I'm actually really looking forward to this one. It will be great to build a new buggy design and it has a BBX feel. The fact that you can have blue or red decals it reminds me of the old days with the Tyco Turbo Hopper when you could have 27MHZ or 75MHZ so that you could race them with a friend and yet the car would look a little different. Great video! Thanks for showing it all.
Great to see Bellcrank steering on an entry level Tamiya buggy, and that moulded polycarbonate body should be tough as nails. I'll have to get one for The Pile.
I will definitely be buying one to use for this summer. I really like the way you made this video for the new people coming into the hobby , seeing as this is more for them. One thing I like to do these days is to make up the oil shocks first and just leave them for an hour or two to get all those air bubbles out.
Seems like a budget version of the BBX makes sense if they are supporting a race series but I would like to see a new 4WD buggy from Tamiya. Thanks for the build video 🙏
Nice, fixes some shortcomings the DT-03 had. Making the front end bolt on again saves you from the problems that when you have a crash related damage on the front you have to replace the whole chasis, which is a lot of work. Also looks to be more resistant to frontal crashes than DT-03, which are pretty frequent for young/new drivers. Hopefully the connection to the chasis holds up.
Saw the debut of this a couple of days ago and had been wondering what it's market was compared to say the BBX. Thanks for explaining that obscure German race series. Now I don't have to scratch my head and can move along.
I really like the look of this kit, seems like a great build, and I think it looks awesome! I'm very tempted to get one, especially after seeing this build video.....
Different, great looking buggy! Good pricing. Love the type of video you put up Greg! Will love seeing this model run! (Hope you're feeling well, your voice doesn't sound all that great. :p)
It’s a good release for Tamiya, like that they’re helping out a long standing race program to boot. The video was a good change up. Thanks. I’ve actually been sick since last November. Between being so sick and the cold weather, making videos has been tough.
Great video, intresting new model ! Also amazing that you have built the car already. I presume the ESC came with the kit just for you/earlier reviwers only - do you happen to know if the torque tune motor will be really in the kit in the retail version too ? Anyway thanks for the great video, and fully agreeing that this is a cool model and can't wait for it.
Kind of like the BBX this car reminds me of the good old Tamiya Rough Rider (Buggy Champ for you ReRe folks). Think I will have to pick one of these up.
I always enjoy your videos. Greg, I am wondering about batteries. The DT-03 could fit a Spectrum 2S hard case battery. Do you think the same battery could fit? 4000mah is what I think I have. It can be tricky getting lipo into Tamiyas.
In a nutshell, this DT04 is more beginner-type and affordable. The BBX is more premium, uses TRF gearbox and comes with a lot more adjustments. The BBX is more fiddly and demanding to build, too.
Das war auch mein erster Gedanke. Das bedeutet dann auch das die Dt-03 nicht nehr aufwändig umgebaut werden müssen, sondern es passende Radträger direkt von Tamiya gibt.
Here in the UK this is £150, For £110 I can buy Maverick Phantom 4WD RTR with battery, And also a few other 4WD cars RTR for the same price, My real point is that all of them cars, No matter how cheap they are, Come fully ball raced, Not supplying bearings back in the late 70'S when I started was OK, But it's not the late 70'S anymore, It's 2025, And it's not acceptable anymore, Especially at that price.
Can't help it, but look soulless and cheap. Sure, there had always been entry level buggies with plastic plastic plastic, but even the Grasshopper/Hornet had soul. The plastic parts are WAY to dominant. The Wild One was cheap, too, but didn't look like it. I get it, that Tamiya lives from selling masses of cheap models and the kids then going on to buying metal upgrade and tuning parts and a year later jump to a better model, but it's no excuse for the toy look, no matter how good it may run with the oversized dampers (if replaced by oil ones). Why not do a sensible upgrade to the really good ol' classics?
They took the dt02, changed the central piece with a ta02 bathtub, still no ball bearings, philipps hardware... it is ok for a starter but i will be very happy if they realease also a pro series like the tt02br with a decent setup and not just aluminium upgrades
Never been a Tamiya fan, always seemed toy grade. Too many plastic parts that are susceptible to breakage and wear. Other than their overseas touring card, you never see anything Tamiya on the podium.
@WickeD72 Yep, like I said, other than some of their overseas touring cars, nothing else is seen on a podium. Everything else besides some of their old school aluminum builds like the Sand Scorcher and Bruiser are for childrens toys, and even then, they simply dont compete.
@@SpaceCoastStreetRippers They are expensive for what they are, no full bearing sets ( most models ). They get you with the Nostalgia factor, I'm a bit of a sucker for them.
@Brad1961 Yeah I get the nostalgia factor, I was recently bitten myself with the Kyosho Beetle. However, as much fun as it was to build like the one I built over 35 years ago, I wish now I wouldve built something more modern and durable. 80's design and technology just isnt up for brushless power and speeds. Tamiyas stuff wouldve been broken before the first battery was discharged.

