I feel like sometimes parents just know. As a child my father was absurdly strict, already teaching me what to do if I get grabbed. I thought it was annoying my whole life but I got a little more freedom after I turned 18 and was White-Van kidnapped by a man while working outside a small airport at my own job. Thanks to everything my dad taught me I managed to reassemble the sliding door (ripped apart from the inside so it wouldn't open) and tuck and roll at a stoplight. He was arrested 23 minutes after I called police based on my description. Thanks crazy Dad
Maybe you could share some of the things he taught you? Either here in the comments or even make a video? I’m one of those crazy moms I want to make sure my daughter has all the knowledge possible to protect herself as she gets older.
when you pointed out the fact that if he dies she would be trapped, that gave me chills. I couldn't imagine how she must off felt when he left her alone for days.
Thats exactly what happened to two young girls who were abducted by Marc Dutroux. He was incarcerated while they were still in his basement. His wife could have saved them but chose not to cause the basement " scared her ". Ugh.
@@eefajoseph5029 dammit you are ruining me 😉 I hate it that she could have saved them.... and possibly herself but honestly something should be done because if you're privy to a crime and are able to get to help in SOME way shape or form then you suffer consequences for not doing so.... 🤷♀️ that's a difficult situation to get into because what if she was terrified and brainwashed by the perpetrator... 🤔
Tip girls : If your are ever abducted (God forbid) pull out a strand of your hair and place it in the van . Maybe but a few strands in different places this way if the car/van is Searched they will find the hair and know you were there and your one step closer to being found, stay safe xo
I was getting anxiety from just hearing about how you had to crawl to get in there. I seriously had to remind myself to breathe. God love her and how strong she was.
I hate it when I hear that schools don't call parents if a child hasn't shown up. My school calls my mom to make sure that I am at home if she doesn't call to tell them that I won't be in.
jehovazwetness I think they should absolutely call now. I graduated high school in 2004. Yes I’m ancient. They didn’t call back then. She’s only a couple years older than me
It always terrifies me to think about the fact that the captor in this case, and many cases, was out in public doing normal things, interacting with store cashiers while buying this girl cookies and things, but little did they know it was for a girl he was holding hostage for years. Sickening.
hydrolito that's not what she meant. She wasn't implying to why they didn't notice suspicous purchases. She was just saying it's crazy that while they were ringing in his purchases little did they know where and what they were for..not knowing they were being brought to an abducted child.
Victim/survivor blaming is one of the things that infuriates me beyond compare. I am a survivor of abuse, and people who know my abuser have asked me "why didn't you just leave?" Maybe because I was terrified? Because I was manipulated and gaslit into believing that I deserved what was happening, and that I couldn't do any better. Sometimes the best you can do is survive, and that's enough.
As the granddaughter of an incredibly strong lady who suffered immensely at the hands of her husband, it gets to me on another level too. I'm so sorry for what you experienced ❤️ my grandmother didn't have anyone to go to and she was a young woman with a baby and no money, living in an incredibly misogynistic community where she would have been totally ostracised for daring to leave her husband (regardless of how at risk she was). She just couldn't have left, and yet I've heard this argument being used before. It's so harmful and demoralising for the victim. Ugh
“Why didn’t you” or “ I would’ve just” people should just be thankful they haven’t had to face the same challenges. If they had, they’d most likely have a little more respect. There are exceptions to that rule but not many.
Any time I hear about cases of people who are held captive inside a home for so many years like this story and the Castro girls in Ohio I can't help but wonder how many people are currently being held captive and nobody has any clue. Makes me really sad. Great job on this as always 💜
I know right? I've wondered about that too! And jaycee lee duggard i believe her name is. ... like 28 years she was held captive in a backyard had captors 2 daughters from rape and they had only known captivity being born into the situation! They were in early teen years when some detective woman was like no something is up with how this guys acting his 2 daughters are acting some kinda way that's just not natural let me look intro this and bam where 2 other parole officers and cops had interactions with the man his accomplice wife and even daughters and nope no sense of bad or too odd of behavior this is worth me just looking not only inside his home on my parole check in with this odd guy he's got a crazy tent encampment visible in backyard im gonna go look around since checking house for contraband well duh backyard obviously having something going on I'm gonna check there too if they'd done it she'd been found while still a child like a handful of hellish yrs instead.of almost 3 decades worth. Be watchful know when something feels off its cuz well somethings off.
Don't forget Elisabeth Fritzl another kidnapping in Austria she was held captive for 24 years by her own father and has 7 children with him in the cellar underneath her family home truly horrifying.
OMG I was watching the MSNBC Oscar Pistorius trial for shooting his Girlfriend when they broke the channel wave and went live with Amanda's phone call. What pisses me off so much about this is Amanda's mom went to The Montell Williams show to ask The "Psychic" Sylvia Brown if she would ever she her daughter again to which Sylvia says "Yes, in heaven." Her mom asks" so she's not alive" and Sylvia responded "No, she'll be found under water, in a body of water." Amanda's Mom with all the hope in the world went there imagining that she'd hold on to hope and this clown of a scammer "psychic" Sylvia Brown takes that from her and she went back to Cleveland,2 miles from where her daughter and granddaughter were being held by Ariel Castro to die from cancer. I hate them for that! You don't have the right to ruin ppls lives and make them victims once more and pretend to know that their already gone when you don't!😰😰😰 Her bravery and intelligence along with Michelle and Gina is unmatched in the last 40 years. Michelle survived 4 miscarriages and 11 years, Amanda 10 years and a baby, and Gina 9 years. They tricked him enough into getting comfortable and leaving Amanda and the baby unlocked upstairs. She seized that moment and with the Crazy neighbor and the men across the streets sense of detail in their neighborhood they were saved. Had they not acted Ariel was only a mile away driving back home when caught. I have so much admiration for the bravery those girls held to stay alive. Castro was a psychopath. His daughter killed her own baby surely from all the torture Ariel Castro subjected her and her mother& siblings too their entire lives. The police had been there 6 times in the 11 years span and NEVER found them!😰😰😰😰
I never say goodbye to family or friends, I say "I love you" just in case it's the last thing i say to them. When my grandmother committed suicide, the last thing I ever did was slam the car door as she dropped me off for school because we had argued. I never got to apologize. It's so important to me to always end with "I love you"
