How To Shoot In Manual Mode On The Sony ZV1F || Easy Explanation Of ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture

  • So You just bought the Sony ZV1F and you’ve been shooting in Intelligent auto, but you are ready to take your video creation to the next level or maybe you are not getting the quality you’re expecting from the camera, then this video is for you.
Today I’m going to show you how to transition from shooting in intelligent auto to manual mode; which will improve your video quality and gives you more creative control.
If you’ve been shooting in Intelligent Auto, Camera automatically adjust your shutter speed, your Aperture and ISO depending on the lighting in your environment allowing you to just grab and go.
On the other hand, Manual mode allows you to control your shutter speed, Aperture setting, ISO, And White balance (Color) given you more control.
For let’s start with shutter speed and how it affect your overall video quality
Question: What is shutter speed and how does it work?
    • Shutter Speed is measured in fraction for example 1/60. The lower that number the more light hit the camera sensor. For example, 60 means more light in comparison to 125
    • You never want to shoot below your frame rate. Let’s say your recording setting is 30 frames per second, your shutter speed should never go below 1/60
Next question, What is the Aperture and why is this so important?
    • Aperture also Known as F-stop. The lowest F-Stop on the Sony ZV1F is F2 which is great for low light situations
    • F stop adjust how wide the lens is open and the blurry background that kills distractions in the background. The Lower the f-stop the more light comes into the lens and the more blurry your background; making your stand out of the background. For example f2 mean more light and more blurry background in comparison to let’s say F8.
    • Depending on what you are recording, always want to shoot at the lowest F-Stop
Question: So you’ve talked about the Aperture, and shutter speed, what role does the ISO play in all this?
    • ISO:
    • deals with your lens sensitivity to light. Also responsible for digital noise (grains) if number is too high.
    • The lower the ISO the less light hit the sensor. But good because no little grains in your video depending on the other settings and lighting conditions
    • The higher the iso the more light hit the sensor, but you risk little grains also depending on your environment for example, iso 800 is brighter than iso 100, but iso 100 shows less grainy videos
Question: I know color can make or break a video especially for beginners, how to do you choose the right color for your video?
    • White Balance: adjust your color based on your environment or manually set it.
    • You shoot on auto white balance (AWB)
    • But if you want to also adjust your color then switch to K adjust your K number.
If you want to be in control, learn which setting is the best for your environment. If you have great studio lights, then I recommend you record at the lowest iso and lowest Aperture (F-stop). As for your shutter speed it depends on your frame rate. For me my frame rate is at 30 is I shoot at 60 frames per second and higher.

If am allowed, another way to clarify S S is by the amount of light that hits the sensor. a low number shutter speed (20,30.60) , allows more light in. a high faster hits theshutter speed (125, 250, 320) less light hits the sensor.

Hi Elena, thanks for watching. Much appreciated! There are actually no best settings for the environment that you are shooting in. I would recommend that you play around with the different things that my husband and I talked about in the video. Start with your shutter speed which is usually 1/ a number like 60, next play with your F-stop which is usually 2.0 depending on the lens you have. Next play with the ISO, the upper the number, the more light comes into the camera. With ISO, i try not to go above 600 to avoid grainy videos.

    • @Siamtarawallie
      @Siamtarawallie  3 месяца назад

Thank you for watching. I chose that for demo purposes only. The settings of your auto-white balance depend on your environment or the color tone you would like to achieve. You can do warm or cold colors. I shoot all my videos on Manual white balance. I select the temperature I want-Google color temperature for cameras.
