I have both the K-Max and Commandante and I reach towards the K-Max 90% of the time. It's just a more pleasant experience - easier to hold, grinds more easily, easier to adjust, better catch cup, etc.... Any differences in quality of grind is a miniscule in comparison.
Do you find it easy to dial in espresso with it? Am torn between it and the J-Max 😞
I have the Comandante C40 MK4, but considering trying the K-Max for the numbered steps as apposed to having no numbers when dialing in
New sub. Great review. Everything you said was on point for the k-max. I have owned one for a few months now and I absolutely love it for filter coffee
Great review.
I just purchased the Kpro, for anyone that would like to know, I put 40g of coffee in the grinder and it very easily fitted in the screw-in cup of the Kpro, contrary to their information.
I nearly ordered the Kmax because I was afraid of not having room for a 40g two-cup brew, but I'm glad I went for the slimmer counterpart!
Super excited for the SOFI 👌🏾
Great review. Thanks
Excellent video. The detail and the presentation has really improved over the last few months. Good luck with the new setup.
At the edge of the espresso prosumer rabbit hole looking forward to the grind, that is where I am standing this morning. thx
Great review!
I just got my K-Max and love it.
Had been waiting for this video 😍and it did not disappoint. Enough technicality covered to help people choose between Commandante and 1Zpresso 🙏
Thanks for the review! I've had my K-Max for almost a year now and I absolutely love it!
I would be curious how this grinder and the new ZP6 taste side by side.
Great video thanks so much!
Great review, loved the intro! As a K-plus owner I can second all of your findings here.
If possible, please do provide your grind setting ranges for pour over, cupping and aeropress? (Just to compare and contrast with what I have arrived at wrt to light roasted Indian coffees)
Welcome to the new space. Glad you are all feeling better. Thanks for the great review.
I love my K max. Sometimes I find myself just staring at it! It’s so eye pleasing 🙏😄 thinking about getting a K-ultra now or J max maybe 👍
Great video!
Just ordered my K Max yestetday from Amazon, its already shipped, I presume ftom China or Taiwan. Can't wait to try it, only been seriously brewing V60 pour over's since January and my Timeore C2 is giving me problems, I am glad of that because I think this is the one.
Externally setting grind and consistency are most important. Didn't get that from the C2.
Great review!!! I am very happy with the K-plus. I switched from J max because I have problem of grinding lighter roasted coffee. Can you also provide your grind setting for moka pot, pour over and aeropress in darker coffee bean like sumatran bean? I want to compare it.
I don't understand. Why do you have problem with j max? Difficult to grind or something?
I never hit the like button until the end of a video, to make sure I like it first obviously. But today I hit the like right away. I know I’m going to love watching what you have to say about the K
Thank you!
Hey guys! Great review! Couldnt refrain myself from buying the SOFI. Getting South Indian filters is super hard in Spain. Congrats for the business idea and looking forward to try it.
Just bought Kmax after watching this video.. Thanks bro!
Great review! would be really interested in seeing you compare the ZP6 with the K-max :)
I'm sure we'll do this at some point. Thanks for stopping by.
I m looking forward for Coffee roaster Suppliet
Some confirmation bias for me, but I have been loving my filter coffee with k-plus. I don’t have a commandante to compare with… but it’s a huuuge step up from the stock sage barista express grinder. Or the cheap £50 electric grinder I had. I realise aesthetics are a personal choice, but k-plus seems a lot more stable thanks to the stockier base. I suspect I would be toppling over k-Max of the counter all the time.
I like them all. Old school Neopolitan coffee is my thing, so I got the Jmax and a Flair.
The kplus was hard to pass on. Would definitely work with a 40mm 18gr basket.
Nice ergonomics and that catch cup...
For me the sixty bucks is a vintage stovetop popper from Sweet Maria's to continue contact roasting.
Still would not be mad with the kplus or Kmax.
For light roast the Aeropress brew chamber makes a nice catch cup while I curse my lack of grip strength.
With my espresso roast blend the reduced ergonomics are trivial.
Amazing reviewand I can confirm everything you said. I choose the K-Max for its design, features (adjustment ring, magnetic catch cup) and versatility. I can't compare it to the Commandante but I guess their build quality makes it still on of the best in the market
Ever since I got the k-max, internal click adjustments feel outdated. That adjustment collar and magnetic cup have completely spoiled me. And an incredibly clean cup. I make v60 pour overs every day, and I feel I got my money's worth from my k-max a long time ago. Money very well spent.