I told my grandmother I loved her as I left her house the day before she died. It impacted me so hard that now I tell anyone I’m close to I love you every single time I leave them or get off the phone with them.
Wow. She was a smart and intelligent girl during her time in captivity. The fact that she forgave him everyday, wow...how she paid attention to details and kept her mental health as best as she could. Such a beautiful, brave young woman.
Yet the media had been negative and expected her to have been hateful of her captor, doing that would have been harmful to her own well being, and left her mental health completely broken. She should have been admired for her capacity to have empathy and compassion. To understand that was what would keep her sane,at such a young age, is what preserved her mental & emotional well being, it's admirable
@Karen McGlone. The Media should be absolutely ashamed of their actions & the individuals responsible should be relieved of their employment & "Named & Shamed" in the Papers
No "shade" to anyone but its crazy how theres so many 20 min long videos of this case & yours is an hour! You just do so much research & detail. I know youre told this alot but you really deserve the credit.
"Never leave without saying goodbye, no matter how angry you are, because you never know what could happen" is something my mom always has said to me as well. You never really think too much of it until it's applied to a situation like this. It's just so true and so upsetting to imagine not having one final goodbye.
When I was really young sometimes I would accidentally say goodbye instead of goodnight to my mum before bed and she would be like NEVER SAY THAT because we're Irish (superstitious af) and she thought it was a bad omen. Now that I'm an adult we joke about it and she says that she meant what you've mentioned in your comment, not that I was predicting my own death and tempting fate, but I'm not convinced 😂 you just reminded me of this. It's definitely a great way to think, because you genuinely never know what's we around the corner. Not necessarily because you're tempting banshees to steal your soul, though. That's just my mum and her family (though she's reluctant to say so).
oh hi mark My little sister (12 years younger) used to say buhbye instead of goodnight and it drove me crazy haha. I would also be like “no no no don’t say that!”
Me too, I always do my best to say goodbye to family and friends and say 'I love you' as much as possible. My Mum commented once that before her Dad died suddenly (heart attack) the last thing he'd said to her was that he loved her and that memory helps her deal with her grief so that's why I do it because that really struck me.
My last words to my cousin were very angry ones due to her addiction. She died 2 months ago, 23 yrs old, 4 months pregnant of a bad batch of heroin on her last 'party' as she was heading to rehab the next day. As much as I'm angry with her for using pregnant and blame her for her child's death, she was loved, she was wanted and I wish I had left her with words of that instead of words of anger. I'll always regret that... In cases. like my loved one, where the person is toxic, you still can say goodbye (for a longer term, if needed) but also say you love them and wish them the best in life. I know I won't let it happen again.
Elaborating on what you said regarding why she didn't run away when she had the chance, kidnapping is about power and a lot of kidnappers play games with their victims where they pretend to leave the door unlocked or pretend to leave them in the house alone, or something similar. Then when the victim tries to run the kidnapper is hiding just out of sight waiting to catch them, and punish them for running. Eventually it reaches the point where even if they see a clear opportunity to escape they can't take it because what if it's a trap?
Agreed. There are many reasons why people dont just "try to escape." Also, in this case specifically she had given him a letter with her address literally on it (when she was younger) so no wonder she was terrified.
I think they know they've only got one shot, timing has to be absolutely perfect or that's it. They may never get the chance again, and their lives literally depend on that one shot. I hate how people say things like, "well I would have _____", or "no way I'd have let ______ happen"..... More often than not, ppl freeze on the spot. All their coulda, woulda, shoulda, doesn't amount to jack. Especially when they've never been in those shoes.
@@lalabandicoot4736 TRUE TALK! My mother would brag to coworkers that she would never let someone snatch her purse from her she would fight like HELL! Well a (smart ass but love him) coworker saw her at convenience store and she never noticed him... He snatched her purse and ran.... My mom FROZE!!!!!!She didn't DO ANYTHING her bold self said she would ALWAYS tell me.... NEVER assume what you would or even could do in a situation that you would be under such duress! 😊
He often would strip her naked and tell her she could just leave. And being that she was young and nervous any time she started getting the courage up he would slam the door in her face. He also told her the doors and windows were armed with bombs. The book is worth the read. I read both her books and watched the movie based on it. The movie added a few details from the police reports that Natascha confirmed were true.
This poor girl! 🥺😔She was held captive by a psychopath for 8 horrific years! And SURVIVED! Those years from 10 years to 18 years old are crucial for the brain and ones psyche to develop only to be tortured and abused in every way possible is so saddening! BUT only to be made into a victim again by the media & public is disgusting. She has every right to keep particular details to herself. People just love to hear the gory details, it’s sickening!! 🤬
Not finished with the video yet, but man, her childhood really hits home for me. Non-affectionate mom, expected to be perfect, strict upbringing, etc. That in itself is a recipe for a lot of issues (trust me, lol), and being kidnapped on top of that... she must be a very strong person.
GIRL I'm so proud of you getting an audible sponsorship! I know it must be hard to get brands to sponsor these true crime videos! Honestly, you're such an inspiration! Anytime I'm feeling unmotivated, I just look to you and then get my butt up and get moving!💪🏼
Brooke Makenna A lot of true-crime youtubers are getting sponsored by Audible in this week, I saw a video of Bella Fiori and Kendall Rae yesterday they are also sposored by them.
I was so overjoyed when they contacted me! I get sponsorship emails daily for useless things that don’t benefit my content or my subscribers. THIS will help share even more stories from victims, and it will help me incorporate more content from books. I usually shy away from it because I know people won’t have time to read it. This will help so much!!
always disgusted me how when she was found the first thing someone in the policeforce did was leak it to the media, she didn't even get to go home with her mom in a nice and quiet way, instead she got escorted to a car covered in a blanket.
I'm gonna get flack for this but there's a force in the universe called energy (aka law of attraction). you can literally attract what you are afraid of, espec if you engage in intense thoughts about it. she was primed by her mother from very young to be ultra-afraid and even watched abductions on the news daily. I'm not surprised it happened. If you have such negative vibes re: a topic you should really work to soothe them.
