An excellent tutorial, I wouldn't have been confident tackling this without your help. Cheers!
Glad it helped. If you haven't already, please like and subscribe so others can find my videos. Thanks!
Thank you. Not many videos on how to do this (at least i couldn't find many). Yours was the best and easiest way. I had a similar tool that you used and it was much easier than what the fishing line videos ive seen looked like. Plus your two tips about discharging the power and making sure you dont cut the track pad wire was gold. I was able to replace my swollen battery in about an hour. Thank you.

Many thanks for making this video.
I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly.
You have saved me hours of head-scratching and stress.

One of the Best Tutorials for working on Mac. I feel confident I could do this now. Thank You!!😁
Hope the repair goes well. If you haven't already, please like and subscribe so others can find my videos. Thanks!
This is exactly what i was looking for. The Apple Service Provider denied servicing my MacBook being a 2014 model.I was searching for alternatives and came across your video. Assuming i get hold of the replaceable battery, it makes me a bit nervous about doing it by myself.
Hope the repair goes well. Make sure to watch it all the way through and follow along.
Your video was the only one I found regarding my specific year and model MacBook Pro. I couldn't find anyone to fix it so I bought a battery from Amazon and followed your example. I powered it up after charging for 10 minutes or so and everything seems to be working perfectly so far. Hopefully, the battery will recharge and "play nice" with the computer. It sounds strange to not hear the fans running constantly!. Thank you for your video. It meant a lot to me because I don't have $4000 or more to replace this one. Hopefully, my fans still work!
Awesome!
Great help! Battery replaced and working well. Thank you!!

Great video. I looked at ifixit instructions and they take the whole MBP apart using Alkohol to remove the battery.
This one here in comparison seems to be a walk in the park. Thank you 🙏🏼
Awesome, glad you liked it.
Worked as a charm - thanks
Glad it worked! If you haven't already, please like and subscribe so others can find my videos. :)
Thank you!!! excellent tutorial and this explained why my local authorized Apple dealer would not provide me with an estimate. The current approach is to replace in Apple speak ... the top of the computer lol ... not just the battery as if they are doing you a favour. Best ballpark I was give was north of $500 CDN
Glad it helped. Yeah.... they replace way more than what's needed. If you haven't already, please like and subscribe so others can find my videos. Thanks!

My 2014 A1398 needs a new battery and I watched the OWC video but it seemed really complicated. However this is pretty simple.
Yup, just make sure you use a thin flexible tool. You don't want to use anything sharp.
Thank you very much and best regards to you!
Glad it helped! :)
Thank you kindly!
Glad it helped
Thank yu bro! Dont change.

This was a great video, thank you. However, I made a mistake when installing the new battery - as I tried to set it in place, I lost my grip and it slipped in. It appears to fit just fine, but the two screw holes on the top of the new battery do not line up with the holes in the case. The adhesive set immediately and I could not move it. Do you think it is alright to leave those screws out and let the adhesive do its job, or do I need to purchase a new battery and restart the entire process?
The screws are not that important on this model, but you might be able pull the battery board into place and hold it there while you screw it down
Stoked I found your video! Apple told me that this model is now "vintage" and won't service it so I'm going to try myself. Any recommendations on a particular seller / kit to purchase from on Amazon? Or do you have a marketplace yourself? I did not expect so many options when searching.

Your pry tool is actually a cake spatula. 😂
It's actually a pharmacy pill counting spatula.
Hello @It's Binh Repaired, Thank you for this beautiful video. I want to buy a new battery but I don't know which model to purchase, do you suggest on Ebay? Thank you in advance
You'll want to confirm the year model of your MacBook or check the model number on the battery itself. I recommend Amazon for batteries.
Amazing price right now with cyber Monday deal amzn.to/3rlYRHe 1 year warranty.
thanks :)
Glad the video helped.
Well done. May I suggest using the fast speed technique to get through the tedious glue removal portion of the video. Otherwise, very clearly and expertly done.
Fast speed technique?
@@ItsBinhRepaired Yes...the viewer sees the repetitive portion run at 2 or 3x the normal speed.

@@ChristopherHugginsAndCompany I see. I leave it at real-time so they know what they're in for and see how much of a pain in the butt it is.
@@ItsBinhRepaired Good point. Who do you recommend one buy their batteries from?
Hi, my macbook air early 2014 only turns on sometimes and when it does it’s connected to the charger. Do you think changing the battery will fix the issue?
Seems like it
Wait I dont understand why your doing it twice would you not slide some paper or something under it so it does not restick down? Great vid
It doesn't stick very strong after.
Hi, hope you're still looking at some comments. Excellent video. Just to clarify about the battery number, on Amazon I found the battery but has 2 numbers, first A1494 and later A1398. Are these two different batteries or the same? I need the A1398 but I can't choose it at the till. ??? Thanks a lot.
A1398 is the MacBook model number. A1494 is the battery model number.
@@ItsBinhRepaired I understand, one more quick one, is this battery still working well on your MacBook pro after a while? Thanks again!
@@lunama151 customer's MacBook. So far so good.
What is the tool you use to remove the adhesive called and where did you get it?
amzn.to/3okCfFS This, but you'll want to file it a bit thinner at the tip.
Incredible video thank you. So do you normally remove the plastic from the bottom of the new battery so that it can stick? Or is it just removing the plastic from the top of the battery?
You always remove it to make it stick.
@@ItsBinhRepaired thank you for your response! So both bottom and top plastic removed? I know in this video you did not remove the plastic for testing

