanism for the rear door freezes. The lock works, and the handle moves, but the door is *shut* until it thaws.
    PS: The new plates on the car read "BORG". :D

    Thanks :)

    I didn't quite understand why you didn't prop out that front piece with a stick or something so that it made it easier to work in the confined space instead of fighting it all the time as you worked in swapping out the horn and relay. You seemed to fight that piece throughout the entire video.

    @RustyXIII Heh. It was painful to do. I'm not a car guy, and while the service manual (that can be found online) suggests removing the rest of the bumper and grill, it was more than I was confident doing. Your mileage may vary. :)
    I will point out to anyone following this, that my life got *much* easier when I removed the hood latch. I struggled to get the horns bolted for over an hour. Once I pulled the latch off, it took 10 minutes.

    Hi there, i installed the same horn in my cube and everything worked fine for about 2 weeks, when suddenly it stopped working--i checked the horn fuse and it's good i'm in the process of getting a new relay (existing stock relay) but would you know what else could be wrong i got a feeling it may not be the relay...thanks for any help!

  • @grnbrg
    @grnbrg  13 лет назад

    @eCigslounge If the fuse is good (both the inline fuse (if installed) and the original fuse) I'd try connecting the horn directly to the battery first.
    The El Grande horn *should* be ok on the stock fuse and relay, but it's better to isolate it with it's own fuse and relay to be safe.

    @MotoRAZRV9 Overall, it's a nice vehicle, and after driving it for 6 months, I'm not regretting the purchase at all.
    Pros: These are easy to find online -- vast amount of headroom, nice, tight turning radius and the keyless ignition is /really/ cool.
    Cons: A few, from my point of view... Everyone raves about how good the visibility is. The visibility sucks. I moved from a Saturn station wagon, and the site lines from the Cube are horrible in comparison. There are a number of (...)

    Heyy i got the same horn and i would like to know is it a must to insert the relay. I mean why not just remove the original horn and insert the new one ???

  • @TriskaidekaPunk
    @TriskaidekaPunk 4 года назад

    I know this is old, but you didn't wire it correct. 30 to 87a is always on then when relay is energized it sends power to 87 so 87a is dead, your wiring makes only one horn work. Just heads up for those watching.

    The Cube only has a single (high note?) horn. How would you plug it to a car that has doual horn? Each horn has two connectors but the El GRande only has one on each horn. i want to upgrade my stock horn :) You can check my videos to know why!
    Thanks for the answer mate!

    I'll just remove the bumper cover on mine to install my PIAAs. I don't have the patience to stuff them behind there and want to spare the neighbors the NC-17 language. :)