I love tamiya in general , but much more for the semi trucks and trailers . Plus the experience to built one , for me , priceless. Just a ton of fun .

Nice to see the details on this one. Looking forward to video 2
I've got all the DT's, definitely going to get this and add my own flair and all those tastey options!

So much potential here for the creative souls.
I love it!

I gotta say, that front U-pin for the lower arms really helps the durability, it absorbs a lot of shock on the DT-02/03.
I still have to build my BBX, but this looks pretty fun! Something about that driver figure really works with this buggy!
I'm definitely going to get one of these. Thanks for sharing this bad boy.
Wow! That looks very cool. I will for sure get one. Great build Greg.
This looks awesome ! Nice build mate 👌🏻

Ok. I’ll get one 😅

It was a good build. Hopefully I’ll get to run it soon. The snow seems to be melting.
@@rctrucks And the price of the DT04 isn't bad either ;)
Great build thanks for sharing
No info about the Dt-04 on any of the official Tamiya pages! This video is a total scoop! I cant wait to get one to complete my DT chassis collection!
Very nice! I'm quite interested in this buggy. The construction of it is very clever. Do some running footage and tell us how it goes.
Wow that was quick. Looks interesting

The HW ESC and Torque Tuned motor comes with the kit. 😀
Kind of like the BBX this car reminds me of the good old Tamiya Rough Rider (Buggy Champ for you ReRe folks). Think I will have to pick one of these up.
Nice video sir. Look at you doing an online build. I don't get mine until Friday. We should meet half way (like, in Texas) and race! :)
Didn’t Texas get snow? Let’s find a warmer spot to run! 😆
I like to use "Green Slime" for my shock assembly. Thoughts?
I use that for all shock builds
@@jonthomas8487 It works great.
Salut , il me plaît bien le nouveau tamiya , bon petit buggy ! 😅
Great looking car.. I just may add that to my arsenal. If you were to sell that build how much do you think it would cost someone?
I always enjoy your videos.

dannnnng i want one now..... lol wonder how well it would do in a box stock class on offroad carpet??
That bbx tough looking
Nice!
What material is the chassis tub? Is it the same brittle ABS, or something nicer?
Seems like the Tamiya take of the Kyosho Sand Master.
This I like 👍
Looks like there isnt much room for electronics. Do you think a brushless esc with a fan would fit in there ?
whats the difference between this and the bbx ? never owned any of them just wondering
In a nutshell, this DT04 is more beginner-type and affordable. The BBX is more premium, uses TRF gearbox and comes with a lot more adjustments. The BBX is more fiddly and demanding to build, too.
Haben die Frontreifen wieder Freilauf, oder 12mm Hex?
12mm Hex
Das war auch mein erster Gedanke. Das bedeutet dann auch das die Dt-03 nicht nehr aufwändig umgebaut werden müssen, sondern es passende Radträger direkt von Tamiya gibt.
Yes, 12mm hex front and rear.
So this or the BBX ?
Any idea what this would cost? I really want one!
Tamico offers it in Germany for 134.99 €.
Looks good but those white plastic wheels look ssa! Needs more aluminum parts (eg: shocks).

Nice looking buggy but Tamiya please step in the modern era and include ball bearings and 15t motors in your kits
Looks like a late 80s rc-10
Tamiya ! Stuck in the past.
It seem it is a great entry level RC. But I think it looks like build with LEGO...!
It cannot be bellcrank steering on a Tamiya buggy. I'm probably hallucinating.
Built for racers but still comes with the DT02 gearbox with only 2 gearing choices, none of which work for 17.5 motors.

I don't like the look of this buggy. The ridiculous character guarantees a pass from me.
uff, not what i wanted from Tamiya :(
But nice video. Good info for newbies
Your voice does not sound the best. Get well soon Greg :)

Same old plastic fantastic😞
日本ではまだ情報が出ていません、タミヤなのにどうして!
I don’t like these obsolete 2wd buggies with motor behind rear wheels. They are horrible driving. TT02 buggy is much more better. I like it.
it looks like cheap...
But that's a good thing
That manga style driver looks shitty
Meh
Another low end plastic trash new design buggy yust stick with the vintage rereleases this sucks
Never been a Tamiya fan, always seemed toy grade. Too many plastic parts that are susceptible to breakage and wear. Other than their overseas touring card, you never see anything Tamiya on the podium.
Tamiya also builds the ultra high end on-road race cars that cost an arm and a dime like the TRF420X

Ready to Reassemble. Building it on your own is the way to go.
