Possibly my favourite Spearfishing trip in Australia & first Red Emperor

- I'm going back to Australia in Autumn for a few weeks and that got me reminiscing about all the spearfishing I've done there. I remembered this trip I did to the southern Great Barrier Reef where we encountered a myriad of species such as Red Emperor, Red Throat Emperor, Maori Cod, Spanish Mackerel, Barramundi & Black Jewfish. Thanks to Tim McDonald for doing a bit of the filming this day because the batteries on everyones GoPro's were dead. Also for putting everyone onto incredible fish as usual! I just binge watched a ton of your videos. Superb editing, music and content. I had no prior interest in Spear Fishing but you kept my interest and I learned a lot. Thanks for the great entertainment Dan!
I love it how the red fishes' color pops as the diver ascends with it back to surface
Don't have enough words to describe your videos.. Just a whole bunch of feelings.. Simply outstanding footage, skill, narration, clarity & information:
A Gold Mine..
Thank you sir 🙏🏻
"I wanted to get a black jew of my own"
- Daniel Mann 2019
Lol...
It sounds so terrible out of context
Its currently -45 Celsius where I live, and watching this video really helps with the seasonal depression. It's too cold here to even go ice fishing!
The quality of this trip was unreal, what a memorable experience!
THE BEST CONTENT ANYONE COULD LOOK FOR. Totally underrated channel.
Editing is like worth millions of views
Cheers Kaj!
Daniel! You Be Blessed!
To be surrounded by such Beautiful Places with such Great opportunities to Spear Fish, is just so awesome!!!!
Seeing this, reminds me of my Great Friend Craig, who was going to San Diego State University, in California USA, and how he had Speared a Large Grouper, and all of his Friends had to help him, each taking Turns getting drafted around by it, and Ima sure after an Hour or two, with no Signs of Tiring, they all had to give up on it! Wish I was there with you!
You are VERY privileged! Took up spearfishing about two years ago with my son and can't wait to hit the water. I usually dive around Eastern Long Island, USA and there is not that much variety as you have. As a culinary arts instructor, I enjoy the food you prepare with your catch. Try a mayo/sriracha blend with the panko fried fish, very delicious! Thanks for providing such educational videos...
Cheers Ralph!
Hi I’m looking to start spearfishing this spring I was hoping to know about good diving spots on long Long Island that you suggest.
@@jamestomlinson5869 And give up my secrets, are you kidding? No, just messing with you. It depends on which part of the Island your talking about. I'm from the North Fork (currently live in DE) and I know that shoreline pretty well. Last summer I dove around Plum Island, Horton's Point.. South fork, Ponquoque Bridge, Hampton's (watch the current), and some others are good. I'm going to go out to Montalk this summer and give that a try. If you have a 4-5 mil suit, you can fish the Black Fish season and you'll fill your bag on the North Shore! On a safety note, I'd suggest you take a safety course and dive with a buddy. It is fun, but be safe as well...
JenRalph Freeman I’m on the south shore and my dive partner will be my father who also happens to be in the cooking industry I am getting my equipment this spring I like to go to Smiths’s point and Shinnacock.
Those Mulloways are just amazing!Great vid Daniel!!!
Thanks Dimos. These are a slightly different species to mulloway we get in the northern parts of Australia. Much higher dorsal fun and different shapes tail. Oddly enough the ear bones from the black Jew are much larger than the equal sized mulloway.
@@DanielMann oh ok i thought it was just another name for the same fish! Thanks for clarifying that out Daniel, good to know!
Hope i'll get one someday!
Did it again Dan the Mann! What an amazing couple of days diving. Hope the conditions are kind to you this year when you come back for a visit
I'm a fairly new scuba driver I have never done spear fishing but your videos are inspiring and now I have a huge interest on this activity
100% awesome. When you chose the jew over the barra in the beginning i thought you were on something. Kept watching to see you go back for it. Legendary
Awesome video as usual mate!
Thanks Darron.
What amazes me in your videos is how many different types of really big fish there are to spear in Australia, (or at least in the places you fish). Very impressive.
The species diversity is quite extraordinary.
@@DanielMann And big species!
It's 1:50 am got to get up at 5 am, got up to piss heard the bell and It's Daniel, what a great video 👍👍 made me hungry listening to you talk about how good these fish are to eat Aaarrr..lol. Thanks man once again 👍👍, alright going to bed now.
Sleep tight mate 😂
Go to bed
Your One of the most Awesome Spearfisher in the planet..Keep it Up❤❤💪.. love u man from Batanes Philippines💖
sick bro. im a. kiwi n watch as soon as ur vids come out. can u do a breath hold vid so we can see how u do it compared to us and other speros? big ups mate
Loved those Black Jew in Darwin Harbour when I lived there. So thick on the harbour wrecks some times it was hard to see the wreck structure. And you are right about them not being so timid. Have actually had to push them aside to make my way once or twice. Great vid as usual Dan.
Mitch.
This isn’t Mitch who used to make floats is it???
Could be. This is'nt the Dan who used to make my snapper sinkers is it? :)

