My first grinder was a Timemore Chestnut C2 and I loved it but while it was perfect for my moka pot (size and grind) many told me it wasn't recommended for espresso grinds and I did have to put some effort towards the grinding and took some time due to the smaller diameter that beans entered and shared space within. Lastly the metal house while assisted my hand that held down the grinder it also hurt due to the bumps that assisted. I used a cheap bench clamp to instead hold down the timemore vs using my hand which helped greatly. Just got the J-Max grinder that can handle an espresso grinding size and while it still requires some effort when turning the crank it is less effort then the Timemore and having a bigger diameter allows for faster grinding with less rotations needed. Just got the J-Max a month ago but now I feel more influenced to actually buy fresh beans and grind it vs using Kcups as I rush about certain aspects of my day. Curious how other reviewers will compare this new grinder with J-Max and K-Max. I went for the J-Max not just being extremely beloved by others, $50 cheaper, and more control per click towards the grind size (takes some time to experiment to find the right sizes per brew methods but when doing so gives a extra level to the cups). The K-Max had some interesting features over the J-Max that I wish was incorporated into the J-Max (maybe a V2 J-Max) but ultimately I still leaned to the J-Max.
Great video. Any chance you can comment on how this one stacks up against the Kingrinder K6 (which is a bit cheaper and IMO better looking, as well as supposedly being faster)

The adjustment per click is more than four times finer than the C40, more than twice as fine as Red Clix. The often quoted 30 micron clicks of the C40 refer to the approximate change in particle size, not movement of the burr. 0.7mm thread pitch / 12 clicks per round = 58.3 microns (29.2 w/red clix) Just pointing this out because a lot of other videos get this completely wrong and have led to the false perception that anything less precise than 15 microns per click isn't good enough for espresso.

Kyle, great you got this excellent X-Pro review out so quickly! I asked Ply this question, but he suggested to ask you - how do you think this clarity-focused X-pro conical hand grinder compares to flat burr grinders like the Ode, Ode+SSP and VarioW+ in terms of cup quality?
That's a complicated question and not something as easy to answer since it's apples and oranges. I think the X-Pro is a personal favourite but to be clear, it's conical burr. They will more or less always have a different profile than a flat. The SSP MP burr is the clarity king. But that's not always what people are seeking for... but think so because someone online raved about it. I'd recommend trying these different grinders if possible (Borrowing from a friend? Going to a local retailer? Local cafe that sells them?) and testing them. This will give you a better understanding of the difference.
@@KyleRowsell This is the best answer you could have given :). SSP MP might be what I'm looking for, then. I didn't know clarity is what I was after. I like my coffee closer to water than sludge (if that reference makes sense?). I don't think I'll ever get to try the SSP MP on anything, but the X-Pro is fun. I tried double grinding yesterday and I didn't notice any improvement on my Clever Dripper. But did notice improvement in my Clever using Wet WDT :).
I ordered the x-pro last week and can't wait for it to arrive, I also am not a fan of the 1zpresso branding, maybe i'll find some kind of sleeve to wrap over their branding. Bit of an upgrade from my Hario Skerton.
Seems the ordering from broader/more espresso oriented grind distribution to more unimodal/pourover oriented goes: JX/J-Pro/J-Max > K-Pro/K-Max > Q2/X-Pro > ZP6 special. If I can infer, the C40 falls into the K-Pro/K-Max range.
Hi, does Q2 and Xpro use the same burr? If not, what's the different between them(Just for flavor and taste). Actually I'm looking for a budget grinder which is closely to the Comandante C40.
Hello, I'm looking for a high-quality grinder for espresso, and I want to know if the 1Zpresso J-Ultra is a good choice. Are there other grinders like the Comandante or Timemore that I should consider? What do you suggest? Thanks in advance.
Just ordered it based on your recommendation through the link. this is my first hand grinder. For my espresso grinder I’m torn between niche and df64P. Since I’ll be using the Xpro for pour over which would you recommend for espresso? I have a Bianca on the way also another expense inspired by your channel. Keep up the great content.
