The song is a dedication/remembrance/tribute to three musicians that died in a plane wreck on February 3, 1959 those killed were Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper). The day the music died.. Buddy Holly was just recently married (the widowed bride).. that's why the song "gets dark" as you mentioned..
"Go rest high on that mountain" with a patriotic video will bring tears to your eyes. God bless the USA with Homefree, Lee Greenwood, and the US Air Force Singing Sergeants. Both are well worth reacting to.
You can listen to Mayday. You've already witnessed Tim Foust"s incredible vocal range which is also featured in Mayday. This rendition really gives all five guys and Don a chance to shine. Good choice. Thanks for this one. Do You Hear What I Hear is tremendous. Take care
@@matthines4748 Do you hear what I hear was arranged by Adam Rupp who definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer(no pun intended). The song has an eerie quality to it, that you don't normally hear in Christmas Music.
Adam Rupp (beat boxer/tenor) started the group in 2000 with his brother Chris Rupp (baritone) who left the group in 2016. Rob Lundquist (sweet tenor/beard & glasses) joined the group in 2008. Austin Brown (high tenor) and Tim Foust (bass with a 5 octave range) both joined the group in 2012. Adam Chance (hat guy/baritone-bass/goes by Chance since there was already an Adam) joined the group in 2016. Love your reactions❤
Your “He has range??!!” Had me chuckling 😄 ‘cause sweetie you ain’t heard nothing yet! Edited for a breakdown of the group. Official version: Beatboxer: Adam Rupp High tenor: Austin Brown Lead tenor: Rob Lundquist Baritone/bass: Adam Chance (goes by Chance to avoid confusion) Bass: Tim Foust However… all five of them can beatbox to some degree All five can sing in tenor range At least three can sing baritone And at least two can sing bass
Just wait til you hear his actual range cause when you guys do it's gonna blow your mind. If you wanna see his actual range. Tim and Austin have they're own channels also separate from home free where they do separate solo projects. Tim just released a song recently cover of "since I don't have you" you guys gotta check it out then you'll see his real range and it'll 🤯
Home Free and Don McLean recorded this for the 50th Anniversary tribute to Don's "American Pie". This song is one of the great masterpieces of the rock era and Home Free really did justice to this iconic classic.
Fantastic reaction ladies Don Mclain had asked Home Free to do this for the 50th anniversary of his song and even had them perform at his star celebration on the walk of fame.
Home Free doesn’t do covers, they do UPGRADES!! The beat boxer is Adam Rupp, he has won the world wide competition twice, he’s from Minnesota. Adam Chance (goes by “Chance” for less confusion), he’s the baritone/bass & covers bass when Tim sings lead, he’s the guy in the hat & he’s from lower Alabama. Austin Brown the is red head high tenor & he’s from southern Georgia but he was trained & can sing without his “twang”, when he needs to. Tim Foust is the super bassman, but has a 5 octave range & he is from southeast Texas. Rob Lundquist (glasses & beard) is the lead tenor and he is from Minnesota too. The guys do their own original songs besides covers. Tim & Austin write quite a few songs in collaboration with other friends. Their Christmas songs are not to be missed! You should check them out!!
Tim is a true basso profundo, but has a 5+ octave range (nearly 6..). Chance takes the bass line when he has lead. Don asked Home Free to do this collab with him for the song's 50th anniversary.
I loved your facial expressions. Not over the top. I saw it in the eyes 👀 when Tim started singing his verse. You had to control that urge to pause & exclaim “What?!” They all have amazing voices & vocal ranges but TIM 🤯. Once you listen to HF, you’re hooked.
Ladies, his name is Adam Chance. Now listen to "Some Girls do", and "Blue ain't your color". When Tim hits the higher notes, Chance picks up the baseline, and does it very well. Chance is from Alabama, Tim from Texas, Austin from Georgia, Adam Rupp and Rob Lundquist are from Minnesota.
One of the reasons i love Home Free so much, is that you always come away feeling good! Even their sad/emotional songs leave you feeling uplifted. They are just an amazing group of guys!
The fact that so many other performers want to sing with HF shows how amazing they are. But I think my favorite is Diana Ross who didn’t sing with them but asked them to perform at her 75th birthday. They had about four days notice but of course said yes. She had seen their video of Love Train.
A couple of other collabs they did are just as amazing - "Elvira" with the Oak Ridge Boys, "God Bless the USA" with Lee Greenwood and the US Air Force Band, and "Children Go Where I Send Thee" with Kenny Rogers, plus others. Home Free have an amazing repertoire that I look forward to you exploring!
I knew you'd love this version! Everyone was represented in this (Don, followed by Adam Chance (who does bass when Tim is singing solos), followed by Austin, followed by Rob, followed by Tim, with Don wrapping it up... all kept in time by the human drum kit, Adam Rupp - who also has an amazing tenor voice). One of the reasons for the "boxes" was that this was made during the pandemic and they were all separate. Another suggestion is Home Free's cover of the Crosby, Stills & Nash song "Helplessly Hoping". And to really get an example of Tim's 5 octave range, check out his solo of the Frankie Valley song "Will You Still Love Me / Stay"... you WILL be blown away! for Home Fee Christmas, I highly recommend "Mary Did You Know".
Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them. "American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.
At some point you just absolutely have to listen to Peter Hollens and Home Free collaborate with about 300 of their Patreon members during the covid lockdown doing the U2 song "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". It's amazing, It's mind blowing. Peter Hollens is great, Home Free is great but when that 300 member choir comes in, it's like Ear Candy Heaven. Great job as always ladies...Keep 'em coming!
Home Free has so many great songs to choose from that you could keep busy for several weeks listening to them all. I love their versions of "Woman, Amen / Female" (a mashup); Meet in the Middle (a great country hit); In the Blood; "Thinking Out Loud / Let's Get It On" (another mashup), and Ed Sheeran's Castle On The Hill. These are all stylistically different and give you a sense of their range.