Unfortunately, it seems he planned to abduct a child one way or another, and plotted being on that school route in the morning... I think he would have just ended up abducting a different little girl, possibly someone without the same capacity to survive or please him and could have ended up with a worse fate than this poor child. There could have also been the possibility of more leads on the abduction if it was done elsewhere or on someone else, but... considering they had leads in this scenario leading to him as well, I doubt it would have resulted in him being caught... :/ He could have ended up continuing to freely commit more crimes for a longer period of time too, without being caught after 8 years by this girl escaping.
It was so planned out, he would have taken someone no matter what. He might have ended up taking the 12 year old witness who was farther back on the sidewalk 😔
@@gabstownsend I agree completely. They are mere humans and some are good some are bad. Some are better at their jobs than others. Sometimes their hands are tied due to rights and regulations.
it makes a lot of sense to me why she would want to own the house. seems like she wants to have control over the thing that traumatized her so much. since her kidnapper killed himself, this is likely the highest extend of control she can get. its very smart psychologically i think, shes so strong.
Damn, you’re good at explaining these stories! Thank you for giving voices to those that either can’t talk any more or just can’t tell their story one more time. You are a natural at this. You’re doing such a great job. I feel for Natasha and I feel sorry for what she had gone through. The best thing for her is to live life to its fullest with a big smile!
I hate that some people in Germany call her a liar since they think there was a bunch more people involved in the abduction.Even if there was something like a pedophile ring,do people really expect her to talk about it and risk her life after surviving this torture?I wish Natascha all the best!
people also say they dont believe her because at first she never mentioned that he sexually assaulted her. like what are people expecting? she escapes and then wants everybody to know her business? wtf
Thanks for this, Danelle. I‘m from Germany and I saw/read/heard all the hate and accusations against Natascha during the last 12 years. IT IS DISGUSTING. People cannot stand that she is so strong! I just don’t get what is wrong with this people? Priklopil never had to justify. But there is a best friend of Priklopil, that even saw Natascha during her captivity. With this friend police is making the same damn mistakes again, because this best friend once said „I had no idea what was actually going on!“ and police nodded and HEADED OFF. This best friend must know a lot,but they just don’t care.
Freaky Frieda same here. I am from Germany too. But I am so glad for her. The way she lived with it during captivity and after made her get through this. No one that has not been in such a situation themselves shouldn’t judge at all.
Misogyny. Women aren't suppose to be strong. If something horrible happens to them, they're suppose to just fall apart. It's been proven that women who don't act like the typical female victim, in a rape case, for instance, are less likely to be belived. The mother went through the same thing, since people didn't think she showed enough emotions. Women are told we are too emotional, but if a woman don't show a lot of emotions, she's shamed for it.
@Julie Sprik Just to clarify: it's actually the Austrian authorities since the case happened there. But as the neighbouring country sharing the same language, a lot of the media in regards to her was automatically broadcast over here as well. And I agree, people's reactions to her, as well as the coverage on the whole thing, was sickening. And the police work was a joke. I remember so clearly seeing one of her first interviews, and the reporter wanted her to SO BADLY to say that yes, she was raped (and probably even get details) when she was so uncomfortable and had made it very clear that subject was out of bounce. He tried multiple times to stir the conversation there - nevermind triggering the hell out of her - and as a woman about her age, it creeped me the hell out. As for people victim blaming, they need to shut up until they've gone through the same thing. Everyone did it to Jaycee Dugard as well, when she didn't "hate her captor enough" after she was found, never thinking that having been held by him for 18 years and depending on him for her continued survival: getting used to and along with him was the only thing she could possibly do to keep herself sane and safe. Let alone the fact that Stockholm Syndrome is a thing. People are incredibly stupid, but unfortunately have to have an opinion on anything despite that fact.
Her feeling sorry for him could be part of trauma bonding/Stockholm Syndrome. It's difficult to not end up with some trauma bonding in a sitch like this. She was dependent on him for her survival. It's disgusting that people would judge her for things like not escaping sooner, etc. I wish people would read up more on the effects of trauma or just shut up with their judgments.
I know u posted this 2 years ago but I just wanna reply lol :) I read her book and she’s said she hates the theory of Stockholm syndrome, she forgave him to survive, she didn’t want to be angry at someone she had to see every day so she forgave him, it made it easier to detach herself from what was happening
Wow how can someone blame her! Thank God she is ok and if she wants to buy sell or put that house as a museum I think she deserves to do what she wants. I hope she has a happy life
Really? I read of he saying she bought it so she could destroy it so people wouldn't come buy and gawk and that was the only reason she bought it....did you hear it's going to be a museum? That's so crazy!
My Great Aunt Lena was found in a field beaten and almost dead at age 18 by my uncle Charley who was a well digger. She had been held captive for four years by a mad man since she was 14 years old who had become angry after she got too old to be his victim any longer. My uncle got her to a hospital and visited her every day for hours. After she was released he took her to his home as she had no where to go. Her parents had moved away and she needed a lot of care. For the next two years my uncle nursed her and they were later married. Her legs had been badly broken and she wore braces on her legs for the rest of her life. She was in constant pain but she was the sweetest woman I ever knew. She taught me about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and I used to love spending time with her very much. My mom took me to visit her often. I hope when I pass out of this world it is my Aunt Lena who greets me on the other side.
I think Natasha is very brave! And she did what she had to do in that terrible situation, to survive. She never lost hope! People who judge her, have NO idea what she went through or how she must have felt. I think she's a strong surviver!
You and Georgia did a great job covering this case! You each brought your own unique take on the case. You guys also brought different details to the case. Love yall both
I am glad you covered this case because it shows that missing people do return alive. I’m from Austria and I remember quite clearly, when she returned, even though I was pretty young back then. I admire her for her strength and what she got through. It is surreal to think about spending eight years in captivity and especially when being in puberty. It’s sad hearing that she still has some problems with her past (which is completely understandable). I haven’t watched to whole video yet, so I don’t know if you mentioned it, but she bought the house she was forced to spend eight years in and that clearly shows that she still kind of keeps holding on to her past even though I really wish for her, she can let it go someday because she deserves to live a carefree life.