@@johnvuela1211 it’s a good grinder. The dial range is quite wide so dialing in is tedious. Just picked up a c40 as well this week so I’ll have more to compare later
Hi, I don't find much content comparing X-Pro or similar hand grinders with the electric ones in the same price range (Baratza Encore ESP). Hand grinders are always in a comparison with their own, but ultimately I want to know if the quality of espresso will be way better than the entry level espresso grinders (Opus, Barattza esp, etc..) and if the hand grinders perform better, then how much better (as good as Niche?) What would you go for overall in this budget?
Hy Mr @KyleRowsell let me ask you. Which would you find doing a better job K6 or XPro? I want to buy one but I'm in doubt about those two guys. Thanks a lot

Hi all! I am interested in a coffee grinder for Turkish coffee. Unfortunately, I can't find the JX Pro in Canada right now. Can you recommend the X-Pro version for it? I'm interested in your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
How does the x-pro compare to the 7burr q2? I have just started brewing coffee with a moka. I'm not planning on buying any expensive coffee machines for espresso or anything like that, but I'd love to purchase my first grinder. I'm still a student so budget is tight, but if the x-pro is worth spending the extra 50 dollars I'd do it.
Jx Pro is more traditional I believe, I think it would be worth getting if you want something a little different, JX pro is probably better suited for espresso and X for pour over / coarser brewing (due to it probably taking a lot of work or time for espresso).
Anyone know how the 1ZPresso compares to the Knock Aergrind? Very happy with my Knock as a travel grinder (got a great deal on a new old stock one when they updated it earlier this year) but not sure how this stacks up as a similarly priced all-metal hand grinder...
Seemed like an upgraded heptagonal Q2, essentially $50 for better adjustment system, build quality and slightly better ground capacity. What are your thoughts on using this with the flair pro 2? Fine adjustment makes me think it would be suitable but the slow grinding speed seems concerning.
I have both the X-Pro and pentagonal Q2. Grinding espresso takes 1:30 on the Q2 and under 1 minute on the X-pro. 19g of medium roast beans and getting a 9 bar shot.
@@keebmods oh wow, that's interesting, I thought the heptagonal Q2 grind slower than the pentagonal Q2 and if this x Pro uses similar burr with the Q2 heptagonal, I sort of expect same performance. do they both pull same 9 bar shot in roughly the same time? On that note, the Q2 pentagonal carry similar burrs to the C2 which I have, this will help me tremendously in making decision.

It was honestly stupid close. Mostly guessing. Got lucky? Haha. Nah it was slightly more defined but it coulda been confirmation bias to what I knew about the xpro and hoping it translated to the cup in this moment. It worked out. But One should not buy the xpro over c40 for cup quality alone.
Hi Kyle! will you be doing a roasting video soon? I saw you have the Bullet and the M10 on your back. I have an M10 and would be nice to watch a video of you about it! eagerly waiting :)
Kplus would be preferred for a bi-purpose grinder. Espresso and filter. If just filter I’d say go with the xpro unless you want a faster grinder. Then go k series.
Hey Kyle, would you consider this the best grinder 1ZPresso makes? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts comparing the x-pro to their more “premium” grinders like the K-Plus
@@KyleRowsell If money is no object, does one has advantage over the other for filtered, especially aeropress, in term of taste? Considering X-PRO isn't being sold in the US.
Just a heads up. Showing the bottoms of the cups to prove you got them right is useless if you have a camera cut between your sips and your guesses and your reveals.
Basically same grinders, both make good pour overs. K max is expensive but that gives you bigger burrs which makes it a faster grinder. It has three bearings so it more stable and makes better coffee obviously. So depends on your budget, if you have money to spare and want the best then buy K ultra. If you wanna save some money but want similar cups then X pro.
