This is basically my "Silent Hill 4: The Room Endings Guide" video. The other thing you have to do (clear the apartment of hauntings) is pretty self explanatory. If a part 2 is requested I can make a video on some more strats to deal with some particularly troublesome rooms.
This video is part of a 100% Silent Hill 4: The Room guide that you can check out below. In the let's play/walkthrough I get the best ending on hard mode and show where all the items are, except a missed Holy Candle in Forest World 2nd Time sadly (its position is noted in the comments on the video though). A 10.2 Star guide is also provided. I've also done walkthroughs of Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3 as well, all with 10 star videos and extras videos provided.

6:42 - 7:05 ***Video error*** I'm not 99% sure that the holy candle glitch doesn't work; I am 100% sure that the holy candle glitch doesn't work :) And Gumheads attack Eileen, too, but they attack her very slowly and infrequently and shouldn't be anything to worry about. Eileen will almost always get the first hit on them if she has a weapon, or will outrun them if she has no weapon.
6:06 Slightly inaccurate information; Eileen wont take damage if Henry is LOCKED-ON to a target. She can still take damage if Henry isn't targeting anything.
Now I can't stop imagining the monsters being like, "Oh I'm sorry, I was trying to attack Henry. Are you ok Eileen?"

Just unequip her weapon, cheese the AI, never leave alone in a room, MAYBE use the holy candles on her and BINGO! Piece of cake 🎂

Thank you for clarifying about the candles, I wasn’t sure if they worked or not and was thinking about redoing a whole stretch before the umbilical cord so you saved me having to deal with that. It’s also helpful to know because next time I play I won’t be wasting candles on her.

Nossa mano muito bom vc e demais finalmente vejo alguem que tenha cuidado em proteger a Eilen normalmente todo mundo só esbarra nela e equipa ela com alguma arma oq eu acho bem cruel pelo fato de ela estar com a perna e o braço machucado uma personagem que me apeguei bastante gosto tanto dos 2 Henry e Eilen mais e isso cara irei assistir cada gameplay sua muito bom
Is it possible you could go a little more in depth about how the candles don't work and why you would even use them normally? Why do they heal her if it's not permanent? Is there ANY utility in healing her ? Just to get her to go faster or something?
The *real* reason holy candles heal Eileen, but only temporarily, is because of continuity and story reasons. Eileen is cursed, just like Henry's apartment and the ghost victims. Holy Candles get rid of hauntings in Henry's apartment, but not permanently. Any haunting cleared in the apartment has a chance of coming back, just like the ghost victims; any ghost victim you disable with a holy candle will eventually come back as well. Nothing holy candles do is permanent since it would be way too overpowered that way (imagine being able to permanently kill ghosts and permanently clear hauntings with Holy Candles).
So, it only makes sense for the Holy Candle to temporarily heal Eileen.
Do Holy Candles have their uses on Eileen? Absolutely. They are a worst-case-scenario item for her. Healing Eileen before you're trying to get past a hoard of enemies will make it so Eileen won't do possessed behaviors that will make getting past the enemies way more troublesome.

Sorry the necro comment but one thing I hate A LOT ln a game, its escorting npcs, specially backtracking for them... it always lead to disaster on 1st go, specially if they toss you bait "weapons" for Eileen here. She lost it on the woods on my only playthrough at hard because navigating there was hell even sealing the flame dude without her around to bother me. Didnt even minded her health after I saw red shit going bigger and babbling stuff and I just pressed on because NO BACKTRACKING. Sorry im fucked up on my head to deal with lame npc companions specially a "damsel" in distress.

It's pretty tough. You can also defeat him quickly with the rusty axe, and it's arguably easier to do. After you stab the 8 spears into the Conjurer you need to make sure Walter is in a position where his back is against a wall.

Those are on hard mode, but the strats are completely identical between difficulties.
I did the umbilical cord trick in my first playthrough and it totally felt like it worked. Is my brain playing tricks on me?