One thing: While Tim was singing the high melody line, did you notice that the bass line continued on? That was Adam Chance. He's got some serious range too, and takes the bass parts when Tim sings up high.
The different segments with all of their different voices is something you never knew this song needed until you heard it. A couple of their songs you should hit are "How Great Thou Art" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain". And when you want something on the lighter side listen to "The Butts Remix"
The first Home Free singer Adam Chance is the guy who opened and closed Man of Constant Sorrow with his throat singing instrument sounds. He does a lot of instrument sounds and he sings bass when Tim sings lead. He generally sings baritone, but he can also sing tenor. Check out Can't Stop the Feeling where he joins in for an instrumental section.
It’s an older video but you REALLY need to hear their Do You Hear What I Hear. Chance isn’t in it. When it was recorded the beat boxer’s brother was still with the group. The song is not only a treat for your ears but the setting is simply visually stunning. It’s the whole package as a Christmas song.
If you want to hear more of Adam Chance (the first singer after McLean), I recommend Sea Chanty Medley (filmed during Covid), Winter Song, Castle on the Hill, and Brothers in Arms (in that you also get to hear Tim’s incredible low bass). Don’t miss their incredible Christmas songs! Do You Hear What I Hear (arranged by beatboxer Adam Rupp - with his brother Chris, who Chance replaced in 2016), O’ Holy Night, Full of Cheer, Cold Hard Cash, and so many more. You also shouldn’t miss How Great Thou Art.
Do you hear what I hear is an awesome one for Christmas. It has Chris their founder in it. He is Adam (beatboxers) brother and Chance took his place when he left the group. Adam arranged this song and it was filmed at an Ice Castle in Minnesota where Adam, Chris and Rob(beard & glasses) are from. You will love it. Thanks,Ladies!
My other 3 fellas are from the south. Tim, bass from Texas, Chance, baritone from Alabama, Austin, high tenor from Georgia. Each and every one of these fellas are all extremely talented. Thank you !! 🎼🎄🎶☃️🎵♥️
I'm a fairly recent Home Fry myself so I'll recommend their video Working for a Living (an old Huey Lewis song) which shows their names as they sing so you can see and besides, it's a funny one. Yes, the guys make us smile and lift up our spirits and they talk about very important issues too. We all kinda have crushes on them and soon you'll recognize the voices with your eyes closed!
I am one of the subscribers who recommended that you react to this version of Don McLean's American Pie. There are several points that I would like to make about this version and maybe answer some of your questions. First of all, Don McLean, who is now in his 70's sounds amazing and is still touring. He came to Home Free to do this collaboration because he has seen others combine with them and they sounded fanstastic. If you want to check out another great collaboration, check out "Elvira" with the Oak Ridge Boys. 2. The "Man in the Hat" name is Adam Chance and he is the newest member of the group. He goes by Chance because the group already had one member named Adam, Adam Rupp, the beat boxer extraordinaire. Chance is a natural baritone, with a great range. He takes over for Tim in singing bass when Tim goes to lead. He also can go up to cover the tenor range also. He also helps with some of the beat boxing and sound effects. 3. Tim Fouts, the bass singer has a 5-octave range, which is amazing. He has recorded a record on his own of Doo-Wop songs where he sings all of the lead and harmony parts. He has a couple of these videos on RUclips. 4. Rob, the tenor with the heavy beard and glasses and Austin, the other tenor, have recorded a video that is titled " Two Country Singers try to Sing Opera" and sing a fantastic version of Nessum Dorma that you ought to check out too. 5. The group also has a funny side, to go along with their serious work. Christmas songs like "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" and "Christmas Cheer" are both hilarious. They also have a couple of medlies out that are funny too, such as "The Butts Remix" and the "Sea Chanty Medley" have great singing and harmonies, but also show the guys' wacky side. With all of the songs that I have mentioned, I have just scratched the surface of the group. I am very glad that you found them and are taking the trip down this rabbit hole.
Chance, the guy in the hat, does the bass when Tim sings lead. He is also often paired with the tenors, Rob and Austin, on other songs. You can always tell when Chance or Tim sings bass. Chance was the bass in his prior group. His low voice allows Tim to sing more lead.
Now it’s probably time for you lovely ladies to react to “Mayday”. You’ll be twice as blown away. Your reactions are great. Thanks for reacting to Home Free.
I'm very glad you are becoming New home fries and I saw you are doing a Christmas 🎄 video I hope you choose a couple Home Free Christmas video. Snow Globe, I hear what you hear.
In addition to the recommendations in the other comments, I really like their cover of Maren Morris's "My Church". And it's so fun to watch reactors getting blown away by Home Free. I still am getting blown away as well with each song that I hear for the 1st few times. I am pacing my way through their repetoire, in part to maintain that air of wonder. Great reaction, as if the other (& better) comments don't make that point well enough.
Don wanted to do something special for the 50th anniversary of American Pie and he asked Home Free to do it with him and I for one am so glad this happened.
The first singer was Adam Chance, however, most people call him Chance because the beatboxer's name is Adam Rupp, so they call The beatboxer Adam and the baritone you referred to in the hat is Chance. Tim has a rare 5-octave range.
I love how the daughter's jaw always hits the floor when Tim starts singing. Great reaction! Aren't they amazing? For Christmas, any of their holiday songs. Do you hear what I hear is their best! If you want to hear all 6 of the them, try O come o come Emanuel. Angels We have heard on High will again have your jaws on the floor. Of course, What Christmas Means to Me, Christmas Ain't for the Lonely and everyone's favorite Full of Cheer are always lovely! For New Years, you absolutely have to listen to Alde Lang Syne!!!!! You are both lovely! Thank you for sharing!
