Wow so much has changed since i went through 22 years ago. We had the fitness test every 2 weeks. That was brutal. Anyone joining soon. Stick with it and keep pushing yourself. Good look!
never knew how much the army cadets prepares you!! i'm so excited for the army in a few years
I joined in 1995 after 7 years in the Air Cadets. The cadets really did give me a big head start for being in the Army, especially on the parade square, range and out in the field.
Also, want to add that this video was very helpful with understanding on what the army is about, and how it functions by civilians being transformed into soldiers.. thank you
The most painful thing is knowing you have to learn the SA80
Got that right bro ;)
If you look after it correctly it's not that bad, just very high maintenance.

That’s great man, sure everything will be fine 👊
Did you do it ?
@@gw2891I wonder also cuz I’m thinking abt it I’m 16 fresh out of school
Greetings ally’s,
I’ve always been curious how y’all did things across the big pond.
My first day in basic training was like a sprint through hell!
Constant insults and confusion, hazing, your mother should have swallowed, the most creative swears to this day I have ever heard. Just madness!
I believe things have changed a lot over the last 10 years but man it was fun.
Arrival at your unit and you were a “cherry”
I believe after my first year things finally mellowed out for me.
Best of luck to everyone and watch each other’s backs!
Airborne!
thanks kyle 💪🏼💯
Interesting we had a Foundation week before you went to CMSR (Basic training) Back in 1999 I believe it was 2 weeks foundation in the intake before me But it was all admin and kit etc you had to pass BPFA mile and half with press ups and run also lifting weighted ammo tins on benches Most of it was. The events and layout was different but it covered all the subjects you mentioned However there was a hell of a lot of thrashings and beastings lol.. There where 3 short field excises that you basically got thrashed on no sleep or very little getting bugged out every harbour you went to no introduction to field you where told this is what we want do it right or suffer they even used to bring a PTI every morning lol.. In camp pretty much the same you made the standard or you got back squaded we started with 40 only 15 passed out I later became an instructor at a training regiment The think had changed to train in and not train out It's good to see that it's something that has changed as we probably lost a fair few guys we could have kept if we had that thinking back in my time at Pirbright as a recruit
Hi guys. I just wanted to say that watching this video made me realise how much stuff we get to do in CCF/cadets.
Most of the stuff up until week 6 I think I've done in 3 years in my CCF (minus fitness stuff). I'll give a list of all the things we've been taught/done:
Skill at arms+weapons handling test
Live Firing
Blank Firing
Exercise (I've only done a 24hr one but I think 48 hr is the longest)
Map and Compass
Drill (we do Remembrance Parades etc.)
Bit of first aid
6-Section Battle drills, Contact drills (My Section was taught this by a Gurkha and it was the coolest thing of my life), Section/Platoon attack. (Also this year we got to do TIBUA)
My point in this comment is not to brag but to show how useful cadets can be if you are still quite young and want to join the army. Of course everything we do (Except Skill at arms) is at a lower standard/less detail because we're still in school/ under 18.
P.S I'm not trying to take anything away from the army of course so don't attack me if u think I am!
Yes you do it but you want do it into the detail of the army especially fitness as most exercise the army do the ACF and ccf see it as stress positions
Hi mate, thanks for the info. I'm joining the Engineers. Looking forward to it
No worries mate, good luck with your training👊🏻