I rewatched this on my Oled TV when I got home, is this the PC Gog version or being emulated on PCSX? Because it looks really good! It’s crisp and the higher contrast is nice to look at. I’ve only ever play SH4 on a CRT tube TV because I don’t have component cables 😭
I'm playing on PCSX2, emulates perfectly! By far the best way to play the game imo. Silent Hill 4 is a washed out game in general, but if you go into the options, select brightness, and follow the instructions (I think it says to adjust so it's black below the red line) then the game looks a lot better. My settings are 3 brightness and 7 contrast, for example. The room at 1:30 is brightened and contrast boosted in editing so it can be easier to see what to do, though.
@@RuminInLove I’ll check it out, though I’m terrible at getting emulators to work properly 😅 Ive heard by speedrunners of SH4 they like playing the Xbox version via the Xbox 360, but for some reason it has graphical problems like characters mouths clipping and bugged shadows
The Xbox version is probably the least popular version to speedrun, actually. The PC version is the most popular due to fast room movement and some minor menu tech.
@@culturedonnanoko Are you talking about aneternalenigma at GDQ 2017? Yeah that was the PC version he was playing. I don't think Xbox has any speedrun benefits over ps2 or pc but I might be wrong. Load times don't factor into a Silent Hill 4 speedrun since the time doesn't count the loads.

So I been doing a perfect half run so far. Grabbed all the items i could. MOMENT i unlocked Eileen I saved. Then perfectly went through the subway. She accidently got hit by the wall demon thing once. And I accidently charged hit her trying to attack one down the escalator. Now im in the forest world. Once i got to the middle I noticed her back is... Bloody. Not too bloody, but not crisp like you very first seen her. I thought i was careful as hell protecting her, how is she hurt so bad ALREADY? or am i a bit paranoid? The only time I had to leave her was the subway because of the ladder. But i quickly got back to her to escort her after. Thanks dude
So I just put a candle down and it cleaned her up.... But we both know how we trust candles for her health. I wonder if she just can NEVER get hit 0.o.... Good thing i saved RIGHT as I unlocked her
OK one last response (sorry dude not trying to spam your chat xD just for future people to read) Healing her kept her not as bloody as she was "even though it was kinda early imo". Before I just left her did all my stuff grab her and go on to the next zone. Then at the end I tried healing her with candles then did the boss. Maybe this time will be different.. Wish me luck!
One of the weirdest quirks about Eileen is that possession will only occur on her after you complete Subway World 2nd Time. So you can go through all of Hospital and Subway World 2 without knowing how possessed she actually is, which is kinda annoying lol. I'm unsure how she could have gotten possessed from just a few Wallman hit, that doesn't seem right... Either way, it is best to kill all the Wallmen on one of the escalator sides, then bring Eileen down when there are no Wallmen to attack her (even speedruns do this). Goodluck!!
Question: I used a holy candle in the last room before the bad boss yet Eileen shown up injured.
Does this happen because I left monsters in the rooms she'd have to backtrack through or did I do something wrong?
I've been taking care of her, leaving her in safe places and using holy candles on her every now and then.

The holy candle temporarily heals Eileen but she will always revert back to whatever possession state she was in, and this is true for the Walter boss as well.

I know when I had SH4 on XBOX I did it and it worked.
Unless the Gog version was upgraded in some ways that the 'glitch' doesn't work.
I'm going to do some more testing. Gonna try clearing the rooms and seeing if that fixes my issue because I thought I had this game. Could be that the glitch was something unique and isn't in the GOG version for whatever reason?
Which kinda sucks...I'd need to replay the whole game just to get the good ending -_-
@@KanaTokisho I'm sorry but your testing is going to be futile. The glitch isn't unique to any specific version of the game. I've never seen the glitch work in any let's play of this game. It's always "The glitch didn't work for me so I ended up reloading an earlier save to take better care of Eileen" or "It kinda looks like it's working... Is it? I'm not sure." But it's never "it worked!"
Sometimes they may think it works when in reality it's just a placebo.

Play the game and you'll figure it out lol. You just need to kinda... Leave her behind.
