🌟 Unlocking the Potential of Star Wars: The Missing Vision 🌟
Join Sean Chandler in this thought-provoking discussion as he delves into the complexities of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. From the lack of a central vision to the creative inbreeding plaguing the galaxy far, far away, Sean dissects the challenges faced by the sequels and proposes a crucial change that could have elevated them to new heights.
    🚀 Key Points Discussed:
🔍 Analyzing the Prequels vs. Sequels: Sean draws parallels between George Lucas's big-picture vision in the prequels and the disjointed nature of the sequels. The execution might differ, but the core problem remains.
🤔 The Absence of a Big Idea: Unlike the prequels, the sequels lacked a singular vision, resulting in a chaotic narrative with numerous course corrections and conflicting creative decisions.
🔗 Inspiration vs. Imitation: Sean highlights the shift from George Lucas's diverse inspirations to the sequels' reliance on past Star Wars material, emphasizing the need for fresh, innovative ideas.
🌌 Creative Inbreeding: The discussion extends to how even beloved series like The Mandalorian can fall into the trap of nostalgic callbacks, hindering the introduction of genuinely new elements to the Star Wars universe.
🔄 The Need for a Vision Caster: Sean proposes a fundamental change-appointing a single visionary to guide the trilogy, ensuring a unified direction and a coherent narrative.

If the foundation of ideas is flawed, it’s tough to build off of those flawed ideas. That’s what the sequel trilogy is. It’s taking weak, strange, and recycled ideas and executing them poorly. To me the issue is that Star Wars was never meant to be a shared universe, its originally just one story of the Skywalker family, primarily Anakin skywalker and Luke, and the sequels should’ve continued their legacy and involve Luke and Anakin both heavily while also allowing the 3rd generation of Skywalkers to explore new worlds, the rebirth of the Jedi and seeing if it can survive where the old one failed, how to restore a government with Han and Leia.
But what they did was the same exact storyline as the ot and now Rey and the new characters are going to go on and do what the og trio should’ve accomplished, it virtually makes the ot meaningless in the big picture as yes it is thanks to the sequels. What the point of any of it when we know it’s all gonna come undone, instead of building up, they tore down and replaced it with a cheaper alternative version cause it was safe.
That’s why I truly don’t give a shit about anything in the mando verse connecting to the sequels, or fixing them. Cause we know it’s all gonna revert back to the start of a new hope status eventually.
The sequels serve no purpose to further the story of 1-6, that’s what The Rey movie is essentially going to do, progress the story, new new republic and Jedi order new threats, and what’s worst is its gonna be helmed by lesser characters then the beloved of trio

  • @NinthShinigami
    @NinthShinigami 4 месяца назад +26

They really are. Concepts introduced just break too many of the rules and make me think, “Well, why didn’t you just do x or y in that scenario?” Such as the Holdo maneuver and Rey ended up becoming way too broken and OP of a character I just can’t feel worried for her wherever they go with her because they’ve just gifted her abilities like if it was Christmas.
Then you have the legacy characters that are either dead and can’t be brought back and undermined some of their journeys. Didn’t help that they plagiarized the original trilogy either. I’m sorry to anyone that enjoys the sequels, I can respect your opinion, but I seriously think these movies were horrible, and the last two are some of my least favorite movies of all time…

  • @TheAwesomePadronShow

One of the biggest issues as a whole with the big picture imo was bringing Palpatine back. The entire Skywalker saga was building up to that moment of Vader saving Luke by killing Palpatine. Undoing that is incredibly cheap and lazy.
Not gonna say much about this one but having Luke do what he did was dumb, but the bigger issue was having him completely give up and isolate himself from everyone after making one mistake and just letting the Empire 2.0 rise to power.
But something I don’t see people talk about much is that the sequels ruined a great chance at having Anakin continue his redemption by having him converse with Kylo Ren and try to convince him why the dark side is the wrong choice. The decision to not have him at all in the sequel trilogy (especially when Kylo’s motivation was to follow in Darth Vader’s footsteps and “finish what he started”) is baffling.
Or even having him motivate Luke to get back into the fight. As much as I dislike what they did with Luke in the sequel movies, if they’re gonna go that route, it could’ve been such a cool reversal if they had Anakin’s force ghost be the one who convinced him to get back into it. And reminding Luke of the lessons he taught Anakin when he was Darth Vader. Plus seeing Hayden Christensen’s Anakin and Mark Hamill’s Luke talking with one another in a movie would’ve been legendary in of itself.