Thx!
Could you compare this to the JX-Pro?
Amazing review. I have had the K Plus for over a year. No regrets at all. I use it primarily for espresso and like you mentioned, I have to play with dose to get a perfect shot but I don’t mind considering the grind consistency is absolutely amazing.
I'm thinking about the K plus for espresso, too, but I was worried because of the larger size jumps. What's your method for adjusting grind size and dose to dial in shots?
@@vntruong879 Sorry I didn't response sooner.
So lets say my extraction is just a bit too slow. I know if I make my grind coarse it will probably make too big of a difference so I will at that point change my dose amount.
For example:
My dose is 19 grams of coffee. A bit too slow. Keep grind setting the same and go down to 18.5 grams or 18. This should do the trick. You will obviously have to change your yield amount a bit too.
Hope this helps.
All in all, my K plus is amazing. I use it for french press, turkish, espresso, etc. The grinds come out so beautiful.
@@nmilb1234 grind settings for all of this methods. please =)
Thanks for your review. Since the K-max's key profile is clarity, I'd like to know how it compare to any electric grinder with the SSP multipurpose. Did who have a chance to use it?
We should have the SSPs very soon so we’ll definitely be comparing.
New J-max does have the rubber on the bottom of the catchcup!
Do you think the magnets will over a period of time lose their magnetism? Point to be considered if one desires long term durability.
k max or k plus better in espresso and filter coffee in your opinion
Wow, what mic do you use?
Great video, even greater ending 😂
Grind aramse!
Agree bro
Skip to 3:00 for the review
K-Max doesn't have the resolution that J-Max has. My J-Max has the rubber bottom and frosted top so I think yours is an older version. Even with 8.8 micron per click I find myself wanting to be in between clicks occasionally. More resolution per click is feature that's pretty simple to improve. Hopefully we can get more options to choose from.
I have and older K-Max that also doesn't have a rubber bottom and frosted plastic. I guess 1zpresso moved to that entirely.
Well, I'll give you $20 for it if your not happy.
@@usngunr if you multiply your offer by 10 I might buy the newer one xD. So yea I'm still happy with it :)
The J Max I bought shortly after your review video has the frosted lid and the rubber base.
Woohoo that rubber base is great :)
Interesting update about Sofi! One thing though. On your website, you say that, for the tamper, "Our science-backed research shows that this non-essential accessory disturbs the coffee bed and causes uneven extractions". Could you please cite sources?
Hey Aswath, you can check out the pinned post on this video: ruclips.net/video/tXArZCJN4aY/видео.html
@@aramse I'm sorry, but if you're claiming "science-baked", it's just professional to back it with the proper sources in the article itself.
@@jimandtim1656 well, we clearly say "Our research" so it's our own research using a scientific approach. We haven't claimed that there are any papers written on this but our team has engineers and science majors. That being said, this claim is based on the fact the water takes the path of least resistance. This "tamper" is both curved and poorly machined, which means it compacts the puck unevenly causing areas of lower density. More water will flow though these areas neglecting others, creating a very uneven extraction. Extraction measurements using a reflectometer have been done to confirm this hypothesis.
@@aramse This is just sad and disappointing! When you say science-backed, you ought to back it on real science. Every flat-earther or Chemtrails conspiracy theorist claim that they too are "scientists", but the Earth isn't flat.
Don't get me wrong, even I'm inclined to think that the tamper isn't always helpful. But before claiming something definitive, I would have tried to validate it with measurements (which I would share) or better find scientific articles on it. Without either of those, it's a hypothesis at best.
@@jimandtim1656 the brewer ships in September because we’re working on packing, a detailed brew guide and an even more detailed FAQ section which will in fact include numbers and images of our experiments/tests.
Aramse, can you review the urbanic 070 espresso grinder? Would love to get your point of view on this machine.thank you very much
Not easy to get a hold of here but we’ll try. :)
@@aramse thank you so much. I have asked a few other content creators about the urbanic but just got ignored so I truly appreciate even just your reply and all your videos, they are very informative and a joy to watch. Always happy to see a notification that you have posted a new vid.
God bless you
Be well
@@carlossanchez8534 Thanks so much! And we always try to respond to as many comments as possible.
Any idea if it's possible to do "half-clicks" or maybe hack the K-series to do half-clicks?