Love watching you discover Home Free. They are amazing.💖You should check out the Drum Solo video,it will blow.you away.😱Butts remix will have you rolling on the floor😂😂and the Guilty Pleasure s will.keep you there🤣😂🤣 .Keep.the reaction videos coming .You rock the 😁
Most people dont know that this song is abput the death of buddy holly, Ritchie valence and the big bopper all three who died in a plane crash together and it became known as "the day the music died"
You might find it interesting to know that the man with the hat,Adam Chance, the first singer from Home Free, sang bass for his previous vocal group and Tim sang tenor in one of his previous vocal groups. Check out Brothers in Arms to hear them both take the lead.
You will be so blown away if you listen to them with headphones. You're really cheating yourself an experience..............Headphones!!!! So many reactors come back and confess why they waited to get a good pair of headphones. I have a pair of skull candy crushers and Adams drum hits and Tim's bass rattles my chest.
You need to find their behind the scenes video for this song. They were in the studio with Don McLean before Covid where he said he wasn't sure what he was going to be able to sing as good as he used to, and the guys just looked at him and said sing what you want and we will fall in with that.
Tim foust has a range like you wouldn't believe. You need to react to his Stay/Will you still love me tomorrow song. Also this was done during the Pandemic so none of them was together at that time. That is why the Boxes or frames. Also The Group began as a Rock n Roll band until they were on the Talent show and the Producer said they needed a C&W group and convinced them to sing Country and western.
I did a paper for my Creative Writing 101 class in the 1st year of college. Looking up these tidbits was super interesting... 1. ‘Drove My Chevy To The Levee But The Levee Was Dry’ There was an advertisement for Chevrolet sang in 1953 by Dinah Shore who was a top-charting female vocalist of the 40s and 50s. The fact it was now dry refers to the change in the social climate in the 60s compared to the 50s. 2. ‘Singin' This'll Be The Day' - in the chorus Likely refers to Buddy Holly's song "That'll Be the Day." 3. ‘But February Made Me Shiver’ Of course refers to the deaths of Buddy Holly, along with singers the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, and pilot Roger Peterson, perished in a plane incident February 3, 1959. Their small aircraft went down on a snowy late night after a concert in Clear Lake, IA. (Made me shiver - plane crashed in a blizzaed_ 4. ‘With Every Paper I'd Deliver / Bad News On The Doorstep / I Couldn't Take One More Step’ McLean worked as a newspaper delivery boy. And on February 3, 1959, the "bad news" was Buddy Holly's demise, on the cover of every paper that he delivered. 5. ‘When I Read About His Widowed Bride’ Buddy Holly was married to his young wife, Maria Elena Santiago-Holly, for only six months when he perished. His widowed, pregnant new bride was so traumatized by the news of his demise that she had a miscarriage. 6. ‘The Day The Music Died’ Since there was the loss of all three rock musicians in the same incident was seen as a tragedy, and in McLean's mind, marked the end of a musical era that would never be reclaimed. 7. ‘Did You Write The Book Of Love?’ "The Book of Love" is a famous song by The Monotones, a group from Newark, NJ. The song was released in 1958, topping pop and R&B charts. It must have left an impression on young McLean. As the lyrics to the song go: "I wonder, wonder who, mmbadoo-ooh, who...Who wrote the book of love" 8. ‘If The Bible Tells You So?’ "The Bible Tells Me So" was written by Dale Evans in 1955 and recorded by a handful of singers the same year. It was a pop(ish) version of the of the Sunday school song "Jesus Loves Me" 9. ‘You Both Kicked Off Your Shoes’ Refers to sock hops. Teenage dance parties in the '40s and '50s that involved playing popular music in gymnasiums or community halls. Kids were told to take their shoes off to protect the varnish on gymnasiums and dance floors. 10. ‘With A Pink Carnation And A Pickup Truck’ In 1957, Marty Robbins released the heartbreak song "A White Sport Coat (And a Pink Carnation)" about a young man "all dressed up for the dance" and "all alone in romance." 11. ‘And Moss Grows Fat On A Rolling Stone’ A year after Bob Dylan released "Like a Rolling Stone" in 1965, he was involved in a motorcycle accident that made him lie low for a year or two at the height of his career. He had just transformed himself from a folk singer to an electric guitar-playing rock musician, which caused a lot of controversy within the American music scene. Some people believe McLean's intention was to highlight the evolution of music between the '50s and early '70s while also pushing the action of the song into the '60s. 12. ‘When The Jester Sang For The King And Queen’ Bob Dylan is the jester, Pete Seeger is the king, and Joan Baez is the queen. Bob Dylan opened for them at the Newport Folk Festival in 1963, where the three of them sang Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" together on stage. 13. ‘In A Coat He Borrowed From James Dean’ On the cover of his 1963 album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, Dylan wears a red windbreaker similar to the one worn by James Dean in the film Rebel Without a Cause. 14. ‘And While The King Was Looking Down’ Reference to Pete Seeger looking down on the way Bob Dylan experimented with music in the 1960s. 15. ‘The Jester Stole His Thorny Crown’ Bob Dylan the jester became the king, taking the crown when he won hearts with his brand of folksy rock 'n' roll. Some people believe he took the crown from Elvis, the "King of Rock 'n' Roll." Others stick with Pete Seeger. 16. ‘The Courtroom Was Adjourned / No Verdict Was Returned’ Refering tothe JFK assination. After he was slain in 1963 , the man accused of the slaying, Lee Harvey Oswald, was himself slain. Therefore, "no verdict was returned" because no trial actually occurred. Also, the Warren Commission showed no real explanation to the event. 17. ‘And While Lennon Read A Book On Marx’ The popular theory is that he's singing about the Beatles becoming more political with their music as tensions soared in the '60s. The Beatles, adored by American youth, were deemed inappropriate by older generations who thought their music was too rowdy. Also, the Beatles released songs like "Revolution" in 1968, whose message is in line with the Communist writer Karl Marx, known for The Communist Manifesto.
