    AXS on a budget. Works on every derailleur and any speed cassette. I’m surprised this hasn’t blown up and become the best selling bike product. How does it perform? How’s the build quality? How’s the durability? I’ve only seen Seth use it.

    • @downtoridemtb

      Everything about it is great except the slow double shifts. Although they now have a higher voltage battery set that is supposed to speed it up.

    Great video! But I have the lowest cost wireless shifter… it’s called single speed LOL. But seriously I think my legs need a break so I’m going to order the AdventX.

    I have the Paddle remote that replaced the remote you have there. This one was good, but the paddle remote has better ergonomics. it fits me much better at least.
    They released a new version few days ago. It's march 2023 now.
    it has a detachable battery and if you have to you can use AXS and DI2 battery.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  Год назад +1

      Yeah the new shifted look a lot better. I eventually got tired of the slow double shifts and the added complication. I know the battery upgrade addresses the speed issue though.

      @@downtoridemtb Shorter battery life, but it shifts fast enough. But I have spare batteries with me anyway, just in case I forget to charge. But I need this system to not be in pain, and fatigue.
      but with mechanical shifter I guess clutch can be turned to minimum, but despite that it still fatigues, but completely off and chain slaps horribly. I will likely continue using this system. But for some reason the motor died on two shifters, one is at Archer now for repair.The one I use now has been repaired. But at least warranty and customer support is great. I am willing to go trough that to have fatigue free and pain free shifting.

      I watched a video with the owner and he said technically anything is possible ... I guess the programming is open source and it would just be a matter of programming a remote/shifter combo to to "pull, wait, release" to let the seat post drop or return.

      I’ve done some research and contacted them… You can also get some 14250 batteries and use two of those and one of the stock 14500s. Same length so you don’t need the other battery door. Don’t use four 14250s though, it is too much voltage and will fry the electronics.

    • @downtoridemtb

      Thanks! One big one… the slow double shifts became annoying to the point that I went back to cable actuated. We have a lot of quick ups and downs here which means a lot of shifting. For other types of riding this would probably be less of an issue. If you wind up getting one, definitely spring for the battery upgrade.

    how does it behave when on standby compare to axs? I'm currently using gx axs and I hate tuning that damn thing :( but the overall operation is fluid, just a slight vibration the motor wakes up instantly

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  3 года назад +1

      You ha d to actually turn it on. Kinda makes sense to me though because otherwise transporting the bike would constantly be turning it on. If you’re already on AXS then stick with it. I have since seen video comparisons and AXS is faster shifting.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  2 года назад

      It’s an upgrade if you already have the regular GX drivetrain. Meaning it doesn’t come with a cassette or chain. Personally I’ve gone back to cable shifting. I just really like the more natural, non-electronic aspect of mountain biking.

    It's cool but I'm pretty sure you could've used something like a Deore RD, which costs less (at least in Europe), and that might save a buck or two considering you could micro-adjust each gear with the d1x

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  2 года назад

      Yeah you definitely can mix brands with this and even mix speeds. For example an 11 speed derailleur on a 10 speed cassette. As long as the max tooth size is compatible, the D1X will take care of the rest.

    • @ZhengZL69
      @ZhengZL69 2 года назад +2

      @@downtoridemtb Yeah, I'm building a d1x concept myself with some spare electronics I have, I like the idea to fix derailleur that don't shift well. 2 of mines act like if the hanger were bent, so fine-tuning the cable-pull for each gear sounds like a perfect way to fix those derailleurs.