I start basic in November, and I’m actually really worried about maths and English, apparently there’s tests and stuff and I’m crap. Also I’m bad at public speaking hopefully I won’t mess up my ice breaker. It sounds silly but I want to leave a good impression
Where are you going i start the 30th oct at pirbright
Don't worry, if your infantry you don't need to read or write 📝👍
People say you don’t need cadets to join the army but if you do cadets youll know to do your skill at arms and strip the weapon
Ik you get taught but you’ll be 10x better at it and there will also be a lesser chance you’ll make a mistake
I’m 16 and I wanna join the British army as soon as I can and do infantry and hopefully be a marksman but idk what to train like I know running but I don’t know what else like I’m weak but I wanna be stronger and hopefully sign up in January
How’s that going?
When you join the infantry can you change your role after training or when do you get to choose ones role
Thank you for this video, it is very helpful. I have applied to join as a qualified nurse (soldier route), which requires 14 weeks basic training. I’m I going to be required to do the same basic training with those joining as combats or I will be moved to else where after the first 7 weeks?
Firstly sorry for the late reply.
Yes you will do the first 14 weeks the same as every other soldier (basic training), i believe after this you will as a nurse you normally go to university however, you are already qualified so i can imagine you will go to your unit or to a phase two training establishment where you will do further nurse training which will allow you to understand out to conduct yourself as a military nurse.
Question what if you go away on your weekend home and gain a bit of pudding does it effect you in training at all?
Adventure training now I think is dependent on covid restrictions, went through basic a year ago and we had no AT. Might be back in training now.
Yeah that’s sucks a bit. It’s a nice break from training. 👍🏻
AT is back in the syllabus as of 2022. I missed AT because I couldn't shot to save my life 😉
Had to go and re shoot my APWT (now known as the ACMT).
Thanks for the video mate..✌
Jst a quick a question.
Is it possible to transfer from the army to the RAF??
Thanks mate, sorry late reply.
Yes it is possible however, it could take a long time. 6 months - 1 year.
Thanks for the vid - I’m planning on joining the reserves when I’m 18. Is the basic training similar to this???
Erm, yes but it is ran in a different format.
Hi, just wondering can you take kinesiology tape with you to basic training to use on your legs etc ?
Erm I don’t see why not mate.
Wanted to join the military for ages! I'm 28 and I've got a herniated disk that causes sciatica. I've got the press ups and sit ups etc I just cant run properly at the moment, my right leg hardly moves. Worried I'm getting too old

Hi guys I want to join military school
As I turn 17 next year and since a young age I’ve loved anything to do with the world wars and I love history I’ve played many cod games and as I’ve got older decided I want to join the army but I’m a little nervous from being away from home for that long even though I know I will be fine in the fields at night as I do fishing and camping quite often any tips on how I can get abit more confident on joining thanks
To be honest mate there is not a lot you can do to gain more confident in something expect from doing it.
Think of it like this, everyone there is going through the same thing. So your away from home for a while it’s not a big deal, your family and friends will still be there and will be proud of what you are doing.
This is one of the main reasons people struggle with basic training but in reality it’s the best thing for someone of your ages, it teaches you independence and discipline. You will thank yourself for joining later 👊🏻
Much more video would be good.
Hi Kyle. I have a question. What if you still can’t pass the swimming test even when they teach you?
I’m joining in 15 days I can’t swim at all or float but I’ve searched and spoke about it they will teach you basically everyday until you can
Hi mate, my name is Charley, and I just want to say that I’m 16 years old about to leave school soon, after my GCSE’s, and want to know if it’s normal if I’m a bit nervous and scared about joking the army as an infantry soldier. Also, if you know where I would be based, considering I live in Newcastle, and if it would be better to join when 18 or when I leave school?
its being 2 month so ya may have this info by now but being 16, if you apply now you may make it for the march 2024 or September 2024 AFC Harrogate intakes where u go for 49 weeks for infantry.
Thanks for this video. Also been watching Raw recruits to get an insight. I'm going to Harrogate in 25 days from today. I'm in Intake 67 on the Short Course. Looking forward massively. Any surprises I should know about and common bad habits I should try to avoid?

the best advice i can give you mate is to turn up with a positive attitude, expect to be put in challenging situations but just remember it is training. It will end eventually and when you get to your unit it is a completely different environment.