18. ’The Quartet Practiced In The Park’ The quartet is likely the Beatles: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. 19. ‘And We Sang Dirges In The Dark’ A dirge is a funereal song of mourning, and there a lot of funerals in the '60s: President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy among them. The line could also refer to the Vietnam conflict; many drafted service members sent overseas never made it back home. 20. ‘Helter Skelter In A Summer Swelter’ "Helter Skelter" is a song the Beatles released in 1968, a year of political and social turmoil in the United States. The next August, "in a summer swelter," followers of Charles Manson (who called for racial war he refered to as "Helter Skelter") brutally slayed five people, including the actress Sharon Tate. 21. ‘The Birds Flew Off From A Fallout Shelter’ Some fans speculate this is an reference to the '60s rock band The Byrds. A fallout shelter is a euphemism for a drug treatment center, which one of the band members checked into after being caught with illicit substances. 22. ‘Eight Miles High And Falling Fast’ Eight Miles High is the title of a 1966 album by The Byrds. It is considered one of the first real trippy records. The sound of the album was influenced by plenty of experimentation with acid. 23. ‘It Landed Foul On The Grass’ Referencing the counterculture's overt use of the weed. 24. ‘With The Jester On The Sidelines In A Cast’ In 1966, Bob Dylan (the Jester), was in a very bad motorcycle accident which had him laid up and in a cast. He didn't want to go to a hospital so he moved in with small town doctor, Doctor Ed Thaler and his family, staying in the third-floor bedroom of their home, until he healed. 25. ‘While Sergeants Played A Marching Tune’ The Beatles released their album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in 1967. It was an album where they changed their style making traditional "rock n roll". Experimenting with different soundscapes, introducing instruments such as brass horns and sitars. 26. ' 'Cause The Players Tried To Take The Field / The Marching Band Refused To Yield’ Talking about the protest movement that seemed to peak in the late '60s and early '70s, from Chicago protests at the Democratic National Convention to the one at Kent State in Ohio where the National Guard opened fire on a bunch of students. 27. ‘Oh, And There We Were, All In One Place’ Woodstock. The 1969 music festival in Bethel, NY, which brought together more than 400,000 people in one weekend. Many of the most well-known rock musicians of the time performed, including Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. The festival is viewed as the height of American hippie culture. 28. ‘Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick / Jack Flash Sat On A Candlestick’ A mashup of the "Jack Be Nimble" nursery rhyme and the 1969 song "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by the Rolling Stones released on their album "Live'r Than You'll Ever Be". The album sold poorly, so this could be read as an insult to the Stones for not coming up with a good comeback to the Beatles' album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". 29. ‘Cause Fire Is The Devil's Only Friend’ The Devil seen to be represented by the Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. The Rolling Stones music potraying rebellion and estrangement, and the pull away from a more innocent time perceived earlier in the '50s and early '60s music as well as the world in general. 30. ‘No Angel Born In Hell / Could Break That Satan's Spell’ "Angel" refering to the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, which started a riot at the 1969 Altamont Free Concert in California. They were hired to provide security during a performance by the Rolling Stones, and an 18-year-old Black man was stabbed by a member of the motorcycle group (some say for trying to pick up on a white girl). The events of the day are considered by some to be the day the "free love" movement ended. 31. ‘I Met A Girl Who Sang The Blues’ The "girl" could be Janis Joplin, the rock singer with a very bluesy voice who perished from taking illicit substances in 1970. Her hits "Piece of My Heart" and "Me and Bobby McGee" were considered anthems for the hippie generation. 32. 'I Went Down To The Sacred Store / Where I'd Heard The Music Years Before / But The Man There Said The Music Wouldn't Play’ Don McLean is possibly talking about the loss of interest in '50s music at record stores. When he released the song in 1971, perhaps he was suggesting no one cared about music from this bygone era anymore. 33. ‘And In The Streets The Children Screamed’ In recent years leading up to the song's creation, thousands of young people across the country were involved in various protest movements, which led to confrontations with law enforcement or other groups. 34. 'And The Three Men I Admire Most / The Father, Son, And The Holy Ghost' Since Don McLean was raised Catholic, bringing religion in at the end of the song makes sense. The sacred holy trinity he speaks of, however, catches "the last train for the coast," likely a sign McLean believes America lost its moral foundation in 1959, the year of Buddy Holly's plane crash.
These are five really talented guys. The guy in the hat is Adam Chance, usually called Chance. If you want more of him, 2 often overlooked songs are their cover of Ed Sheeran's "Castle on the Hill", and their cover of "Some girls do." Sorry can't remember the original artist.
American Pie HF singers' in order of singing Appearances... 1st--- Adam Chance "Chance" baritone/bass, (from Alabama now California) 2nd--- Austin Brown lead tenor, (from Georgia now Tennessee) 3rd---Rob Lundquist 2nd tenor,/baritone (from Minnesota) 4th--- Tim Foust 5 octaves, (from Texas now Tennessee) -- Adam Rupp beatboxer/tenor (from Minnesota) So let's recall the collective abilities of Home Free. -- 5 lead singers -- 5 tenors -- 3 baritones -- 2 bass -- 1 basso profundo -- 5 beat boxers/vocal percussionists -- 1 EXCEPTIONAL beatboxer/drum kit/ vocal percussionist -- 5 guys proficient for various genres: (Pop/Country/R&B/Rock/Gospel/Rap/Blues/Musical theater/Comedy/Holiday/Doo Wop/AND NOW Opera..Opera!!/dancers-in- training 😉 )
Tim Foust has a five-octave range. He often blows out speakers during live performances. You haven't even heard his lower range yet. In fact, many people recommend listening to Home Free with headphones, especially to hear Tim's low notes. They claim to feel the bass through their bodies with the headphones. Christmas Songs; Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers; O Holy Night; Do you Hear What I Hear arranged by Adam Rupp, the beat boxer; The Warmest Winter written by Austin Brown; Angels We Have Heard On High. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer; Full of Cheer written by Tim Foust; Winter Globe written by Tim Foust. Other songs: Ring of Fire (there are two versions, one featuring Pentatonix's Avi Kaplan; the other version is a live performance that they did during the acapella competition show The Sing Off that they won) this song shows Tim's lower register; Blue Ain't Your Color; End of the Road; Amazed; The Broken Road; Bye,Bye,Bye; Wake Me Up; How Great Thou Art; Country Roads; The Driver; Listen to the Music; Folson Prison Blues' All About the Bass; Save the World; Understand. The Home Free guys also have a fun goofy side. Recommended songs: The Buttz Remix; Hillbilly Bone; Country Fried Pop; Thank God I'm A Country Boy; Sold; Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget written by Tim Foust. Quarantine They have nearly 200 videos. It doesn't matter which song, they always sound great even when they are plainly are acting " the fool" as Austin said in one of their videos. As for Don McLean, you need to hear his other masterpiece Vincent. It's a haunting song about Vincent Van Gogh.