Alienwalrus _ idk if you’ve heard of Jaycee Duguard or Elizabeth Smart they’re abduction cases from America! If you’ve heard of it then sorry for bringing it up again, but if not then yay! Also if you’re from America already and know those cases don’t ruin it for this person just in case
I thought she bought the house because she didn’t want other people to buy it? I believe she thought that people would try to turn it into a tourist attraction of some sort to make money off of and doesn’t sit well with her because of horrible experience she lived in that house.
"I love you" is ALWAYS the last thing I say no matter what. If the person I'm talking to says something else after, I'll say it again to make sure it's the last thing said lol. In person & on the phone.
You really have a knack for this, I've seen a lot of videos on Natascha, watched her interviews and listened to podcasts about her and you still manage to give it your own twist and extraordinary detail. It’s not unusual for me to be watching one of your videos and only realise mid way through that I’d actually watched a video on the person in the past, you just add sooo much more detail and insight in to the cases that a lot of other RUclipsrs miss.
Given that any individual who would kidnap another and hold them captive has severe mental health issues, I think Priklopil was mirroring his own upbringing. The fact that he doted on her one day reading her stories, then snapped the next, the comments about her self worth, and the fact I think 'The people' he alluded to, was a version of how his mother may have disciplined him. 'You better behave or there are people that will come take you', is possibly something that was held over his head. I commend Ms. Kampusch for coming out of this alive, and finding the strength to and get her life in order.
Girl your makeup, hair and holiday setting is on point. I’ve been following you for about a year now and it’s been so amazing to watch your channel grow. I’m so proud of you for how far you’ve come. This is seriously just the beginning 💓
@@DanelleHallan, your delivery is what drew me into your videos, and after watching every 👏 single 👏 one 👏, I've just grown more and more fond of you 💖 Your heart is so genuine telling their stories.
NEVER comply when they tell you to be quiet. The reason they need your silence is to not draw attention. If you scream there is a good chance they will abandon their plan. If they harm you there will possibly be a witness to it. If they run they can always say that you made a mistake and they actually had no intention of harming you and simply ran as to not scare you. If you get in the car then the next place they stop will be somewhere where there will be no one to help you. SCREAM YOUR BUTT OFF!!!!!
My little 10 year old sister was almost kidnapped, an older man in a black van pulled up to her bus stop starting trying to lure her and her friend into the van, they immediately started screaming and they ran away, I'm so glad that they were smart and ran, he could have chased them but he didn't because by some miracle my neighbor was running late for work and chased the guy away.
I've been following this story for a while now. I've watched the movie, watched documentary's and now I'm about to listen to her book. This woman is one of the strongest ppl I've read up on. Also Jaycee, Kristen, and the victims of Ariel Castro. I love how much passion you show when telling these stories. You show so much respect to the victims and families of. I'm a true crime buff also and I look forward to you posting every week. I've watched every single video. Thank you so much for what you do.
I found you through a recommended video watching other true crime and I'm so glad that I did! You obviously care a great deal about these cases and research them meticulously. Thank you! ♥️
@@rachelharris7516 It's been about 4-5 years since I've seen the film so I can't really remember most details but it is on Netflix! It is called 3065 Days and you could potentially watch it as well. :)
Erin Williams victim is not a dirty word. Taking the stigma away from being a victim is what we need to do. I am both a victim and a survivor. Being a victim is not my fault and I won’t be ashamed for being a victim 💛
Well, that is nice, I wish it was easier to be a survivor and not a victim, I'm tired of always being the victim, long story short, my stalker won't leave me alone.... no matter how many restraining orders against him or tell him to leave me alone..... He doesn't get the hint.
I don't think anyone who hasn't been on an emotionally or mentally abusive/manipulative relationship can really understand how broken your spirit becomes and how paralyzing the fear can be! I pray this Darling has found the support and healing she absolutely deserves! It's heartbreaking to hear how so many people treated her once she escaped! I wonder if she is keeping a lot of the details to herself because that something she can control. For so long she had no control over any aspect of her life. I met a woman who survived the Golden State Killer... she is now a therapist for women who are themselves survivors of sexual assault. Pretty incredible how strong and resilient a 'broken' spirit can be! I was absolutely amazed and incredibly impressed With Elizabeth Smart! When she was recovered, she said she didn't need therapy, she did not need treatment for PTSD, she said her family gave her everything she needed and she is such a well adjusted woman today! She really is incredible! Her family is as well!
Also, The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker is available on audible and I would definitely recommend you give it a listen if you haven’t already. It’s about de Becker interviewing survivors of serial rapists and killers to figure out both which instincts the survivors ignored prior to the attacks and which instincts helped them escape the situation. The Gift of Fear is one of my favorite books, if not my favorite. There are so many important facts and details outlined in the book and it’s an incredible read. Would highly recommend.
well look at you upgrading! I never noticed the echo but saw people whining about it. I just wish people who complain about every little thing would stick a pacifier in and shut it!
I'm from Vienna, Austria.. I remember it like it was yesterday.. even though I was around 8 when she returned Since then I always cross the street whenever I see a parked white van because I was taught to never go near one because of Natascha Kampusch
L F oh my god.. first of all.. Austria is a Country, Second of all of course it isn’t safe it’s in Central Europe you could be in a different country in 2-3 hours and would hardly be found especially back then when you’re abducted or committing a crime.
🤔 PLEASE listen to or consume in some way Australia Podcasts for true crime... they have PLENTY of people who are as horrid if not worse than our very own countries cases of psychopathic killers!! You truly are unsafe ANYWHERE!
Natasha’s survival instinct is phenomenal. This case really touched my heart. I’m going to have to get her book. How happy I am for her she was able to escape. I hope she was able to build a healthy and loving relationship with her mother. She deserves it.
Yep, I did not think that it was fair, Brigitte Sirny ended up telling Natascha she was no longer allowed to see her father, after she came home @ 8:30 pm
She went through 8 years of torture..She is a survivor. This young girl turned into a strong woman. I truly wish the rest of her life is happy and no struggle.
