Here's a little condensed history. Miku had previously worked at a Maid Café and thought it would be cool to combine that kind of cuteness with Rock 'n' Roll. After finding her lead guitarist Kanami Tōno via an Internet search, the rest of the members were added as new members referred her to other musicians they had worked with and liked.
Miku started off handling lead vocals, but the band decided to add an additional singer. Saiki Atsumi was selected after auditions.
They pull in influences from Punk, to Metal, to Pop, etc.
Akane has mentioned Nao, the drummer for Maximum the Hormone as a role model. Seeing a woman drummer was huge for her.
MISA has said that Smashing Pumpkins inspired her to learn the bass, and she looks up to Paz Lenchantin (Pixies, etc.).
Kanami is a huge Carlos Santana fan. Not too surprising she'a a PRS guitar girl.

This is one of the best tracks to illustrate just how good a teacher Sensei Mincho is at instructing Miku (po!) on rhythm guitar, and just how good Miku (po!) is as a student following her Sensei's lessons!
All through this track, Mincho is essentially doing all lead riffs, with Miku (po!) holding strong on the rhythm! 🙂❤️

The Akane, MISA, Miku rhythm trio doing what they do best- serving up the heavy and keeping it crunchy while Kanami plays magical leads! These 5 ladies have elevated Rock and Hard Rock to a beautiful place.💪🏻🤘🏻

Their picks are signed, and they after the concert throw them into the audience. And if I remember correctly, there is a fancam from the Band Maid gig, which shows how Miku is reaching for a new guitar pick from the microphone stand pole.

I've been to a few concerts in my time (I'm 56) and I've seen some great bands like Van Halen, Def Leppard, Uriah Heep to Garbage, The Distillers and No Doubt. If it were between Metallica and Band-Maid the choice would be easy...Band-Maid!

This song was originally meant to be an instrumental (written by Kanami) for their live shows but the members liked it so much Miku (rhy g) wrote up simple lyrics so this song was born. They have several instrumentals that are NOT released that they only play during live shows.

  • @outwest1014
    @outwest1014 4 года назад +46

The members of Maid-Band are all to one degree or another professionally trained/educated.
How they work, Kanami (lead guitar) composes the music, sending (internet) it to Akane (drums) and MISA (bass) for bass and drums. Miku.(vocals, rhythm guitar, band founder) writes the lyrics. Then to the studio where all of them complete the song. Saiki (vocals) is the one who calls "we're done". Likely because the others would work on a song forever. On the last album apparently Miku and Saiki arranged the order of the songs. Recap, they write arrange and produce their own songs. Of course as you just heard they are highly talented and skilled performers, no electronic tricks needed.
If you think you play a musical instrument well, there is a Japanese lady who is better than you are!! (stolen)
Everyone BE SAFE sheltering in California.

Some bands do that to pass picks out to the audience, I was at a foghat concert once, and every so often the guitarists would toss the pick they used, to the crowd and grab a new one. I was a lucky recipient of one and treasure it to this day.

I enjoyed your comment on the picks on the stand. Even though that was Miku's stand, I can easily believe that that MISA and Kanami must have something similar. Kanami switches back and forth between picking and two-handed tapping in the blink of an eye, and MISA rapidly switches back and forth between picking and slapping (the bass). I've heard that they each of them "palm" their picks using a different technique, but both seem to have mastered what they do. Even so, surely there must be a risk of dropping the pick.

Band-Maid are all now in their late twenties. Kanami (guitar) and MISA (bass) started music lessons (on piano) when they were about 3 years old. Akane (drums) started piano a couple years later. In high school, MISA switched first to playing trumpet and alto horn, Akane learnt the trombone, Kanami picked up a guitar. MISA also played guitar before switching finally to the bass guitar. Akane did try to play guitar but her hands were too small, so she chose to play drums. MISA and Akane both studied at the Tokyo School of Music and played in college bands. Kanami studied Economics and Management Theory at University but continued playing guitar in bands before branching out as a singer-songwriter. Neither Miku or Saiki appear to have had more than a few piano lessons, instead taking up singing in their teens. Miku only started to learn to play guitar after Band-Maid had been formed. Most recently Saiki has posted short videos on social media with her singing and playing acoustic guitar and piano, albeit fairly basic. They are all still intent on learning more and improving their music skills.

There’s no apologies in rock n roll?!!! I heard that note you hit, you hit it cuz you felt it, nothing more, that simple, kept it going too
Won’t see BandMaid apologize! Except the lead guitarist, she’s the cutest quietest thing until they turn her loose on the stage!
I’m sure every once in a while those picks get used, but I know people love to catch em at the end of a solo, song or show. Gotta practice throwing em, just like you might ya e hair practice, rehearse your head swinging dance choreography!

Band-Maid is INSANE! If you love them, their is another band that has a lot of cross-over fans. Another All Female band called THE WARNING! They are three teenage sisters (10+ years younger than the ladies in Band-Maid) from Mexico, that are a Rock Power Trio! The oldest just turned 20 years old and they already have an EP and 2 full albums of originals all in English, with a third album coming out this year! Do yourself a favor and check them out!
Here is the first track off their 2nd album, "Queen of the Murder Scene". It's called Dust to Dust: ruclips.net/video/TeIbG8nkOiU/видео.html
They are 18, 16 and 13 years old at this performance!
And you being a Bass player will appreciate that the Youngest, Alejandra, is the YOUNGEST Spector Bass Artist EVER! She just got NEW custom 5 string from Spector, and it sounds incredible!
