    That’s incredible😂
    The umpiring, and the fielding, has improved so much. Some of the batsmen and bowlers from this era are just as good or better than modern era players, at least in tests, good good lord some parts of the game were amateur hour not all that long ago.

      Graham Thorpe, who was at the other end, made a snide comment to Doug Cowie about that, and Doug didn’t take to kindly to it…

    Chaotic scenes on Day 4. Boy This was some series with Thorpe's Fastest 200, followed by Fastest 200 by Astle the very next innings. And I vividly remember this game, as that was during Boards exams and the game carried into the Indian afternoon. 36:00 is the start of the day night test. Now, In Australia they have had used lights many a times before during a Test match supplementing the low natural light. But this was different as the game carried on for couple of hours with only the Artificial light.

    Adams - six wickets in his first test, and some excellent fielding. Never seen again. Went on to have a stellar career in English County Cricket. Obviously pissed somebody off.

      He played for NZ in ODIs & T20s until 2007, despite being inconsistent, so I don't see how that could be the case.
      He had injuries shortly after this test.

      First class cricket. He was inconsistent in limited overs. Was reprimanded a couple of times playing for Auckland. May have contributed.

    Tuffey, Adams, Drum..has there ever been a worse pace bowling lineup in test history?

    • @lawro04
      @lawro04 2 года назад +4

      And yet they won the match, not bad for the “worst pace lineup in test history…”

      Tuffey was fine overall, and when bowling in NZ he was very difficult - his average was 25 in NZ, any team would be happy with that. He also got the openers out very early surprisingly often, at least in ODIs, possibly tests too.
      Drum was fine, just played few matches due to competition from other players.
      Adams was good in his only test match here, he probably wouldn't have done much more considering his ODI stats, but not really relevant to this test either way.
      Together they got all but 1 of the wickets, so while they weren't an intimidating looking line-up, they were clearly effective.
      Of course, they also had a bunch of all-rounders if needed, including McMillan who was surprisingly aggressive with bouncers despite not being quick. McMillan was an unusual player in general - aggressive and quick batsman with some odd shots(including an occasional sideways stance to spinners), but better suited to tests.