They received 3 awards for this video. They have well over 150 videos, and they are all awesome! Enjoy! If you check out "How Great Thou Art" you get to hear a bit of Adam's (Rupp) voice. He has a beautiful voice.
You girls need to go to Tim's youtube channel and check out him doing "Since I Don't Have You" it's a solo but he has layered himself singing everthing-just take a deep breath before you start it-is a cover of the Skyliners hit that you, Mom, may have heard way back in the day. Then check out Peter Hollens featuring Tim Faust doing "Misty Mountains" .
Time for more Home Free recommendations: Ain't Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up Blue Ain't Your Color Elvira (with The Oakridge Boys) Go Rest High Upon That Mountain....(IF you want tears for days. Still an amazing song) Amazing Grace How Great Thou Art Mary Did You Know They did one with the late Kenny Rogers, but I don't remember the name. And, if you want to have ANOTHER awesome creator/singer, check out Peter Hollens. He does some incredible collabs.
You are ready for "Mayday". Austin Brown - High Tenor Rob Lundquist - Tenor Adam "Chance" - Baritone Tim Foust - Bass Adam Rupp - Beatboxer (These are their most common roles, but they like to surprise you) Chris Rupp - Tenor Founder & Adam Rupp's Brother Balding / Cowboy Hat / Cap "Chance" replaced him when he left in 2016. I think you are starting to get an inkling of why the Home Fries are so passionate about this group.
Adam Chance is the one wearing the hat and is the newest member of the group. He previously was the bass in another group, Street Corner Symphony which was also featured in the SingOff but two seasons before Home Free. He is known as Chance to not confuse him with the beatboxer, Adam Rupp. Chance joins The Hound and The Fox on their channel often. Both Tim and Chance have done Christmas songs on that channel, We Three Kings and The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire).
due to Covid several song like this one was shot with each one alone, as not to be in the same room due to covid. and they still make it sound great. :)
Such a good rendition. Don sounded great for 75! I loved the boxes. They reminded me of shadow boxes you keep your memories in. This was during Covid so they weren’t even together. Yeah, Tim has amazing range. The singer with the hat was Chance (he’s new to the group since 2016). Chance is the baritone/bass and he’s wonderful. Try I Can’t Outrun You, Helplessly Hoping , Yours, to hear more from him. I believe Don invited Home Free to join him when he got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Pretty cool. Good reaction!
Home Free-"MayDay".. Your jaw might hit the floor on this song.. Lol.. Definitely definitely worth checking out ❤ also home free "between a rock and a heartache" is really great and a funny video
Did you notice that the "boxes" they were in were designed to look like a memory box? Totally appropriate for the song they were singing. You should watch one of their funny videos. Check out "What Christmas Means To Me" - Very funny! I love these guys-they're not afraid to play!
I love your reactions!! so glad you did this song. Adam Chance (aka Chance) has a solo channel and he covered Driver's License - you would love that cover with his voice. also, if you think Tim Foust sang high in this, you need to check out his channel and react to Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay. that will blow you away!!! you need to do a comedic song try the Butts Medley you won't be disappointed thanks ladies!!
I subscribed to your channel for one reason - to watch your journey with Home Free. They are arguably the best acapella group on the planet. It's amazing how much talent they have and believe me, you have just begun. I agree that you should wait until you are comfortable with your knowledge of the group before you react to "Mayday." I would recommend "The Driver," "Cover Me Up" (which features Chance as the lead), "Helplessly Hoping," or "Catch Me If You Can." For something that showcases their sense of humor, I would recommend "The Butts Medley," or "All About The Base."
Adam Chance is the Baritone & fills in for bass when Tim sings ! Tim Foust has a 5 octave range ! Tim Foust has a do-wop album with just him singing all the parts ! It is called Pieces of Me !
Adam Rupp (the beatboxer) and his brother Chris (Baritone who wears a cowboy hat in a lot of their earlier songs) started Home Free around 2000. They added Rob (Tenor with the bushy beard who is also a master whistler) a few years later. Then the convinced Tim (bass, but up into tenor range as well) to sing with them. They met Austin (high tenor, kind of looks like "country Jesus") on a cruise ship they were singing on but didn't have a spot for him. Either a year or a bit less, later their tenor from that time left to be with his family and Austin joined. They went on the show The Sing Off right after that and won. A few years later Chris Rupp decided he wanted to go solo and helped them pick Adam Chance (hat guy here and called Chance because they already had an Adam ) as his replacement. Adam was singing as a bass with his previous group but can get into tenor range as well. For Christmas, I'd suggest Oh Holy Night or Marry Did You Know. Snow Globe is a great original that Tim wrote but it might be good to save that for after Mayday. Their cover of Folsom Prison Blues features Tim and Chance on lead and is very nice, though not a Christmas song.
