I finally caved in and did it. Very easy to follow instructions. I was nervous at first, but this video helped out a lot. I followed it along as I changed my battery out. Paused when needed. Made sure I did not over look at steps. My advice is the same as most have stated - be super patient. Also, some background on my laptop. Mid-2014 and the batteries were so swollen the back panel was just begging to pop open as I started unscrewing. My laptop as at the point it would not even close, so I knew what to expect. Still, seeing the batteries swollen like blimps was very eye-opening. Everything works great now. I can actually use the track pad again and my Macbook can now completely close. My only regret is waiting this long to change the battery. If you're on the fence, do your Macbook a favor and handle the battery issue before the situation worsens. This video has all the guidance you'll need. Oh and I bought my battery from Amazon.

Glad it helped and you were able to get it done. Yup, if you wait too long the trackpad can break and some even broke the screen on the bulging case.

I used this instructional video yesterday after watching it a couple of times. Very clear, well presented and accurately informative. I first purchased a cake icing spatula (lol-there are many other tools that will probably work as well, but this spatula is a good call ) and had it completed and recharged in less than 2- hours. As you stated, cleaning the old tape residue was the most time consuming part.
I really appreciated your video and thank you for posting! It was really helpful!!

Awesome, glad it worked out! I found now, the best way to remove the adhesive is to first peel up what you can and then use a syringe to put isopropyl directly on the adhesive residue and let it sit a while to soften it up.

Thank you for your video! I also punctured the battery and had white smoke coming out (that was extremely scary) and the middle cell on the left started generating extreme heat. I was scared that I am going catch fire. I allowed it to cool down completely and continued with using floss and patiently removed the middle section. It took me about 5 hours to do this job. I highly recommend being patient and not rushing. Also, if you choose floss-way, use gloves. All my fingers now got micro-cuts on them :)

    • @ItsBinhRepaired
      @ItsBinhRepaired  2 года назад +1

Yeah...floss hurts like a mfer. Lol You could also wrap the ends around something like popsicle sticks or other utensils for better pull strength to use it like a rope saw. Maybe I'll try that in my next battery replacement video.

I replaced the battery according to your instructions. It worked. I used a spatula/scraper but it was pretty stiff and not really long enough. The tool should be at least 5 inches long and a little flexible to better get under the battery pads. The cable for the touch pad is in the middle, so you can start on the corner of the bigger pads with a slight angle, which is enough not to damage the cable. Anyway, thanks for the video. It helped a lot.

Dude, that is super impressive. No solvents, no struggle, no punctures. Well done. Is it risky using a metal pry tool like that for someone not experienced with this? Usually you see people cautioning against metal tools and batteries. I'm going to assume a thin plastic pry tool isn't going to be strong enough to get through that adhesive? Did you fully discharge the battery beforehand? Where's a place to source a good battery, or which ones not to get?

I have a slightly better method now. Same tools, I just attack the adhesive from the front now instead of the side. If you use a thin flexible tool, no issues. The tool is not a knife. Do not use a knife! I've never had issues, but it's possible if you don't know what you're doing.

Lmao, started doing this but realized I need to clean my computer. Haven’t seen the full thing yet but good so far!
Tho the place I got my computer covered one of the screws so I almost bent it out of its shape. Had to rescrew it all since I don’t have a way to get the heaps of dust out right now, but very useful.
Update: was a dumbass and tried to pry the battery off without disconnecting it. It smoked a little and took over an hour to stop being hot.
Idk if I was supposed to continue prying while It was being a hot head and so I didn’t so. Hopefully that is fine.
    More to come 😅
Update: apparently they aren’t made to be taken out. The other side of the battery (after getting one section off) smoked and got cut open in two parts.
Apple wasn’t able to fix my fucking computer when it was just like this, they told me just to replace it. But NOW that I tried to fix it and basically void warranty (never had any either way) they can magically fix it if I can pay like 200 bucks and find a Apple store or Apple certified place.
It’s too old to be a ship and repair thing 😑. So basically I’ve had to use a iPad as a computer for 2 months so far. Am going to try to get a new computer anyways cus no matter what I fix on my old one, it won’t be optimized but I want to keep it :3

For the connector, do you push down or slide the pins in? I broke the connector on my new battery.

Ok thank you, I thought based on what you were saying, we had to slide it in and then line up the rest and push it down after that. I was at least able to get it returned and get a new battery@@ItsBinhRepaired

What is the washer arrangement on the trackpad? How many washers on which posts? This unit has NONE!

Soooo I couldn’t find a pry tool and decided to use a small putty scrapper. Sooo what had happen was I accidentally cut into the battery and it touched the metal and started smoking. I pulled the tool out and stopped. I found a plastic comb and decided I’m gonna try the other side. Well that worked very well till I had to deal with the first battery. You know that little guy who whispers in your ear saying don’t do that. Weeell . I flicked him off my shoulder and gave him the middle finger. So I continued and once again the piece I cut touched metal and it flamed up about an inch then stopped. Once again that guy climbed back up on my shoulder and said I would stop if I were you. Well again I gave him the middle finger BUT! I decided to take a little more precaution because I didn’t want to burn down my boss’s big rig and most importantly burn up my stuff which we can all agree is waaaaay more valuable then this 60k rig 😁. So I carefully place it in the back of my trailer and once again try to get it unglued and once again it touched metal and started smoking. I jump back and started breathing loudly and screaming Faaaaawk. I turned to the guy on my shoulder and I said not a word. I once again nervously try again and this time success and gently lift the battery and place it on the wood floor. Now I’m scared to touch it. Long story short, I was stupid for not using the comb in the first place 🤣🥲🤣🤣 and stupid for continuing. True story. This literally just happened. Oh oh and I first went to BestBuy to have them do it but they refused.

Lol it's not the metal that's the issue. It's the puncturing of the cell and exposing it to air. Glad it all worked out in the end.