Not that we’re aware of.
I love 1Zpresso! But i love the comandante too for the old fashion toy train sound when grinding…
A question about Sofi 72, i saw your clip on it but thought ill ask here… doesn’t it leave quite a lot of sediments like the Vietnamese phin or the moka pot? Considering that we are grinding espresso fine and the holes on the filter is much bigger? Thanks!
Also have checked it out on your website, what currency is that? Thank again!
Can u taste the flavor difference?
@@evanm.2300 for the beans I have tried, mostly light to medium roasted, k max has more clarity, somewhat sharper, crisp n c40 more layers n sweeter
With the K-Plus and it's 22 microns per click, would it be quite difficult to adjust for espresso? I love the K-Plus, but would like to get into espresso.
Per click changes around 6 sec on a VST 18 gram shot (WDT+calibrated tamper). It’s not as big as what people thinks. Just slightly +- the dose by 0.5. You’ll get the shot you want.
@@jonathanedmund7429 Thanks good to know, was getting some buyer's remorse here.
Disappointed to see that you didn't include a sift/particle distribution test been this, the Commondante and the J-Max.
I've been waiting for the updated K-Plus to come back in stock (I want the larger catch cup and blind shaker) before buying these and having been thoroughly confusing my self in the meantime.
Anyhow, looks like it's going to be either the K-Plus or K-Max for me, depending on in-hand feel.
Ah we totally forgot to put the table in during editing. We've put the results of the kruve tests in the pinned comment on top.
For more details on the following things please watch our J-Max review (ruclips.net/video/R4Pyrd_FH5o/видео.html ) as we cover these in a lot of detail:
1. Accessories
2. Disassembly and cleaning
3. Calibration
We also forgot to include the Kruve test results. These are average scores of 3 sifts for each grinder. The spread for boulders, mid and fines in % for a pour over grind size, were as follows:
Comandante MK3: 18.5, 73, 8.5
J-Max: 19.5, 70, 10.5
K-Max: 18.5, 74.8, 6.7
Note that these weren't very extensive so we will be repeating these as the burrs age and see how things change.
Lastly, the Comandante is tried and tested and built to last. Ours is coming up on 4 years. It still looks great and works perfectly and there a lot of value in that. We'll do a long term review of the 1ZPresso grinders and see if they hold up this well.
did you forgot to pin that comment? :)
@@bohdanpopovych9628 haha yes we did. Pinned now :)
Ever since I got the J Max , my biceps 💪 have gone stronger 😅
Lol i got the jmax too, my first quality grinder, i couldn't imagine wanting a comandante mk4 as a only grinder so i retured it as soon as i found out jmax was way faster and still amazing. Its half the price doesn't need redclick and is half the time to grind and more modern in tech. C40 would be like overworking out at the gym 6am in the morning and still needing to go to work at a labor job lol 😆
You are quite irritating with annoying tendon strength and an intelligent co host.
Both of you are brilliant presenters.
An old technosaurus Linux geek from the 1900s you good Sir are a potential nightmare designer.
Also a potential standout. Enough technical acumen to be dangerous.
Your reviews and education have helped me find my entry to 9 bar puck regulated coffee.
Using a phin until sofi gets to Appalachia.
The Jmax isn't perfect. It is a fantastic grinder for people who need a more approachable entry to modern espresso.
Love your channel and the education.
Would really enjoy your take on the evolution of Neopolitan coffee from the cuccamello, Arduino, Bialetti, Gaggia.
I have found the filter and espresso videos here very informative.
Loving my Flair and this channel helped me sort the model for my needs.
So in terms of durability, it seems Commandante still wins, though in terms of price, this Kmax seems more attractive.
Durability ? Of dropping it from a 2 storey building ? Been using my k-plus for a year and have used well over 20kg of beans. Prior to that I was with the C-40. The external adjustment is a game changer, the grind speed is twice of the c-40. However, The taste is similar if I am to be frank.
@@jonathanedmund7429 That's just an impression I got from the reviews here, where Commandante was said to be something 'heirloom-worthy' and Kmax getting a dent from a fall. And thanks for sharing your experience about both.
@Mike Edwards Thanks for sharing your opinion on both products. Love the classy look of Commandante yet K-max is no walkover.
I dunno... I prefer to give my hard earned money to companies that pioneer in their field... 1ZPresso, as many companies from the middle-land, waits for others to innovate and then just copies...