Definitely think they needed one person with a vision to do so but I also think they needed to not go in with focusing on the new characters. The sequels actively destroy so many characters from the first 6 films and makes the mistake of not putting the main 3 characters together. By having the first order seem so big and powerful makes the ending of Return of Jedi and what are heroes did feel less. Like they did nothing to help the galaxy.

I just received my Art Spirits Hyper Solid Series Kong today and it’s frickin’ awesome! It’s a 10/10 figure next to my Hiya GvK Exquisite Basic Godzilla and Art Spirits 1989 Godzilla. All three have great articulation. Now I just need the SHMA Kou Kyou Kyoku G89 that lights up and makes sounds but is quite expensive at $300+.
This is my first Kong figure and it’s very movie accurate. I decided NOT to put it on the base. Reason being my Godzillas don’t have them and it looks kinda awkward if only Kong has it. And I want G21 and K21 to stand near each other but the base can be too wide. Without the base, the scale is fairly accurate. G21 is about 60 feet taller than K21 and my K21 figure is about a half inch shorter without the base.
These two figures are so perfect next to each other! If you want the best MV Godzilla figure and the best MV Kong figure, get Hiya GvK V2 Exquisite Basic Godzilla and Art Spirits Hyper Solid Kong. I was lucky to get this Kong figure new for $125. For a week, I was wearing my Team Godzilla hat that I bought from RedBubble. Now I’ll switch to my Team Kong hat which I received on the same day.
I’m not one of those fans who bashes one and then praises the other. I’m a fan of both Godzilla and Kong! I think Godzilla is cooler while Kong is more relatable since he’s an ape. I grew up on these two since I was 5 back in the mid 1980s. I’m also a fan of Mechagodzilla. I was more into Kong movies as a kid since they were sadder and were in English. While I was more fascinated with Godzilla toys, his iconic roar, his mystique, and his designs.
I can’t wait to see Godzilla and Kong team up in two months and kick some Shimo and Skar King ass!

I honestly think modern Star Wars should have been stories taking place in the world of Star Wars not a sequel trilogy it self….
Rogue One: one of my favorite Star Wars films ever. Great story and cast and didn’t rely heavily on the past. It just took a very important plot item mentioned in the original trilogy and showed a mission.
Solo: Is fine….not a necessary movie, but it’s fun to seen the crime centric aspects of Star Wars.
The Mandalorian: the first two seasons are great even though season 2 relied on cameos, but at least moments felt earned. I have a problem with the direction season 3 went as it’s just become a spin off for an animated series, shelving its wonderful new lead character. I think Din Djarin and should have stayed separated most of the season 3 and Boba Fett should have gotten the Werewolf by Night treatment (being an hour long special) instead of being Mandalorian season 2.5. All that being said I love the Mandalorian .
Andor: It brings something new to Star Wars and is an adult spy drama within the universe and it’s great!!
That’s what I like about Disney Star Wars…everything else has been fan-service with no purpose. I think Dave Filloni is trying to make a newer sequel series with everything taking place after the original trilogy and he’s trying very hard to be coherent (which I appreciate). Still I wish modern Star Wars should have been stand alone material and building newer franchises within the universe instead of creating a sequel trilogy with no vision.

The sequels are garbage. They destroyed Luke Skywaker and hiw the hell does JJ NOT have at least one scene with Luke Leia and Han all in a scene together. NOT ONE. Now its to late. Also, with the Kenobi series coming out, they could of played Kenobi with a love interest like Sateen and have Rey be a granddaughter of Kenobi. Then have Ben solo who has skywaker blood and Rey having Kenobi blood battling the emperor (which was crap to do).