Her abduction began on Monday, March 2nd, 1998, from aged 10, until Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006 aged 18, she finally escaped from her abductor’s house in Stasshof An Der Nordbahn
I loved your spiel at the end. I cannot stand ppl who say “well I would’ve done this...or that” STFU you have NO idea how you would react in that situation...it’s easy to say what “you would do” and how “you would act” when you’re safe in normal everyday life but when you’re in an unexpected dangerous situation, everything changes. Ppl are ignorant and full of bullshit
I always live by that "never leave with out saying goodbye" phrase. Whenever I leave somewhere or someone I care about or hang up on the phone I always say that I love them because you never know if it could be the last time
I am the same way which is why I was worried to first try it. There are a few I can’t get into but once I started finding the right ones I couldn’t stop! I usually just do a chapter a day while in the car since the chapters are USUALLY thirty minutes long! It’s perfect!
I have the same problem. I have to be in the right mood. Otherwise I suddenly realize I missed the last 10 minutes and have to replay an entire chapter. It's still worth using audiobooks for falling asleep, though. That being said, I cancelled Audible after 3 months when I realized that most public libraries have audiobooks. I used to check out discs and burn them, but now I just download them from the library website straight to my phone without leaving the house.
I have seen it as well! It’s like every possible way you can consume this story you find out new things. It’s honestly heartbreaking because just when you think it can’t get more insane it does.
Thank you for covering this case!💕 I'm from germany and was around 16 when this case blew up all over the media, when she managed to escape. Not even two weeks, I believe, after her escape she went on a TV show and people were shocked how well spoken, educated and confident she came across. They probably expected a crying victim, but she was quite the opposite and I believe this is a reason why many people gave her hate and thought something was fishy about her abduction and her relationship with Priklopil. Because she didn't want to talk about possible sexual abuse, her story was discredited and the rumors went through the roof, speculating she secretly had been in love with this sicko. How the media and the public treated her was just horrible. Many just disliked her demeanor! It's crazy and sad, that this happened and the victim became the focus of so much hate and conspiracy theories. I respect her so much, the way she was able to maintain sane, even was able to educate herself and found ways to manipulate her abductor, just shows how strong of a person she is!
I love your passion for crime research, I can tell you’re very intuitive and persistent and really dive deep into the emotional implications of crime for the victim and perpetrator
thank you for covering this case!! I live near Vienna, about 40 mins away from where this took place. I feel like giving her the house is a weird kind of “compensation”, but I can also understand why she wouldn’t just want to sell it.
I'm German and this case was ALL over the news for literally months. I remember the coverage actually getting pretty nasty towards her at some point, but I've just always admired her strenght.
Thank you for telling this story with so much empathy and understanding! I am sick of all the people hating on this intelligent and strong woman who survived such an ordeal with so much bravery!
As a kid who watched Americas most wanted every week as a 9yr old, i get it. Im still creeped out my vans, even if i see a cable or ups van, im not going near it.
I watched the film in class(I'm studying to become a troubled youth and special needs worker) and my teacher said "there is going to be a moment in your life that you will work with someone who went through some of the things she went through. You don't need to treat them with the outmost pity. They're human beings with a troubled past but they're still human beings so respect them"
Your knowledge in your videos and research is absolutely amazing! I love love love your videos and I always watch them while getting ready. I just love that you cover big cases and little ones. You're my favorite RUclipsr and I'm loving your hair / camera!!💘
Despite the horrible circumstances of most cases including this one it's refreshing in a way to hear about a case where the victim is found alive! I love your channel bc I am very interested in true crime especially raising awareness for missing people and in cold cases as well. You do such a great job with those things! Im very grateful someone like you is so dedicated to doing this. I fully support what you do in your videos. You are a voice for these poor victims. 👍❤💗💖
Ahhhhhh I'm so excited that you covered this case!! I'm from Austria and i still remeber so clearly when she escaped. The whole country was so shocked. It was unbelievable for everyone that she was held by that man all those years.
Not only Austria, I think all of Europe was shocked.. I’m 19 now and I remember it clear as day light how I was always taught to stay away from any white van because of Nataschas case.. it’s very horrifying that no one found her and she just escaped because she was so intelligent and had a chance.
Not at all...she didn't create anything..she warned. Thats a very odd thing to say...This guy would've taken someone..and it wasn't someone elses fault..none but his! Warning your child or others if you sense danger..is not wrong or creating anything.
This was such a horrible experience for Natascha that no one should have to go through. It really makes you think about what's happening right now to people that no one knows about. The world can a horrible place.
I like how she spent all those years being controlled but escaped to control the media, and at one point was finally ready to discuss everything in a book. She is definitely amazing. Had she tried to escape at any other time, she probably wouldn't have made it.
Hi, I'm from Vienna and my friend saw Natascha actually a couple of months ago. She couldnt help but stare at her, just thinking about all the horrible things she's been through.
This is the MOST in-depth, well researched, all-the-details (including many not well known) version of this case I have EVER seen (I have seen so many). Danelle: you have gone above and beyond. Honestly - I don’t know how you do it. You always provide way more information than any other source.
There are some very telling words between Natasha and her father that might be included, as well. She stands up to her father who insisted that there were two abductors because of the young witness. Her father also gave interviews himself and speculated about things. Thus, she had to defend herself to him. I also believe that she did reveal that she was sexually assaulted. People in her community accused her of killing her own baby. Disgusting humans.
I second this! I swear, the background voice ("who said you could use the phone?!") in the call made after the abduction (if it was an abduction) sounds like a woman pretending to be a man. There's so many theories about this one.
i’ve been a subscriber for such a long time and every video you post just makes me a bigger fan! you give victims a voice and the quality of your content is top notch. you somehow maintain a large youtube channel and a family and i have nothing but admiration for you!!
Wow. 😰 I’m glad your survived.
This just gave me goosebumps. I am so glad you were able to escape. Wow.
That's incredible!

