Love this update of the "how to go faster" video ,and i have some awesome builds i did to some traxxas models that i wish i could put effort in to posting.
I am set on 31/76 gearing with my 3800 KV Castle Creations SCT edition short course 2wd high center gravity Slash. The Slash is one of the best Traxxas you guys always hitting home runs.
I remember back in the day brushed motors where able to see 50mph now it way slower. Makes me wonder what happened. But then run time was only like 15min at the most
I put proline 2.8 trenchers on my old 4x4 Slash slapped a monster fusion body , it runs like a beast. I also have a new Slash 4x4 ultimate too. I stripped the telemetry and put it on my UDR. Still pondering switching the OBA to the udr. Not much room for it
Not necessarily. Upgrading from a NiMH battery to a LiPo battery can give you a boost in power. Also, having a good set of tires optimized for where you drive will allow you to put more of your power to the ground effectively. In addition, changing the gearing can also give you more speed (just make sure to watch your motor temps).
No. The gearing shown here is only for speed runs on flat surfaces...The video states this somewhere towards the beginning. For bashing use the original 13t set up for overall health of the components.
We did the budget version of this we bought some cheap Monster tires a cheap brushless 9 turn motor and left the gearing alone we probably only spend about 60 bucks in total
If you mean control as in the speed controller, then yes you do have to swap it. If you mean control as in the transmitter, then no, you can keep using what you have.
I ran a 35t pinion 76t spur with a 9.6v traxxas series 5 Nimh with a SCT3800 and hit a whopping 58mph. Could have possibly gotten a little faster. At those speeds it was feather light in the front.
I have two problems 1. I go to fast too speed op 120kmph 2. If I send it the motor mounts shift sideways away from the spur gear how can I fix problem 2??
The best I got is just make sure the motor mount screws are tight. Since these go into a metal motor can, you can be a little harder in tightening them versus plastic threads everywhere else.
If you want to get more power out of your battery, I would suggest going to a 2s LiPo battery. Even though 2s LiPo's have a lower nominal voltage, they can produce significantly more current than most NiMH batteries. Also, if you look around, you can find decent 2s LiPo batteries that cost even less than NiMH's.
Issac 17 what do you use, I’ve had that problem of heating if it’s warm out on 3s. I Can’t find a fan to cool it. I usually just run them both, let one cool down. I have two both 4x4. A monster slash and a regular ultimate version.
Traxxas or anyone, I need help! I have a Traxxas slash 2wd that I upgraded to brushless 3500 velenion and got a 11.1v 3s battery. After spending all that money my car only goes 38mph! Is that how it is or is there something wrong!
Make sure that your ESC is properly calibrated and that it's not in training mode (which limits throttle). Also check your driveline for any bearings that may be worn or seized. If that's good, change your gearing. The stock 16/90 gearing won't be enough for the advertised 65, even on 3s. Lastly, be sure to use a LiPo with a high C rating. That will ensure that the battery is able to handle the current that the motor is pulling.
Has anyone ran a 3S 11.1V 7000mAh 100C lipo on a stock rusty vxl or a 3S 11.1V 8000mah 100c... will the ESC handle it and if so how long will the run time be
You can run either of those 3s batteries in a Rustler VXL no problem. The motor system only takes whatever current it needs, and the C-rating of the battery indicates the battery's capability at delivering that current. Other than being harder on your wallet, running a higher C-rating is generally not a problem. My only concern though would be that those batteries may not fit in a 2WD Rustler. Regarding run time, that's going to vary based upon your vehicle's setup, how you drive, and the conditions where you drive. But for reference, my 2WD Rustler has a Castle Sidewinder SCT with a 3800kV motor geared at 16/90 and 2.2 inch Proline Trencher stadium truck tires. Using a 2s 5000mAh 50C LiPo, I usually get around 30 minutes of runtime driving on a mix of loose dirt and gravel.
“A Few Simple Upgrades” Typical traxxas marketing. All you have to do is remove the entire power system, spend a couple hundred bucks and double the cost of what you paid for the whole truck to begin with.

Man none of the power upgrades will be worth anything unless the part that puts the power to the ground will hold 🤣🤣💪👎stock rustler 4x4 don't last. I've broke less axels in my brushless tmaxx with stock tires not glued an open dif. But still love traxxas models.

I am set on 28/83 gearing with my 4000 KV Hobbywing and SC8 Speedcontroller 2wd slash with Extended Rustler chassis

what is the top speed with the stock gearing for the 3s brushless system?
Probably like 45 mph compared to 60 mph with the 25 tooth gearing
I would recommend changing the plastic gears to metal gears (servo.2075)

You may have to, some motor shafts are 5mm in diameter instead of a stock 3 mm

Stop upgrading the vxl without upgrading you tie rods, caster blocks, steering blocks, ect