I think with some tweaks, the sequals could have been good. Have one director for all 3 films. You mostly can keep force awakens the same, can change some things like giving poe more character development and have Rey Finn and Poe meet in this one, don't "kill" phasma, and give more depth to the starkiller base destruction. In the last jedi, have more flashbacks to show Ben's fall and have Luke Han and Leai interact in during the flashbacks, in the present have luke be more optimistic and have a reason for him leaving aside from just giving up, dont make hux a joke and don't have the Canto bite sequence and don't kill phasma agian and have a rivalry with Finn, In rise of Skywalker don't have Palpatine just return to life in-between films. Maybe have kilo find a sith holocrone and kilo trying to learn from that only for it to be a minupualtion to be reincarnated, and have the end be kilo being redeem and him and Rey trying to stop Palpatinea reserection and have the final space battle be with hux as the leader of the first order after kilo is redeemed and poe killing him while destroying the first order and have Finn get the storm troopers to switch sides and then kill phasma. This is just a few things that they could have done to make it better. They wouldn't be perfect but I do think it would be alright

The fact that Luke defeats Kylo without even having to physically fight him is the first time in the franchise we actually see a Jedi fully live up to Yoda’s iconic “a Jedi uses the force for knowledge and defense, never for attack” line. That’s something new and refreshing while building on the foundation that was laid before.

If there's ONE thing I could change in The Star Wars Sequel is have Rey use the darkside FAR more often than she was giving. In the first movie, she comes across the darkside and is warned by Leia to stay away from it. But then, later on in the first movie, Rey uses it to save Chewie-did it on purpose, and then she thinks, "Hey, I can use both the light and dark." And she then goes down this path where she's using both sides of the force but finds herself using the wvil more often because it's allowing her to find out clues to whete her parents are. In The Last Jedi, Rey is strlarting to show signs of using the darkside-gettint angry more ofetn, wanting to murder Kylo Ren because he murdered Han. She goes to Luke who isn’t in hiding but actually had crashed landed there and needed new supplies. Rey volunteers to go and then she lies to Luke about wanting to be taught more of the force while they find more supplpes to get off the island. Rey is lying because she found out there's a more powefuonaource if the darlside there and wants to access it to find the final piece of the puzzle to where her parents are.
As Rey is training, she starts to feel guilty about using the darkside but the forsce this time doesn’t come to her easily because it's teaching Rey to trust it more. When she does, she becomes more powerful but she lacks that patience. This is why she goes to the darkside because it's giving her the answers she wants NOW.
Rey finds the big source and attempts to find that source but Luke caches her and uses the force to push Rey away. He is angry and terrified at what she's done. Howeverz Rey, fulk if rage and Sith energy l, attacks Luke by sith lightening by accident. Rey, realizing what she's done, runs away and goes after Kylo herself to prove she isn’t becoming a monster.
Luke is severely injured and almost dies on thr spot had Rey not sent a distress call to Leia and notify her that Luke was severely injured. Rey wants to run away after Snoke told her that Rey knows why her parents won't come back: she killed them when she was a child because she used her sith power by accident because her parents were overbearing her. She had tried to hide the memory so badly because she didn’t want to come to that place of realization.
Disgraced and ashamed, Rey almost gets killed by Kylo Ren but Poe and Fimm come just in time to save her.
Rey.confesses to Liea what shr has done and ofders herself to be arrested for murder but Leia believee there can be good in her. Luke is in critical condition but Leia is healing him.
In the final episode l, Rey is trying tinrdi herself of the darkside but because she's been in it for so long, it's hard to get out. And the dakrside has gotten to her head whete she feels hopleless and paranoid.
That's all I got so far.

