The Taiwan Cassette Man had tighter joints, on/off switch, volume dial, & the foil stickers were better because they were gloss laminated, not just inked-on like the Takara version. Plus, the fists on the Tawain version were more solid, & did not have the rectangular gap/notch near the wrists. Mine stood up straighter too. Just didn't dig the sponge foam in the chest cavity. Great review.
Despite what the video may lead you to think, but "Cassette Man" is actually the original Soundwave toy that was first created for the Japanese line "Diaclone" before he was imported by Hasbro for the first year of the Transformers toy line, being rebranded as Soundwave
True but this is a Taiwan version and many Taiwan made toys in the 80s were bootlegs of popular japanese toys. Official Micro Change was made in Japan and box was in Japanese.
@@RocketPunchArmy ok, but a good question regardless would be, Who made it first? It does seem the "bootleg" Cassette man was made in 1974 and then Diaclone was made in 1980 then of course G1. Is this right... would Like to get some clarification.... :)
@@RocketPunchArmy so Wich one came first, the Casette man in 1974 or Diaclone's version in 1980? To me, what matters is who came with it first. For example Diaclones line. Ect...
awesome video! i have this guy, got him wayyyy back in the early 80's at a fleamarket. the quality of these kos back in the day were really good. i remember haveing this wierd looking g1 starscream ko, which had modified wings, and larger feet. you could find tons of great ko toys at the fleamarket back in the day
My parents bought this box set for me at Charlie Browns Farms in Littlerock Ca on Pearblossom Hwy in 1982 ( it’s still there ) - I think the set was about $6-7.00 Alongside they sold the cassettes in small boxes displayed in a long box with multiple cassettes, each was like $1.00-.25 I was in second grade. Took it to school the day after and it fell out of my jacket during class and got confiscated by the teacher. A female classmate snuck into the teachers desk and got it back for me later that day. I kept it at home after that. It was interesting when transformers blew up later that I had some already. They also sold the Dinobots and some of the autobot cars which I also had. Good times.
I owned this before actually owning the actual Soundwave itself. Mine did come w/the actual cassette as well. I got it as a Xmas gift & actually thought it was a real walkman.
You're correct it was way before the transformers cartoon it was from a series called micro change you could say the early versions of the autobots descended from diaclone and the deceptions orgianated from micro change
Can somebody explain me if Cassette Man is collectable and if it worth more than than the G1 edition? Do they use the same molds? Did Takara give this mold to the Taiwan company?
The value of something collectable is based on what the market is willing to pay. I can try and sell it for 500 but if it never sells them its not worth it. Also never use ebay as a gauge unless its an auction. Inflated buy it nows usually remain unsold. As far as cassette man goes. Not sure what its worth. I myself wouldnt pay more than 150 for a complete mint set...but maybe someone else would. I dont think Takara gave them the mold. Most likely just a very careful quality copy. Most Taiwan copies are good quality.
@artnandez thanks, yeah the old taiwan boots were always of great quality, think Lionbot Daitarn 3, all the Transformers knockoffs etc... now they basically suck
Handsome Bootleg Cassette Man is a good guy, confirmed.

@M R microchange came first then this knockoff same with the microchange cassettes.

Yeah, a lot of the bootlegs back then were of excellent quality
The bootleg was actually better than the original. The quality was there and they supplied you with more perks.
I owned this before actually owning the actual Soundwave itself. Mine did come w/the actual cassette as well. I got it as a Xmas gift & actually thought it was a real walkman.
correct me if im wrong but wasnt this actually the original toy and not a ko, before the transformers cartoon was conceived.
I know this comment is old but I’ll answer anyway. Yes this is the original toy. Transformers was based off of this Toys
You're correct it was way before the transformers cartoon it was from a series called micro change you could say the early versions of the autobots descended from diaclone and the deceptions orgianated from micro change
transform83 devastator came from diaclone

Funny because Jaguar was actually the name given by Diaclone to Jaguar. They didn't change the name.
What’s a loose cassette man worth without any assessories? At lease 50bucks?
Most Hasbro Transformers designs were taken from Japanese media, for example Macross and Cassette Man here.
Thats actually the original Soundwave
thats really cool, so i guess if we wanted to be picky then transformers is kind of an official bootleg lol
Wait isn't cassette man older than the g1 soundwave toy
I believe cassette man was made in 1974.. then Diaclone somehow made it after around 1980 then of course G1 Takara Transformers...
@artnandez thanks, yeah the old taiwan boots were always of great quality, think Lionbot Daitarn 3, all the Transformers knockoffs etc... now they basically suck
Am a 1980's kid and the toys are. So dam experience to buy bootleg is good in my book id am putting it on a. Shelf
It is a strange bootleg because it uses the first mold but new colors because the original was silver and black and looked way better
the only toy i have ever got with stiro in it was a polystiren ghost of starscream that i wanna sell its really not a toy its a statue.
Its not a bootleg its original original Soundwave
It's a Taiwan bootleg of the original Takara Micro Change Cassette man. It pre-dates the Transformers release but it is still a bootleg version.
