    Im surprised how composed the GTI is. He rarely has to hack at the wheel at all, very smooth for an FF.

      @@TheCarTakes What aero do you recommend? And what ride height?

    • @TheCarTakes
      @TheCarTakes 4 года назад +1

      l8o of course the more custom aero you go the better, they dont make anything too track oriented for the mk6 gti but i know some people who hookup the custom chasis mounted splitter, suspension and tires are king with fwd cars tho, i have d2 racing coilovers at about medium stiffness all around with being as low as i can without rubbing.

      I know this is an old comment but I'll respond anyway... the electric power steering system in the GTI is *excellent* and really shines with a modified suspension, especially after bushing upgrades. At track speeds like this it's effectively a completely manual rack as the system stops applying assist over a certain speed and only really comes back on to prevent torque steer. That means that instead of fighting the wheel as it tries to break your wrists when accelerating out of corners the car just goes where you point it, much like an AWD car.
      I don't really understand why the GTI isn't more popular among track rats as you can get CTR performance for a fraction of the price with a low enough initial buy-in where you won't feel bad about stripping the interior or removing the air conditioning and radio. With aftermarket wheels, removed rear seats, removed jack/spare, lithium motorsport battery, and fixed back bucket seats the car's weight without driver would come in at just shy of 2800 lbs.

      @michael w I have mk4 GTI that has OEM+ mods that I do track days with. Often the only VW. It’s fun but the investment to get it to the next level isn’t worth it to me. Just picked up an ap2 so will be fun to compare this spring/summer. 🙂

    Excelllent video, and great driving too! I drive both of these cars currently, so it really speaks to me(I daily+autocross a mk6 gti, and track an ap2 s2000). A lot of people don't think much of the gti, but I found that once you tune out the ESC it's really well balanced. The gti rotates real nice with a little throttle lift, and I love the steering accuracy in it too. Definitely needs a real lsd though!

I have been in the Watercooled VW Scene since 1983, and I have never seen so many Japanese cars loose to the GTI's. Time & Time again, The HGP Golf Did 221 MPH On The Autobahn.
    I have yet to see a Japanese Car Do that. The Bugatti Veyron in the Video couldn't even catch the 3.6 Liter VR6 Twin Turbo Mark 7.5 Golf. Over 700HP & 800 + Torque. LONG LIVE THE VW GTI 🤩😍😋🤗

    • @TheChannel1978
      @TheChannel1978 6 лет назад +1

      Many cars are faster than an s2k but they are more expensive or less reliable and the e46 m3 is both. It's a great car, I've had one as a rental several times but to find a clean one for a decent price is nigh impossible.

    • @XXwikkiXX
      @XXwikkiXX 6 лет назад

      9000Redline I have never heard of a rental E46 m3 so I think you might be mistaken. And no they are not unreliable either, I own one currently, oh and it's the worse kind one which is a SMG, but it runs strong and looks good doing it. No I am not a Honda hater infact I am a fan of S2000 but they have gone out of reach where as the m3 is still affordable.

    • @TheChannel1978
      @TheChannel1978 6 лет назад

      Where I live (New Zealand) s2ks are more affordable than Euro performance cars due to proximity to Japan and distance to Europe. M cars or Audi, Porsche have huge markups. It's the same in Australia by the way. The e46 rental isn't a story I'm making up. A company called devinerentals.com had one. It is not on their site anymore though. I know it was for sale at some point, presumably because renter drove the wheels off it. Both the e46 and r90 are known to have various issues, not only engine related. I'm not knocking your car mate but anything built for performance has tolerances that are smaller than an economy car. Any performance car is going to be more unreliable in general (when driven spirited or on track) than an economy car, it's a given.

    • @XXwikkiXX
      @XXwikkiXX 6 лет назад

      9000Redline gotcha, well I am in the US and the prices for s2k have rocketed here. Even something with 100k miles is not less than $15k. I looked into the s2k when I was trying to buy myself a performance car. The m3 just had more power and is bigger hence I opted for it.

    • @TheChannel1978
      @TheChannel1978 6 лет назад

      Would have done the same in your situation. It's just the reverse here. Maybe there are also less LHD S2ks than RHD, driving up prices further. So in the US how much is a 80k mile e46? In NZ those used to sell for 15K US 5years ago, but now prices are 20K+ and that's for a 80k+ car which is going to have issues at some point, like any car that is getting up in the mileage. I'm puzzled by it and drive my s2k that doesn't eat my wallet where I live.