Touché
My biggest pleasure Daniel, I really love your videos 🤩🤩😉🔝👍ciao ciao
Great video dan, I laughed so hard when josh missed that fish, I’ve screen shot one of your videos where you swam up to a huge school of dew fish and captioned it “ you’d still miss” and sent it to my brother, he always misses
On the Tim McDonald episode of #noobspearo he mentions that exact moment I think? Barra and a black jew in the cave and Josh misses both or something like that. Or was that a different time?
Are you asking me that question or Daniel?
That was it Rhys 😂
Great to see you back is Aus! I’m so happy that I started watching your videos, you helped me get into spear fishing and I love your videos! Can’t wait to see what else you get up to!! 🐟🦈
I don’t think I’ve ever dropped an anchor in water that deep never mind free dived to the bottom. 😀. You guys are such excellent shots. Always near the head. No tail shots. Impressive. The only spear fishing I ever did was in Belize and Florida using a Hawaiian sling.
Just rewatched this video, holy crap the footage you got was incredible! The way you put the whole video together from the commentary to the editing really shows how amazing this trip was 😍 How did you meet Tim? :)
I'm two months behind everyone else here @Daniel Mann but wanted to say I very much enjoy your work to share your life's experiences with us on RUclips.
I have no clue how much editing goes into your cooking videos, but they too, are top notch. Perhaps you can produce something that describes how you got into your hobby and developed to the point of being a competitor and world traveler?
Regular folks like myself did stupid things like joining the Marine Corps so we could travel..🙃
You do excellent videography and editing I must add! If I was just, oh I don't know..thirty years younger? I'd love to learn how to freedive and spearfish. For now these videos are serving to curb my foolish desires quite well. 👌👍
Your edits are simply amazing! and the water clarity! You can barely see the tip of your spear some days in Nebraska!! Super Jealous!
One of the most action packed video of yours, loved it
Wow, what a great last spot.
Big fish everywhere.😍
It’s a special spot indeed!
Love it Dan! Headed to Brissy in March from Hobart, man this makes me excited! Thanks for all the content, absolutely epic!
That will be a big change in underwater landscape for you!
@@DanielMann For sure! No more kelp, more reef and a lot more vis!
Still loving the content
Glad to see your still going round the globe
And sharing it with us
Can’t wait for the next vid keep it up
Footage is from 2014 to be honest but always trying to get around the globe somewhere 😬
Awesome footage! Love those head shots! You helped to inspire me! Great editing ...
Just bought a boat. Will be starting up soon after recovering from hip surgery. Live in Southern California.
Love you bro! Much respect from someone new to the sport.
What a banger video man! I loved it so much!
Thanks dude!
soo, watching (like everyone else here) countless spearfishing videos, compared to other youtube spearos I can see how quick you are from when aiming to shooting the fish. I guess it's a-lot of practice and a bit of confidence too. I'm moving to Brisbane in July and hopefully I'll get to be involved in spearfishing around there! Keep on posting!
What a good place to Spears fishing. Great videos bro. Australian is one a good country to living on.
Some nice looking fish there bud I'm getting addicted to your blogs lol 👍🏻🇬🇧❤️
Hey Daniel, have you ever thought of makibg a trip here to Saint Petersburg, Florida and compets in the St Pete Open? World's largest spearfishing tourney, top-notch tourist destination, come on!!!!! Lol Hey mate, I live here and Saint Petersburg, Florida really is an awesome City and the St Pete open it is an amazing and absolutely enormous tournament! It is a spectacle to see. Being the world's largest spearfishing tournament it is something to behold.

Such a dream video. Now I absolutely want to go spearfishing in Australia ❤️🐟

Awesome video as usual. Loving the Australian content, as a noob I'm looking forward to the upcoming autumn season too
Bloody teffrick mate, big reds and trout glore
Wow amazing we don't get fish like that in Cornwall. Your videos are getting me so stoked.
Still some good fishing to be had in Cornwall.