I recently made the decision to buy a new hand grinder as I had the Timemore Slim Plus before and the burr misalignment annoyed me. I actually made the deliberate decision against EZpresso and for Comandante, because: 1. The comandante is so widely used that many people communicate brew recipes with it. Realising that you still need to fine-tune your recipe from the number of clicks named, this is a great help experimenting with different brewers and recipes. 2. I really don’t like the look of the EZpresso grinders and the comandante with lagoon powder coating looks really nice next to the greenish/turquoise V60. 3. I wanted to support a German quality engineering company that paved the way for all of the great premium hand grinders we’re seeing these days. As the last part of this video illustrates there is a problem with companies like Comandante and Lagom investing into R&D to come up with great burrs and then seeing veeeery similar burrs being placed in chinese manufacturers models. I realise this might also be due to using parts from the same suppliers as we saw in the hand grinder showdown video. However, I feel that if we don’t support companies of which we know they spend considerable efforts into developing great burrs, we will eventually see these companies go out of business or using readily available parts as well. As we know Comandante do design their own burrs, I wanted to support that. If this means paying a premium I’m happy to do so. It’s not like the premium is going to kill me. 200€ are a lot now, but calculated over the time you use the grinder it’s relative. However I can understand anyone who is tighter on budget and would make a different decision. Just wanted to share that. I don’t think this should be about “Us first”, but about supporting what you want to support.
Just get a Kingrinder K4 (espresso focused) or K6 (all arounder). Both use 48mm burrs vs the 38mm burrs of this grinder, and also offer external grind level adjustment. They are also less expensive.

I'm looking forward to hearing the answer to this one. :)
What an answer 👏🏻 @@KyleRowsell
Keep making great content! Thanks as always!
Will do my friend!
I ordered the x-pro last week and can't wait for it to arrive, I also am not a fan of the 1zpresso branding, maybe i'll find some kind of sleeve to wrap over their branding. Bit of an upgrade from my Hario Skerton.
Just watched your K and J series video and was set on buying the K-max!
Still? K series is pretty great.
Nice review! In your opinion & tasting, which is better for pour over? The K-Max/Plus or the X-Pro?
How does it compare to the K series grinders in terms of filter brewing?
Seems the ordering from broader/more espresso oriented grind distribution to more unimodal/pourover oriented goes: JX/J-Pro/J-Max > K-Pro/K-Max > Q2/X-Pro > ZP6 special. If I can infer, the C40 falls into the K-Pro/K-Max range.
Thx Kyle! Great review as always and I just purchased an X Pro because of this video ☕
ARABICA!!!
Great review kyle and the video quality is getting better every video
Thank you!
I don’t see this one available now. What do you think of the new X-Ultra?
What grind setting did you use for the X Pro in this video, I'm curious
Hi, does Q2 and Xpro use the same burr? If not, what's the different between them(Just for flavor and taste). Actually I'm looking for a budget grinder which is closely to the Comandante C40.
Is the X Pro now the X Ultra for $169? Same grinder? I can't find X Pro anywhere. thanks.
Hello,
I'm looking for a high-quality grinder for espresso, and I want to know if the 1Zpresso J-Ultra is a good choice.
How is your experience so far?
@@johnvuela1211 it’s a good grinder. The dial range is quite wide so dialing in is tedious. Just picked up a c40 as well this week so I’ll have more to compare later
1zpresso doing amazing things in every price bracket. Love to see it
could you compare this vs Kingrinder K6 or K4? Thanks!

I wonder if those 3 little black pins in the adjustment ring would be durable for years. Seems to be a bit fragile.
Wish this was an option before I got the C40 though not disappointed , curious to see how they compare in the espresso end of the spectrum
It would be similar but with more adjustment
8:51 'shaft rigidity' is very important for sure
Great review, great product. Does it fit in the Aeropress for transport, just like the Q2?
Hi, I don't find much content comparing X-Pro or similar hand grinders with the electric ones in the same price range (Baratza Encore ESP). Hand grinders are always in a comparison with their own, but ultimately I want to know if the quality of espresso will be way better than the entry level espresso grinders (Opus, Barattza esp, etc..) and if the hand grinders perform better, then how much better (as good as Niche?) What would you go for overall in this budget?
How would the X Pro compare vs the K-Pro? Which one is better for filter coffee?
If I dont care about money and I want the best pour over coffee... theres nothing like the c40, correct?
