- Here is my dream cast for the remake of Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile". Like 2017's "Murder on the Orient Express", it will star and be directed by Kenneth Branagh. That is all we know for now. Who would you like to see?
Love, Love Love, your dream cast!!!!
My absolute agatha Christie film is. EVIL UNDER THE SUN..
I agree as much as you do!
I'm glad they are doing it,but it's going to be hard to top the original, when you had incredible actors like Ustinov, Bette Davis, David Niven, Mia Farrow the list goes on.
Not bad, but here's mine ^^
Ben Kingsley as Hercule Poirot
• Margot Robbie as Jacqueline de Bellefort
• Kit Harrington as Simon Doyle
• Gal Gadot as Linnet Ridgeway Doyle
• Liza Minelli as Salome Otterbourne
• Maggie Smith as Marie Van Schuyler
• Emily Blunt as Miss Bowers
• Pierce Brosnan as Colonel Race
• Audrey Tautou as Louise Bourget
• Bradley Cooper as James Ferguson
• Victoria Pedretti as Rosalie Otterbourne
• Mark Hamil as Andrew Pennington
• John Cleese as Dr. Bessner
How could anyone want to replace Olivia Hussy? So beautiful & perfect in the role, a re-make couldn't possibly be considered!
I like the idea of Mulligan, Waltz, and Cranston, but I fear that some of the other choices were too "safe." By that I mean they're too similar to former roles they've already played and the actors wouldn't want to take them for fear of damaging their careers by suggesting a lack of versatility/a desire to be typecast. The Downton actors in particular strike me that way.
I think that Branagh has hinted that he may cast people that he has worked with before. I would like to see the following cast:
Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot
Gemma Arterton as Louise Bourget (appeared with Branagh in 'The Boat that Rocked')
Keira Knightley as Linnet Ridgeway Doyle (appeared in Branagh's 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit')
Cate Blanchett as Marie Van Schuyler (appeared in Branagh's 'Cinderella')
Lily James as Jacqueline de Bellefort (appeared in Branagh's 'Cinderella')
Tom Sturridge as James Ferguson (appeared with Branagh in 'The Boat that Rocked')
Romola Garai as Rosalie Otterbourne (appeared in Branagh's 'As You Like It')
Hugh Laurie as Andrew Pennington (appeared with Branagh in 'Peter's Friends')
Jennifer Saunders as Salome Otterbourne (appeared in Branagh's 'In the Bleak Midwinter')
Tom Hiddleston as Simon Doyle (appeared in Branagh's 'Thor')
Bruce Payne as Colonel Race (trained with Branagh at RADA)
Julia Sawalha as Miss Bowers (appeared in Branagh's 'In the Bleak Midwinter')
David Warner as Dr. Bessner (played Branagh's father in 'Wallander')
who in gods name is Marie Van Schulyer? and this is a mainly B Cast apart from Blanchett BUT regardless of who he gets will not ever be in the same league as the original (if Orient remake mess is anything to go by)
I hoped Salome Otterborne would be played by Helena Bonham Carter.
Lynette is 20 years old. That's why her marriage to Simon stirs things up - she gets control of her money too soon for Andrew. So she needs to be played by someone who at least looks vaguely 20.
Jackie is her friend, so needs to be the same age range, especially with the way she loves Simon - with a foolish passion only truly known by the young.
And Simon, therefore, needs to be age appropriate for Jackie and handsome enough to catch Lynette's eye, with a physical fitness that is believable enough for the story's plot - he runs like a hare.
They're always cast far too old. It takes away from the tragedy of the story if they're too old.
I hope that you are right about some of them. But it would, in my opinion, be a bad idea to have Dan Stevens, Michelle Dockery AND Maggie Smith ALL come from the success of Downton Abbey to play very similar roles in Agatha Christie’s ‘Death on the Nile.’ I doubt that audiences would take it seriously. At least one of them would have to go. I like Dan Stevens to play Simon, but he might choose not to (remember his character Matthew was killed off in ‘Downton Abbey’ so he could get away from that kind of role.) Maggie Smith would be brilliant in her predecessor Bette Davis’ shoes, and a sort of reward for her hard work over all these years, having come full circle as it were. But I doubt that will happen. If any of them should be dropped, it’s Michelle Dockery. I cannot picture her playing Jackie at all, and certainly not opposite her old co-star Dan Stevens. I have not the least idea who will play those characters, but I doubt it will be them.
GhostHost 1969 ,I agree with a lot of your choices. I would be curious of your choices for the remake of Christie's " Appointment with Death". Here are some of my choices. Hercule Poirot: ???, Colonel Carberry : ???, Emily Boynton : Piper Laurie or Swoozie Kurtz, Lennox Boynton: Thomas Gibson, Nadine Boynton: ???, Carol Boynton: ???, Raymond Boynton : Ezra Miller, Dr. Diana King: ???, Genevra Boynton: Kim Mutula. Lady Westholm: ???, Jefferson Coe: ???,
Agree basically with Chris, definitely Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot... also Audrey Toutou, also Emily Blunt, Maggie Smith and Carrie Mulligan not so familiar with your other suggestions, BUT am sure they would be great. The main thing is, that it will be filmed at the wonderful 'Old Cataract' hotel in Aswan, once again!!