Ugh.
I literally broke out crying and I just could not believe that happening
@@eefajoseph5029 dammit you are ruining me 😉 I hate it that she could have saved them.... and possibly herself but honestly something should be done because if you're privy to a crime and are able to get to help in SOME way shape or form then you suffer consequences for not doing so.... 🤷♀️ that's a difficult situation to get into because what if she was terrified and brainwashed by the perpetrator... 🤔

@eefa Joseph. Yea, the Wife went to the house to feed the Dog's but didn't feed the Girl's!

Tip girls :
If your are ever abducted (God forbid) pull out a strand of your hair and place it in the van . Maybe but a few strands in different places this way if the car/van is Searched they will find the hair and know you were there and your one step closer to being found, stay safe xo
That's actually so smart thank you
this!! as well as: if you have nail polish on, pick it off in the car BUT leave some on your nails as well
These are not tips to be found alive, but tips to have a conviction for your assault & murder.
Just Heather Still, if you are going to be murdered, at least they will have evidence.
Also make sure you scratch whoever is attacking/abducting you as much as possible so they find the DNA under your nails
Omg just the thought of being trapped in that tiny underground cell... I would’ve died of a panic attack from the claustrophobia alone!
You really wouldn’t the need to stay alive will make you forget everything else all the things that scared you before will disappear
Exactly :(
Same. I’m getting a panic attack hearing her story retold.
I was getting anxiety from just hearing about how you had to crawl to get in there. I seriously had to remind myself to breathe. God love her and how strong she was.
Me too im so claustrophobic
the way she was treated at the end reminds me of a black mirror episode. People gawking at her traumatic experience smh people are disgusting
Not black mirror....happens a lot in real life...for a long time now.
I hate it when I hear that schools don't call parents if a child hasn't shown up. My school calls my mom to make sure that I am at home if she doesn't call to tell them that I won't be in.
Hallee Rose this started in the 1990s. Unfortunately this wasn’t something most schools did back then.
exactly! if I didn’t show up by 9:15 (school started at 8:30) my parents would get a call
My school doesn't always call and if they do, they usually call the house phone which my mom doesn't even use. And I'm 13
jehovazwetness I think they should absolutely call now. I graduated high school in 2004. Yes I’m ancient. They didn’t call back then. She’s only a couple years older than me
my school calls every hour after every class i miss they don’t play around
It always terrifies me to think about the fact that the captor in this case, and many cases, was out in public doing normal things, interacting with store cashiers while buying this girl cookies and things, but little did they know it was for a girl he was holding hostage for years. Sickening.
Guys eat cookies also so they would have no reason to think anything unusual.
hydrolito that's not what she meant. She wasn't implying to why they didn't notice suspicous purchases. She was just saying it's crazy that while they were ringing in his purchases little did they know where and what they were for..not knowing they were being brought to an abducted child.
Fr it’s disguisting
Victim/survivor blaming is one of the things that infuriates me beyond compare.
I am a survivor of abuse, and people who know my abuser have asked me "why didn't you just leave?" Maybe because I was terrified? Because I was manipulated and gaslit into believing that I deserved what was happening, and that I couldn't do any better.
Sometimes the best you can do is survive, and that's enough.
you are a strong person.sending you love💙💜❤
As the granddaughter of an incredibly strong lady who suffered immensely at the hands of her husband, it gets to me on another level too. I'm so sorry for what you experienced ❤️ my grandmother didn't have anyone to go to and she was a young woman with a baby and no money, living in an incredibly misogynistic community where she would have been totally ostracised for daring to leave her husband (regardless of how at risk she was). She just couldn't have left, and yet I've heard this argument being used before. It's so harmful and demoralising for the victim. Ugh
“Why didn’t you” or “
I would’ve just” people should just be thankful they haven’t had to face the same challenges. If they had, they’d most likely have a little more respect. There are exceptions to that rule but not many.
yall are gonna make me cryyy. Thank yall for your kind words
You are brave and a beautiful soul!
Ugh I think about this too and it really bothers me. I wish there was something I could do but I’m just no detective. 😞
I think about that all the time. Gives me the worst anxiety. These pieces of shit just need to be executed the minute they got caught
What pisses me off so much about this is Amanda's mom went to The Montell Williams show to ask The "Psychic" Sylvia Brown if she would ever she her daughter again to which Sylvia says "Yes, in heaven." Her mom asks" so she's not alive" and Sylvia responded "No, she'll be found under water, in a body of water."
Amanda's Mom with all the hope in the world went there imagining that she'd hold on to hope and this clown of a scammer "psychic" Sylvia Brown takes that from her and she went back to Cleveland,2 miles from where her daughter and granddaughter were being held by Ariel Castro to die from cancer.
I hate them for that! You don't have the right to ruin ppls lives and make them victims once more and pretend to know that their already gone when you don't!😰😰😰
Her bravery and intelligence along with Michelle and Gina is unmatched in the last 40 years.
It's so important to me to always end with "I love you"
I am so sorry 🥺
I told my grandmother I loved her as I left her house the day before she died. It impacted me so hard that now I tell anyone I’m close to I love you every single time I leave them or get off the phone with them.
This is true. I'm so sorry for your loss.
😭
🥺🥺🥺❤️
Wow. She was a smart and intelligent girl during her time in captivity. The fact that she forgave him everyday, wow...how she paid attention to details and kept her mental health as best as she could. Such a beautiful, brave young woman.
Exactly!! For a 10 year old little girl, she sure had her mind right!