Do you Hear What I Hear, Mary Did You Know? Auld Lang Syne, Silent Night, Angels We Have Heard On High. These are all songs Home Free has done. Would love to you react to them.
This was definitely an awesome collaboration of Home Free and Don McLain! From what I understand Don reached out to HF wanting to make this video together for his song's 50th anniversary. Of course they were not going to turn down that opportunity lol Home Free has so many songs to choose from, you can't really go wrong with any one of them. My suggestion for another great HF song and video to react to is Listen to the Music, originally done by The Doobie Brothers. This one came out this year by HF and let me tell you, I never would have guessed that Home Free could get any better as they are already perfect but it's true and this video proves it! I also really hope that you check another one called Cover me up, Chance sings the lead in this one and does a beautiful job with it. Also the video is awesome with a special surprise at the end. I could go on and on they have so many fantastic songs but I will assume that you both will get there eventually and come to know a lot more about them! Thanks for the reaction!
Tim’s range: lol, you ain’t heard nothin’ yet! Amazement awaits.
O holy night. Or Mary did you know will make your day!
I completely forgot about that one, Mary did you know is definitely a must see/listen to video.
Elvira with The Oak Ridge Boys is one that I enjoyed.
Take care
Second that, Mayday will blow your mind!
Mayday is where they really show their talents.
@@matthines4748 Do you hear what I hear was arranged by Adam Rupp who definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer(no pun intended). The song has an eerie quality to it, that you don't normally hear in Christmas Music.
I came across Home Free two years ago. I have been hooked since. They are the best a cappella group out there in my opinion.
Thank you! Such great information about them ☺️
I can't believe that I am only hearing them just recently. They are just so talented. 😍
You should check out their sea shanty. Which was inspired by a Scottish man Nathan Evans. Wheller man.
Saw the surprise when Tim started singing. He sings more then bass.
The man in the hat is called Chance 👍👍🙏🙏
I think you're ready for the Home Free cover of Boyz 2 Men
"End of the Road". Please put your seat belts on for this one.
You haven't heard Tim's range yet! Lol Chance is the guy in the hat ... Home Free has a way of making you feel good...great reaction 🥰🥰
Your “He has range??!!” Had me chuckling 😄 ‘cause sweetie you ain’t heard nothing yet!
Edited for a breakdown of the group.
Official version:
Beatboxer: Adam Rupp
High tenor: Austin Brown
Lead tenor: Rob Lundquist
Baritone/bass: Adam Chance (goes by Chance to avoid confusion)
Bass: Tim Foust
However… all five of them can beatbox to some degree
All five can sing in tenor range
At least three can sing baritone
And at least two can sing bass
I was thinking the same thing. Wait ‘til they hear his falsetto.
MAYDAY
@@davidkrutsinger5414 Or his Wil You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay!!
maybe add SNOW GLOBE in that too ?
Just wait til you hear his actual range cause when you guys do it's gonna blow your mind. If you wanna see his actual range. Tim and Austin have they're own channels also separate from home free where they do separate solo projects. Tim just released a song recently cover of "since I don't have you" you guys gotta check it out then you'll see his real range and it'll 🤯
Home Free and Don McLean recorded this for the 50th Anniversary tribute to Don's "American Pie". This song is one of the great masterpieces of the rock era and Home Free really did justice to this iconic classic.
Home Free clips do have a way of leaving one in a good mood.
For Christmas, Snow Globe is a must.
Brother's in Arms by Home Free.
It's also about the loss of innocence in American culture.
Just a gorgeous performance. Don McClean fits in well as the sixth member of Home Free.
This is an awesome collaboration between Don McLean and Home Free. Absolutely love your reactions!
They paid him huge respect by singing the original composition.
Helplessly Hoping and Sea Shanty Medley are two that I enjoy listening to, and Chance has solo parts. Love HF! Thanks for reacting to their music.
Adam Chance does the bass part while Tim sings lead.
If you want to hear tim's range. You should check out his solo song will you still love me tomorrow/stay
Listen to Ring of Fire by Home Free. Tim goes from falsetto to the lowest key on the piano (G1). Phenomenal range.
Now it’s probably time for you lovely ladies to react to “Mayday”. You’ll be twice as blown away. Your reactions are great. Thanks for reacting to Home Free.
This video was so excellent that it won a Telly Award. Do You Hear What I Hear for Christmas and Auld Lang Syne for New Years please.
Your man in the hat is called chance. 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
If you like harmonies, check out their version of helplessly hoping.
I'm telling you please do Helplessly Hoping by them. It's absolutely the best.
Home free is becoming one of my favorites too. Thank you God-bless
Home Free won the 4th season of the Sing-Off, the season after Pentatonix won. That is where I discovered them. Wonderful reaction ladies.
Check out a live version of them singing Dreamer where they are all introduced in the middle of the song.
I'm very glad you are becoming New home fries and I saw you are doing a Christmas 🎄 video I hope you choose a couple Home Free Christmas video. Snow Globe, I hear what you hear.
Adam Chance does have a great voice. You’d love his lead in Helplessly Hoping cover of Crosby, Stills and Nash.
For Christmas, you should hear Pentatonix doing Mary Did You Know.
Tim has a rare 5-octave range.
you defiantly should do End of the road form boys to men !!!
They are amazing.💖You should check out the Drum Solo video,it will blow.you away.😱Butts remix will have you rolling on the floor😂😂and the Guilty Pleasure s will.keep you there🤣😂🤣 .Keep.the reaction videos coming .You rock the 😁
Thank you Karlamarie! I would love to check out the drum solo video. I appreciate the recommendation. 😃
The guy with the hat is Chance, he sIngs baritone, and covers the bass when Tim does something else. And they all have great voices
Love your reactions. You may have found a new favorite group. I have found a new favorite reaction channel
Yeah, Tim's range makes him very special.
