This is why this show was so good. Ray is a sociopath….but he still has a pretty good moral code otherwise. That’s a very interesting balance and hard to pull off. Plus, that smile at the end is just pure gold. Gold I tell ya
Love seeing this side of Ray. Not sure which I like more: the grin with "You really want to find out?" or when he says "let me stop you right there, mate" when the guy tries to tell him the girl is "batshit crazy." Great writing, great acting -- all Scott Ryan.

It's actually better than that: what she asked was a 1000 a month until the baby turns 18. 1000 in 18 years is less than 1000 now. If she invests the 250 and gets an ROI of 7% yearly, she will have 1450 a month for life and never even touch the 250, her kid will inherent it.
@@skipintroux4444 Freddy's reaction when Ray fronted him about killing an innocent man [like Freddy didn't give a flying you-know-what] was the very moment that Ray lost respect for him.
I assume Simon is the manager of household finances and can withdraw $250K without the wife becoming suspicious. "Meet Fiona, the owner of my shell company in the Philippines".
The most concerning aspects of this are (a) Ray’s street justice bypasses State law enforcement. (b) Ray’s street justice excludes the legal system. There should be lawyers negotiating on behalf of Fiona and the child, lawyers for Simon,,lawyers for Simon’s wife, and a judge presiding over everything. There will be briefs, mediation, court appearances, discovery, exchanges between legal teams…it would shape up to a profitable case for all concerned. There might even be a few bob left over for Fiona and the baby, if she were still alive. Ray is cutting all these people, the proper people, out of resolving this schemozzle. And he has secured the safety of the mistress and child better than a court order. Simon will not dare to get someone to “take care of her” now. Who does Ray Shoesmith think he is?
Ray had a feeling from the get-go that the adulterer was a creep. I'm a touch disappointed that Ray did not also charge the rat a $50k 'consultants fee' for his effort.
Nice -- he got her a 34K bonus beyond what she originally asked for. And I have to believe he'll pay it because now it's not just the fear of her not keeping her mouth shut (if that was even a real concern) -- it's the fear of what will happen to him if he _doesn't_ pay it.
@@Roger-d5o The guy who hired Ray is a real creep who lied that the lady demanded $2 million & Ray hates to be lied to, so he played along when he found out the truth & told the creep that he got her down to 250k & then gave him 48 hours to pay or else!

Edit: Take another great show: Slow horses. That one really ran out of steam the last season and Gary Oldman barely saved it from being a flop.
Maybe that 'public profile' guy was considering doing the job himself. But what does a hit cost? - paying the lady's request for child support seems a lot more reasonable, not to mention rational.
Simon had a belief that Ray was a stone cold killer, who will kill anyone for money. In doing so, he believed that despite not being given the full facts from the start, such as putting a hit on a pregnant woman, and former mistress, that Ray would still 'act' when the time came. That was mistake #1. Mistake #2, questioning Ray when he found out the truth, and discovering Ray was NOT ok with it, and had instead 'negotiated' a safer arrangement. Simon could have easily made mistake #3, by ignoring the good advice, AND ignoring Ray's smile. It is NOT the smile of friendliness...

a common theme in the witcher novels.
My favorite part is the way he smiles “you really want to find out”.
Not sure what was more intimidating Ray saying "Let me stop ya there mate" or "You really wanna find out?" lol
You don’t send Ray to threaten a pregnant woman based on a lie and not face repercussions
Ray also has an Asian wife (divorced) and his daughter Britanny from that marriage. Unfortunate coincidence for ass-clown Simon.
