My cat used to pull the back legs off crickets and then let them go. I was so confused when I kept finding these weird, black bugs. It wasn't until I realized that they only had four legs each that I understood that they were really crickets. That and finding the abandoned cricket legs on the basement floor.
Surprised no one cross bred this cat to make a tiny house cat. Bad idea now, but they would’ve been awesome. The rusty spotted cat would be even cuter by size
Just like athletes who are mostly in great shape, the byproduct is they're mostly attractive. Same concept with a very dangerous, well experienced predator
Oh look at that little cat that just killed the mouse that was eating our food let's keep it in the house.Or are the barn equivalent: well that cat is killing the rats that are eating the cattle's food so let's leave them there they aren't doing any harm.
Our thoroughly domestic cat employs a mind control technique of hunting. He will sit and stare at me, then look toward his dish until I give him food. When I take him for walks on his leash, he tries it with birds and squirrels, too. His disgust at my inability to catch birds and squirrels for him is depressingly obvious.
I find it amazing and eerie that so many of these small cats resemble the domestic cat! I mean, if I were to run into some of these out in the wild my initial thoughts would be that it's just someone's house cat out on a prowl.
It's not an uncommon thought, I educate people on small cats at an AZA facility, we have 4 of these species, and almost every visitor comments on how some of them look like they're just house cats. Coincidentally, 2 of them *are* in the same Genus; Black Footed Cats and Sand Cats share the same Genus as House Cats, only separated by species! Felis Nigripes (Black Footed Cat), Felis Margarita (Sand Cat), and Felis Catus (House Cat)
As soon as you said “outside your window or under your bed” I knew it was gonna be the house cat :) I have a kitty and as far as I have had her. Her kill rate is 0% bc the one spider she actually tried to hunt, I had to vacuum, bc she thought it was under the door, and didn’t want to look when I showed her where it actually was…
Wow! Who would have known about the Black-Footed Cat? I thought it would have been the Sand Cat. It may also be found in one of the driest places in Africa, the Namib Desert. Thank you for the hunt!
Then there was Towser, a female tortie who was employed as the distillery cat at Glenturret Distillery, who eliminated some 28,000-29,000 mice in her lifetime. She is recognized by Guinness as the best mouser on record.
While you certainly can't have one, you can check to see if any nearby accredited Zoos have them! In the USA, I know that the Greensboro Science Center, Hogle Zoo, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Living Desert Zoo, Birmingham Zoo, Brookfield Zoo, and a number of others have them. Also check out the Black Footed Cat Species Survival Plan and Working Group!
I've seen bobcats (Lynx rufus) at my home in the mountains of Western Oregon. Have also seen cougars (puma concolor) on the property, as well. We keep the domestics inside due to the risks.
And that's the right thing to do for everyone! It's gotta be really cool to see the biggest of the small cats in person, especially out in the wild! I've only ever seen Cougars in Zoos, but it was still amazing to see them :3
My cat was an indoor cat, but he had double digit kills of mices. He's only been gone a few months but I feel taunted because reasons. They're disrespecting him because he's dead, or i'm just crazy and hallucinating. I have mice in my house, I forgot that key point. It's likely I have lost my mind
Thank you for highlighting the damage domestic cats can do! People often take it as a personal attack when I bring it up, like I'm criticizing them as a pet owner. I'm not! All I'm saying that keeping their cat indoors is a net positive for them, their cat's safety, and the environment. Cats are the single most invasive species on the planet; hopefully the more people figure that out the better things will get.
People need to fix their animals and support TNR programs in their communities. Chances are there is somewhere nearby that has problems with ferals, strays or cat colonies. Just finished going through trapping/TNR for 12/16 of the colony around my house. The other 4 will be done in January, hopefully.🤞😸
Thank you for encouraging people to keep their cats inside. If you love nature, do the right thing and protect nature from your domestic cat. For the protection of wildlife, for the saftey of your kitty, and for your health. Cats can spread to humans toxoplasmosis, bartonella, in rsre cases rabies and can infect each other wuth FeLV, FIV and other diseases
Our 'garfield' boy turned our back yard into a gopher graveyard. He'd go all over the neighborhood and get them, then hide their corpses in our back yard bushes. We had a neighbor come thank us, and another one ask to borrow him. 😂 Summer was bad.

Hey guys, Brazilian here. Fyi, pampas cat looks like a "Gato Palheiro" to me. If you want some footage, look up "Instituto Onça Pintada" or Jaguar Institute. They have rescued ones and they do an incredible job.
The lynx was reintroduced in Colorado back between 99-06, they have been a phenomenal success in Colorado and this success helped push for the wolf reintroduction and hopefully soon the reintroduction of wolverines 🐾
I've got a tomcat living with me, from a local 'tribe' of feral cats from around here. He's the second cat I've had from this tribe. The first was female, and was a prolific killer. Leo is the same, but is better at killing squirrels.
blackfooted cat is my favorite, always been :) although, sand cat and caracal are cute as well. btw, there’s a belief that domestic tabby cats with black paws, dark lips and dark spots on their palates are the best mousers :) maybe they have some of the blackfooted cat’s blood in them, that also gives them some of the wild BF cat’s hunting talent? :)

Wild and feral cats: Expert hunters, primal survivors.

My cats did that 2 crickets coming from fireplace vent.
@@tessat338crickets make sounds with those legs, so basically your cat hates cricket noises and does its best to eliminate the source.
My cat ate half a mouse he dispatched in front of me before I could stop him, and he immediately barfed it back up.
Sand cat's superpower: cuteness.

Black-footed cats taking pride at the 60% success rate.
Drangonflies with 97% success rate: "Amateurs"
they are biorobots
Dragonflies are like heat-seeking missiles 💀☠️
Oh! the fishing cat. Watched an entire BBC documentary and was never shown the cat catching a fish! I felt robbed I tells you... Thanks again
Why is there a positive correlation between cute and killer instinct ?

@verdaneartokay thanks to the Latin definition I know Margarita means sand

The Rusty Spotted Cat is another cutie!

This is cool but makes zero sense. If we have barely any footage of these cats, how would we have any realistic idea as to their hunting success-rate?