Emma Stone ... Jacqueline de Bellefort
Eddie Redmayne ... Simon Doyle
Keira Knightley ... Linnet Ridgeway
Léa Seydoux ... Louise
Helena Bonham Carter ... Mrs. Otterbourne
Claire Foy ... Rosalie Otterbourne
Daniel Radcliffe ... Ferguson
Shirley MacLaine ... Mrs. Van Schuyler
Olivia Colman ... Miss Bowers
Christoph Waltz ... Dr. Bessner
Michael Keaton ... Andrew Pennington
Hugh Laurie ... Colonel Race
Johnny Depp ... Hercule Poirot
Here’s my ideal Cast
Hercule Poirot: James Corden
Mrs Van Schuyler : Glenn Close
Mrs Otterbourne : Meryl Streep
Simon Doyle: Bradley Cooper
Linnet Doyle née Ridgeway: Lady GaGa
Rosalie Otterbourne: Renee Zellweger
Jim: Joachim Phoenix
Dr Ludwig Bessemer: Max Von Sydow
Miss Bowers: Shelley Duvall
Louise Borget: unknown French starlet
Uncle Andrew Pennington: Dustin Hoffman
Colonel Race: Michael York
Jacqueline de Bellfore : Madonna
Egyptian Captain: either Jamie Foxx or Grace Jones
The scenes with Madonna going up against Lady GaGa would be priceless and Streep and Close hamming it up against each other in tour de force performances as the two grand dames would be mouthwatering
Need a modern 21st century take on the Captain.....can’t remember his name but I recall he was played by someone known as I.S. Johar in the original
An All star cast is the 1974 version of Orient express
You have to be kidding suggesting Miriam margolys as Salome bahahaha
I agree with Maggie Smith :) Angela Lansbury should do it again - if there is a plan to put some humor in this movie. And Johnny Depp as Poirot .... okay, excuse me ;)
Angela will be too old sadly
Louise-- Gal Gadot
Jackie--Amy Adams
Miss Bowers--TILDA SWINTON!!!
Lynette -- Lauren Cohan
Simon -- James McEvoy
Dr Bessner -- Simon Pegg
Mrs Otterborne -- Kristin Scott Thomas
Rosalie -- Kelly McDonald
Jim -- Tom Felton
Col Reese -- Jeremy Irons
Pennington -- Kevin Durand
Mrs Van Schuyler -- Diana Rigg
Death On The Nile 2021 Cast
• Gal Gadot as Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle
• Kenneth Branagh as Detective Hercule Poirot
• Armie Hammer as Simon Doyle
• Emma Mackey as Jacqueline de Bellefort
• Tom Bateman as Bouc
• Russell Brand as Dr. Ludwig Bessner
• Ali Fazal as Andrew Katchadourian
• Annette Bening as Euphemia
• Jennifer Saunders as Mrs. Marie Van Schuyler
• Dawn French as Miss Bowers
• Rose Leslie as Louise Bourget
• Letitia Wright as Rosalie Otterbourne
• Sophie Okonedo as Salome Otterbourne
Angela Lansbury could repeat the role she did 40 years ago, and Maggie Smith do the part of Betty Davis, but Kenneth Branagh not by God!!! He ruined Hercules Poirot with the mustache he uses to personify it in the other film, he´s a criminal!!!
Lois Chiles ! please get her to come back and play Louise
She's in her 70s! Granted, she's still gorgeous, but in what universe does that make sense for the character of Louise who's a 20/30-something?
Whoever they choose, I predict it won't be as good as the original. They just can't do films like that justice anymore. The acting is always lacking now from the A list actors of today.
Never heard of some of these people
The cast of Branaghs orient express did not have an ‘ all star cast’, most were mediocre at best and some I’d never even heard of....I’m horrified to think he is using French and Saunders in a remake of Death on the Nile
Branagh was a joke from the word go, Christie was spinning in her grave for sure. He was a children's cartoon version at best and that's being polite. What most people are calling acting these days is just mugging takes to the camera and bad make-up and weak costuming. More than half of the audience departed half way through this horror of a film and I was close behind. Branagh is a....fair performer...barely. THIS is not for him in the least. No need for a remake, this pathetic peacock does not have the talent to compete.
To the narrator; LOWER YOUR VOICE REGISTER BEFORE SPEAKING INTO THE MIC! You sound like a 12 year old valley girl. It does not set well and hard to take seriously.

Branagh must have a huge ego to think he can remake these classics
Yes, Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express was unrelentingly tedious. The worst thing about it was the indulgent, unnecessarily showy direction; it frequently slowed the pace and drew attention to itself (all those endless aerial shots of the train, etc). The second worst thing about it was Branagh's hammy performance. It's amazing that they're letting him do it all again.
