Back in around 1960, in the last few seconds of the red light before it changed to green, the yellow light came on, so drivers could shift their manual transmissions into gear and be ready to go. Also, near the end of the green light cycle, the yellow light then came on. The yellow and green were both on at the same time. Sometimes in small towns, the go light was blue. My Uncle Cap told us kids, there was a little man who lived inside the signal, who changed the lights and Santa brought him new light bulbs on Christmas
The US traffic light system needs a MAJOR overhaul. I appreciate how the video mentioned lights works in tandem, and although they do at intersections, there are many lights along a street that do not. The outcome? Red light after red light after red light... We need smart traffic light systems that work in a network, going beyond what was described in the video. (Thanks for the info, by the way!)
In my country, green means honk your horn as loud as you can and be an asshole, yellow is to go faster to reach the intersection before it turns red, and red means go if there are no enforcers to see you.
I disagree with the end of traffic lights. They never ever should've come out with self driver less cars in the first place. They don't even know what's going on.
Running a yellow light could be reduced if drivers were educated correctly on the road rules. You must stop on a yellow light if it is safe to do so. Anyone speeding up when they clearly could and should be braking scores themself a $1,000 fine.
Emergency vehicles don't have a remote control. They have a strobe on the vehicle that is not able to be seen by the naked eye, but is picked up by a sensor on the mast arm or span wire of the traffic signal. That sensor then tells the traffic signal controller to put the cross street into a red phase, allowing the emergency vehicle to safely pass through the intersection.
Unfortunately people who operate traffic lights still get very wrong, allot of traffic signals aren't synchronised with each other especially on long continueses roads.....
They are far behind proper traffic light efficency. The city planners and engineers agree to make the road lights as inefficient as possible in order to create "compunded stresses" on the roads.

Garret Morgan didn't invent THE traffic light. He invented A traffic light. His 1922 invention looked nothing like the traffic lights we know of today. The lights we know today more closely resemble a signal designed by William Potts in1920. Morgan did make out pretty well, though. General Electric bought the rights to it, netting Morgan a sweet $40,000. That's equivalent to about $600,000 today. Morgan should be more revered for his Safety Hood invention, which would become the gas mask, literally saving lives in a mine explosion.
If there is ever an end to traffic lights in the future, could we please get a few decommissioned NYC DOT traffic lights with double guywire mastarm sent to the traffic light collection hobbysts approved by the NYC DOT. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I love this, thank you for sharing!
this is still how the light ccle works in Germany! This is just so much safer and more comfortable as well.

Please add a "How traffic lights should be used" video for my country.

You forgot to mention some emergency vehicles (police, fire and ambulance) may also have a remote control to change the light when approaching them.
He did

Its not weight sensors, its inductive loop sensors…
Yellow light before red, in Serbia doesn't mean stop but speed up :)
New Jersey
lmao
It means the same here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area too!
Serbia? Haha
Yes, that's true even in India
bro i wish they had counters where i live, those seem really useful
I always thought that the traffic lights are worked by humans when they control is by going red, yellow or green 😂
Why do lights turn red for me with no one else approaching intersection? I don't know why but I shoot them out and go anyway
ok. 😐

Thats how they bait you and giving you a fat ticket 🎫!
Never know how they do it but they have control system!

Here is something which traffic lights which a lot of people did not know before.

I, a human assure you that humans(like me) will not be automated in the 22nd century.

very informative
TIL there isnt a dude controlling traffic
The main reason for road rage 😤
This video teaches me very good
In India people love to break traffic signals
Very nice video.
Underated kept it up
Walk,Bicycle, motorcycle, cars, airplanes when passing intersections Y have to be following the traffic laws.
Respectively I am
You should also mention that Garrett Morgan was the inventor of the traffic light. 🙄
We learning how it works not it’s history

Why traffic light timer 30 seconds not a minute
Thing that we all have seen in real life 😅😅😅
Let me guess you could never pass the are you a robot security portion hmmmm ROBOT!?
No we need traffic lights too much crazy people on the road.
Cool😉😉😉😉
Which Algorithm they use ???
Unless somebody just ask google
What is traffic light?
Interesting
please copy the cebu city design. ty
Rip grammar for the title
what? there’s nothing wrong with it
I’m telling something is going on in Ohio
Its NOT really its started in United states by a black man