@@FlapjackR it's definitely spooky from an adults perspective! 😂
The "what if its a trap" thought would probably be the thought that paralyzed me in that situation I think.

Natascha Kampusch is a SURVIVOR!!!!!
On March 2nd, 1998 Natascha Kampusch was just 10-years-old when she was abducted by a man while on her way to school
Not finished with the video yet, but man, her childhood really hits home for me. Non-affectionate mom, expected to be perfect, strict upbringing, etc. That in itself is a recipe for a lot of issues (trust me, lol), and being kidnapped on top of that... she must be a very strong person.

always disgusted me how when she was found the first thing someone in the policeforce did was leak it to the media, she didn't even get to go home with her mom in a nice and quiet way, instead she got escorted to a car covered in a blanket.
Yep, I remember seeing the news about Natascha Kampusch’s escape from an article on BBC News
It's crazy to think how one moment or decision can change your life, what would have happened if she did cross the street, really makes you wonder
@@cheery-hex after reading this I'm so much more scared of the world
Unfortunately, it seems he planned to abduct a child one way or another, and plotted being on that school route in the morning...
He probably would have still taken her because I think it was planned
It was so planned out, he would have taken someone no matter what. He might have ended up taking the 12 year old witness who was farther back on the sidewalk 😔

it makes a lot of sense to me why she would want to own the house. seems like she wants to have control over the thing that traumatized her so much. since her kidnapper killed himself, this is likely the highest extend of control she can get. its very smart psychologically i think, shes so strong.

People victim blame a 10 year old?!? Wow, that's messed up.
Another example to always trust your instinct. She felt it as soon as she saw him.
I‘m from Vienna and to me one of the worst things was that some people said she lied and this is made up.
That is an amazing story. I’m so glad your uncle found her and you got to spend time with her and the wonderful affect she had on you.
I think Natasha is very brave! And she did what she had to do in that terrible situation, to survive. She never lost hope! People who judge her, have NO idea what she went through or how she must have felt. I think she's a strong surviver!

