Another great demo and painting David! Love your comment about painting being fun to do. I'm a painter and composer/musician and I always need to remind myself why I create art. I have watched this a number of times and learn something each time. I would appreciate more information on the laminated aluminium that you are painting on. I have never seen this used before and would like to try it but cannot find the product without more detail from you. Thank you.
As I recall, these aluminum artist panels are marketed under the brand name Dibond -- and David was the first artist I ever saw to use them, so I had to look it up. ;.D
Hi! Thank you so much; we are delighted you enjoyed it. Here is additional information from our Supply is on our website: www.daviddunlop.com. Kind regards, David and Connie Supports, Canvases and Other Surfaces. David paints and has painted on a variety of surfaces. a. He recently has been painting on enameled aluminum composite panels: white, silver and gold. They are made and marketed as Dibond, CompBond, and AlumaBond and the suppliers will vary depending on where you live. You can also check with local sign painting companies. You can call Laminators Inc. to request materials as well. (www.laminatorsinc.com/) b. David also paints on and has painted on quadruple primed Belgian linen (Artfix L84U), portrait canvas (linen) pads, and smooth canvas pads. c. David also paints on acrylic varnished watercolor paper - the smoother the surface the better. He varnishes the watercolor paper, clayboards, gesso boards and inexpensive canvas pads, stretched canvases or other panels with Golden’s Polymer Gloss Varnish. The watercolor paper he uses is a 140 lb. hot press and Bristol Plate paper.
I watched this video with great interest and I have a couple of questions. 1. Why do you paint on aluminum with no gesso does the paint tend to lift off over time and how long does this take to dry? 2. Do you ever use Liquin?
HI, terrymeeway8464 - Thank you for your question. I have found that the oil paint binds to the metal surface without the need for gesso or other layer in between the metal and the paint. In my experience it has not delaminated or lifted off over time. I place my paintings outside in the sun to help them dry, and it all depends up the thickness of the paint and how much oil I use. I only use linseed or walnut oil and I do not used other binders and thinners. Kind regards, David and Connie
Just wonderful. Do you recomend the brushed alu, or with a white background? Just mezmerised of all - and where you gathered up all this information. Amazing! 🙏
Dear adelinalienrexhaj5014 - I use many different surfaces, and I enjoy quadruple primed Belgian linen, gold leaf, the silver and gold brushed aluminum, copper, white baked on enamel aluminum composite - and many other surfaces - depending upon the paintings and what I am thinking about. Dear parsleypowersmith5692 - Thank you for your question. I paint on many different surfaces, from quadruple primed Belgian linen, paper, copper, single sheet aluminum, a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core, and sometimes I paint over older paintings on all of these surfaces. It really depends upon my painting, and different surfaces give different effects. Some are harder surfaces and you can make different types of marks with your paint brushes, squeegees , paper towels, and other tools. I always experiment and learn from all of these paintings. Good luck with your painting! Thank you for writing. Kind regards, David and Connie

Thank you too for watching and for writing! great to hear from you. kind regards, David and Connie
Thanks as always. So much accomplished in an hour. Interesting how a lot of the original loose treeline was retained as the painting progressed. Was that Max in some of the episodes of 'Landscapes Through Time'?
HI, StephenMarkTurner - Thank you AGAIN for watching and for writing to us. We appreciate your comments. Yes, that was Max in some of the episodes - he is a wonderful talented painter! Kind regards, David and Connie
If you were painting on canvas would you go in with the oil straight away or would you need to use an oil/turps mix?
Dear pamelaharrison4843 - Thank you for watching our program and for writing to us. I am using linseed oil, I do not use solvents for painting medium. I sometimes clean my brushes with Soysolv. Good luck with your painting! Kind regards, David and Connie
How do you fix the aluminum to your easel? I expected it to come loose when the blue tape was removed.
HI, weizergeezer - I use tape that is rolled in a circle to affix the aluminum to the board. I then remove it later. Thank you very much for watching and for writing to us! It means so much to us to hear from you. Good luck with your painting. Kind regards, David and Connie
You are really well read.
What type of oil are you using to dip your brushes in?

How did you prepare your aluminum panel?
Dear rolisonpaint3 - Thank you for watching and for writing. I paint directly on the aluminum panel without any additional preparation. Good luck with your painting! Kind regards, David and Connie
You talk about the substrate, i'm confused, do you prime it? Raw?
Hello, MarieDuprie - Thank you for watching our program and for writing! With this painting I simply painted directly on the the aluminum. I did not prime it or put any other barrier between the surface of the aluminum panel and the painting. I use the bare aluminum and also white enameled and gold and silver surfaces. Good luck with your painting! All the best, David and Connie
Does the oil paint not peal off the surface when it dries?
Dear roslynwilton2443 - Thank you for watching and for writing. No, I have found that the oil paint does not peel off the surface when it dries. Kind regards, David and Connie

You are doing with paint what a musician does when he improvises.
He knows the music, the notes, the way music works...so well, that he can trust his inner self to create.
I'm not there yet.
HI, renzo6490 - Hello again! Thank you so much for your very kind comments - we are really happy that you enjoyed it! These are fascinating issues for life and painting. Thank you for watching and for writing to us - we appreciate it! Good luck with your painting. Kind regards, David and Connie
What kind of aluminum panel?
Dear @ronaldshepard1739 - Thank you for your question. This is painted on a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core. Good luck with your painting! Thank you for writing. Kind regards, David and Connie
Hello! To me looks like wool clothes pattern in some areas; as you were saying. Try with classical music. I think the brushes are too sharp.
Try with the roll of paper under your jittering arm next time😁
Can anybody help with information about the alumenon surface? 🎵🍂🍁🎶
Dear lisengel2498 - This is painted on a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, OmegaBond or Compbond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core. You can buy this at some art stores now, as well as local sign companies. Good luck with your painting! Thank you for writing. Kind regards, David and Connie
Why are all the trees leaning downhill?
Explain about aluminium please
Wow.

Do you have Alexa?... If it's in your studio. U could just say"Alexa play (insert song) and it'll start playing the song. U don't have to stop painting.😊
I was able to count your moving fingers !

Erstaunlich, dass diese Technik & Malerei so gut ankommt...... Die Breit Pinsel & Wischer Technik wird ausgezeichnet beherrscht und dennoch geflt mir diese Malerei nicht.
Dennoch Danke, sehr interessant...