Great info especially for guys like me who’s on a tight budget… quality and price 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Glad to hear it
hello, what do you think is better for brewing coffee in a filter, comandante, k-plus or x-pro?
I thought about the X-Pro, but ended up buying the ZP6. Getting it 3 days from now!
The flavor similar between these two grinder?
Hy Mr @KyleRowsell let me ask you. Which would you find doing a better job K6 or XPro? I want to buy one but I'm in doubt about those two guys. Thanks a lot
Uffff I was about to pull the trigger on the K max! Now I’m not sure 😢. Great video !!
Sorry! Ha
I'm overwhelmed by so many options, which one is better for aeropress between this and the jx-pro?
lol right!! just when you think you’ve narrowed down your search an found a good option…they make a comment about another option being better or see many negative reviews…I’m trying to do both pour over an espresso, an for the $150-$175 is what Im happy with. I was going to go X Pro but now I wonder if J Max is better? reeeeee
@@kdub175 If it helps, I got the jx-pro and I couldn't be happier with it. I use it mainly for espresso but it has plenty of room for the coarser side.
@@UntakenNick oh yeah? Okay, well it just adds another option haha I figured the X pro was better than the JX, an then above that we have the K Max & the K Ultra…Idk 😅 like you said too many options. But I guess I can eliminate the K Ultra as it’s basically the same as the K Max, an then it’s up to wether or not I wanna spend $150 or $280 which I rather stay at $150…so yeah gonna be between the JX & X Pro, but Im glad to hear you’re happy.
Hi all! I am interested in a coffee grinder for Turkish coffee. Unfortunately, I can't find the JX Pro in Canada right now. Can you recommend the X-Pro version for it? I'm interested in your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
Recommended grind settings for strong Aeropress (20g coffee for around 200ml water)?
Did he say that the JX grinds way faster for espresso or the XP? Little confused about that last findings bit.
What grinder would you suggest for espresso if the flavor profile of the X-Pro sounds great?
Where is it available for purchase?
How does the x-pro compare to the 7burr q2? I have just started brewing coffee with a moka. I'm not planning on buying any expensive coffee machines for espresso or anything like that, but I'd love to purchase my first grinder. I'm still a student so budget is tight, but if the x-pro is worth spending the extra 50 dollars I'd do it.
It is really hard to find an online shop, where I actually could buy the X Pro in Germany and/or Austria.
How is it compares to KINGrinder K4 which has coated Burr and made for espresso?
Have you thought about how it compares with the K series?
For Expresso will you recommend this grinder ?
Kyle, I need your help, what’s the best grinder for Aeropress? Nobody has made a video on this subject. This shout is from the U.K…
Would you say it's worth getting if you already own a JX-Pro?
Jx Pro is more traditional I believe, I think it would be worth getting if you want something a little different, JX pro is probably better suited for espresso and X for pour over / coarser brewing (due to it probably taking a lot of work or time for espresso).
Ive been using the jx for a year now. Works pretty good. Using 60 clicks or so for most lightly roasted single origin beans
I dailied this grinder for over a month for espresso. I have the flair classic and there’s no problem.
@@brattingprincess great to hear, how do you find the dialing and grinding experience?
@@trungdchu the q2 grinds pretty fast and have no problem with 99% of beans. It’s actually my designated filter grinder now.
I got my X-pro last week, together with my first V60. Ive only been into espresso until now. My pour over-coffee seems kinda weak so far though. What grind setting do you use?
I find myself between 1.2-2 depending on the coffee.
@@KyleRowsell oh, whoops!!! I just understood what 1.2-2 meant! Hahaha. I've been grinding at 2.1-2 to 2.2-2... thinking there's not much of a difference. Man. I'm so dense! Lol. I just went all the way to zero, real zero! *Sigh*... I'm going to try brewing right now at 1.5-0 to see how big of a difference that will be... Lol . So glad I went through many of your responses to people! I've been so tired lately that my brain was shut off. :)
@@KyleRowsell Yeup. Made a difference larger than what I was experiencing, lol! It's very nice!
