    The funny thing about those EGM reviews, the Sushi-X ones in particular, is that the Aero games were created and designed by David Siller, the original Sushi-X who worked at the magazine for the first twenty issues or so. The Sushi that reviewed the games wasn't him, but... still funny.

    While I’m glad to see these games being added to all the consoles. My heart stopped for a moment thinking we were getting some Sega games for Switch online. That may be too much to ask for…

    Still need to play Zero before I can answer that question, the original cart for that one is absurdly expensive on both Genesis and SNES. Very glad it's getting a rerelease. Of the first two games, I defintiely prefer the 2nd game but I like both.

    The original Aero was a part of my SNES collection as a kid, but I never got to play the other two games. I had always wanted to, but I admit, I've never even seen copies of the other two in person before!
    So needless to say, I am very excited the the whole series will be back on modern platforms!

    I think I rented Aero the Acro-Bat once and it left a huge impression on me... I don't remember if it was bad or good, but I remembered it, which in the sea of animal mascot platformers, that counts for a LOT!

    I remember the massive ads and reading reviews but I never actually played any Aero game, this may be a good time to start. Just from watching the game play, it seems to have the same problem that many platformers had at the time, overly zoomed in camera that makes it difficult to make jumps and prepare for enemies.

    • @SamMorgan
      @SamMorgan 2 месяца назад +1

      The Genesis versions are more zoomed out but you have to tolerate worse visuals and WAY worse music unfortunately. I still prefer the SNES versions because of those reasons but there's parts in Aero 1 in particular that can be rough because of the cropping.

    I've never played this series... 😵
    My favorite game with "Aero" in it would be Kingdom Hearts II, though. 😅

    For your other Review Crew video, think I know what my Opening Joke might be. 😉 And hey, makes sense on Sonic being the first mascot to go up against Mario. After all, I'm sure at one time, Mario looked like he had that market locked down. Then along came Sega and after the Master System failed, they probably felt they needed to strike Nintendo at a point of where it was the strongest, and that being Mario. So made Sonic who could be faster, and then other companies took notice, and there we go. As for the question, I've not played any of these, can't say that I've heard of them, but looks like I have the ROMs, so I'll have to check them out. They do look fun.

    The GBA Game/Game 1 remake is also coming to playstation and switch, not sure if that got different reviews

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  2 месяца назад +5

      There are reviews for the GBA version, but not as many and a lot of the reviews cover the same ground (both pros and cons) as what people said about the first game. Since we were going chronologically and what few reviews there were for the GBA version were so similar, I decided it would be anticlimactic to end the episode that way. Maybe I'll find a reason to loop back around and cover the GBA game, but you're not missing much.

      I usually have lots of patience for these platformers from the time. I even enjoy Bubsy. This game though… I can’t do it. That frame rate and choppiness hurts.

    Never saw this one coming back, but now that he's here I choose to be positively surprised and just enjoy the new arrival! I only ever saw the series in game-magazines here in Sweden where it didn't really go higher than the 70 %'s... but Zero was a squirrel who fought with nunchucks and that was too cool for my adolescent brain to let go of. So soon I'll know exactly what I missed out on. The games at least seem decent, but considering it's Iguana behind them that's to be expected.
    Also, those 90's commercials... the past truly is a foreign country, some times.

    Somehow as a kid I never got to play Zero the Kamikaze Squrrel, and I think I somehow didn't piece together until later that Zero was one of the villains from Aero. Aero himself I used to obsess over as a kid.
    As an adult its hard to choose a favorite between the two Aero games. I think I might have to give the edge slightly to the second one, but the first feels like a more "consistent" experience for me.
    Also I prefer the Genesis version of Aero 1. The differences are minor but to me, they're noticable.

    I had fun with bubsy, havoc, rocky, awesome, aero and zero, they are really cool and beautiful characters! I also remember other mascots that I liked such as: mr nutz, conker, croc, tomba, zool james pond, flink, puggsy, socket, gex, ardy lightfoot, plok, frogger, radical rex, titus, jersey, kingsley, punky skunk, glover etc...I know very well that there are other mascots that I know but I don't want to tell them to avoid putting someone to sleep here, because there are many mascots that need a new game instead of a miserable console port!

    All I remember of the first one is that it was extremely hard and the save system was unforgiving so I never really made it far into the game

    I think it would be cool if you did this with some other games available on the Switch, but not on NSO, such as the games contained in Mega Man Legacy Collection, Castlevania and Contra Anniversary Collections, etc.

    • @DefunctGames
      @DefunctGames  2 месяца назад +1

      I have been doing these for more collections and classic game announcements, like the Felix the Cat Collection, that Blizzard 16-bit compilation and all of the stuff coming from Limited Run Games. I try to cover what comes up, beyond the Nintendo Switch Online. However, there are definitely a lot of classic game collections that I have missed. The three you mentioned (Mega Man, Castlevania and Contra) all came out before I was really doing these Review Crew episodes. I may swing back around and try to cover them, but I haven't yet. It is worth mentioning that all three franchises you mentioned have lengthy EGM Ranks episodes dedicated to them, so you can see what one magazine thought of the games.
      In the future, I am going to have a Review Crew series that is built around viewer requests, that way we can cover some of the games that would never get re-released or added to NSO.

    I look forward to older games getting re-released than modern triple A titles. I guess that makes me a boomer gamer lol. This video review was very well done 👍. Hope to see more NES/SNES and Sega games getting re-released
