This movie is so iconic in so many ways. Ever since its release, countless action films has copied aspects of this movie from the whole "wear all black suit" to the, now expected, knife fighting scenes. You can't watch a single action movie these days without a prolific knife fight scene, and they owe it to this movie. I just wish more (American) people know of this movie, as I believe it deserves WAY more credit for it's importance and influence for a shift within the action movie scene. Everyone raves about John Wick, but little do people know that John Wick was heavily inspired by The Man From Nowhere, and yet, no one seems to bring that up.
I really liked the way Ramrowan looks at Cha Tae-sik, like he's acknowledging "you're better than me", but also shock and almost admiration... That's something else that is so great about this movie... it's characters and their motivations make sense... This movie is just great.
@@Yunkzilla Quite possibly, although I personally enjoy this movie more because it's not just a man saving his daugher but instead an emotionally broken man who manges to create a connection with a stranger, as if she is his daugher.
This is my favorite korean action movie. This is such an severely underrated movie, even though it has some of the best cinematic action sequences that I've seen, especially the final fight scenes. SO F-ing Underrated. Also I absolutely love the ending of the movie
I'm so happy that you mentioned I saw the devil, i watched it about 6 years ago(wich i think is one of the best korean movies ever made) , it was my first korean film and from there my love for korean cinematography exploded, the man of nowhere was basically my second film and then Forgotten followed, Old Boy is another classic, i think koreans are ingenious in so many aspects.
. @8:53 i love how he just stands there and for a moment looks like hes kind of in love lol. for the rest of the fight he just watches his enemy slaughter the low level bandits just so he can get a chance to aggravate him. this man wanted to fight him one on one so badly that he put away his gun 🔫
In the last ten years, Donnie Yen's reinvention of Chinese martial arts on film have been some of the best I've seen. Implementing 80% commercial MMA and 20% traditional Kung Fu with less form and more flow is just impeccable. Watch Legend of Chen Zhen, Special ID, Flash Point, seriously he really made Martial Arts on film something more believable. Without none of the grand stunts like Jackie Chan does and none of the form only combat that Jet Li likes doing. It looks like an actual Pride FC match put on film. Then we got the Man from nowhere. This film took combat to a whole new level of brutality and grit. I just absolutely love the realistic take on street fighting. He just kills you, he doesn't give a shit. If he has a gun, he'll shoot you, if he has a knife, he'll stab you, if he has just his hands, he'll beat you to death using some of the nastiest and most brutal methods.
I'm impressed of your knowledge of fighting-how he disabled them before kill and keeping them in front; also the filapino martial art knife scene was accurate in the film. won-bin did an amazing job.
FROM THE FIRST TIME I SEEN HIM WON BIN AND HIS MOVIE , I WAS DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH HIM AND HIS MOVIE. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE LOOKED AT THIS MAN AND HIS MOVIE. BOTH THE MAN AND THE MOVIE ARE SUPER BAD ,BEST EVERI HAVE SEEN IT SO MANY TIMES 2 WERE I DON'T EVEN TRIP OFF THE SUBTITLE ANYMORE I KNOW IT BY HEART. IAM IN DEEP LOVE WITH WON BIN HEIE SO DAMN GOOD LOOKING. I WISH THAT HE WOULD PLEASE COME BACK AND MAKE MORE MOVIES. WE MISS HIM SO VERY MUCH. 🤗😚😚😘😘💖💖💖💖
This video, among a few others that mentioned this film, got me interested to actually watch it. Absolutely blown away, this film is amazing! I've mostly just seen Korean media with slightly more silly or cheesy acting in the romantic comedy / drama genre. There's nothing wrong with that, but this was the first time I was seeing Korean filmography with a more serious and gritty tone to it, and I want to see more! The acting and pacing was incredible.
This movie is so good that people call a Hollywood version of it came after 4 years ' Advanced for its time'. The man from nowhere is better than every action movie out there other than T2
I wish I had more time. I would have went through more of the action scenes in this film. I guess I can keep the videos short by highlighting just the fight scenes. If I did all the action scenes in this film it would have been a 30+ video and a couple days to make.
I think John Wick's director Chad Stahelski is really obsessed with this film. John Wick is not enough, he wants to do an official US remake of Man From Nowhere lmao 😂
The Asians are killing it making movies, original good writers, great actors and actresses, dam it’s like watching all the good movies back in the eighties and nineties and it’s got the comedy one liners in there too! Great stuff! Better than a lot of Hollywood movies out there today! ✌️
The rock or whomever Hollywood cast is nothing compared to these Asians. How many quirky lines are we going have to see before Hollywood gets on the Asian train and makes good movies
Why is Knife fighting scenes so believeable is: cuz all the men in SK are mandatory to have a military service which they also have a combat training with knifes
Ok, maybe I'm making a bigger deal of this than it really merits, but it always struck me as being rather odd that Ramrowan only speaks English the entire time and he's the only character to do so in the film. Is there some special significance to that? Is it some sort of implication about him being a strange outsider? I've never really figured it out.
chthulu27 inalways wondered that and I think it’s because he’s a Vietnamese actor in a Korean film. I always thought that dude would cross over to the states because his English gave me this noir feel.
@@Yunkzilla , that would be pretty cool. I checked his filmography and sadly it looks like he hasn't done very much since this film and his most recent project was in 2018. Would love to see him in another action project.
@@Yunkzilla , although I would like to make a slight correction: apparently he's actually Thai, although his character in the movie is supposed to be Vietnamese as I understand it. Hence the use of the pejorative "vietcong". Jeez, people from Asian cultures REALLY know how to carry a grudge!

I do entirely agree with this opinion.
Agreed, I forget how I stumbled across this film.
I think almost every western film (action) is a copy of asian film.
This movie made me cry man great film

It did take its stride from Taken, but come on that film was pretty good itself. Thanks for watching! Hangout to see more, bud.

this is even better than john wick\
One of the inspiration for John Wick, and now a Man from Nowhere will be remade by the John Wick director

This movie is so influential. I wish Won Bin continued acting.
I didn't know he stopped acting. For really never doing action before he really sold it. Wasn't he in the movie, MOTHER?

when you go through this movie you will notice there actually isn't a lot of action
the story itself does a lot to invest the viewers

T2 is legendary

one of my favorite action movies
thanks for this vid
Please watch "No tears for the dead" it has similar action. Really fast and straight to the point.
No tears for the dead is an ok movie but they went abit overboard with shooting . Gon were supposed to be dead like 3 times atleast .
Ramrowan could have killed Chae so many times here. In this case, the bad guy fights with honor.
The bad guy saw what Chae was about and wanted the challenge. As an elite game recognized game and wanted the challenge.
Chae didn’t flinch when Ramrowan shot the big thug as well. It’s like he knew.