Hi Binh, I finally got a battery installed thanks to your video. Can you please tell me how long does a charge last on your laptop doing basic stuff and if you do more energy consuming work? I'm still testing mine. Amazing video, thanks a lot.
I don't own the laptop, so I'm not sure.
@@ItsBinhRepaired Hi, have you received any feedbacks from clients telling you how long the battery charge last? I'm assuming that you don't work on Mac laptops or you have a much newer one, so a different battery? So far my battery has lasted about 6-7 hours doing basic stuff, I'll try doing some photo or video editing soon, hope it will not be much lower. Thanks again.
@@lunama151 6-7 hours is a long time
@@ItsBinhRepaired Hi, late reply, but yes it's good and better than 20min with my old battery, however it's down to 4-5 hours when editing photos and videos, but it's ok, It cannot be as good as the new Apple one for that price. Thanks!
Got it
Where did u get the battery replacement from ??
Here amzn.to/3lHOAF5
This model (mid 2014) randomly shutting off is a known issue. Did changing the battery address the issue?
Depends on what's causing it. Does it happen while plugged in?
@@ItsBinhRepaired Mine does. It just switches off randomly. Sometimes it lasts a few seconds, and other times it can be an hour or more before it switches off with no notice or warning. Always plugged in.
@@sgthree not sure. Could be several things. Might be the battery.
What's the name of battery? and from where did you buy?

Does someone know if replacing the in the mid 2014 Macbook Pro (A1494 battery) for a A1618 (for the 2015 model) is safe? I've seen mixed answers but to me it seems not so problematic... maybe I'm missing something?
The main thing is the flap isn't in the way of the haptic feedback motor on some models.
@@ItsBinhRepaired so regarding specs (volts and watts/mAh), not to worry about? I'm about to go from a (stuffed) A1494 battery to a (new) A1618. My Macbook is the also the Mid 2014 model, if I'm correct it doesn't have the haptic motor, right?
@@cslaviero just make sure the battery is compatible with your laptop model.
@@ItsBinhRepaired That's the point I'm trying to confirm, mine is currently the A1494. Newer is the A1618. Do you know if they are interchangeable (or at least I can safely replace the A1494 for the A1618 ?) 🙂
The person selling the battery should list compatible models.
You want me to send you my old battery? Also might have some old ipads and or tablets laying around
Like ewaste? Useable parts?
I followed this tutorial exactly and as soon as i went to unplug the battery, a chip on my board fried and smoke came off of it. What the hell??
Unplugging the battery caused a chip to fry? How is that possible? Did you use metal tools to unplug it?
Could you upload a video of the chip that fried?
Don’t use metal! Use a plastic one to get under battery! One slip and a tear on that battery and you have a fiery portal to hell to deal with…
Haha so far with the hundreds of batteries I've replaced on MacBooks, I haven't had that issue. If you puncture the battery with plastic, you'd have the same issue.
No. You wouldn’t. Metal reacts to lithium in the battery, plastic won’t cause a chain chemical reaction. If you’ve never had a fire it’s because you have had the good fortune not to slip the metal edge into the battery…
@@michaelcacioppo484 take a wooden chopstick and jab it into a lithium battery and let me know how it goes.
After you jab with metal I will…
@michaelcacioppo484 there was no question that jabbing a hole in the battery can cause a fire. You claim that plastic tools can't cause a battery to cause fire, so I'm telling you to stab it with a non metallic, non conductive tool. If you have a plastic tool that can do the job, go ahead and you'll see your recommendation is pointless.
DO NOT DO THIS! For the love of GOD do not use a metal instrument to remove the glue pads! You more than likely will PUNCTURE or damaged the battery, which could catch fire or explode! Use a PLASTIC card, like a credit card etc. You can also use a heat pad to loosen the sticking pads.
I've done this hundreds of times and haven't had it happen once. You can puncture the batteries with plastic as well... it's the puncturing that would set it ablaze, not the metal.
I agree, you shouldn't puncture the battery, but it isn't the metal that causes the puncturing, it's the clumsiness and not following instructions, like people using stiff metal knives that don't bend to get underneath the battery packs...
@@ItsBinhRepaired I agree, if you know what you’re doing, it ‘shouldn’t’ happen… but Jill and John Doe who want to give it a go to save a few bucks… I’ve seen it done lol
@@rockyhudson lol Yeah, that's why I usually talk about the tool I use and don't just say go grab yourself a knife. XD But I guess some people don't watch or listen, so then that's their fault. Doesn't matter what I say or show in the videos. Lol At that point I'm like, that's what they get. Next time hopefully they'll follow instructions completely. Lol