I'm with mom; granny of 6 here...saw mj and many others in person; but at 61 they're on my bucket list; pass the ketchup to all my home fries🍟🤠🇺🇸🥰
1. ‘Drove My Chevy To The Levee But The Levee Was Dry’
There was an advertisement for Chevrolet sang in 1953 by Dinah Shore who was a top-charting female vocalist of the 40s and 50s. The fact it was now dry refers to the change in the social climate in the 60s compared to the 50s.
2. ‘Singin' This'll Be The Day' - in the chorus
Likely refers to Buddy Holly's song "That'll Be the Day."
3. ‘But February Made Me Shiver’
Of course refers to the deaths of Buddy Holly, along with singers the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, and pilot Roger Peterson, perished in a plane incident February 3, 1959. Their small aircraft went down on a snowy late night after a concert in Clear Lake, IA.
(Made me shiver - plane crashed in a blizzaed_
4. ‘With Every Paper I'd Deliver / Bad News On The Doorstep / I Couldn't Take One More Step’
McLean worked as a newspaper delivery boy. And on February 3, 1959, the "bad news" was Buddy Holly's demise, on the cover of every paper that he delivered.
5. ‘When I Read About His Widowed Bride’
Buddy Holly was married to his young wife, Maria Elena Santiago-Holly, for only six months when he perished. His widowed, pregnant new bride was so traumatized by the news of his demise that she had a miscarriage.
6. ‘The Day The Music Died’
Since there was the loss of all three rock musicians in the same incident was seen as a tragedy, and in McLean's mind, marked the end of a musical era that would never be reclaimed.
7. ‘Did You Write The Book Of Love?’
"The Book of Love" is a famous song by The Monotones, a group from Newark, NJ. The song was released in 1958, topping pop and R&B charts. It must have left an impression on young McLean. As the lyrics to the song go:
"I wonder, wonder who, mmbadoo-ooh, who...Who wrote the book of love"
8. ‘If The Bible Tells You So?’
"The Bible Tells Me So" was written by Dale Evans in 1955 and recorded by a handful of singers the same year. It was a pop(ish) version of the of the Sunday school song "Jesus Loves Me"
9. ‘You Both Kicked Off Your Shoes’
Refers to sock hops. Teenage dance parties in the '40s and '50s that involved playing popular music in gymnasiums or community halls. Kids were told to take their shoes off to protect the varnish on gymnasiums and dance floors.
10. ‘With A Pink Carnation And A Pickup Truck’
In 1957, Marty Robbins released the heartbreak song "A White Sport Coat (And a Pink Carnation)" about a young man "all dressed up for the dance" and "all alone in romance."
11. ‘And Moss Grows Fat On A Rolling Stone’
A year after Bob Dylan released "Like a Rolling Stone" in 1965, he was involved in a motorcycle accident that made him lie low for a year or two at the height of his career. He had just transformed himself from a folk singer to an electric guitar-playing rock musician, which caused a lot of controversy within the American music scene. Some people believe McLean's intention was to highlight the evolution of music between the '50s and early '70s while also pushing the action of the song into the '60s.
12. ‘When The Jester Sang For The King And Queen’
Bob Dylan is the jester, Pete Seeger is the king, and Joan Baez is the queen. Bob Dylan opened for them at the Newport Folk Festival in 1963, where the three of them sang Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" together on stage.
13. ‘In A Coat He Borrowed From James Dean’
On the cover of his 1963 album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, Dylan wears a red windbreaker similar to the one worn by James Dean in the film Rebel Without a Cause.
14. ‘And While The King Was Looking Down’
Reference to Pete Seeger looking down on the way Bob Dylan experimented with music in the 1960s.
15. ‘The Jester Stole His Thorny Crown’
Bob Dylan the jester became the king, taking the crown when he won hearts with his brand of folksy rock 'n' roll. Some people believe he took the crown from Elvis, the "King of Rock 'n' Roll." Others stick with Pete Seeger.
16. ‘The Courtroom Was Adjourned / No Verdict Was Returned’
Refering tothe JFK assination. After he was slain in 1963 , the man accused of the slaying, Lee Harvey Oswald, was himself slain. Therefore, "no verdict was returned" because no trial actually occurred. Also, the Warren Commission showed no real explanation to the event.
17. ‘And While Lennon Read A Book On Marx’
The popular theory is that he's singing about the Beatles becoming more political with their music as tensions soared in the '60s. The Beatles, adored by American youth, were deemed inappropriate by older generations who thought their music was too rowdy. Also, the Beatles released songs like "Revolution" in 1968, whose message is in line with the Communist writer Karl Marx, known for The Communist Manifesto.
18. ’The Quartet Practiced In The Park’
The quartet is likely the Beatles: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
19. ‘And We Sang Dirges In The Dark’
A dirge is a funereal song of mourning, and there a lot of funerals in the '60s: President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy among them. The line could also refer to the Vietnam conflict; many drafted service members sent overseas never made it back home.
20. ‘Helter Skelter In A Summer Swelter’
"Helter Skelter" is a song the Beatles released in 1968, a year of political and social turmoil in the United States. The next August, "in a summer swelter," followers of Charles Manson (who called for racial war he refered to as "Helter Skelter") brutally slayed five people, including the actress Sharon Tate.
21. ‘The Birds Flew Off From A Fallout Shelter’
Some fans speculate this is an reference to the '60s rock band The Byrds. A fallout shelter is a euphemism for a drug treatment center, which one of the band members checked into after being caught with illicit substances.
22. ‘Eight Miles High And Falling Fast’
Eight Miles High is the title of a 1966 album by The Byrds. It is considered one of the first real trippy records. The sound of the album was influenced by plenty of experimentation with acid.
23. ‘It Landed Foul On The Grass’
Referencing the counterculture's overt use of the weed.