i’m thinking about joining REME as a aviation technician is it worth it?
Hey, this was a great video and gave me more detailed information. But I struggle waking up in the mornings, is there any advice you could offer that can help me with this? Thanks :)
A few tips your probably not going to like them but they do work:
Go to bed earlier, if you you struggle to go to sleep early then make sure you are doing a hard training session to make yourself tired. This is probably the main point, once you get into the habit of going to bed early and waking up early it will come naturally.
Set your alarm and move it away from your bed side so you have to get up to turn it off.
Have someone else get you up if possible (parent, partner)
There is probably few more but these work for me, the main one like I said, go to sleep early don’t play on your phone all night, get up early do some good training and by 7pm the next night you will be tired, fall asleep early and then your into the cycle.
@@KyleSmithFIT thank you!

Hooray, first to comment
Thanks mate, always here and commenting. Appreciate it 👊
The problem with my application is that I DON'T HAVE ANYBODY OR PLACE FOR Accomodations during my basic training
Which country do u reside
I joined the British Army in 2003, went up to ITC Catterick. Unfortunately, issues with anxiety meant I came out after a couple of months. I retrained as a psychiatric nurse instead which I've done ever since, had a go at the army reserve five years ago but the same problems with anxiety dogged me in and I came out of Bravo training. I have a successful career, but the regret about not being able to make it in the army still eats me up.
Don't beat yourself up - you've done incredibly well by training as a psychiatric nurse and by confronting/acknowledging your anxiety. Research Ayahuasca and how it may help 'fix' you - I wish you all the best in life :)
@@dgs931 yes , well said - and also , a friend went to Bolivia for some Ayahuasca, and he highly recommended it . Also , to the psychiatric nurse - it is better to have tried than never bothered , so I commend you fully . Best Wishes all . 🐬

Get sent away and you can come back to retry after a month or sometimes long depending on close you were to passing
Hi Kyle I’ve done a ridiculous amount of research on the beep test and everyone absolutely everyone is saying up until stage 6 it’s a light light jog however I measured 20m with a tape measure and even At stage 2 I feel like im running. Actually running and at stage 4 I felt like I was just about sprinting. I do a 100 m in 11.2 seconds so im pretty fast so I curious what the issue is. Have I mis measured or am I genuinely doing something wrong. I have tried three bleep tests this week and got 5.1 as my best score before feeling knackered. I was thinking it might be because I’m a massive 5”4 so my strides are much smaller. I studied your bleep test and you were literally walking for the first few levels I feel stumped do you have any advice on what the issue might be and how I could up my score in general. A final question, is the beep test inside or outside because I feel a lot better inside. Sorry for the stupid question I just really need the help.
are you definitely doing the 20 meter bleep test and not the 15 meter? You may just need some practise on the turnings, it is an awkward test.
ermm most of the time outside from what i have seen but it could be done in a sports hall.
@@KyleSmithFIT sorry, I might of worded it abit wrong. It feels like I’m running a lot more then 20m because when I watched yourself do it you was essentially fast walking in the first few levels but when I do it I’m jogging relatively fast. It may be because I’m small and have less of a stride or I’m just horrible with a tape measure.
Also sorry for the 1,000,000 questions but how long do you think it would take to get to a good score thank you
@@ReganJH2 hey so iv done a beet test now when I past mine 8.6 for the army I was 15 stone now yea I found it hard bit it took me 3 months of running at a steady peace and I did interval training as well so 30 second sprint then 1 min jog back to 30 seconds sprint I would advise getting a bike or in door bike as it low impact and you can put your cardio to the max with that and still the next day feel fine to jog a bit also make sure your giving your body time to rest as rest is the most important think you progress I would do 4 day a week training then after 4 week take a week off so your body has time to catch up eat well stick at it and the goals will co e good luck iv re applied as I did leave for basic 2 year ago and going though the process now just wait for ac now good luck

From my experience just coming out of basic training , as long as you make the effort and show the ptis that you want to be there they don’t really care , but as far as fitness and runs I would start on a 2k and then progress through that so you are ready for your tests and go on to things like weighted marches so you get a feel for what it’s like