Again, there’s obviously nothing wrong enjoying them but technically they miss their mark

SPOILERS: Just spitballing here, but I think they had some good stuff in the sequels. I liked Rey and Kylo Ren as echoes of Luke and Vader. I really liked Adam Driver's acting. The thing where they get twinned is really cool. The legacy characters should have been more prominent. Get them in the mix a bit more, although the scene at the end of Force Awakens with Luke was cool. Finn was great. Should have done some sort of storm trooper uprising with him, also played up his nemesis more, I forget her name. She was cool in the first one. The little seer character was cool too, forget her name too. The scene where Han Solo was killed was amazing. In general, the whole series looked incredible. The First Order was dumb. Explore new ideas. Maybe civil war in a fragmented system. Maybe the common people are worse off than they were under the Empire, try to make that right. No Palpatine of course. Even Snope was too similar to Palpatine. A new big bad of some kind. Oh, BB-8 was great. What to do with the arcs exactly? Not totally sure, something about imbalance, the light being too strong now. Again, the dynamic between Kylo and Rey would be crucial. Some sort of inversion of the corruption arc from the original trilogy. Continuing the core themes of course. Luke is a big question. Maybe he's like the Yoda figure now, but feels like he doesn't have all the answers. Keep his nobility of spirit. I'll drop it there, just some quick takes. Coulda had potential, though.

I think the ideas set up by The Force Awakens were kind of interesting, but when you just introduce ideas and expect that you'll figure it out as you go along, that's not the way to go, especially with a franchise as beloved as Star Wars. I love The Force Awakens, regardless of how the rest of the trilogy played out, but it was definitely a strange way to continue the franchise. It's very similar to A New Hope in the story and they absolutely should've done something new and different.

For me, I think my one change would be replacing Rise Of Skywalker with Dual Of The Fates. It's a big change and obviously doesn't fix everything, but I think Dual Of The Fates ties the trilogy together the best it can despite the fractured visions, and that would have been more commendable then kinda giving up and making Rise Of Skywalker to appeal to people who didn't like The Last Jedi. That's just my take. But yeah, pretty difficult to fix everything unless you go back to the VERY beginning of their development.

The Sequels didn't have a big-picture idea, but they handled a lot of the typical execution aspects of blockbuster movies well enough. Both trilogies are failures in my eyes, but for basically the complete opposite reasons.

Rian’s cool. JJ, Kathleen and the rest of the studio are to blame, especially because there was so much potential for a solid trilogy. It’s hard to see TROS ever getting much love. But I can totally see TFA and TLJ being loved in the future (similar to how everyone used to hate the prequels and now they’re cool). TFA was already a crowd pleaser when it released, which most people tend to forget. And as much as I don’t like some choices TLJ made I can see people really liking it in the future.

@@Lobsterwithinternet that’s a fair point and I do agree with what you said about the prequels (which is rare these days). I just think with more time removed that people with view them through a new lens. I mean TFA was already liked at one point. I think people will like it in the future. TLJ was divisive but the ones who were fans are definitely passionate and I just think people will be less bothered with its story in the future. It seemed impossible for the prequels to ever become popular at a certain point. So anything is possible for the sequels, especially considering that they’re legitimately better movies. Once it becomes hip to like the sequels, it will snowball into a full blown movement.

    • @Lobsterwithinternet
      @Lobsterwithinternet 4 месяца назад +1

      @@king_supreme1102 I can see that.
As one of those people who liked TFA when it came out and understood why it was echoing ANH, it was mostly because it was evidence that someone other than George Lucas could make a Star Wars movie. A lot of those people who hated it at first were either George Lucas cultists who should have hated it just because George didn't sign off on it, EU fanboys who were angry that the EU wasn't any part of canon (even though George Lucas himself said that the EU was more like Fanfiction that had no bearing on his movies) and took it out on TFA and subsequently TLJ, or they were EU fanboys who were angry that the Sequel Trilogy wasn't going to be a direct film adaptation of the EU books.
As for TLJ, I think it’ll be much more difficult for a true redemption to take place since TLJ almost acts as a deconstruction and refutation of Star Wars itself and comes across as an outsider of the fanbase coming in and effectively trolling them by calling everything they care about as stupid and irrelevant.

Sadly, TLJ came out and basically ruined whatever goodwill and grace they had toward TFA and the Sequel Trilogy as a whole.
I was inspired to write a treatment for episode 9 after episode 8 came out that fixes most of the issues while building up both Kylo Ren and Rey’s character arcs. It also serves to bring The Old Republic period into canon, which I always thought was the way the property should have gone after the ending of this trilogy.