24. ‘With The Jester On The Sidelines In A Cast’
In 1966, Bob Dylan (the Jester), was in a very bad motorcycle accident which had him laid up and in a cast. He didn't want to go to a hospital so he moved in with small town doctor, Doctor Ed Thaler and his family, staying in the third-floor bedroom of their home, until he healed.
25. ‘While Sergeants Played A Marching Tune’
The Beatles released their album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" in 1967. It was an album where they changed their style making traditional "rock n roll". Experimenting with different soundscapes, introducing instruments such as brass horns and sitars.
26. ' 'Cause The Players Tried To Take The Field / The Marching Band Refused To Yield’
Talking about the protest movement that seemed to peak in the late '60s and early '70s, from Chicago protests at the Democratic National Convention to the one at Kent State in Ohio where the National Guard opened fire on a bunch of students.
27. ‘Oh, And There We Were, All In One Place’
Woodstock. The 1969 music festival in Bethel, NY, which brought together more than 400,000 people in one weekend. Many of the most well-known rock musicians of the time performed, including Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. The festival is viewed as the height of American hippie culture.
28. ‘Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick / Jack Flash Sat On A Candlestick’
A mashup of the "Jack Be Nimble" nursery rhyme and the 1969 song "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by the Rolling Stones released on their album "Live'r Than You'll Ever Be". The album sold poorly, so this could be read as an insult to the Stones for not coming up with a good comeback to the Beatles' album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
29. ‘Cause Fire Is The Devil's Only Friend’
The Devil seen to be represented by the Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. The Rolling Stones music potraying rebellion and estrangement, and the pull away from a more innocent time perceived earlier in the '50s and early '60s music as well as the world in general.
30. ‘No Angel Born In Hell / Could Break That Satan's Spell’
"Angel" refering to the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, which started a riot at the 1969 Altamont Free Concert in California. They were hired to provide security during a performance by the Rolling Stones, and an 18-year-old Black man was stabbed by a member of the motorcycle group (some say for trying to pick up on a white girl). The events of the day are considered by some to be the day the "free love" movement ended.
31. ‘I Met A Girl Who Sang The Blues’
The "girl" could be Janis Joplin, the rock singer with a very bluesy voice who perished from taking illicit substances in 1970. Her hits "Piece of My Heart" and "Me and Bobby McGee" were considered anthems for the hippie generation.
32. 'I Went Down To The Sacred Store / Where I'd Heard The Music Years Before / But The Man There Said The Music Wouldn't Play’
Don McLean is possibly talking about the loss of interest in '50s music at record stores. When he released the song in 1971, perhaps he was suggesting no one cared about music from this bygone era anymore.
33. ‘And In The Streets The Children Screamed’
In recent years leading up to the song's creation, thousands of young people across the country were involved in various protest movements, which led to confrontations with law enforcement or other groups.
34. 'And The Three Men I Admire Most / The Father, Son, And The Holy Ghost'
Since Don McLean was raised Catholic, bringing religion in at the end of the song makes sense. The sacred holy trinity he speaks of, however, catches "the last train for the coast," likely a sign McLean believes America lost its moral foundation in 1959, the year of Buddy Holly's plane crash.
Don sought out this group when honoring the 50th anniversary of this song there is even a special about it.
These are five really talented guys. The guy in the hat is Adam Chance, usually called Chance. If you want more of him, 2 often overlooked songs are their cover of Ed Sheeran's "Castle on the Hill", and their cover of "Some girls do." Sorry can't remember the original artist.
Sawyer Brown !!
And I Can't Outrun You, and Cover me Up are both Chance 'solos'.
@miamidolphinsfan thanks Kevin, in my mind I kept trying to make Zac Brown band and Sawyer Brown into 1 group

Please add Home Free to your Christmas list....their Christmas songs are amazing. They have over 150 videos out.
This was done during Covid.
Quarantine
They have nearly 200 videos.
Time for more Home Free recommendations:
Ain't Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up
Blue Ain't Your Color
Elvira (with The Oakridge Boys)
Go Rest High Upon That Mountain....(IF you want tears for days. Still an amazing song)
Amazing Grace
How Great Thou Art
Mary Did You Know
They did one with the late Kenny Rogers, but I don't remember the name.
And, if you want to have ANOTHER awesome creator/singer, check out Peter Hollens. He does some incredible collabs.
Homefree is my favorite group also !
I love this version better, too. Keep Home Free coming, I'll tag along.
You are ready for "Mayday".
Austin Brown - High Tenor
Rob Lundquist - Tenor
Adam "Chance" - Baritone
Tim Foust - Bass
Adam Rupp - Beatboxer
(These are their most common roles, but they like to surprise you)
Chris Rupp - Tenor
Founder & Adam Rupp's Brother
Balding / Cowboy Hat / Cap
"Chance" replaced him when he left in 2016.
I think you are starting to get an inkling of why the Home Fries are so passionate about this group.
Check out Home Free's singing Cover Me Up and watch to the end, Adam Chance lead vocal or Down To The Honky Tonk
You are stunning and your mother is so beautiful
Home Free-"MayDay".. Your jaw might hit the floor on this song.. Lol.. Definitely definitely worth checking out ❤ also home free "between a rock and a heartache" is really great and a funny video
You have a perfect reaction voice 👍👍👍
Wow! Home free, no words.
Did you notice that the "boxes" they were in were designed to look like a memory box? Totally appropriate for the song they were singing. You should watch one of their funny videos. Check out "What Christmas Means To Me" - Very funny! I love these guys-they're not afraid to play!
The "big" man is rob. 👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Their cover of dire straights “brothers in arms” is haunting yet beautul
Try Mayday you will really be surprised!
Also his collabs with the Hound & The Fox are amazing. They did a cover of Wayfairing Stranger that is AWESOME
@@miamidolphinsfan oh definintely. we will have to get the Hound & The Fox on their radar next 😂
Chance (Hat guy) takes over the bass line when Tim goes high!! Want your minds blown, listen to their song Butts Melody!!!