Mate you are such a bloody LEGEND!!! Ever since I started watching your videos I have been encouraged more than ever to be in the water spearfishing when ever I can!! Thanks for being a LEGEND and I would love to meet you one day and say this to you in person! Your a a role model for me:)
EDIT: Thankyou so muck for replying and liking it Daniel!! :) P.S. when you come to Australia where you going? You should come to Geraldton in Western Australia
Thanks for the support man 🙏🏻
Love that I subbed while he’s only starting to catch his wave. I give him 3-4 months before he starts to near a million subs.
One or the best video I've seen on spear fishing
Epic video mate! Mint conditions, living the dream!
Mate, i just pulled the boat out 25min ago and whatching this makes me want to go right back out. Great stuff
Any luck today Andrew?
Got our 2 crays each and a few dinner plate sized abalone. The fish in qld always make me think we miss our down here at the ass end of Australia, but maybe its not that bad. Cheers
Been following you for awhile now, and never disappointed. Another awesome vid mate. Keep em coming.
Thank you sir.
Hi Daniel Mann I love your vids so much. Plz make them more often because I really like watching them.👍🐟🍴

Rad video. I’m stuck on land for a few weeks with a blown eardrum so your videos are on repeat. Keep it up.
Last day of work tomorrow. Gonna get me some under water Therapy. Good stuff as always!!! Thanks for the upload
Champagne Spearing Dan, thanks for posting.
Is it possible to make a video on you guys cleaning/ cooking up your catches?
Respect for someone who catches their own food.
Amazing stuff mate, how awesome are reefies! 👌
Yeeew i’m a brissy spearo as well, went out last week, weather was great vis was incredible like 25m, agree its the best time of year
Hi Daniel I can non going to put a like to this video but absolutely stunning. Well done Daniel from your Italian colleague 🤩🤩🔝👍👋👋ciao ciao
Grazie mille Mario 🙏🏻
Two reasons to dive Australia 1. The Jew fish 2. The lobsters.
I hope to dive for both one day. Great video my friend
Awesome video man, it fells so good to se such high content quality in your videos. Btw you gotta stop talking about how good they taste i´m sitting here and getting hungry xD
Thanks man!
Tim’s a legend
You are the most underrated youtuber on this platform
Very kind of you Alexander
Another great one! Keep em comming
Amazing! Lots of Love from Africa!
Epic as always Dan!
Love this video. Get keen it’s Barra season 🤟🏻
Awsome video Dan love your work mate
Cheers Sue!
Awesome vid to hype up your trip
Looks so good down Australia.
It is so different here
It’s not a bad place to dive.
Lovely, Nanna
Awesome video Dan!
Shark at 3:31? can someone help me identify it please? is it an Oceanic white tip? Also great video!
Not an oceanic white tip. They have very rounded pectoral fins. I think it’s just a run of the mill grey reef shark.
@@DanielMann thank you
great job as always
One word....Noosa. Nice vid. Enjoy your time back in Aust.
It’s a nice place but pretty damn expensive these days.
@@DanielMann Not as expensive as the UK!!! Great fishing. Why do you support Amazon? Bezos is a C***
Seriously though. Great vid and if you get a chance please check out my Solo Angler content. It will make you homesick.
I use amazon because no one else can offer the service. I’ve never met him before so can’t form an accurate opinion of him.
Having lived in both countries I’d say Australia is much more expensive for groceries, food & alcohol compared to the U.K. I spent $50 just to make a charcuterie board last time I was in Australia. Something that would cost me £10 here and be of better quality.
Watched the snapper video, you are a natural on camera!
Super keen to plan a trip up to QLD, hopefully I get get up there this year. Great video mate
Was that somewhere near Brisvegas? I didn’t think Barra came down that far south? Same with black jew. Must have been up north of Brisbane somewhere, interested to know, roughly...
I’ve seen black jew & barra speared one the Sunshine Coast and shot finger mark in Moreton bay. Somewhere north of that 🤐
Daniel Mann wozers...
That’s cool, looks very likely our family will be moving up that way for work sooner or later, looking forward to the warm water a lovely change from Victoria. I just got a taste of tropical water in New Calendonia a couple weeks back, just freediving, no spearfishing and it was so nice. Clear warm waters and best of all more fish. Your videos make me wanna move up north sooner!

Absolutely awesome video mate, any tips for a new diver on how to hold my breath for so long it’s crazy how deep you can go and for so long under water it’s amazing 😎
Amazing trip! Congratations
Thanks Pablo!
Do a video on the cray diving in Australia, the bugs down there are insanely big. And dont forget the abalone.
That is a serious depth....
It wasn’t too deep, seen much deeper dives in the Mediterranean for much less fish!