@@margebunn6039 after looking at your channel, I'm pretty sure your opinion is irrelevant, dear
Alienwalrus _ idk if you’ve heard of
Jaycee Duguard or Elizabeth Smart they’re abduction cases from America! If you’ve heard of it then sorry for bringing it up again, but if not then yay! Also if you’re from America already and know those cases don’t ruin it for this person just in case
@@Bananabob12 I'm confused - the OP isn't from the US?
I thought she bought the house because she didn’t want other people to buy it? I believe she thought that people would try to turn it into a tourist attraction of some sort to make money off of and doesn’t sit well with her because of horrible experience she lived in that house.
Melissa Michael the OP says in their comment that they are from austria :) where this case took place unfortunately
@@ifellforyourdreamsx3 Right! Thus my confusion at @Katie Bates asking the OP if they're from America...=/
Your narration is so great. You always show great concern for the victims and families💗
I didn't hear anything about sexual abuse. I pray this did not happen
HUGE compliment❤️
So true!!!
I’ve been watching you since 5,000 subs and you are amazing for what u do.

i have been watching her since then also!!!!
Also, if they grab you, go limp. Most likely they won't be able to pick you up. And keep screaming!
@Reddf Vgu You fight and scream at the same time. whatever you do you do not get in that car!
This is a great example of always trust your gut instinct and if it’s “cross the road” you cross the damn road.
Thank you so much for he support❤️
What about her mother and father's reaction to her being found? Amazing story. Thank you for your research and sharing! Brave young woman!!!!
They were so glad to see that Natascha was found, but she looked thin and pale after being held captive for 8 years
I found you through a recommended video watching other true crime and I'm so glad that I did! You obviously care a great deal about these cases and research them meticulously. Thank you! ♥️
Same here!!!! And Danelle is amazing!!!!! Ive been watching her videos obsessively the last few days!!!
You have great story telling skills! Sad how cruel this world can be! 😞
Did he like ever buy her pads or anything? Considering at some point she would have gotten her period.
And did he ever buy her clothes or something
I have never read the book but watched the film that followed it and according to it, he did buy her pads
What about deodorant and clean under ware bras shampoo conditioners
@@rachelharris7516 It's been about 4-5 years since I've seen the film so I can't really remember most details but it is on Netflix! It is called 3065 Days and you could potentially watch it as well. :)
Guy had a mother so they could have thought he bought kotex or tampons for her.
Let’s call them SURVIVORS and not “victims”...that’s a start in honoring their horrific experiences and stories❤️
Erin Williams victim is not a dirty word. Taking the stigma away from being a victim is what we need to do. I am both a victim and a survivor. Being a victim is not my fault and I won’t be ashamed for being a victim 💛
Survivor = positive while 'victim' has a negative connotation
Well, that is nice, I wish it was easier to be a survivor and not a victim, I'm tired of always being the victim, long story short, my stalker won't leave me alone.... no matter how many restraining orders against him or tell him to leave me alone..... He doesn't get the hint.
YOU LOOK SO PRETTY!!!! Love the holiday vibezzz

Since then I always cross the street whenever I see a parked white van because I was taught to never go near one because of Natascha Kampusch
@L F well... Austria is not a city
@@lhuniverse8997 you have me dying 🤣😂
Now I can read all the titles on the Harry Potter books. Although Im judging you a little for keeping the Cursed Child up there.
WHAT IVE BEEN DOING
Yesss girl get those sponsorships!!! Sooo happy for you 😍❤️
I loved your spiel at the end.
Whenever I leave somewhere or someone I care about or hang up on the phone I always say that I love them because you never know if it could be the last time
She was truly a tortured soul. This story is just way too much for me, I'm beyond words.
I tried audible but found my mind drifting off... I'm a reading type of learner... I can't absorb for long, by listening.
I used to check out discs and burn them, but now I just download them from the library website straight to my phone without leaving the house.
the audio sounds good to me! can't wait to see the video.
I saw the movie "3096 days" VERY riveting stuff.
That was good movie.

The echo is ok, I can hear everything perfectly. Maybe putting a rug ou couch will help absorb the echo?
Perhaps "eggboxes" that musicians use?
Thank you for telling this story with so much empathy and understanding! I am sick of all the people hating on this intelligent and strong woman who survived such an ordeal with so much bravery!
People and the media can be so disgusting. I'm clad that you are respectful and give a good overview of this horrific case.
Congrats on getting this sponsorship!! I love Audible. Also thank you for doing a more positive case - it's nice to know people can come back alive.
I’ve always been so fascinated with this story and the Joseph Fritzl case. Thanks for covering it girl!
The echo never bothered me I never noticed! You've always been the best Danelle dont worry! ☺

Not only Austria, I think all of Europe was shocked.. I’m 19 now and I remember it clear as day light how I was always taught to stay away from any white van because of Nataschas case.. it’s very horrifying that no one found her and she just escaped because she was so intelligent and had a chance.
Her mother is the epitome of “you create what you fear.”

Omg this is a terrifying comment for me
I fear success and money

She couldnt help but stare at her, just thinking about all the horrible things she's been through.
did she seem okay?
She didn’t trust people after her escape from captivity, quite astonishing that she had the opportunity to escape from her abductor’s house
I've read the book and it's so unreal to see the images, it all was more horrific than I thought 😰
I have been OBSESSED with your videos lately, I just think that this stuff is so interesting and it really blows my mind!
Can you talk about Anthonette Cayedito? I feel like you would be able to find info that not everyone else has talked about
I second this! I swear, the background voice ("who said you could use the phone?!") in the call made after the abduction (if it was an abduction) sounds like a woman pretending to be a man. There's so many theories about this one.