Wanted to just say how impressive it is that you managed to identify the cups. What was the subtle differences that gave it away for the C40 v ZXP?
Flavour clarity
It was honestly stupid close. Mostly guessing. Got lucky? Haha. Nah it was slightly more defined but it coulda been confirmation bias to what I knew about the xpro and hoping it translated to the cup in this moment. It worked out. But One should not buy the xpro over c40 for cup quality alone.
@@KyleRowsell I'll keep my thoughts on why they should be the ZXP to myself
@@skatcat31 why?
Hi Kyle! will you be doing a roasting video soon? I saw you have the Bullet and the M10 on your back. I have an M10 and would be nice to watch a video of you about it! eagerly waiting :)
In the next couple months yes!
How would you say it compares in the budget C40 killer convo vs the Q2 heptagonal and Kingrinder K6?
It is the c40 killer but in a different body.
Thanks!!! Awesome video as always. How would you compare the Xpro to the Kplus?
Kplus would be preferred for a bi-purpose grinder. Espresso and filter. If just filter I’d say go with the xpro unless you want a faster grinder. Then go k series.
@@KyleRowsell thanks! That’s exactly what I was curious about.
The x-pro va the k-ultra for espresso?
Hi, how does it compare to k max?
Which would you choose Comandante or X-Pro?
Thanks for this Kyle! Super helpful. I'm starting to think hard about a foray into espresso. I'm thinking an all manual setup and would love it to be
Why not the ROK grinder, too?
Flair or Robot over the ROK. I heard it’s okay, but personally you have the budget.
I have the K-Max and very happy.
Glad to hear it
Thanks for yet another awesome video!
You’re welcome!
Thanks for bringing this grinder to my attention Kyle, there goes my pocket money again....
do you order from Rogue Wave Coffee often? I usually order from amazon but Rogue's prices look a lot better
Rogue wave is great!!
I'm stuck between 1ZPRESSO X-PRO and timemore x lite
Have you tried the zp6 special?
Hey Kyle, would you consider this the best grinder 1ZPresso makes? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts comparing the x-pro to their more “premium” grinders like the K-Plus
K plus is more premium with a few extra features. But this is easily best value for me
@@KyleRowsell If money is no object, does one has advantage over the other for filtered, especially aeropress, in term of taste? Considering X-PRO isn't being sold in the US.
Just a heads up. Showing the bottoms of the cups to prove you got them right is useless if you have a camera cut between your sips and your guesses and your reveals.
Facts. While I believe him, it was kinda pointless to take so much time to show us after all those camera cuts
Sounds like a great pour-over grinder.
It is!
Does Q2 have the same burr set? I been thinking to buy second (better) grinder than my Q2 but maybe it is Ok...
I believe these burrs are similar, but not exactly the same, it's likely based on the Q2 with Heptagonal(?) burrs.
Nice nice! Would it be difficult to custom replace the grip?
I don't think so. But why would you?
@@KyleRowsell Because customization is fun and this 1Z logotype on this brown textured rubber is just not sexy
I own c40, love it,, will commodante update c40 in future??
Seems c40 needs updated?
I owm mk4 red sonya, will there be a mk5??
Thx
Agreed. Patiently waiting but patience running thin.
@@KyleRowsell love your work much thx for all you do
Should I get X-Pro or K Max? Mainly doing pour over.
Great info, thanks
You’re welcome!
I recently made the decision to buy a new hand grinder as I had the Timemore Slim Plus before and the burr misalignment annoyed me. I actually made the deliberate decision against EZpresso and for Comandante, because:
Norwood Dam
Bro you got the midwest look going hard!
Not sure if that's a good or bad things lol
@@KyleRowsell good thing kyle, good thing!!
Woo! Go Ply! And thanks for making this video :)
My pleasure!
Just get a Kingrinder K4 (espresso focused) or K6 (all arounder). Both use 48mm burrs vs the 38mm burrs of this grinder, and also offer external grind level adjustment. They are also less expensive.
If your goal was to convince me to buy yet another hand grinder that I probably don't need, mission accomplished
Sorry
